As much as I appreciated the section on bullying, this was such a complex and important topic that I thought it should have been saved for a sequel. Understanding and accepting one’s own feelings as well as the feelings of others provided more than enough fodder for this tale. It would have been nice to have a comparable number of pages dedicated to explaining to young readers what bullying is, why it’s harmful, and how victims and bystanders should react if or when it happens to them in much more detail than what was presented here.

Our world needs more kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. It was refreshing to see so many examples of characters who were all of these things and more. The warm relationships between them all made me smile, especially in the section that talked about why humans come in so many different shapes, sizes,, and abilities. Once again, the narrator gave specific examples of ways to be kind to others and help make everyone feel like they belong. That was the perfect way to approach such abstract concepts with such a young audience.

Feelu: Explore Your Feelings was a heartwarming read that I’d recommend to kids of all ages.

Julianna also finds herself attracted to Harrison and can’t get him out of her mind, no matter how hard she tries. Julianna is a successful wedding planner but personally she is an emotional wreck. Harrison is exactly what she needs, but it takes her while to figure that out.

This has all the elements I love in a good story. Harrison is a former football star with a celebrity status. He is older than Julianna and from the moment they meet, sparks fly, and I knew they were meant to be together. I loved everything about this story. The writing flows from the first page and the dialogue is funny, snappy and filled with emotion. I fell in love with Harrison and Julianna. I wanted them to be together and I couldn’t put this book down, until I knew how everything turned out. Simply wonderful!

I am so happy to be back in the world of Immortal Guardians. I was ecstatic with Seth’s story but it seemed like it might be a while before I’d get to enjoy more in the series. Color me tickled pink to find Broken Dawn not only introduced me to Nick and Kayla, but my favorite Immortal Guardians popped in to help out. Once again, I feel like I’m figuratively embraced by a large, loving family whose lives I care about. How many book series make a reader feel like that? I know they are out there, but I’m adding Ms. Duvall’s Immortal Guardian series to that honorary list.

One intriguing aspect was the exploration of the question – what would happen if one of the long-lived Immortal Guardians met someone from their quasi-recent past? And what would that person’s reaction be? The author answered that question with one possible outcome in Broken Dawn. It provided a great plot to carry the romance of Nick and Kayla. Their relationship was already there as they were neighbors but crises can act as catalysts for change and that certainly was the case in this book.

This was a smooth romance, and by that I mean that I didn’t have to deal with any heavy-handed internal conflicts. That it was a pleasure to read because I felt the tone was positive, upbeat and the focus was on the growing romance between Kayla and Nick. It was at times sweet, humorous, intriguing, surprising and even suspenseful. It was all around wonderful.

The reason that I didn’t give this book the full 5 stars is because of the actions surrounding the villain. Yes, there was a villain who effectively contributed to the suspense and action that did occur. I am referring to the guys that were employed to get answers and to secure the captives. I understood in the previous showdowns with evil-minded mercenaries with government-like ties, that it was necessary to eliminate the enemy because they were violent bad guys definitely guilty of crimes of moral turpitude. They had no mercy, and had no compunctions about killing. In Broken Dawn, I didn’t get that crucial feeling of the end justifying the means – that getting rid of them was removing depraved, violent people who killed innocents without qualm. I didn’t get that feeling because of the nature and circumstances surrounding the villain. I don’t believe the author convinced me that every hostile in green and gray warranted that level of removal. Perhaps because of past events in previous books that not doing so later bit them in their butts? I suppose that’s possible. I guess it’s up to readers to decide for themselves if they were convinced. I wasn’t.

That was a big paragraph explaining why I didn’t go that extra half of a star, true, but in actual time spent involved with that dramatic plot twist, it’s actually a blip in the over all scheme of things. I stand by my earlier statement that this is truly an upbeat romance. That watching Kayla and Nick discover that their feelings for each other weren’t as one sided as they each thought was a joy and made for great entertainment. If I remember correctly, many gifted ones who are love interests of Immortal Guardians don’t always have a choice about when they’ll make the transition. Nothing is ever easy and Kayla carries on that tradition. Speaking of the afterwards, there is this one sentence that created a sound track in my head for Nick and Kayla’s HEA. Their “I don’t think forever will be long enough” triggered the end song of the second Mummy movie, “Forever May Not Be Long Enough”. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten an earworm while reading before. It was perfect. So, while I’m writing this review, guess what song I’m listening to …? *GRIN*

I am a very happy and satisfied reader. Broken Dawn is the 10th installment in the series and is just as fine a read as all the previous. It’s a keeper and a wonderful addition to the Immortal Guardian family. Fans of the series surely must be as happy as me.

I was surprised by how long it took for the mystery elements of the plot to make their full entrance. While there were hints here and there in the beginning, this honestly read more like a romance novel for the first half of it or so than it did a mystery. It would have been nice for these themes to be given more time to shine.

With that being said, I did enjoy the suspenseful portions of the storyline once they arrived. The slow buildup to them gave me time to put the few clues that were shared early on to good use while I waited for more of them to arrive. It was interesting to see how everything came together in the end, especially when it came to the paranormal side of this subplot.

Island Secrets was a lighthearted romantic mystery that I’d recommend equally to fans of either genre.

