Exactly the right amount of time was on world building. There were several terms that existed in this world but that have no parallels in our own. It was nice to have them explained clearly the first time they were used, especially for the terms that were a little complex. I always felt like I knew what was going on here, and that was definitely a good thing.

There were numerous grammatical and punctuation errors in this story. As keen as I was about the plot itself, it was distracting to encounter so many mistakes as I was reading. They made me hesitant to recommend this to anyone even though I would have otherwise been telling everyone I know who reads science fiction to check it out. If this hadn’t been a problem, I would have chosen a much higher rating.

The characters were thoughtful and intelligent people. I appreciated the way they considered all of their options before making decisions whenever possible. Obviously, there were times in the plot when things were moving too quickly for a leisurely discussion about what they should do, but they took the contemplative route when their adventures allowed for it. This isn’t something I see happening nearly enough in this genre, so I was pleased to find it in an otherwise fairly action packed storyline.

NOUSOPOLIS was a thought provoking peek at one possible future that I’d recommend to anyone who loves the science fiction genre.

I loved that he’s a passionate man. But I wondered often if he needed to many pages. This one tops out at over five hundred. There were times when the story seemed slow and the pacing off. Like I’d been told the same things over, just from another perspective. Sadly, I did have to put this one down a few times before I finished it. He has one heck of a long trip and the longevity of the vampires is definitely shown. I wanted him to find his heart’s delight and rooted for him to do so.

Marius isn’t a perfect character. He’s cruel, passionate, demands what he wants and doesn’t always care who he hurts. But isn’t that just like a vampire? This book is filled with sadness and can be hard to get through. If you’ve read others in the Vampire Chronicles series, then you’ll know much of this story to start. But don’t let that deter you. This is still an interesting book and Marius deserved his tale.

If you’re looking for a book that’s equal parts sad and complicated, but hopeful and beautiful, then this might be the one for you.

Rok’s character development was handled marvelously. There were times when I shook my head at the ways he described the mistakes he’d made in life. He had a knack for talking his way around them without addressing the matter head on, especially when it came to his unwillingness to take full responsibility for his choices. I was as fascinated by this slippery part of his personality as I would have been exasperated by it in real life. Having such an important and realistic flaw made Rok someone I always wanted to know more about no matter how much had already been revealed about him. He couldn’t have been written better.

Some portions of the storyline were narrated by characters other than Rok. As much as I enjoyed hearing from them, I would have preferred to stick with one narrator due to the fact that there were less than seventy pages in total to work with. There was simply so much material to work with that needing to jump between narrators was a little confusing for me at times even though I loved everything else about this tale.

The world building was so intricate that I actually stopped reading a few pages into it to see if I’d accidentally stumbled into the middle of a series. Learning that it was, indeed, a standalone work only endeared me to it more. I already knew I loved Ms. Soleil’s writing style from my previous experience with it. Seeing how skilled she is at creating worlds every bit as believable and complex as our only makes me more eager to see what she comes up with next.

The Mermaids Melt at Dawn was an engrossing read that I highly recommend.

The book, and the story as a whole, kept me well entertained. For me the action, magic, and romance was paced perfectly for this book. It made me come back again and again just to read what happens next and the next after that. I found it hard to put down. Great read!

Roman is a Gargoyle shifter and the leader/captain of his group who protects humans against threats. Roman was instantly attracted towards Larissa. The book was descriptive and so was the sex. It is recommended for readers 18+ yrs. It has a couple of sex scenes with oral but not so much that it feels like it is the only thing you are reading. The story was a great read and I really liked it.

She is charming and likable. The people around her try to figure out if she is mentally ill. Will anyone believe she has truly traveled through time?

In a clever switch-of-bodies scenario, the women go about in the other’s era. This makes for interesting scenarios, while each finds her true love. The points of view of these out-of-time women are refreshingly honest when they face such strangeness.

The book is wrapped up with an informative epilogue. For an engaging time travel story with a great cast of characters, why not give this one a try?

