As for Lizzie, she’s a hot mess totally in need of meeting a man like Alex. I was cheering them on as I turned the pages as fast as I could. I remember thinking “Oh my goodness” while my toes curled, and with a goofy smile on my face. They had great chemistry.

There was a character that the synopsis mentions as an “unreliable friend and employee.” This character could have been more developed. It was a plot thread that had options that were missed. There were a few editing hiccups such as misspelled words, but I can read backwards and upside down if I have to so that didn’t bother me. Alex almost made me forget my name so I’m surprised I even noticed something such as spelling errors.

Honestly, this was an enjoyable romance story. Sincerely, I would read another romance by Lexi February. I prefer to read books that give me that feel-good feeling and she hit all my happy spots, especially with the epilogue. Well done. It’ll be easy to suggest this book to my friends who are looking for a lighthearted, take-me-away-from-this-world, story.

It took me a little time to come on board and see the two very different men as being compatible, but their chemistry and connection was completely undeniable.

Nuk has been eagerly anticipating the opening of Cereus and is thrilled that time has finally come. One of the first clients, Nuk is blown away by Al, the IT guy. Will their attraction blossom into something more lasting or is this just a fleeting moment in time?

I’ve never read a polar-bear shifter story so this one was completely fresh and different to me. I really loved how Al was such good friends with Daniel – the dragon shifter and owner of the resort land. I felt that added a lovely extra element to this story. Super hot and sexy this was a lovely short story and I really enjoyed Al’s character in particular and how he and Nuk needed to find common ground between them despite their vast differences. It was lovely to see them both compromise and meet each other half way as they feel deeper in love and forged a delightful relationship.

These three short stories stood very well alone and I enjoyed how clearly collaboration between the authors had occurred since there were small cameos from other characters across the stories. Readers who have read previous installments in this world will also likely enjoy seeing snippets of other characters and it helps make the resort and world feel really well built and far richer for it. That said, readers who haven’t read anything previous to this shouldn’t feel put off – these stories and characters absolutely stand alone and can be read with nothing else prior being known.

A good, solid set of three steamy and erotic stories that I really enjoyed.

This is a very busy book with narrow escapes, rescues fraught with peril, werewolf politics and a romance that has a lot of hurdles to overcome – one of which is survival of one or both of the protagonists. I am in-like with this novel.

Ava starts off kind of weak; at least I got that impression in the prologue because she’s impulsive in her wish to be independent. I don’t think she was mature enough at that point to realize her self-worth. Her short interaction with Damon seemed to be the turning point because when I met Ava in chapter one, she wasn’t the same – she was better.

I feel the need to alert readers to one pertinent fact about the prologue – don’t expect it to play a role in any way at any point in the novel. For some reason, Ava doesn’t recognize Damon as meeting in the past and Damon never alludes to it, mentions or reveals it. It’s like it has no bearing on the story, or plot. I think it’s to introduce a reader to the hero and heroine and allude to the fact a connection between them is fated and inevitable. The catalyst for change in their lives occurred during the prologue, and that’s it as far as I can figure.

As for the meat of the story, the suspense and drama start fast in the first chapter and everything builds from there – the clues, the escapes and the forced closeness between Damon, the Guardian, and Ava, the rescuee turned sleuth heroine. What almost happens to Ava is terrifyingly horrid – she was going to be raped by a group of men/werewolves just shy of a platoon. That’s a hellacious thought and one a reader won’t have to endure. There’s just enough detail to paint a picture of a narrow escape of a fate worse than death. Eventually, the clues mount up and point the direction the hero has to go in order to ensure Ava’s safety now and into the future. One of the clues seems a bit too good to be true and I just rolled my eyes and continued. The overall storytelling is good, the plot, though predictable at times, was engrossing and entertaining and the pace kept up with the action. The novel has its issues but the characters, conflict arc, twists and turns, dialogue and hilarious hijinks with Granny, made reading Her Werewolf Bodyguard fun and worth spending an afternoon with.

Speaking of Granny, she’s a spotlight stealing secondary character that more than made up for the growly seriousness of the hero. Her bedroom toy parties end up playing a pivotal role later on in the story. I’m not saying a word about the color purple. I will giggle, snicker and laugh but I’m not going to tell you why.

