Missy, owner of The Little Care day care, harbors the biggest crush on the cute Elf from the Puzzle Workshop across the way. As much as she’d love to march over there and see what happens between them, she won’t, because she knows the results of her magic will be worse than unrequited lust.

When an encounter in a Christmas Maze brings them together, Missy and Trevor discover magic is tangible, mazes aren’t for the shy and awkward, and true love might be found under the mistletoe.

Trevor has been watching Missy from afar for ages. When she stumbles into his maze though, he finally gathers up his courage and starts to open himself up to her. Missy has been equally attracted to Trevor but unsure how to make that first step. With a little nudge and some Christmas magic, can these two start something wonderful?

I enjoyed this fast and fun short story. Santa playing matchmaker always makes me laugh and this lighthearted story was no different. I enjoyed how both Missy and Trevor had been attracted to each other for ages – it helped the pace of the story move much faster. I also enjoyed the fact that Missy’s magic was something completely fresh and new to me – so it was surprising and interesting when it popped up after they managed to complete the maze. I was a little disappointed Missy made a few assumptions about Trevor – with reasons I felt were a little weak at best – and this led to her not reaching out to him at the least to talk and communicate with him. I’d hoped she might be braver and have some faith in Trevor and his attraction to her, particularly since I felt he’d shown her a strong indication of his interest. This really niggled me and lessened my enjoyment of Missy’s character, but I have to admit this helped advance the plot and lent some element of conflict and uncertainty to the whole adventure.

The sex between Trevor and Missy was hot and deliciously explicit. I enjoyed watching them come together and discover the potential for the romance that bloomed between them. I thought the puzzles and mazes were incredibly well thought out and a refreshingly different take on the whole North Pole/Elf thing and have to commend the author on their imagination and creativity.

A short and fun read, this happy Christmas story should appeal to a wide range of readers.

Wyatt is in town for his semi-annual meeting with his pack’s financial advisor. This trip, though, he finds more than a good return on investment. The moment he lays eyes on Charli he realizes she is his mate, the one female who can complete his life. He’s determined to convince her to bond with him. From a tooth and claw fight with her Alpha, to reading bedtime stories to her daughter, he’ll do whatever it takes to get her to say “Yes.”

Charli had agreed to join with a pack when their Alpha had promised her that they’d support her studies and let her finish her course. Instead, she now finds herself at the mercy of the unstable and abusive pack Alpha, forced to be used as bait so other members of the pack can rob unsuspecting humans and Charli hasn’t been even close to campus in the whole time. She’s had enough, but can’t find a way out of her predicament. Until she meets Wyatt, an enormous werewolf who she knew as a teenager. Can this be the solution to her problems?

I found this to be a sexy and fast-paced short story. The chemistry between Charli and Wyatt was smoking hot and the fact they’d known each other as kids helped sell to me the near inta-lust that blossomed between them both. The quickness of the rekindling of their attraction and the start of their relationship as adults helped make the story feel like it had a good, fast pace. There were a few interesting surprises that I thought also helped the story move along.

There are a bunch of interesting secondary characters, mainly the other members of Wyatt’s pack. The easy camaraderie between them all helped sell the feel of a small, tightly-knit together group of people. While a part of me understood Charli’s reluctance to solidify a mate-bond with Wyatt, I found it a little unrealistic. Wyatt and Charli were clearly attracted to each other, and even with the complications of Charli’s life and past to muddy the waters I never really felt sold on her reasons to deny the bond between her and Wyatt. This wasn’t enough to sour my enjoyment of the story, but I found myself skimming some of Charli’s fears and denials because it just seemed a little over the top to me, personally.

With a good and interesting plot, a bunch of interesting secondary characters and plenty of chemistry and spark sizzling between Charli and Wyatt this story had a lot of good stuff going for it. I’d definitely be interested in reading more books from this series.

It takes Rick Hernerby, the mutual friend who introduced them in the first place, to finally get the ball rolling with a devious Valentine’s Day gift neither Jared nor Dorian will soon forget.

