For readers who love madcap comedy type books, this one should appeal. For those that appreciate logic and meaty plots, this story is fluffy and light and heavy on impossibility. For some, Charlotte’s personality might drive a person up a wall because she’s written in such a way as to come across as vain, vacuous, flighty and selfish. Bear with the story, it gets better, the heroine gets better. She grows up a bit and finally figures out what is truly important in life. When a catastrophe hits, she rises to the occasion and shows what a strong woman she really is. However, like I said, she is irrepressible. She doesn’t stay serious for long and it starts off again with embroidered patches. She’s inventive, I’ll give her that. The heroine seems to carry her own bit of sun in her pocket for all of life’s gloomy, cloudy days. It does come in handy. One thing’s for sure, her friend, Caro, is oftentimes entertained, aghast, horrified or impressed with Charlotte. So was I.

Secondary characters certainly played important and varied roles throughout the novel. I think Batsfoam would have been better if the author had toned down his dramatic soliloquies because after a while, I wanted to stick an apple in his mouth. Yes, an apple, because back then duct tape didn’t exist.

There is a light suspenseful plot that is fixed in an ingenious way. I thought as the heroine thought, that there were two villains. What the truth turned out to be was vastly better because it surprised me and I enjoyed that.

Noble Destiny is completely enjoyable. Yes, it had its foibles and weirdness but its overall charm, wit and delightfully saucy escapades between Dare and Charlotte were strong points that made reading this story so much fun. Charlotte grows on a person. I would definitely recommend this novel for readers in need of smiles, laughter and a few groaning “face palms”. It’s entertainment; something Ms. MacAlister knows a lot about because she always delivers.

This is the first book I read by Elizabeth Michels and I’d be happy to read another. She does a very nice job of creating a love/hate relationship as well as describing the ways of the ton. She takes two wounded characters and lets them work at helping the other person.

Andrew was going home until he got attacked by two highway men. He ended up at the feet of Katie, who didn’t want to be bothered. Andrew had been mortified a year ago at a big event and had been recovering from his shame in Scotland. Katie had been thrown by a horse and hobbled around with a cane – mostly so she wouldn’t have to ride again. Since his horse is injured, he was going to put him down. What he didn’t anticipate was Katie’s passionate response to that: She would heal the horse. And, no, she would not sell him another one to continue home, he could just wait.

This is a story of treachery on all sides. The ton had a lot of greedy people amongst them and they not only wanted all that they had but what others had, too. As you try to figure out who is trying to kill Andrew and why, you also find out that Katie’s family is involved. Their relationship was already a mess without factoring that problem in.

The ending is dramatic and fitting. There is no doubt anywhere about who loves whom at the end. There are only new beginnings and sometimes we all need that.

The author snagged me with likeable characters, a good plot, and a concern that things would turn out well. I need not have worried; she finished this up with a perfect ending.

I was excited to see that the second installment of Sara Humphreys’ Dead in the City series included two of my favorite secondary characters from the first novel – Shane and Maya. These two are a complete mismatch on paper, but work wonderfully well together when put to the test.

Shane intrigues me because he’s several hundred years old and is a total alpha male solely because men had to be in those days. Although alpha males have a tendency to seriously irk me, when they are born of a time when men had to be men – not because they wanted to be the Big Man but because the villagers’ lives depended on it – I find it much easier to deal with. Shane Quesada is one of these men. However, even though he is a warrior through and through, he finds a way to be everything that Maya needs.

Maya, on the other hand, is an extremely troubled youngling vampire. Having been savagely attacked and left for dead on the night of her turning, Maya can’t remember anything that came before that night. What she learns about herself in this book is both fascinating and unique. I think I liked learning her back story more than anyone else’s to date.

Vampire Trouble is a fun and sexy follow up to Tall, Dark and Vampire. You get a glimpse of Olivia and Doug’s continued life as bloodmates (and parents!) as well as new and interesting characters you haven’t met before. For me, the best part was the addition of the world of the gypsies and how it relates back to the main story. I would love to see more of this later in the series. Ms. Humphreys’ Dead in the City series has a little bit of everything: vampires, shifters, babies, magic, mayhem and more.

In this first book in the McCauley Brothers series, I met Flynn and Maddie. I have to admit, that the first time Flynn meets Maddie is quite memorable. Flynn on the other hand is a planner. He realizes just how special Maddie is and practices patience, to a degree. What the hero does do is seduce her and the techniques he uses are varied and inventive. To say that he is a hot specimen of a man is an understatement.

The basic conflict is internal and it mostly stems from Maddie’s side of the relationship. She has some growing to do and she has some family and friends that try to steer her in the right direction. They are a slightly manipulative bunch, but they mean well. Some of their schemes are rather amusing even if they don’t always work. It’s even more fun when they do.