Ava ends up being as strong a leading lady as Damon is a strong leading man. There’s a reason they compliment each other so well and it reminds me of the ending of one of my favorite movies, Spaceballs. There’s daring-do, adventure and bad guys in that one too. But, alas there’s only one main bad guy in Her Werewolf Bodyguard and he’s nowhere near as fun as Dark Helmet.

The physical side of their relationship is steamy hot, that is when they aren’t interrupted. I thought the constant barging in of people just when things get heated up between Damon and Ava was comical. When they are finally able to get past those passionate clinches into the good stuff, the clothes come off and the door is open.

I have never read a book by Ms. Vaughn before and as a starter book, I’m impressed. I enjoyed the romance and the happy ever after wrap-up. There are a few male secondary characters in this novel that have that special something, enough to make me inclined to purchase additional books in the series just to see if they fall in love too. If they are as entertaining as Her Werewolf Bodyguard, I’ll be a happy reader.

I adored Gia’s friendship with Vuyo. Both of these characters genuinely liked and respected each other. They disagreed at times like any two people are bound to do, but they both did an excellent job of listening to each other and taking their friend’s point of view into perspective when deciding what steps they wanted to take next to solve the mystery of what actually happened to Gia’s grandfather. I only grew to like these characters more as I got to know them better.

There were some pacing issues. The plot was slower in some scenes and faster in others. Either pacing style would have worked for these characters and storyline just fine, but I didn’t enjoy jumping around between them so often without any clear indication of why things had suddenly slowed down or sped up again. If not for this issue, I would have chosen a much higher rating as the mystery itself was well written.

The fantasy elements of the storyline were given exactly the right amount of space to develop. I was intrigued by the idea of a magical object that looked deceptively innocent but was actually quite dangerous to use. It fit the tone of the storyline well. These details also made me curious to learn more about where that item came from and why anyone would dare to use it once they’d realized what would happen to them if they broke the rules about how and when it should be used.

Anyone who loves magical middle grade mysteries should give The Seeing Scroll a try.

While the angst of Steven finding out his lover, Andy, wasn’t dead but he’d been betrayed into thinking so and mourning for a very long time is a lot to read I was pleased the author hammered all that out pretty much at the beginning of the story. There’s a lot of emotions and hurt for Andy and Steven both to come to grips with and I feel this could have really dragged the story as a whole down. I was so pleased when that wasn’t the case. Yes, there’s a lot of emotion and some angst and a few hurt and angry words, but this part of the story wasn’t extended longer than it needed to be and I feel it was really well handled – enough to be realistic and relatable, but not enough to be overly dramatic or feel like it was dwelled on.

I was grateful when Andy and Steven began to rebuild their relationship together. They both certainly still have scars and there’s a lot of work needed to be done, but it was clear they still deeply cared for each other and them both trying again was a lovely thing to read. I feel readers who enjoy this style of story will find it a quick and wonderful read, full of quite deep emotions and with two interesting, modern and very well drawn characters.

Steamy and wonderful, this was a lovely read and one I’ll enjoy again in the future.

They both had some painful past experiences that could have easily been explored in greater detail. I definitely saw a lot of potential for them to be healing influences in each other’s lives. It simply would have been nice to spend more time learning about who they were as human beings before any romantic sparks began flying between them.

Sprucewood, Colorado was a sleepy little town that I quickly fell in love with. The people there were loving, accepting, and genuinely kind. I couldn’t have imagined a nicer place for Jada to visit while she digested the terribly sad news she’d just received from her family doctor. She needed a soft place to land while she pondered her options, and that’s exactly what she found in this community.

Snowflake Cottage was a gentle, heartwarming read about what it truly means to be a family.

This line is a few pages into this book, and made me literally LOL. I knew I was in for a fun time, right off the bat. You know what I loved most about this book? The characters and the town. The writing is really easy and flows nicely and the dialogue is natural between all the characters (there are a LOT of people in this book). I’m a huge fan of character driven plots, and this one checks all the boxes.

It’s obvious this is part of a series (we have a couple getting ready to get married, for example, and I’m sure they were the H/h in the previous book) but I never felt lost. I do feel as if the whole experience would have been richer and more fun if I’d read the previous books, but I had no issues following anything.