When Jared’s friend purchases him a mysterious night at a swanky hotel with promises of a good time and plenty of pampering, Jared is suspicious but curious. While he’d been led into light-hearted trouble plenty of times, his friend had never really steered Jared wrong. What Jared finds is his deepest and most closely held fantasies are being offered to him on a plate along with Jared’s best friend – Dorian – ready and more than willing to Dominate him. Can Jared and Dorian retain their friendship and turn it into something permanent and fulfilling to them both?

I enjoyed this short story. It’s written in a light and happy manner and as addictive as ice cream. I enjoyed both Jared and Dorian’s characters and their chemistry together was smoking hot. A tiny quibble would be that I’d have enjoyed seeing the two men interact as friends first – so I could get a feel for their dynamic together before they added sex and the intimacy of a BDSM relationship. With the short length of the story though, and the fact that the pace needed to move along to fit everything in, I can completely understand why this part of Dorian and Jared’s relationship wasn’t shown on-page.

The sex is deliciously explicit and hot to read. The BDSM was kinky but still felt wonderfully realistic to me and I’m always a sucker for a friends-to-lovers style of story as it’s such a well-known and utterly believable dynamic. I also really enjoyed how this story stood pretty much completely as a stand-alone. While it’s part of a series (Nailz) and the friend – Rick – who set the hotel stay up for both Jared and Dorian is one of the main characters in the first story (Pierced), Jared and Dorian are both completely the focus of the story. I also was amused and appreciated the quick glimpse at Will, the piercer and Rick’s boy, which helped show that all was progressing smoothly between the two men. Readers can easily pick this up as a stand alone and see if they enjoy the dynamic of this sort of story, then go back to Pierced and enjoy that equally well.

Reader looking for a quick, happy and kinky short read should find this ticks all the right boxes. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am eager for more in the future. A sexy, hot and quick read.

When her car is unexpectedly towed Deputy Kaden Hunter is called out and is astonished at how much Stevie and Mika tug on his heart. Can Kaden help make Mika’s secret wish come true?

I really enjoyed this realistic and heart-warming Christmas story. I found myself really empathizing with Stevie and respecting her strength and determination. Her instinct and determination to do the best by her son – and stand up for herself was really pleasing to read. I was impressed that she didn’t even consider giving an inch to her asshole ex and while her reluctance to take assistance from Kaden was something I could relate to, I was also pleased to find Stevie wasn’t going to let her pride stop herself from accepting his help and genuine offers of assistance – particularly in relation to Mika.

Both Stevie and Kaden each have a past and are wonderfully complicated characters. I enjoyed the pace of this story – which let them both explore and get to know each other at a slower pace, and I thoroughly enjoyed peeling back the layers on each of their histories. Considering both Stevie and Kaden’s situation I was pleased that they didn’t become sexually intimate until right toward the end of the story. Despite the heat level of the story this slowness in the sexual department certainly made a lot more sense to me and fitted better with the story. When they were intimate I found it delightfully written and very steamy and satisfying.

With plenty of Christmas cheer and a whole bunch of reality, this wonderful, warm-hearted and character-driven story was a pleasure to read and one I know I’ll enjoy again in the future.

Certain secrets are impossible to keep.

This story was filled with rich details that immediately sucked me into the plot. Even though I’ve never been to Australia in real life, I sure felt like I had due to the care the author took to explain not only what the climate was like but what Australian culture is like, too. I had such a good time exploring this part of the world. It was pretty hard to stop reading once I started because of how immersive this experience was and how curious I was to see what long-buried secrets might be revealed next.

I would have liked to see more attention paid to Jillian’s character development. She could be pretty stubborn and impulsive at times. While I definitely appreciated the fact that her flaws were so realistic and meaningful to how the storyline played out, it would have been nice if she’d shown how she changed as a result of these experiences. I sure would have been impacted by them, so it felt a little odd to meet a character who reacted the way she did to it.

The romantic subplot was handled nicely. I got the impression that this book was or will be part of a series, but I couldn’t confirm that for sure either way. At any rate, their shared history was explained so well that I felt totally comfortable jumping in at this part of their journey. They were young and in love but still had so much left to figure out about life and romance. It was pretty interesting to see how Jillian and Mason attempted to sort some of it out while at the same time both of them were juggling heavy work responsibilities.

I enjoyed reading House of Seven Spirits and would recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal mysteries.

