Anne Jamieson and her critique partners are once again thrown into murder and mayhem while attending a writers conference. Anne starts to believe she is a dead body magnet when she finds obnoxious agent, Carmella Radcliff, stabbed to death in the ladies room. This brings Detective Gil Collins onto the scene. Anne had hoped for a relationship when he was lead detective on an earlier case she helped investigate, but lies and secrets drove them apart. The Snoop Group, as they’ve named themselves, decide to assist again, but then, a second agent is killed. The conference offers a long line of suspects and motives. Was it the best-selling author? A disgruntled editor? An angry agent? An attendee whose work was rejected? Or someone else? Time is running out and the conference will only last so long. Amid the commotion, can Gil and Anne rekindle the spark from months ago before the murderer claims Anne as a third victim?

Here’s an inside look at the publishing world. There are authors, agents, those listening to pitches and those pitching them. There is plenty of competition between agents and authors both. That’s all normal. What’s not normal is to find an agent dead in women’s bathroom…

This really is a look at the other side of just picking up a new book to read. The author talks about critique groups where they each look at each other’s work and offer suggestions for change. It’s done constructively and it helps them write better books. In this story, they have a replacement member they’ve just added that isn’t fitting in well. She knows her work is perfect. So what if the plot has been used many times in the past and the characters aren’t someone you care about? Her work is good and her book should sell. When no one will even list to her pitch, she’s upset. Is she upset enough to kill?

The story moves along smoothly, all the odd character quips seem natural and there are enough suspects to fill up the convention hall. The dead woman antagonized everyone. She was sarcastic, unkind, and didn’t care whose feelings she hurt. There’s a lot of motive there to sort through.

Anne was pleased to see the detective she’d met on a previous murder case. She had lied to him then, so she know he wasn’t going to resume their friendship as it was in the past. But she was determined to be at least friends and maybe something more.

When another agent is found in dead in his room, the case speeds up. Anne finally remembers what she had forgotten and almost gets herself killed by letting her face give her away.

It’s a fast, exciting read with lots of characters to both love and hate. It’s easy to feel sympathy for Anne who is trying to recapture a lost love, get rid of an unlikeable critique member, and stay alive.

Why not take a walk in the publishing world and see just how cut throat it is?

How does a bookish lady bring an arrogant lord to his knees?
Entice him to Scotland, strip him of titles and riches, and make him prove what sort of man he truly is.

Opposites…
Handsome, wealthy, and sublimely confident, Colin Gray, the new Earl of Egremoor, has vowed to unmask the rabble-rousing pamphleteer, Lady Justice, the thorn in England’s paw. And he’ll stop at nothing.
It will also include a sense of renewed buy levitra vitality and virility when it is given to the heart patients. One of the most common purchase viagra no prescription causes nowadays is stress. How do these people get viagra buying their grimy hands on your email address. As per the medical researches, it has been found that healthy foods such as fish, salad, olive oil and that odd glass of wine have the ability to clean out your viagra generic sale gastrointestinal tract and soften fiber.
Attract.
Smart, big-hearted, and passionately dedicated to her work, Lady Justice longs to teach her nemesis a lesson in humility. But her sister is missing, and a perilous journey with her archrival into unknown territory just might turn fierce enemies into lovers.

The Earl, part of the “Devil’s Duke’ series, introduces a pair more likely to become sparring partners than a romantic couple. Indeed, the circumstances they confront are far more serious than romantic: and beyond the usual scope of political intrigue as well. Emily, the self-styled “Lady Justice’ has a terribly personal reason for reaching out to the duke for help.

She’s a ‘pamphleteer’ in the early 1800’s London- struggling for the rights of women. She’s identified various members of the Falcon club (a gentlemen’s club) as thwarting her endeavors and… Colin, the just-stepping up to Dukedom, is among those on the ‘other side.’

But when her own sister goes missing somewhere in the wilds of Scotland, it is Colin she reaches out to. He might be her nemesis, but he’s no fool…and Scotland is by no means as tame as London!

The complex heroine is especially appealing. She’s firm in her beliefs but so resolute toward her goals that she’ll bend to ‘using’ someone she considers ‘against’ her. She’s smart: she keeps up with news, uses her maid to keep up with gossip, and knows all of the goings-on of the day ; but in her own, familiar city.. Scotland might be a whole other world…

And Colin is equally admirable, not because he steps in to assist a lady; but because of his own complexity. He must put aside self-doubt, as well as (to some degree) family expectation, but he becomes as firm in his resolve as she.

The Earl is incredibly engaging, primarily for its deep and determined characters, but also for its wonderful backdrop – exactly as expected, yet more. The plot is completely unpredictable. This is simply a super read.

A woman haunted by her past.

FBI Agent Alexa Kyndall devoted eight years of her life to the search for justice, showing no mercy to the guilty and depraved. When she joins a special task force to bring down a serial killer, Alexa encounters the most unexpected criminal of her career.

A man willing to do whatever it takes to save her.

They join forces, only to discover they must put everything on the line in a pulse-pounding struggle to protect and survive.

A killer closing in.

Nestled in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, The Dragon’s Staircase is an intriguing, nonstop adventure that will keep readers enthralled from start to finish.

Alexa was excellent at her job in the FBI. She could get inside the minds of killers and bring them to justice. Her last case was her most dangerous. Playing mind games with a head doctor is challenge at the least. Playing one with an insane man is even worse. Her last case had both those components and she almost lost her life. She’s sure she took his but there was no real proof. The fire burned everything. She’s left the FBI as a result. She just couldn’t handle the stress any more.

The authors do a good job of hooking you in the first few pages and dragging you along through the story. There’s danger everywhere. Alexa has trouble trusting people after her incident. They make you feel her fear and worry.