The author shows a realistic version of a divorced family, the struggles they previous spouses go through, the difficulties splitting custody of children, etc. I have to admit I did NOT like Olivia’s ex, Ryan, in the least (one of the first things he does is “smirk” at her and MAN did my irritation level rise at that) and had a hard time believing she’d even try to reconcile, but I’ve actually talked to folks who never wanted to try everything to keep a marriage together.

There’s a lot of angst and issues to overcome on the parts of both Olivia and Luke and that, also, is handled well. Olivia’s twin boys are realistic and precocious and made me want to tear my hair out sometimes (…see?… realistic!). Secondary characters were well-written and well-rounded and everyone was three dimensional and unique. I only have a couple of complaints: there were SO many people, sometimes I had trouble keeping up (this might have been different if I’d read the previous book) and occasionally the book did tend to be a little cheesy, ala your favorite Hallmark Movie. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it did cause me to have an eye roll now and then.

Really, though, this is a nice, solid small-town, character driven romance. You’ll fall in love with more than the main characters here. You’ll fall in love with the whole dang town and its inhabitants. Looking forward to more from Granite Cove!

What happens when a besieged and rather small dragon comes to a vampire and says, “I need your help”? Or when that vampire comes to a werewolf and says, “I have a job for you”? The vampire goes and builds a resort for things that go bump in the night, deep in the Cascade Mountains. Riding the wave of Julia Talbot’s Bloodrose series, the multi-author Cereus: The Building features paranormal romance Sean Michael, Julia Talbot and BA Tortuga.

Julia Talbot’s It’s Elemental features construction contractor Chayton, a werewolf who thinks demon decorator Kenny is a little fussy, and a lot hot. They argue about everything from feng shui to sex. Will they be able to resolve their differences?

The Third Course, by BA Tortuga, tells the story of Marco and Stephan, werecats, pridemates, and chefs who meet their match in head-bartender, Faelan, who just happens to be a growly, sexy Top.

Finally, Sean Michael’s Smoke and Gold follows the head dominant of the club, Zee, who’s dealing with trying to get his playrooms just so and trying to figure out maddening dragon, Daniel, at the same time. Who can resist loving a dragon?

While this book is comprised of three separate novellas it’s quite clear the authors collaborated closely on their work. Woven into their individual stories were small snippets and cameo’s of the main characters from the other stories and so while definitely separate stories there was a cohesion and smoothness to the book as a whole that I really loved.

Readers looking for a slightly different, more complicated series of stories featuring a whole bunch of various paranormal characters in an interesting setting should find this book excellent value (three for the price of one!) and an engrossing read, just like I did.

It’s Elemental by Julia Talbot

Werewolf Chayton is approached by his friend and offered the construction job of building a very special resort specially catered to all the various paranormal creatures that could just a very private and luxurious getaway. But the Demon decorator, Kenny, is quite particular about all manner of things and the sparks fly between Kenny and Chayton.

I was a little nervous about this story at first – I often find stories where the conflict and tension mainly revolves around the two main characters butting heads really struggles to balance the sexual chemistry and attraction with the arguments and differences of opinions. I couldn’t have been more wrong in the case of this story. I adored how while Chayton and Kenny were both very strong characters and exceptional at their own work, they were both secure enough in themselves to at least listen – and usually compromise and meet each other part way. I thought the author did an amazing job balancing having some conflict and sparks between Chayton and Kenny and still unfold a believable and sizzling hot sexual chemistry between the two.

I also really enjoyed the smooth, easy banter between Chayton and Kenny. While it was clear from the start they were two different characters there was a sort of curiosity and open-mindedness between them both that just naturally led (in my opinion) to them wanting to know more, explore deeper, about each other. From there along with the zing of attraction between the two men it was only a short hop into bed and the development of a far deeper and more lasting relationship. I found this entire story fun and engrossing from start to finish and I was hooked from about the second page in. An awesome way to start this book and, I hope, the series.

The Third Course by BA Tortuga

Marco and Stephen are chefs – and both werecats in the same pride. They both find themselves drawn to head bartender Faelan who is a very growly and sexy Top.