My people are dying out, and if my generation doesn’t find compatible mates soon then my people will become extinct. When I hear of a race called Humans who are capable of breeding with Elorian males, I know we must find some and convince them to mate with single males on Elora.

They are following natural way of elimination as they are using energy, could generally “care less” about how that energy is produced, unless they are participating in a large-scale national or international “mission” related to energy. Their home planet is too far from my own, but a ship of slaves crash-landed on X-2 five hundred years ago and many were of the Human race. It’s there I know I’ll find the females who will save my kind.

It never occurred to me that I would be the first to claim a mate, or that she would have been so horribly abused. Despite her horrific past, my sweet Marcy gives me a chance, and now that she’s mine I will do anything in my power to protect her.

On the Colony of X-2 we meet a young woman named Marcy suffering at the hands of a male named Bruce. Women on the colony are treated as slaves and they have to do anything a male tells them to or face the punishment. Most of the punishments are public so the others would know what would happen to them.

Macy is a strong woman who did her best to survive in a situation that would break most. The horror that all the women were going through would cause anyone to feel anger. When the Elorians find out how the women are in such straits, they find it hard to control their rage. Her courage by taking the chance on leaving with J-Ril is commendable.

The Elite Commander, K-Tan, was on a mission to find these women because his people are facing extinction. When he met Marcy in his room, he wanted her. Their love is sweet and hot at the same time. I enjoyed seeing Marcy finally opening herself to a man and the ability to feel desire. Her trust was hard to earn due to her abuse from other men, and she was still was wary around others. Yet when she became pregnant, K-Tan still decided that he needed to take her home to his planet, as it wasn’t safe at her colony. I was glad when they decided that the rest of the men would take care of the rest of the woman, and that they would not force them to take the Elorians force to mate them.

I loved reading this story, seeing such a sweet relationship develop from a horrible situation. The bond between them is something all men and woman crave, and few find. Great reading.

One thing is for certain, Shona will need all her skills, energy, and strength if she’s ever going to live a normal life again.

But what is normal?

The third story in the Ironash series finally has DI Shona Williams getting some desperately sought answers concerning her past.

I really enjoyed this strongly written police-style mystery story. With well-written, deeply complicated characters and a lovely small-town setting this British mystery is a vibrant and excellent read that I feel everyone will enjoy. The two main characters – DI Shona Williams and her work partner, DS Earle Montague are exceptionally written. I found them realistic, interesting and complicated as only real people can be – conflicted by aspects of their past and present and messy in a relatable and all-too-human kind of way. I feel there is plenty in this story to appeal to a wide range of readers.

While this is the third book of the series the author has written this story in such a manner I feel it can easily be picked up as a stand alone. I personally would strongly recommend readers pick up the previous two installments of the Ironash series to receive the full enjoyment of the complex and detailed weaving of the full plot surrounding Shona and her past. A large part of this story rounds out and closes off a number of aspects of Shona’s driving force and desperately needed answers and I feel that readers will derive more satisfaction and pleasure having started this journey from the beginning. That said I don’t feel it’s in any way necessary to read the two previous books to enjoy this story. A.J. Harlem’s superior story-telling gives the reader all the details and smoothly explains exactly where Shona, Earle and their investigation is at in a simple and brief manner and any reader starting with this story can derive the full enjoyment of the story. To me, personally, this level of writing is the mark of an exceptional author. I am strongly hopeful this will not be the end of the series – there is absolutely still the potential for more to come, I hope. Life will continue for Shona, Earle and Ironash and I’d love to see how the revelations of this story add to the dynamic of their lives.

Another very strong point I adored was the characters and working relationship between Shona and Earle in particular. While there is no sexual chemistry between them, they have such a strong bond, not just of co-workers who must have each other’s backs and trust each other deeply, but also of friends. This slow-moving growth to their relationship has been a delight to witness and particularly since this case hits so close to home seeing the growth in their relationship and working dynamic has been lovely.