Eric didn’t react like most characters do in horror stories. While he acknowledged that there were some very bizarre and terrifying things happening in this neighborhood, he was so concerned about getting a promotion that he consciously chose to ignore them. I was so hung up on his weird reaction that I couldn’t wait to find out why even the sight of children mutating into things that never should have existed wasn’t enough to shake him out of the stupor he seemed to be in from the very first sentence. This is the sort of mind-boggling twist to normal human behavior that makes me yearn to learn more.

I would have liked to see some time spent explaining exactly what was going on with the moon and how it was affecting all of the scary things happening on Earth. As much as I enjoy coming up with my own theories about the science in science fiction, it sure would have been nice to have a little direction from the narrator about how all of these events were connected.

The gore fit the tone of the tale nicely, especially later on as the world continued to disintegrate and Eric realized that his block wasn’t the only place that had erupted into chaos by far. I do tend to be a little squeamish about that corner of this genre, but I thought the gory sections were written well and were completely appropriate for the subject matter.

Anyone who loves horror and dark science fiction should give Everything’s Fine a try.

Midnight and Lafayette live in an entirely unique fantasy world of magicians and non-magical beings that is put together in a way I have never seen before in the world of Fantasy. Each of these qualities act as interchanging parts that bring suspense to the reader making them question how every aspect fits into the story.

Desperate for a happy outcome The Midnight Before Me was written so thoughtfully by Elizabeth Lo that it has me caring for each character and wondering what their lives are like after the end of the novel.

This is an excellent story for young adults and children alike, filled with lessons of finding one’s true purpose, living life to the fullest, and not being afraid of the things that make us different. It is in these qualities where our true power lies, and as an adult I am thankful to have been reminded of their importance in my life. You will not regret picking up a copy for yourself and letting Midnight Thunder show you that it should not take death to teach you how to live.

Two decades later and much of what Kerigan saw and knew had come true. Unable to direct or select her visions – only able to follow where they led, she knew things would come to a head soon.

I found this to be an interesting and action-packed short story. Apocalyptic stories feel a bit strange to read in the current circumstances, but I found this to be fast moving enough and with an intriguing enough premise that I couldn’t go past it. The story is primarily focused on Kerigan and Hyde, but I was surprised and pleased when mid-way through they hook up with Nolan and Lainey – the two main characters from a previous story. While I have read that previous story (Come With Me) I truly feel it’s not necessary to have read it to enjoy this story. Admittedly having read Lainey and Nolan’s story I found it enriched this book, but Believe In Me stands very well by itself and I don’t think readers picking this up will miss anything plot wise.

If the world built into this story was anything other than an “after the virus wipes most of the human population out” style of scene I’m not sure the quickness Kerigan and Hyde came together would be realistic. While they certainly didn’t trust each other there was a definite and near-immediate bond between them. Part of me feels this was a bit too quick, particularly when Hyde explains he’d been sexually abused as a young man. I just struggled with him telling Kerigan some very dark secrets, and then them being intimate literally in the moments following that admission. I found it jarring and a little odd. I understood how Kerigan and Hyde needed to trust each other were linked in numerous ways, but I can understand if some readers feel they need to disconnect their brains a little and just enjoy the story for what it is and not throw too much logic at the situation of the world having survived the ravages of a virus.

This short story ended on a high note, but more of a Happy For Now style. I expect there will be another book coming some time in the future as the ending closed out this section of the story but left a clear trail of where I expect the author plans to lead into the future. Kerigan and Hyde’s part of the story seemed to be fairly well rounded though and I was satisfied with where the author left us.

With interesting characters, a strong and action-packed post-virus, apocalyptic world and a fast paced story this was a great, quick read.

At first glance, “The Tutor: A Ghost Story” appears to be a narrative of two kids having fun, entertaining each other with ghost stories. By the end though, there is so much more to the tale. Readers won’t see it coming.