Secondary characters are Flynn’s brothers and best friend Brody. Then there is Mike’s young son, who really stole the show in certain scenes. The dialogue was important in the novel because it helped flesh out their personalities and it showcased the roles they all played with regards to Maddie and Flynn.

A component that is explored in great inventive detail is Maddie and Flynn’s sexual relationship. Readers of erotic romances will find many interesting scenarios to enjoy. There is a bit of BDSM play, phone sex and role playing. Flynn rocks Maddie’s world because most of everything he does is new to her and she ends up discovering hidden sexual depths she never knew she had. Maddie finds out, with the right partner, sex is awesome. I liked watching her surprised pleasure with some of the things he tried. And I believe the only reason it worked so well is because the heroine truly was learning to trust the hero and that makes any sensual adventure in romance a success.

For readers who like a lot of bedroom action, this is a sure winner. For those like me who don’t require such varied adventures, the story doesn’t suffer from skipping a few of them. I think there might have been some experimentation with spanking and some anal teasing, but the romance and surrounding story is good enough on its own, I didn’t need to read every sexy encounter.

The Troublemaker Next Door is definitely a character driven romance. There is humor, laughter, emotional connections and a hero and heroine who strikes delightful sparks off of the other. It’s a fast easy read with a lot to enjoy. If the ending is to be a hint of who’s next, Abby is in for a big surprise. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer person. I can’t wait.

Emily Greenwood is a new to me author and I’m glad I tried one of her books. The writing flowed well and kept me totally in the story. I needed to know what would happen next. I read this book quickly, but that’s because I couldn’t put it down.

There are a lot of plot twists in this book. Keeping them straight can be a tad hard, but it’s worth the effort. I liked trying to figure out who would end up together and who was better off as friends.

Let me tell you about the characters. Colin, although he’s got his suave and debonair moments, is a bit of a geek. That’s a good thing! I like my heroes a little different. I immediately liked him. I understood his choices, and though I wasn’t keen on all of them, they made him who he was. He was a fine character to read about.

Then there’s Josie. I have mixed feelings about her. As much as I liked her…I didn’t. She’s torn. Her fiance went off to war and according to intel, he’s not coming back. She doesn’t want to stop loving her fiance, but there’s Colin. He’s so handsome and he’s…there! I appreciated her trying to work a love connection for her sister, but there were times I couldn’t root for her. I guess I wanted to conk her on the head and say get real. But that’s a good thing because I was emotionally invested in the story.

If you want a book that’s got fun moments, sweet moments and characters you won’t forget, then this might be the book for you.

Justina is the heroine to do it and I was completely charmed by her.

Justina is a young lady who has bits of fancy and imagines herself in a grand adventure. She makes things more ebullient than they really are. She finds joy in the ordinary and makes it extraordinary. In that, she came across as very young and perhaps not quite the person a slightly older, more serious gentleman would take a shine to. And some readers might decide that Justina is too silly to take seriously. I beg to differ. I was a young bride to a man who did not know how to smile on command. He was serious all the time and he once told me that I helped him connect to the joy of life inside. Because of that, I relate to Justina’s character; I believe that she is perfect for Darius and I loved every single minute of their romance.

The strong point of this story is Justina. As I got to know her, and watch her make decisions and see consequences, as I watched her thought process unfold during interesting and entertaining internal dialogues, I saw a young lady growing up to be a woman. She still retained her joie de vivre but it was tempered with a new maturity that complimented her relationship with Darius.

As for Darius, I thrilled at the parts that shared hints of his thawing, of seeing Justina as a woman and how he routinely tried to justify things to himself by claiming that he was only doing what was right, that he was ‘protecting her from herself’. In fact, he was fighting the attraction. As soon as she inspired a full out ear to ear grin from the hero, it was a lost fight. It was a beautiful transition. It was so much fun!

The secondary characters are from the Book Club Belles and I believe Once Upon a Kiss might be the start of a series that follow these young ladies who like to read romances. I guess it was a bit naughty at the time. There was a foreshadowing with one of them and at the end of the book, it looked like it might actually come to pass. If so, it’s extremely intriguing! Talk about an effective hook.

One of the most amusing aspects of this tale is the sensual build up, the teasing and the funny but sexy escapades that Justina and Darius get into. There is not a lot of sex but what there is, is effective, delicious and highly entertaining. I even giggled a few times.

I should mention Miles. As a secondary character and friend of Darius’, he was a terrific addition and a delightful supporting cast member. The same could not be said for Darius’ step sister. What a pompous poser. Ugh.

As for the happy ever after, I’m very satisfied. It ended the way I like, with a lot of important loose ends tied up, and a perfectly wonderful little carrot dangling like a tease for the next book. I can’t wait!

