30 Seconds Before is a prequel to 30 Seconds and sets the initial stage and lays the foundation for a much more intense storyline. Although this is a shorter story, it creates a strong backstory that the reader will find invaluable in 30 Seconds.

The character development and graphic detail are what sets Chrys Fey apart from other authors. Chrys Fey writes with such strong detail that the reader feels as though they are a part of the scene. The plot is strong, but at times felt a little rushed. The shortened timespan and abrupt ending left me wanting more. I felt that there could have been more description and more emotion in some areas to bring the story to its full potential.

A reader who had not read 30 Seconds would be able to find this story enjoyable, but to have the full effect of the story that Chrys Fey is telling it would be best to be sure to follow up with 30 Seconds after reading 30 Seconds Before.

Overall this was a fun story to read and a great prequel to 30 Seconds. Chrys Fey has a fun and dynamic writing style and will certainly take the reader on an adventure!

Clover Van Camp meets her match when her plans to turn a struggling Arizona town into a Wild West resort are blocked by the hunky mayor, retired bull rider Danny Leigh. To make things more complicated, this isn’t the first time the two of them have tangled…

Saffron M Power oil, the best ayurvedic sexual urge enhancers remedies raindogscine.com free levitra to consume. Danny knows Clover usually gets her way, but this time he won’t back down. He’s got a few things to answer for and a town to save. Besides, reconnecting with his former fling has benefits, as long as he doesn’t get distracted by their mutual attraction. Will Danny and Clover let their ambition keep their hearts divided?

I loved the movie Pretty Woman and this book was just as good but better because of a cleverly introduced stray dog that was just as much a main character as the humans. Angel Crossing was a place where I would love to live and raise my family along with the close knit townsfolk that stand by one another and have each other’s backs. Danny’s family and friends were well developed characters that enhanced the love story between Clover and Danny.

The book moved along at a reasonably steady pace that kept my interest and had me anticipating each encounter between Clover and Danny. I wasn’t sure if it was going to make me laugh, annoy me or give me a temporary glow. This is a testimony to Ms. Hormel’s writing skills because she was able to pull at all my emotions. It was captivating to read how Clover and Danny were both out to save a dying town with different methods that weren’t compatible. Yet, was their love strong enough to survive the conflict of interest?

First the heroine, Clover Van Camp, was a controlled by her wealthy mother who wanted her to be nothing more than a beauty queen in her successful clothing fashion company while never letting Clover apply her MBA diploma and help run the company. Clover’s parents are divorced and her father offers her a dream job at his wealthy and successful company that would supposedly give her the opportunity to show that she’s more than just a pretty face. So we have a “Miss Steer Princess” wannabe CFO heroine. Then we have a poor redneck bull riding cowboy turned Mayor of Angel Crossing, Danny Leigh. You’ll have to read why and how he became mayor when he was at the top of his bull riding career.

What we have is a classic “rich versus poor” budding romance. Mr. Van Camp, Clover’s father, didn’t think Danny was good enough for his daughter when they first met when they were younger, nor has his opinion of Danny changed years later. Regardless of the fact that her father was never an award-winning father-of-the-year kind of parent, Clover just can’t stop trying to gain her parents’ approval, then or now. I found it annoying but believe me, it was necessary for the finale at the end. While all of this sounds like a typical cliché with some parts of the story being totally predictable, the love story itself still got me. Their romance is the heart of the book.

The Bull Rider’s Redemption was an enjoyable, easy read. It’s definitely one I’d recommend to pass a couple of hours. I do feel that a reader new to the romance genre would totally enjoy this novel. However, an experienced and avid romance book reader would spot the clichés and time-tested, well used plot techniques early on. And, believe me, I did. However, I know if this book was one of the first few romance stories I’d ever read, The Bull Rider’s Redemption would have been listed as one of my favorite books.

As attractive as Fox is, he’s of no use to Claire . . . or is he?

By Claire’s calculations, Fox is the perfect man to satisfy her sensual curiosity. In Fox’s estimation, Claire is the perfect woman to prove his mastery of the ton. But the one thing neither of them counted on is love . . .

