Top that off with “Through life-changing events and a family mystery,” I thought I was in for a delicious book glow.

I had to adjust my expectations a bit. Even though the story wasn’t as strong as I hoped, I was still satisfied with the scenic descriptive writing style, the well-developed side characters and pace of the book. Those are important characteristics for me and if a book is good, they’re in there. That’s a strong plus for Wildfire and Roses.

Instead of a book glow, the novel left me feeling like I do when I go to my favorite restaurant, order my favorite steak and it arrives not cooked as expected. Instead of complaining and returning it I still eat it because, hey, steak. So, while it still tasted good, it wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. That’s pretty much sums up how I felt about this book.

The author switched things up with her character’s personalities. I found the hero, Will Gregor, to be relatable but his character was suppressed to an unrealistic humbleness, mixed with a slightly elevated estrogen level. It wasn’t exactly a match for his job description. As for Beasley McLemore, the heroine, she had a bit too much testosterone going on with her skill set. I love a strong leading lady but there needs to be a delicate balance between the two characters to convince me of their chemistry.

If I were to compare the book to a recipe, a baker needs the right amount of flavoring and spices to make it work. And, I know reviews and taste buds are all subjective. While I still connected with Will and Beasley, I struggled with the on again off again dynamic between them.

Overall I enjoyed the plot thread and found Wildfire and Roses to be an entertaining read. I loved the moral message of prioritizing work, love and life. I think that was a realistic struggle that many of us deal with on a daily basis. I loved the flare of drama and thought the ending was complete. Will and Beasley left me with a satisfied ending. There’s enough solid writing in this book to make it worth a recommend.

I didn’t read book one or book two in the Cinderella Romance series but I plan to remedy that as soon as possible. Book three, Par for Cinderella, was a hole in one for me. I loved it and felt it could be read as a stand alone.

Aidan was swoon worthy. He was more than just a handsome man. He was generous, kind and thoughtful. Beautiful on the inside and outside. I felt if the other leading characters in the previous books in this series are anything like Aidan then I need and want to read them just for more swooning possibilities.

Casey, the heroine, was loved by her townsfolk. It was easy to see why. She had the matching characteristics of Aidan, therefore they were made for each other. Unfortunately her past broken relationships made her not trust handsome men and Aidan had secrets of his own that made their budding romance that much sweeter to read. I couldn’t put the book down. When they interacted I could feel the chemistry and often their banter made me seriously laugh out loud.

The story is well written with something consistently going on that left me riveted. There were a few plot threads that intertwined to keep the reader in suspense. The characters were well developed. Some I adored and others I was happy to see their demise.

There was some back story shared for some of the characters that had their own book prior to this one but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all. It only made me want to read the previous books to learn more about their story. I found the back stories to be intriguing not distracting or confusing.

There were some misunderstandings between Aidan and Casey that made for a book glow at the culmination of the story. I found Par for Cinderella to be a refreshing contemporary romance story with unexpected surprises through out the plot.

A fun fact is I dragged my feet to read it because I was afraid it was going to be “golf-ish”. I made that word up. I hate golf with a passion because it takes my husband away from his family. I have to say that I regret feeling like that now. Par for Cinderella was an awesome book!

Highland Honor is readable and engaging if a tad predictable: you get what you expect here. Fans of this type of historical fiction will enjoy it. The covers of Hill’s books are marvelously well done. They give the reader a wonderful hint about what the books contain.

The premise – when a traumatic event occurs, what would happen had it turned out another way in another world – the multiverse theory (think of the TV show Sliders – one of my favorites, btw. It’s no wonder I was drawn to this book!)

It’s hard to talk about the book without giving away spoilers, but — hey– it’s a romance so we know everything works out fine in the end. It’s the “how” it works out though that is so intriguing in this story. It’s been interesting to read different stories in this series and see how the soul mate tree is envisioned by each author. In this one, the tree shows a characteristic I’ve not seen in the other books I’ve read in the series.

The characters are wonderful — in both timelines. And, I fell in love with James. ‘Nuff said.

If you are at all into multiverses (and even if you aren’t… take a chance), I thoroughly recommend A Promise Remembered, and I’m definitely going to look for more of Erin Riley’s works.

Venture back to the old west with The Trail To Love and fall in love, just like Sarah did. Most of the story takes place during a wagon train to Oregon and poor Sarah is determined to be independent on her way to marry a man she’s never met. Her son, Tommy, is cute as a bug and mostly written in an age appropriate manner. He’s only four, but in those days kids were expected to carry more responsibility than they do now, so some of his behavior may have felt a little older than I’m used to, but didn’t feel out of place in the time.

Jack is a great hero. Devastated by the loss of a wife he loved deeply, and imprisoned by the promise he made to her, he struggles to keep his feelings for Sarah from growing. Thankfully, this is a romance novel, and he fails. Sarah is promised to another mail as a mail order bride, so also needs to deny what she feels. They’re a cute couple and the addition of Tommy made their growing relationship fun, sweet and believable.  There is also a wonderful cast of secondary characters as well.  Lucky Sarah had a couple great female friends. Mary, from her home town, who helped her figure out what to do when Sarah’s husband died. And Greta who was part of the wagon train and supported, mentored and just cared about Sarah on the trip.  I really, really liked Greta.