I was utterly delighted by how much I enjoyed the banter between Marco and Stephen. All too often I find the troublesome type of behaviour to come across to me as bratty and annoying, but Marco and Stephen so obviously cared deeply for each other and there was always just that hint of laughter and amusement in their banter their actions made me laugh, not roll my eyes. It was also extremely clear to me right from the start that Faelan wasn’t just a good addition to their mix, but much needed to keep both Marco and Stephen from getting out of control and driving everyone else utterly bonkers.

I was really impressed how the author balanced these three characters so well together and how they each had their own very unique and individual aspects. Often in a threesome story one of the characters lags a little behind to my mind – is either overshadows or too close to an “add on” but that totally wasn’t the case here. While Marco and Stephen absolutely had a well defined and solid relationship already in place at the start, I could see how – even as happy as they were – there really seemed to be something lacking in the control department between them. Faelan was perfect for that and he really seemed a perfect fit which I just loved cos it made the whole progression from couple to threesome seem so natural and realistic. The sex was also smoking hot and really explicit – so erotica readers should find this aspect of the story really satisfying as well.

A great story with interesting characters and a wonderful threesome dynamic that I really enjoyed.

Smoke and Gold by Sean Michael

As the head Dominant, Zee is busy and on edge, trying to get all the playrooms ready for their eventual use. But a maddening dragon, Daniel, is just too much for Zee to resist, even with all the work he should be doing.

The chemistry between Zee and Daniel is pretty explosive right from the very first page. I’m usually not a fan of dragon stories so I was hesitant about this one but I was left really impressed and quite eager to read more. Daniel is not what I would think of as a typical dragon-shifter character. While Zee and Daniel are both strong, independent and dominant in their own fashion I really enjoyed how they interacted together. Daniel is not submissive in the style Zee is used to and while Zee is most certainly a strong Dominant, he’s flexible and can adapt in ways I don’t think Daniel had experienced previous to their meeting. So this was clearly a new and intriguing dynamic for both characters and I loved watching it unfurl.

Kinky and hot the sex was explosive between these two men and I feel the story will be very satisfying for readers looking for something along these lines. While nothing in their relationship is outrageously new it still felt fresh, realistic and not cliched to me so I really enjoyed the whole story and was engrossed from start to finish.

I really enjoyed all three of these stories and am looking forward to reading the next installment – Cereus: Opening.

The plot twists were creative and well done. A few of them took me by total surprise which is always an amusing thing to experience. I enjoyed getting this peek at how the author’s imagination worked. He sure seemed to have enjoyed the process of coming up with ways to keep his characters moving towards their goals without reaching them in the manner in which they assumed everything would happen.

This was something I enjoyed reading quite a bit, but there were times when I had trouble matching up the stories of the three cat ambassadors due to how many different timelines and eras they covered. I only wish I’d had a clearer understanding of the order in which everything happened and why their explanations sometimes seemed to be saying stuff that didn’t quite all fit together. Was it a commentary on the way legends can change between generations or among different cultures? Should I have listened more closely to one cat than to the others? If I knew the answers to these questions, I would have gone with a much higher rating.

Mr. Arnold had an elegant writing style that fit the themes of this novella perfectly. I kept a dictionary close by to look up the ornate words he included in his descriptions. Each one of them was carefully chosen and added new layers of meaning to the scenes they were featured in. This is definitely something that should be savored, especially once the cats began sharing their stories about how the reign of man ended and Mars became a feline paradise.

How Cats Survived the Apocalypse was a thought-provoking read that I hope to revisit again soon.

The NewlyFEDS is a charming and fun story about two FBI agents who go undercover together. Since I enjoy reading stories about FBI agents, I thought I would give this a try and I am so glad I did. This story immediately drew me in and held me spellbound until the end.

Special Agent Vin Mills and Special Agent Addison Buckley don’t particularly like each other when they are told they have to pretend they are married and go undercover. I enjoyed how Vin and Addison go from not liking each other, to realizing they are attracted to one another and then doing their best to ignore their growing feelings. They have great dynamics between them and I enjoyed all the smoldering looks they share.

There are a cast of colorful characters as Vin and Addison try to figure out who is laundering money in the rich and elite neighborhood they are now living in. I liked the premise of the story and the characters. Plus there is some mystery and suspense because I was never sure what neighbors were laundering money and I was trying to figure it out along with Vin and Addison.

I really enjoyed this one. It is fun, entertaining and intriguing. I liked the tension flowing between Vin and Addison and they are great together.