SO “un-ton” to let society see her intelligence and, of all things, in math! But that is Lady Claire, the bluestocking sister of the upstart American who inherited an English Dukedom. Claire is determined to fulfill her promise to her now-dead mother and also fulfill her dream of discussing math with the great math scholars in England — a challenge, to be sure.  She does as the old duchess of Durham insists and makes the social scene, but she’s just plain not husband hunting.

Then, Maximillian Fredick DeVere, Lord Fox returns to the social scene after being jilted by his beautiful fiancé. He is the epitome of ton. He is a winner in sports and with women and hires someone to do math things for him. With his Male Pride smarting from being jilted, he makes a horrid bet with a supposed friend. The bet involves Fox’s much-loved hunting dog and Lady Claire. He just HAS to win, but he failed to take into account his heart’s feelings; after all, he’d never had any trouble with his heart being involved with his decisions before. Moreover, when his rank, wealth, face and body failed to impress Lady Claire, he is flabbergasted.

The BET keeps him trying even though to Lady Claire he is “not an equation worth solving.” However, when his kiss short circuits her brain and wakes up her body to passion, desire, and lust, Lady Claire has to regroup. She is floundering in unknown territory. How these two find their happy-ever-after captivates.

The side stories of Lady Claire’s siblings and Society’s outrage yet fascination with them enhances the story and makes one giggle at times.

Maya Rodale does a wonderful job of weaving a subtle humor through the story that made this reader smile often. Her writing is delightful, entertaining, yet encompasses a great theme of two lovers who each are willing to give up something super important to see that the other is a winner. Definitely a GOOD READ!

But can he prove it to the one woman who makes his family complete?

Cowboys and babies, that was what sold me on this one right away.

I loved EllaJayne, who always seems to do a disappearing act. She may be the smallest character in this story but she’s also pivotal. Pepper and AJ both think they’re fighting for the same thing. The Property. In reality what they both want is love, family and belonging. It’ll take a pint sized princess to show them the way.

How they go from fighting with each other to fighting for each other was the highlight of this story for me.

The ending and the climax was great, I wasn’t ready for the story to end.

This is the fourth book in the Angel Crossing series. The characters and how they were developed in the book was wonderful. The author did a fantastic job of portraying a small town with all its quirks.

It felt as if the author was building up to something.  I felt as if more was going to happen and then it didn’t. Not saying that any part of it was bad just that there was an intensity that seemed to be leading up to something big taking place in their lives, like maybe the mother coming back to claim EllaJayne or a fire or something. Having said that, the ending is perfectly romantic and satisfying. Overall, I’m glad that I read this book and I look forward to returning to Angel Crossing again.

A bog may be Earth’s undoing, but it will be a gift to Mars.

Digging up bog bodies and analyzing corpses are the last things archaeology graduate student Felicity Cratchett wants to do. And when unusual mummies are discovered in the subpolar region of Polar Bear Provincial Park, it’s the last place she wants to go. But since her faculty advisor insists that she log more hours in fieldwork, she has little choice. In a remote bog with a small team of scientists, Felicity unearths the greatest secret of our time—a secret with ties to ancient Rome, roots in Botswana, and a link to the first people to exercise abstract thought. This revelation will challenge the conventional theory of human origins and human evolution.

Meanwhile, astronaut Lucas Wilson, a man tormented with a deep-seated anger, is terraforming Mars. He reluctantly descends to the Red Planet’s surface with his fellow astronauts, preparing to direct their exploration. Mars, in its birth pangs, will challenge every step he takes, with gas explosions and raging rivers, with damaged fuel processors and limited oxygen supplies. In the midst of these disasters, Lucas must keep his companions from discovering a feat of genetic engineering that will transform Mars like nothing has in over a billion years. The double helix of this masterwork twists all the way back to Earth and Felicity’s mummies. But if he fails, Lucas must decide whether to take up Mars’s sword, or to cast the weapon into a bog.

Have you ever wondered what the future holds, yet still remain curious about the past?

In The Furies’ Bog, author Deborah Jackson takes the reader on an amazing journey with astronauts looking at the future colonization of Mars while at the same time taking the reader on a historical journey with a group of graduate archeology students. These are two lines of time that become intertwined with the fate of humanity and the fears of extinction looming in the distance.

Deborah Jackson’s writing style is crisp and lively with humor, emotion and the human condition written in each character and event that occurs. I especially enjoyed how she was able to make each character three-dimensional, each had a rich back story, strong emotions and just like everyday life, their own secrets and weaknesses.