I really enjoyed figuring out how they were connected to each other and making guesses about which characters from the first section might show up again in the second one.

I hope readers smile and laugh as much as I did while watching Emmeline navigate her inadvertent adventure.

That’s why I enjoyed this novel so much. There was double the fun because there were two couples whose paths cross in unexpected ways. The complications that ensued kept me flipping the pages at a furious pace. This story is incredibly rich in details, dialogue, descriptions not to mention the intricate way the author wove their budding relationships throughout the book. The writing was flawless and well done. Then again, every romance story I’ve ever read by Ms. Galen has that same high quality.

The addition of the dog was super sweet. I mean, how the Spaniel came on stage was surprising to say the least. It was a brief snapshot, but like they say, you can tell a lot about people by how they treat their furry companions, and both Emmeline and Stratford get an A+ from me.

One of the strong elements in this novel is the sense of family, with all its wonders and warts. No family is perfect but for all four protagonists, it’s a driving force behind many of their decisions, and contributes to the ultimate happy ever after for both couples.

There are actually a ton of snippets and scenes I could share because the author wrote her characters with such depth and substance, there’s an overabundance to choose from. I could mention the effective internal conflicts; one of them being the touching way a child’s old hurt inside the man is finally soothed. That’s another mark of an awesome book, the ease and enthusiasm to share what I liked is easy. It’s stopping myself from sneaking in spoilers that is the problem. So much awesomeness!!!

I’ll stop here. If you are in need of a happy and fun escape that can make you forget life’s stresses, then please read The Highlander’s Excellent Adventure. The story’s HEAs are an upbeat cure for the blues and blahs of your day. This book is a winner.

I picked up this book because I’d heard great things about GA Hauser’s work. The characters are interesting and the storyline is one many can relate to–losing a loved one and the holidays. This story takes place right before Christmas, which forces Paul and Ryan to confront their sadness, but to do it together.

The beginning was rather slow, I have to admit. It took me a while to get into the story and to know what was going on. I wanted to like Ryan and Paul from the beginning, but at times I got confused as to who was alive, who wasn’t and who was dating whom. It needed just a bit more editing to smooth out some of the edges–there were a missed word here and there and a few other oddities, but nothing that would take away from enjoying the read.

Once the story got going, it really sped along nicely. The connection was odd, but deep and I liked Paul and Ryan together. I certainly felt the angst and the creative genius in them. Plus, the hot scenes are hot.

If you’re looking for an angsty holiday read that will break your heart, but also make you smile, then this is the book for you.

The action sequences were nicely written and balanced out the science fiction themes well. Obviously, I have to be careful about what I share here to avoid spoilers, but I liked the way the author played around with the audience’s expectations of who might find themselves tangled up in this sort of adventure. Taking note of my own assumptions about who I’d meet and comparing them to who actually showed up made me chuckle. They also made me wonder what the author is going to do with their characters going forward in this series since they’ve already shown a willingness to include many different types of heroes.

Every company has its own unique culture. I appreciated the author’s stories about the various places he’s worked and why he recommends being so cautious, especially in the early days when a new employee is still learning how everything works and what their new coworkers and bosses are truly like. There’s definitely something to be said for making a gentle entrance in order to avoid accidentally stepping on anyone’s toes.

One thing I do wish this book had gone into more detail about was the interview process itself. It would have been interesting to read Mr. Young’s thoughts on the red and green flags to look for when deciding whether one is actually interested in working for a particular company. It also would have been helpful to get more advice from him about how to put one’s best foot forward during the interview process.

Some of the most interesting passages came from Mr. Young’s thoughts on how to identify and manage a toxic work environment. Whether it was caused by one person in particular or by multiple problematic folks, he had a lot of sensible advice about how to minimize the effects of working with people who have trouble relating to and communicating with others.

How to Survive the Office was a thought-provoking and educational read that I’d recommend to anyone who is looking for a new job at the moment or trying to decide how to navigate the social scene at their current workplace.

Readers who enjoy a steady pace where the main characters have the time and opportunity to really get to know each other before sizzling on the page should find this romance suits their tastes. There’s a complicated – and painful – history between Sarah and Matthew and while at times I felt it bogged down the blossoming of their relationship with baggage I also thought this history really added some tension and conflict between Sarah and Matthew.

While I sometimes wasn’t sure of the romance aspect to the story – I thought this story really shines with all the description and interest from Sarah and Matthew’s job together as Park Rangers. I loved how much small detail and extra information the author managed to pack into this side of the story without making it feel like an info-dump or as if there was just massive amount of research – or experience – thrown in for no reason. I felt the story moved naturally and all the details and descriptions of their work as Rangers kept my interest piqued right throughout the story. I felt this really added complexity and depth to the story as a whole and easily was my favourite part to the whole book.

Watching Sarah and Matthew try to work through their past – and see what kind of future they could potentially have together – was really lovely. A few times I wasn’t sure Sarah would be able to see things maturely or clearly as their history was exceptionally emotional for her, but I was vastly relieved when Sarah and Matthew managed to come together and sort out their happy ending.

Readers looking for an emotional, spicy and well paced romance story with interesting characters and a strong plot should find this book really satisfying.