When the FBI call and ask her to come in because they have a similar case, she wants to say no. But she has a fear that the killer might have survived. She agrees to come in. What she finds is a young boy who witnessed a murder and is scared to death by what he’s seen. She also finds a man with him that she thinks is his father. He’s not, but he’s his protector.

The romance is slow to grow because they both don’t like being vulnerable. They need each other to keep the boy safe and themselves safe. She thinks the killer is after her again and she’s right. She just doesn’t know who the killer is this time.

The suspense doesn’t let up and it’s a fight to the end. They keep attempting to kill her and they almost succeed. This is the beginning of a new series and you can tell they will all be suspenseful and have lots of fast action. This was a very good read.

I wish I knew the songs written in the book from Mason, the hero, to Tegan, the heroine, were real and on YouTube prior to reading the book. Never have I read a book where the story and characters were as vividly alive in the room with me as the characters in this story were. I think that if I had listened to the songs as they appeared in the book, I would have melted on the spot. Maybe even go as far as faint on the spot.

I sincerely fell in love with every aspect of this story. It was uniquely clever how the author incorporated a love story on the side through Tegan reading old love letters from an ancestor. It was sheer brilliance how the author connected the closings of those love letters with the last few pages of the book. I appreciated the detail of the key that Tegan wore around her neck to the detail of her middle name. All of these special mentions made the book remarkable in my eye.

I can’t rave enough about this story. Melody’s Key was heartwarming, sweet, sensual, romantic, heartbreaking, gut wrenching with a touch of despair, funny, sad, happy, hopeful, happy, ecstatic, hilarious, and all satisfying! I can think of a specific event for each of those feelings. This book was a great ride and one that I didn’t want to end.

I fell in love with Tegan’s entire family. Her parents were supporting and her sister was hilarious with her pranks. I’ve never been to London but if I did I’d love to see Tegan’s estate. I’d want to curl up with a blanket under the old tree with big roots. I wish the characters and places in this book were real.

Everything about this book worked. My interest was captured from the first page to the last. I couldn’t put the book down. Reading as the romance budded and blossomed between Mason and Tegan was scrumptious. The story was consistently enthralling from beginning to end.

I highly recommend everyone to read this book. I would love to see this book made into a movie. I’d pay to go see this movie the night it’d premiere. I’d buy this book. I’d actually read it more than once. Those who know me know that I never read a book twice. I’m tempted to re-read it now just to pause at the song parts. 🙂 This is seriously a major “book glow” book!

Will Clare and Jack be able to survive the deceptively peaceful Iron City?

This book started off rock solid. I thought I found another winner. I was proud of Clare, the heroine, for making the brave decision to walk away from her troubled Milwaukee city life to start a new life in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She’s finally going to stand on her own and achieve her dreams. I enjoyed reading her pull from her inner strength to accomplish her goals in spite of her insecurities.

Jack, the hero, was equally brave and irresistible and thankfully well equipped to keep Clare safe from the relentless danger that followed her from Milwaukee. The chemistry between Clare and Jack was “Awe” worthy. I especially loved how and why Jack came to Clare’s rescue when she was cleaning the garage. I got quite the chuckle. Jack always came through just in the nick of time, thank goodness.

The synopsis refers to a plot thread about Clare’s alleged involvement with the Fire Chief and his “ring of female admirers”. Unfortunately, this is where I felt that the book faltered. The premise was farfetched. Another thing that hit a wrong note for me was the last chapter. It was as if the author pushed the fast forward button to quickly wrap-up the book. I kind of felt cheated.

Up until the last speedy chapter, the novel was consistently filled with suspense, mystery, and developments that were unpredictable, and that kept me turning the pages. Thankfully the evolving love story between Jack and Clare was well written and kept me plugged in until I reached the happy ending.

Taken by Surprise was a well-paced read with all the threads nicely tied up with a successful satisfactory conclusion. I would recommend this book.

This was a well written, nicely paced, realistic love story. I enjoyed reading this story while sitting on a 9 hour plane ride. Only problem is I still have 5 more hours before this plane lands and I’m sitting here smiling like a goofball thinking about Amos Tanner & Tamar Freeman.

The story quickly drew me in on the first page. Tamar is a strong, intelligent independent, mid 30’s respectable lady. Amos’ character is complicated but that is the intriguing part of the story that kept me glued to turning the pages. He is an ethical, honor bound gorgeous and strong. He’s the kind of hero that is more than capable of filling my dreams, oh, I mean, he met my ideal “book boyfriend” expectations. The chemistry between the two made it a bit awkward to be sitting near a stranger on a plane!

The plot is clever and unique in a couple of ways that I can’t share without spoiling the surprises. It was refreshing to read a story that was skillfully written by an obviously talented author. This story made my heart swell and brought a genuine smile to my face. It was a fully satisfying happy ending that came sooner than I wanted it to.

I could see a story in the future for Tamar’s sister, Delia that I’d be interested in reading.

A rather artsy historical, Layton’s Lord of Dishonor is written in what seems a purposefully older style, which comfortably suits its setting. It stars the regency realm’s classic clash of respectability and restraint–or scandalous lack thereof.

It also stars to unlikely lead characters, with Amanda, the bubbly countess’ daughter, to Lord North, who is not exactly who he should be. Before a romance can happen, a murky past needs to … well, we really have no idea what needs to happen! Lord of Dishonor’ is unexpectedly unpredictable, with a unique and original cast of characters and some pretty unexpected circumstances, too.

Although descriptions certainly convey a sense of time and place, they are also wordy and this reader found they distracted from the main tale. If words bore physical weight, too many of Layton’s are heavy. However, this might well be because this reader so wanted to rush ahead and discover how it all turned out.  A solid historical read.