Ms. Jackson does a wonderful and skilled job at describing the setting for both very different plotlines. Initially, it can be somewhat difficult to follow the two story lines as they play out, but soon enough the reader begins to see how the past research and events on Earth relate to the adventurous Mars colonization research. Deep treachery and greed soon enter the equation and both stories take tremendous sweeps and turns, bringing the reader on an amazing journey that is so deep that one feels immersed in the story itself.

The author is able to put the reader into the forefront of the action as each adventure has its own suspense, action and intrigue. Each unfolding event pulls the reader deeper and deeper into the mystery and by the time the final pages come forward, the story comes to a conclusion that does not leave the reader grasping for more, but in all honesty, very content with the finishing sequence of events.

This is one story that I will not soon forget and I implore you to look beyond the separation of past and future and look into what The Furies’ Bog holds for you! You will not be disappointed!

But love and mistletoe have a way of upsetting even the best-laid plans.

Sophie’s first Season on the marriage mart had been an abysmal failure in the eyes of her mother and Uncle Harry. Hoping to marry her off to a gentleman of means, Sophie’s mother and uncle were dismayed that not a single gentleman had danced with her, aside from her pimply-faced cousin. Relieved to return home, Sophie is determined to try and live comfortably. Jeremy Wyatt is assisting his best friend elope with the woman of his dreams, acting as witness and collaborator in their rush to Gretna. When their carriage is bogged down by flood waters, he walks back to the small cottage they recently passed by. Can Sophie and Jeremy make this the most special Yuletide ever?

I thoroughly enjoyed the strong secondary characters. Thomas and Emma (Thomas being Jeremy’s best friend) were eloping and by mid-way through the story I was as invested in their happy ever after and marriage as I was with Sophie and Jeremy hooking up. A part of me would have enjoyed getting to know Sophie’s mother a little better, her character felt a little inconsistent to me. At the start of the story she appeared quite determined that Sophie have a second Season to hook a rich husband almost regardless of Sophie’s feelings in the matter. But after meeting Jeremy, Sophie’s mother was more than willing to scheme to help this man she had only just met form an attachment to her daughter. I couldn’t help but feel if I’d got to know her character a little better this complete about-face in attitude would have made a lot more sense and felt like a smoother transition for me.

I found this to be a lovely Regency-era romance story. While I didn’t find any of the plot particularly unique there’s definitely something to be said for the traditional boy-meets-girl storyline. The attraction between Sophie and Jeremey is nearly instant and I loved the numerous steamy kisses they shared. In true Regency style, there was no sex, and nothing spicier than those stolen kisses, so I feel this should appeal to all levels of romance readers except for those who can only enjoy the very sweet stories.

Overall I really enjoyed this Regency romance. I loved the characters and the sensual kisses and short spaces of time secretly captured between Sophie and Jeremy. I loved the happy ending and found this a very satisfying short story to read. Recommended.

When Marianne mistakes him for her bodyguard, Quinn can’t decide whether to save the feisty maiden, fall in love with her—or kidnap her. With bloodthirsty rebels pursuing them and a treasure map in his pocket, what will he choose?

I really enjoyed this book and all the characters (especially Quinn.. the banter between him and Marianne had me giggling.) Even though this is the second book in the series, it can easily be read alone- although it did make me want to read the first book to find out more about the Kwadrans and how Marianne’s older sister, Elinor, became the Kwadran queen.

The characters are all fully drawn—they have their faults, but they grow over the course of the book. The chemistry between Marianne and Quinn is reminiscent of that between Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone (not a coincidence that this movie is referenced in the book blurb!) The action was strong, and the hardships Quinn and Marianne go through on their journey plays a great part in their growth.

Mr. Hoornaert’s writing is clean and tight—it was a pleasure to read and I’m looking forward to reading more of his works.

Who killed 1940s screen goddess Gloria Reardon? Her unsolved murder hypnotized the public with its scandalous details and shocked two generations.

