The heroine, Robin and the hero, Daniel , were truly adorable. Daniel brought a smile to my face every time he teased Robin. I felt mildly bad for Robin but it was really funny. She was good natured about his teasing and she had her turn to get him back. I loved watching their relationship bloom.

I do recommend reading The Rebels of Cordovia. At the end of The Rebels of Cordovia there is an excerpt for book two in The Rebel series, The Highwayman of Cordovia. Considering how much I enjoyed reading book one I’m going to have to read book two.

Sheagan was a great character who appealed to me from the start. With a sweet kind of happiness and an optimism that shone through she was a modern but still interesting character that I could empathize with almost immediately. I thought the author did a great job balancing the storyline between being funny but not too over-the-top. While I, personally, was charmed by Sheagan’s slightly bumbling detecting ways – I’m not certain other readers will find the heroine’s actions as charming and humorous as I did. Readers wanting a thoroughly realistic detective/mystery style novel might need to loosen their expectations to really get the full appeal of this story. That said, I found the pacing of the story quick and smooth. I really enjoyed how each piece of the sequence led smoothly to the next and found following along with Sheagan as she uncovered each clue both addictive and interesting.

The romance aspect of the plot was a little slower, in my opinion, to gain momentum. While I did enjoy the chemistry and professional antagonism between Sheagan and Mac, at first I felt the mystery aspect of the storyline was stronger than their blossoming romance. As everything moved along, however, I was pleased that I found the chemistry between Sheagan and Mac both more believable and steamier. Sheagan and Mac’s romance had plenty of tension and antagonism that slowly blossomed into strong and deep feelings – their relationship took a while to really come together but in a sense that made it even more satisfying when they finally admitted the depth of their connection.

I found this story to have a good, strong mystery plotline and a slow-moving but still equally satisfying romance threaded well together. With a bunch of strong characters and a definite hint of humour I feel this story really had something that should appeal to everyone. With nothing overly explicit in the romance I feel this story should appeal to a very wide range of readers of all ages. I enjoyed the tone and voice of the author and would happily read more by them.

Milt’s character development was well done. I’d mentioned wanting to see more of it in my review of The Undernet, so it was nice to see how much this character changed in his second adventure. He had been pretty badly traumatized from being kidnapped and tortured back then, and he was still dealing with the repercussions of that when this case began. It was neat to see so much continuity for him there as he continued to heal.

The cast of characters was really large. Milt and the FBI agents he was working with kept finding more and more people on the Darkweb who were involved in child trafficking as the story progressed. While Mr. Frankel’s descriptions of everyone were thorough, I sure would have liked to have a list of all of the characters to reference when someone who hadn’t been seen in a while popped back up again. There were a few times when I had trouble remembering certain people who played small roles in the plot because of how many other folks there were to keep track of as well.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this story was trying to figure out who Azrael really was and how he’d evaded the authorities for so long. This wasn’t an easy mystery to unravel. There were a sufficient number of clues to work with, but they didn’t appear right away and all of them required the readers to think critically about what we’d just read.

The first book in this series was in the young adult genre, but this standalone sequel took a much darker and adult-oriented turn. While the many references to child trafficking and pedophilia did not include any scenes of a child being sexually abused, such disturbing subject matter is really only appropriate for an adult audience.

The Undernet 2: Azrael should be read by anyone who is in the mood for a dark mystery.

Although this was not my usual type of story, that does not mean that I did not like it. I found it well written and I loved that the characters were well developed, complex and three dimensional.

Until There Was Us is a family saga and what I do not typically enjoy about family sagas is the meddling of overprotective parents, and this novel had plenty of scenes of them. Also, this is the 7th story in the Montgomery Brothers series but by the time I realized that, I already liked the story too much not to finish it. Although the story can be read as a standalone, Until There Was Us features many recurring characters from previous installments whose stories I did not know.

In the first half of the novel, the hero and heroine overcame most of their problems but there was a little bit of drama at the end which showed just how much the hero and heroine were meant for one another. The pace of the story was a bit uneven and there were parts with too much description that slowed the story down; but there were plenty of parts that I enjoyed very much.

If readers follow and like the Montgomery Brothers series then this is a story for you. Also, if you like romances that contains large, loud and meddling families, this is definitely the story for you.

I have a confession to make – I am actually looking forward to reading the next installment in the Montgomery Brothers series. I hope it will be Christian’s story because I would love to see his HEA.

I enjoyed this short story. I liked how despite a number of recent set-backs – the death of her adopted parents, losing her job and being dumped by her fiancé – Miri still was determined to set her life on a good course and make the most of what she did have. It gave me the good impression of being upbeat and optimistic even when life insists on handing you lemons.

There were a few aspects of the story that struck me as a little too contrived, like when Miri’s grandmother leaves her a note with the combination to her safe and the comment that she’d left “things she didn’t want to give the solicitor” in there, but Miri had zero curiosity about it and even decided to cook herself some dinner, eat it and put off checking it out until the following day. These actions totally made me pause and jarred me out of the story-line, because I had to wonder and reflect whether I was just an impatient, curious sort who could never have dreamed of shelving such an intriguing thing. Possibly this won’t seem to strange to other readers, but it really felt a little unbelievable to me, and this oddness took me slightly out of the story.

