However, there is an undercurrent of anxiety that keeps the reader just a little uneasy early on in the story and builds as an antagonist, that I really, really came to dislike, uses position and power to try to wreak havoc on lives.

Misty Simon does a good job at describing the internal conflict of the protagonist, Chelsea. Jack, on the other hand, is desperately trying to not get involved with Chelsea because she is his sister’s best friend. But he’s been harboring fantasies about Chelsea since his teens and she’s grown into a wonderful woman he can’t seem to resist. Jack was actually my favorite character because, unlike Chelsea, he knew what he wanted and he tried his best to get it.

Although Chelsea’s indecision and some unnecessary and lengthy descriptions slow the plot down, the story is still enough emotionally intense to keep the reader’s interest. Since this story has been done countless times before, the reader can trust that the tension between Chelsea and Jack will be resolved and will eventually bring about a sweet ending.

Belinda, the bridezilla, and Chelsea’s daughter Mazzy brought some nice comic relief to the story and livened up the pace.

Making Room at the Inn is a quick chick lit read with warm characters and a happy resolution.

The star systems and planets in them, the hierarchy of it all was confusing at first.

The premise was cute but it wasn’t what interested me so much about this book. It reminded me more of a movie line. A guy finds a phone and sets out to save the girl in the phone. But from the moment the truth of their lives was revealed it really picked up. The need to see how it played out held up until the end.

It was descriptive and very intelligently thought out ideas. This is a must read for those who enjoy the Sci-Fi genre.

I’m new to the writings of Linda Broday, but I’m glad I took the leap and tried this book. Her writing flows well and kept me entertained throughout. I wanted to know more and really felt like I was in Battle Creek, Texas with these characters.

Delta Dandridge is a complex character. She’s running from a rough past and fully ready to put that past behind her. I liked that she wasn’t wallowing in pity. She had grit and took on life. That was important because I wanted to root for her. I wasn’t wild about the idea of becoming a mail order bride, but that practice was acceptable back in the day. That was her way out and when that didn’t work so well, I liked that she didn’t hide. She went forward for what she wanted. You go girl!

Cooper came off a little rough, too, but once his hard shell was pierced, I saw a pretty nifty guy. I liked that he was wounded, too. He had some issues and thought he couldn’t get past them. He was the kind of guy I could enjoy and wanted to see him and Delta get that HEA. He’s troubled and sometimes lets that get him down, but underneath he’s the right man for Delta and I couldn’t get enough of them together.

There are a few subplots to the story. I won’t divulge much, but there is a lot going on and it’s all tied together, so don’t put this book down.

If you want a book that’s heavy on heart, hardship and overcoming that hardship, then this might be the book for you.

It seems what is supposed to be a game may have a darker side. The twist at the end grabs one’s attention is such a way the story takes on a whole new meaning.

“Arrow in the Heart” by Stephanie Burkhart is a sweet, straight-forward story with an antagonist that keeps the reader alert. Logan Donovan and Ella Perchekov, the hero and heroine, have very different life styles that could derail a budding romance. How these two cope with danger and their differences keep the reader’s interest.

“Taking Liberty” by Gerald Costlow stirs a mixture of emotions. Clyde Barrows, whether insane or just one of the-walking-dead after he buries his wife, keeps the reader’s senses on high alert.

Libby, the diner waitress, and Roger, the fireman, are the primary characters and their love for each other makes one’s heart feel good. But the appearance of the abusive ex boyfriend brings about some adrenaline-pumping action that keeps one turning pages.

Detective Jorgensen is rarely seen but plays a part that had this reader guessing about how he’ll deal with the information he has. This story is thought-provoking.

“Marcy’s Struggle” by Larry Hammersley takes the reader into the college world where young people struggle to establish a place for themselves in the working world that is fraught with challenges. Not the least of the challenges is sorting out emotional feelings and conflicts that arise when love slips in and demands a place in the planning.

Marcy Mason, a PhD candidate in chemistry, and Ross Franklin, the star quarterback, are miles apart in their interests and where their careers will probably take them upon graduation. Added to that jealousy, others’ expectations of them, and self-doubts keep their lives in upheaval.

The minor characters’ manipulation and influence have Ross and Marcy struggling to find common ground. How they finally deal with all the conflicts and feeling is most satisfying.

“The Garden” by Jory Sherman, though set in the present, seems almost like a wrinkle in time.