Avid feminist and aspiring filmmaker, Kate Bloom discovers long lost footage that holds the key to who murdered her grandmother. Legendary movie star, Gloria Reardon, may be dead, but friends and lovers from the Golden Age of Hollywood’s heyday are still very much on the scene, and it seems everyone has something to gain or lose from Kate’s discovery. Enlisting the youthful and brash film restorer Dylan Nichols as her closest ally, Kate becomes haunted by Gloria’s glittering past. Caught between glamorous Old Hollywood and the gritty, exciting New Hollywood of the 1970s, Kate is determined to find out what really happened to her grandmother and in the process becomes the killer’s new target.

The long-ago life and love of a Hollywood star feed this ’70s era mystery.

Kate Bloom found out about violence–and desperation–first hand, as well as getting too close to some of the worst of Hollywood. But, it made her strong.

Gripping and gritty, honestly, the opening violence was a little of a turn-off for me, but played so into character development, that I came to see it as central to the story. Is Kate Bloom a victim or a fighter? Her plight, as well as her determination, captures reader’s hearts and interest from the first.

Before we have the details of her quest or grasp her determination, we find ourselves hoping that she will somehow recover the sweet, well-meaning girl that started the story. The crime, men in her life, the competition to get into the Hollywood world or ‘compete’ with successful all fall second to that.

Dylon Nichols is quite a different story. He is successful. He also seems an opinionated piece of the Hollywood structure. When he fails to recognize her talent and her creativity, we can already tell these two will not hit it off.  At first, we don’t even want them too. However, his insight might be useful, especially as Kate pursues proof about grandmother, Gloria Reardon’s death. While we are pretty sure Kate is right about him being a jerk, he’s useful and she has an agenda…and somehow, we readers find ourselves mirroring the thought process of our main character. It makes the story all the more believable, as does the great inside look at the industry; at how scripts and talent are acquired.

This is an unusual mystery as Kate is chasing down proof of who killed her grandmother. She has strong suspicions (and some special access to info) from the start.

Filled with fear, anger, frustration: Fallen Star delivers action in an unpredictable, fast-paced fashion. A great read.

For Louisiana wildlife agent Jena Sinclair, it’s a place of refuge—one where she can almost forget the tragedy that scarred both her skin and her soul. But when the remains of yet another fisherman turn up, Jena realizes that Bayou Pointe-aux-Chenes is not safe for her…or anyone else.

The mysterious deaths aren’t her only problem. A dangerous drug known as Black Diamond is circulating through Terrebonne Parish, turning addicts into unpredictable sociopaths. Jena’s investigation leads her to Cole Ryan—a handsome, wary recluse struggling with his own troubled history—who knows more than he’s willing to admit. If they want to stop the killer, Jena and Cole must step out of the shadows of their pasts and learn to help each other…before the evils lurking in the bayou consume them both.

It was good to catch up with Jena Sinclair and the folks from the bayou. The book starts with a bang–a rather gruesome and honestly tragic death-by-alligator that broke my heart. It plopped Jena right back into an investigation after she was cleared to start working again. Everyone but Jena herself trusts her to do the job and make good choices, even (or maybe especially) her loquacious new partner, Mac.

But the crimes don’t stop with that body…there’s also a new drug in town, Black Diamond (or BSC, for “bat shit crazy”) and Jena finds out her younger brother is using. She brings in her former partner, Gentry, to help her make the right choices about that.

Cole was an interesting person. When we first meet him, he does something that makes me wonder if he’s at all trustworthy. Understand, I read an ARC that didn’t have a blurb, so I didn’t know who Jena’s love interest would be. Thankfully, Cole redeems himself. He’s a loner, true, and scarred (by the end, he’s scarred inside and out, but healing), but it’s those very characteristics that make him appeal to Jena. She’s scarred too, from nearly dying in book one, to doubting herself and her looks. She doesn’t think anyone could possibly find her attractive again.

Filled with plenty of twists, Black Diamond kept me turning pages. Nearly 1/3 of the book had Cole, Mac and Jena in a lot of peril and left me a bit breathless. I do wish a little more time had been spent developing their relationship (the book is definitely heavy on the suspense), but it still worked for me. Additionally, if you’re looking for a book with lots of sex, this isn’t the one for you. I think the physical part of the relationship between Jena and Cole was handled just right, but any more books seem really heavy on the sex. I was pleased that the author focused more on emotions than putting tab A into slot B.

I’m really enjoying the series and look forward to the next… who will be up next time? There are a couple folks Ms. Sandlin can choose from. I can’t wait.