I thoroughly liked how the tone of the story overall had the feel to me of a small-town mystery story. Miri discovers all sorts of things, secretly hidden old keys, her grandmother’s safe with sealed envelopes and so on. I felt a little like I was reading an Agatha Christie novel and I loved this. Miri was an interesting character and I enjoyed exploring the various elements to her character. There is a definite element of mystery also surrounding the other residents in the small town. Far from the usual aspect of chatty, nosy neighbors deeply curious and gossipy about anything new, most of the residents are very stand off-ish and jealously guard their privacy.

Luckily, Miri has Gavin, a clerk at the law firm handling Miri’s grandmother’s estate. The attraction between Miri and Gavin is a very slow burn – but I found the growth of their romance really satisfying to read. When Miri is in genuine danger Gavin not only rescues her, but also admits his feeling and I found it lovely to read. There is one steamy scene between Gavin and Miri – kissing and touching but no consummation – and I thought it was well handled and tastefully written.

With plenty of mysteries an intricate plot and some curious and layered characters this is a good read. I easily found myself becoming attached to the storyline and enjoyed trying to guess the twists before they happened. A complex and exciting story with just a hint of romance I feel this is sure to appeal to a wide range of readers.

I read an Edith Layton book nearly a year ago and it wasn’t one to put on my keeper shelf. However, I believe in second chances. I read the synopsis for A True Lady and felt the urge to give it a try since it sounded truly intriguing.

I was determined to take a day for me. I started this book with every intention of not being interrupted. I promise you this book was awesome. My husband and teenage boys were bringing out the ‘Cristable’ in me. Cristable is the heroine and she was fantastic. She was the daughter of a pirate. I love stories with pirates in them. She wouldn’t take kindly to being interrupted while reading her book. No ma’am, she’d whip out one of the many weapons on her person and threaten their life while giving them a good ear full. I was really close to speaking my mind in ‘Cristable fashion’ to my family. I felt emboldened reading this story! I wasn’t going to Publix to get pepperoni because they wanted to make pizza and we were out. I was in the middle of an intense love story!

The plot was spectacular. I thought to myself “Oh my gosh!” more than once. The creativity it takes to come up with riveting scenes one after the other is pure talent. I consider myself a pretty imaginative person and I didn’t predict the outcome of this story. There is a delicious suspense drama mixed into this story. There is so much more to this book that the synopsis doesn’t even hint at. What a wonderful surprise. I will say that Edith Layton does have a unique writing style. She knows how to create a web of well-developed characters that flows with a steady pace of entertainment. They interact and flow back and forth between characters without skipping a beat. From start to finish I was on an endless journey of surprise and pleasure. I was genuinely impressed with the writing skill it took to write Cristabel’s speech from pirate lingo to speaking like a true Lady would in that time period.

The hero Magnus was–Oh my goodness–book glow worthy. No woman in her right mind would be able to resist Magnus. At first I didn’t care for the character Black Jack but by the end I was kind of liking him. I’d be interested in reading a book with him as the hero. Magnus’s brother and his wife were slightly annoying to me at times but in the grand scheme of things I can easily over look that blemish. Of course I would have enjoyed an epilogue. Seriously, though, this book was nearly perfect.

I have to recommend this book to those who enjoy reading pirate stories like me. This was a wonderful romance story between Cristable and Magnus. Their love story reminds me that our past does not dictate our future. There is hope and true love for everyone who believes.

This was an enjoyable book that I wasn’t able to put down. I found it to be well written and entertaining.

The hero, Jake was dreamy and I wouldn’t have minded being his prisoner. Kate was a lucky lady to be in Jake’s protection. Together they made me feel all gushy and happy. I feel the cast of characters were well developed and I connected with each one.

The plot was mostly believable with some pleasant twists and turns mixed with some suspense elements. The epilogue was appreciated at the end. I was left feeling like I had just watched a really good movie.

This would be a great book to read on a relaxing camping trip.

Jared is in a race against time. He must waylay the suspicions of his quirky servants and neighbors, get to Wellington before the French spies do, fix his fountain–before Seven shows up–so Jared has a way home, and definitely not fall in love with the irresistible Lady Ariana.

Duke Du Jour kicks off with a surprising scandal – one that we readers could scarcely expect…and this story is intriguing immediately. Kudos to the author for plunging in so creatively. I must confess; given the time period, the titled character, the very word ‘romance’ – I expected my initial thought to be ‘entirely predictable.’ Happily, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Jared, third duke, is not getting his own way – right from the start. People and events transpire to affect him in ways he can scarcely imagine, but somehow, we believe. His meeting with Lady Ariana is both wonderful and awful, because we cannot see how this romance could ever actually work out. No spoilers here – McCarty enthralls us with this intriguing story line.

I’d call this a ‘mostly’ historical romance and suspect historical romance fans will find it enjoyable – don’t be put off by the time travel aspect. Definitely worth the read.

Well written and engaging, this book is not to be missed.

Ms. Brock’s book flows from the first page. I read it in one sitting. I had to know what would happen next to Kitty. I liked the variety of situations she dealt with and how she made her way through them. She’s certainly an interesting character. In some ways, the book almost seems impossible – one person could have all these experiences in one lifetime. The thing is, this takes place in the 50s in the music industry, albeit in the nightclub side of that industry.

I liked Kitty’s forthright approach to life and love. She has ideas and knows what she wants to do with them. She’s almost a tad too pushy, even when she means well, though. Like she knows what’s best for everyone else, even if it doesn’t seem like it might be best and she’s pushing her ideas off on her friends.

Still, I liked her pluck and determination. I liked how she grew through the story.

If you’re looking for a book that’s a little different from the norm, then this might be the one you’ve been looking for.