Historical romance fans should snap up their own copy of Once Upon a Kiss. It’s a winner. I enjoyed myself immensely and even though it’s a rather lengthy book, time sort of went ‘poof’. It was pleasant, entertaining and a joy to read. I’m so very glad I read it.

I like reading books by new to me authors. Dawn Ryder was one of those authors, but she’s not new to me any longer. Out of Bounds is a hot novel, packed with steam and excitement.

Most of the book flowed well, but there were moments where the transitions between the chapters weren’t smooth. I filled in the blanks in my mind as to what the author meant, but I think a little more detail and polish would go a long way.

That said, there are some great characters in this book. Sabra knows what she wants and is fully out to get it. I liked her confidence. It made me root for her.

Tarak is an alpha and very sexy. The only thing about him is he’s a tad more arrogant than alpha, but it worked for him. He needed to be in control. I could respect him, even if there were times I didn’t like him.

The only other thing was the ending. I’m not giving anything away, but I had to go back and reread a few times to make sure I hadn’t missed anything. It went by a tad fast. Still, I’m glad I read this book. It’s guaranteed to bring the heat.

If you want a book that’s white hot and interesting, then this might be the book for you.

Secondary characters are extremely important to this plot conflict. Some confounded me, others made me laugh at times and a few had me scratching my head, “how’d they DO that?”. I liked how Ms. Spear wove two of the characters into the plot enough that they affected the hero and heroine. Many times I thought that they were too good at what they did for untrained hooligans, but they amped up the entertainment factor and provided many opportunities for giggles and chuckles. Certainly Tammy and David became exasperated with them at times, but that is what made it so fun.

I think Ms. Spear had way too much fun imagining the waterfall shower scene. By the time I was done reading it, I wanted one too. Whew!

Tammy’s neighbor, Gertie, was a kick. The author used the secondary character to reinforce to the heroine what kind of guy the hero was. Some readers might think Gertie falls into the category of a cliché, but I rather enjoyed the interaction, even more so because of Tammy’s reaction.

When Tammy and David finally scratch their kitty itch, it was hot reading. Readers who anticipate some seriously steamy love action won’t be disappointed. What I liked the best is that Tammy made David work for it. I love to see a man sweat.

One of the things I like about Ms. Spear’s novels is that she takes the time to give her characters depth and emotional complexity. A great example of that skill is the relationship between Tammy and her father. Readers are in for an eye-goggle. It certainly blew me away.

If a reader is in the mood for action, romance, intrigue and exotic locales, then pick up a copy of Jaguar Hunt and get immersed in the adventure. Ms. Spear has a history of writing books that provide solid entertainment and a fun time. Watching Tammy and Dave fall in love was all that and more. Try it and see for yourself.

I’ve always loved the work of Paige Tyler. It’s guaranteed to bring a smile and the heat. This book was no exception. The writing is smooth and the characters intriguing. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down.

This is a solid book. The characters, Ivy and Landon are both strong. Neither of them will back down, but it’s a good thing. I could look up to Ivy and drool over Landon. Landon is a good guy. He’s almost perfect, despite being so strong and somewhat bullheaded. I liked him. Ivy is charming and her chemistry with Landon is off the charts. I liked that they didn’t think they could like each other, but could deal with each other. That definitely ramped up the tension and excitement factor for me. I also liked that Ivy isn’t your usual shifter. She’s not a human who turns into something, but rather, she can use the cat qualities she possesses in the clinch. She’s kind of like what every crazy cat lady wants to be–a cat like her cats, but human, too.

The romance does move fast in this book, so keep that in mind, but do read. It’s worth the ride and a fun ride, indeed.

At least, not until she’s alone…but when her walls come down, she is a shell of her former self. I admired the fact that she wasn’t being a trouble to her family, no matter what she had done.

Nathan Everets might have caused his best friend to be hospitalized, and yes, he may never wake up, but Nathan doesn’t deal with the pain as well as Monroe does. His scorn and the obvious amount of guilt he carries is much more noticeable. He’s blind to what people see in him, and won’t accept their offers of forgiveness. I thought his growth of character was the most interesting, because he seemed to have the farthest to go, and was able to pick up on old habits again without feeling badly about it.

I liked the plot itself; I found it to be touching and sweet. However…the use of profanity and crude words did not go unnoticed; plus, I found the pastimes of Nathan’s friends to be disturbing and the sexual content is most definitely not for younger readers, despite the publisher’s age recommendation (with which I disagree — and I think it’s important to note that I am in the targeted age range).

Overall, though, I liked what Monroe and Nathan went through together. The growth of character was interesting to read about and certainly kept me turning pages. And one more note? The cover is awesome. 🙂