Harvey and Ruth escape the hustle and bustle of city life. They move to a ninety acre country place where Osage Indians once lived. Harvey’s has a garden that he loves. What happens in it and how he reacts creates an eerie, intriguing story.

The touch of humor, the mystery and confrontation all add up to make this story a delightful, entertaining read.

2014 Summer Collection: Anthology Sweet/Sensual, while not my usual type of reading, was attention-keeping and a nice break from the usual.

Kassian was a likable character. Throughout the book he showed he knows how to take control of many situations. I liked that Kassian has fame and money but he still has a kind heart in offering Katrina safety. I also like the true friendship between Kassian and his long time friend, Luca Fiorell. Also, it was admirable that Kassian stayed committed in getting Rapier, even with it being 100 years since his sister disappeared.

There was a slow build to the plot climax. For a story that speaks of murder, as a reader I was disappointed to only hear about the murders and not see them on the page. The majority of the story was spent on the romance and relationship part of the story. I was almost half-way through the book before the killer’s view was mentioned or any visual of murder was given in detail.

Something I found strange was that halfway through the book, in the middle of kissing mind you, Katrina reveals to Kassian who her father is. She says she found a picture of him and her mother, but she never knew who her father was, so how did she come to the conclusion that the man in the picture was her father? The family relationship of who Katrina’s father and brother is didn’t add anything to the story, in fact it boggled it down with a complex tangent that took away from a already busy plot about a killer, a blossoming romance, vengeance for a missing sister, and the witch and earthbound lifestyle.

There were interesting and unique actions mentioned like the men tattoos turning into daggers, and a cat turning into a man. There were words used that were in reference to earthbound and empath that I am not familiar with and I give thanks to the author for including a understandable definition within the storyline.

Undiscovered Angel is an entertaining read that is sure to give pleasure to those that enjoy a good paranormal romance.

The relationship between Melody and her child caught my interest immediately. Seeing how it evolved as they both adjusted to their new life only made me more curious to find out how everything would unfold in their lives.

The romance in this story happened a little too quickly. While I rooted for Melody and Derrick, Kristen’s instructor, to find a way to work it out, I would have preferred to see them get to know one another better before attempting to date. The chemistry between them would have benefited from having that extra time to develop, although I could definitely see the spark igniting between them as it was written.

Melody’s character development was interesting. She comes across as someone who is incredibly guarded and private for completely understandable reasons. The glimpses of her back story made me want to learn more about her, especially when they dove into topics that made her feel anxious or unsure. I empathized with her concerns and really hoped that at least some of them would be unfounded. It made me wonder what her personality would be like if a sequel to her tale was written ten or fifteen years in the future.

I’d recommend Horse Crazy to anyone in the mood for something heartwarming.

I must say I think Ms. Peterson’s interpretation of ghosts is interesting. I found the social lives of the ghosts particularly entertaining. These ghosts aren’t content to simply haunt the castle. They attend parties and make friends in their afterlife. I could clearly picture ghosts from various centuries dancing the night away.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Mariah and Cailen get to know each other. Even though they had an immediate connection, I’m glad that they were able to spend time together as a couple. Their circumstances are certainly unusual, but I think they work around the limitations posed by Cailen being a ghost very well.

I do wish some of the secondary characters had been a bit more rounded. Some of the other knights had a lot of potential to be interesting secondary characters, but this never really happened. The other knights stayed in the background for the most part. I also wanted to know more about the villain of the story. It is clear that this character wasn’t always bad. I wanted to know more about what set them on such a terrible path.

I enjoyed watching the mystery of unfold bit by bit through dreams and memories of various characters. Ms. Peterson built the suspense by gradually revealing one small piece of the puzzle at a time. I will admit that the pacing was a little slow at times. However, my patience was rewarded. The conclusion of this tale is definitely intense and had me on the edge of my seat.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read Spirit of the Knight. Ms. Peterson’s ghosts are fun and entertaining, and Mariah and Cailen make a great couple. Fans of paranormal romance would do well to pick up a copy of Spirit of the Knight today.

She, also, is trying to help wounded warriors like her husband had been before he died. It seems she’s losing the battle on both fronts.

The antagonists in the story make one shudder. Their actions rev up the suspense and create some breath-holding moments.

The story would have been even better if the ranching elements had been better researched. However, the people part of the story leaves the reader with a good feeling about family relationships and love making a way for two deserving people to find their happy-ever-after.