As always, there is a police-based plot as well. In this story it takes a bit of a back seat to Shona’s main, and highly personal, case but I was pleased the author did not give short shrift to Manfred or his revenge plans either. As in the two previous stories I felt a level of empathy for the “villain” of the piece. One of the most refreshing aspects to these novels and A.J. Harlem’s writing as a whole is that the author makes me think about “regular” crime in a very different manner. Where we as people – and society as a whole – draws the line between acceptable and not acceptable behavior is always a point of contention and interest and I’ve found that these novels have the knack of making me really sit back and think about when something is understandable and when it’s pushing too far. And any book that can really make me sit back, think and study my own beliefs and experiences and talk about it with friends and family is an exceptional book. These three novels by A.J. Harlem fall within that category and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Deeply thoughtful with complex and interesting characters this is a magnificent book and one I will eagerly re-read many times again. The author walks a fine line between making the “villain” completely relatable and sympathetic while still delivering an exceptional mystery in a British small-town setting. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book and see what happens next.

Not every Christmas present comes wrapped in a bow.

As soon as I noticed the witty dialogue in this story, it made me want to keep reading until I’d finished the last sentence. Noel in particular had some great lines in it, and Emma-Jean was filled with intelligent comebacks as well. I sure wasn’t expecting to laugh when I started reading it, so getting to do that was a nice treat.

I would have liked to see the fantasy and paranormal themes play a bigger role in the plot. It took such a long time for them to show up that I wondered if this tale had been mislabeled at first. They were an important part of the story line in the end, though, and there was so much more room for them to be included in what was happening. It would have been nice if they’d been given that additional time to shine.

Ms. Burke did a wonderful job of describing what was happening in each scene. All of her sentences were stuffed so full of detail that it was easy for me to imagine that I was actually watching everything unfold instead of simply reading about it. I especially liked the way she described her character’s bodies, how they moved, and how they were used. Although her talent with words also extended to her descriptions of the settings the characters lived, worked, and played in, too.

Cuckold’s for Christmas should be read by anyone who loves the holiday season.

I enjoyed this quick read – steamy and sensual with a good level of kink in it. I liked how things were simple and easy for Royal even though he had a bit of baggage and some genuine trepidation. I felt like the scene with Royal’s ex-police-partner was a little brief. While it absolutely helped bring the conflict and tension to a head the antagonism felt just a little out of the blue to me and I feel a bit more detail before and after this scene would have really rounded the story out.

I loved both Bone and Royal’s characters though and the chemistry between them absolutely sizzled. Readers looking for a good amount of spice and kink should feel this really fits the bill. This story isn’t dark – Bone has been in the lifestyle a while and Royal isn’t a virgin to these games. I found it refreshing that all of Royal’s experience with BDSM though had been undercover and therefore “not real” in a sense. This was a delicious way to have many things new and fresh for Royal without him appearing to be completely innocent. I loved that balance and found it really helped sell the story to me and I greatly enjoyed it.

With some seriously smoking hot sex scenes, plenty of various kinks – sounds, plugs, piercings and restraints – but nothing felt over the top of excessive in the style of the story. Best of all the attraction and chemistry between the two men felt realistic to me and it was clear they were both completely into each other which was just lovely.

A kinky, steamy read that was highly enjoyable for me.

Nobody should sleep alone on Valentine’s Day.

The premise grabbed my attention immediately. It included so many creative nods to other genres and writing styles that I couldn’t wait to see what the author would come up with next. She really outdid herself with all of her references. Honestly, the blurb didn’t even begin to describe some of the clever things she came up with. This was definitely one of those times when the blurb and the premise underpromised what they had to offer only to astound me with all of the delightful tricks they had up their sleeves.

I loved this book’s sense of humor. There were several scenes that made me chuckle, and many more that pasted a smile on my lips. By far the best scenes were the ones that involved Phyllis’ fairy ghostmother and her raunchy expectations for what Phyllis would do on past, present, and future Valentine’s Days. She was quite funny! I’d sure like to read more about this or any other fairy ghostmother if Ms. Gaines ever decides to write about them again.

All three of the sex scenes in this story were steamy and well written. Phyllis had excellent chemistry with all of her partners. While I immediately knew which one I hoped she’d end up with longterm, it was still a great deal of fun to see her try them all out and see who was most compatible with her. Sex isn’t everything in a relationship, but being compatible in this area sure is important.

I can’t recommend Valentine’s Ghost highly enough!