The author did a good job with the setting, and the descriptions were thorough, but I have to admit that I was so wrapped up in the characters themselves I didn’t really care about where they were. It’s true that the situation couldn’t have happened in another time, but really the story was very much character-centric and, for me anyway, that’s a good thing.  I love it when I’m so crazy about the characters I’d read about them doing just about anything.

Only two little things niggled for me. Horace was so evil. All stories should have a good villain, but he was almost a caricature and had literally nothing good. It made me wonder why they even hired him as a guide if his predilections toward women were so well known. His behavior was a bit over the top and didn’t feel as believable as I would have liked. Also, the way she was able to resolve her conundrum with the man in Oregon felt a little too easy, but I have a feeling the tree might have helped a bit with that. *G*

I keep calling this book “sweet”, but know that doesn’t extend to the love scenes. They aren’t numerous, but they are hot and descriptive. Sarah had an abusive marriage so had never been honestly “made love” to before. Jack is definitely up to the job and shows her what real lovemaking is all about.

All in all, a satisfying romance. The Soul Mate Tree is an interesting idea, and I’m enjoying reading how each author incorporates it into their stories and makes it work for them. A great idea and thus far handled in really awesome ways!

I’m not a huge hardcore Sci-Fi fan…sometimes the explanations of how things work can get a bit dry, but this story doesn’t bore the reader in any way. More Space Opera than sci-fi, it’s a fun romp through the galaxy. From the moment Kyle is dropped in front of Zana, butt naked and confused, the laughs never stop.

This is my first Soul Mate Tree book and I enjoyed the magic behind the tree bringing together pairs of people who belonged together. Of course, in this book, Kyle isn’t so sure about the whole “belong together” part, at least not at first. After all, Zana is breaking laws, and he’s supposed to be enforcing them.

Zana is a smart-mouthed woman full of sass and determination. I liked her, though I could have used just a tad bit less cussing. It does get a little old after awhile. Kyle was smart, sexy and upright and it was fun to read about how he was able to justify things with Zana after some time.

I did feel a little like a missed some things because I hadn’t read the first books in the series, but not enough to stifle my enjoyment or confuse me in any way. Just enough to know that it would likely have been a richer read for me if I’d been involved in the series from the start.

The author’s writing style is fluid and enjoyable. I really enjoyed his voice and humor. I do love a book I smile through the entire way. Like romance, laughs and a little space opera? I can’t recommend another book more highly than this one to fit the bill.

Flora, as the “fairy godmother” in this tale is just a hoot. And we have an evil stepmother and step-sister to seal the deal.

While not a suspense novel, this story does have some of the elements: an embezzler, crime, mystery…but it’s handled with a light touch and the emphasis is on the romance. The relationship is sweet (Andi has a few hang-ups about sex, so the couple keeps it pretty chaste outside of a few steamy kisses) and I admit to thinking Garrett was a little too good to be true. Perhaps the author painted him thus so it was even harder for Andi to accept his secret later on? I won’t say that the “surprises” surprised me much (well, maybe one), but they weren’t the point of the book.

At its heart, this is a romance. It covers all the right things to fit tidily into the romance genre and fans of the genre will thoroughly enjoy the book. It’s not earth-shatteringly unique or a book I’ll likely remember years from now, but it was one that made me smile and kept me reading until the very end and, ultimately, isn’t that what romances are all about?

This is a sweet second chance love story featuring two people, Rose and Dakota, as they meet too briefly at Woodstock. They each feel a connection, but circumstances prevented them from acting on that connection.

Fast forward several years and fate has once again stepped in to throw Rosemary and Anthony together. They each realize the connection is still there, but there are now other circumstances that try to get in the way.

The first part of the book features their time at Woodstock and the author does a wonderful job making you feel as if you were there. I could almost feel the rain and the mud, smell the pot, and hear the music. It was indeed a once in a lifetime experience.

All of the characters, even the secondary ones, were very well drawn. The author did a great job at showing both side of the “free love” issue from the sixties.

This was a quick and enjoyable read–I was surprised when I got to the end of it. I literally could not put it down once I started reading it. Kudos to the author.

Despite being set in the present, this story also refers to the history of the guardians. Alex comes into her powers which include fire. Collum, her dragon guardian, must keep her safe until she is a full elemental, able to control her magical urges and make them obey her wishes.

This is a wonderful story of dragons, magic, and the solving of an ancient mystery which has bearing of Alex’s past, in particular who her parents were. Life for Alex is mixed up and becomes more so when the weird Elders of the Elementals interfere.

I loved the way this travelled all over the world, but would point out that the author should research her venues. The island off the south coast of England is called Isle of Wight (pronounced white, but not spelled that way). This error took me out of the flow of the story and it took a while to get back into it again as I kept looking for other mistakes.

I really enjoyed reading this book as it had a bit of everything fantasy and in the main was well written. Definitely worth 4.5 stars.
