There is an amazing cast of supporting characters that I can’t wait to find out more about – whether through the continuation of Thomas and Kern’s story or their own.

The set up for the world isn’t exactly clear but I’m thinking it’s contemporary with a dash of fantasy. In other words, supernaturals are amongst us, we just don’t have a clue. I love the history about Manx and their protection but still, I want to know more.

This novella does end on a cliffhanger so consider yourself warned. Personally, all it’s done for me is make me want the second book immediately. I thought the ending was brilliant and perfectly fitting for this portion of the story.

If you don’t like cliffhangers, then it may be best if you wait for them all because, trust me, this is a fantastic book. Highly recommended by me.

Despite the length of this book, there has never come one moment where I was either bored or had no idea what happened. It was an action and magic packed trilogy that kept me on my toes. I finished the book in less than 3 days, which was a surprise for me.

The climax is fast paced and hooked me in through the last word, so grab a copy of this book.

I’ve not read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy books, but I do love a good story about space. When I saw this version of the space race where everyone worked together and women were at the head of the program, I had to know more. This is book three in a series and it probably would’ve helped to get the first two read before reading this one. The format is still readable, but it would’ve made more sense to know what was going on. Still, I had to read it.

I have to say I wasn’t a fan of the heroine, Nicole. She’s a hard nut to crack. First, she’s extremely smart, which is good for a heroine. I liked that she could hold her own with her male counterparts. She’s tough and forthright, which was refreshing. But…she’s neurotic. I mean, she’s got anorexia, which is relatable, but it also made me wonder about her in space. If she’s not wanting to eat because of the disorder while she’s on Earth, wouldn’t it be dangerous for her to not eat while in space? Wouldn’t it make doing her job harder? Seemed like it might. And she’s convinced everyone is out to get her. Maybe they are, but maybe they aren’t.

There is also a nasty habit of using a lot of anachronisms for things and getting into heavy technical descriptions in this book. If I were reading a non-fiction book, then this wouldn’t have been as much of a problem. But being it’s a piece of fiction, it took away from my enjoyment of the story. I got bogged down trying to remember what each set of letters stood for and sometimes got lost in the descriptions. I want a book to pull me into their world. Sometimes, this didn’t feel like the case.

This is also a long book. It’s over five hundred pages. There is a bit of slogging to get through it. Now, to be fair, if I’d read the other books in the series, this might have made this book a bit less cumbersome. I might have known the characters better and felt more like they were people. So I suggest reading the first two first.

Still, this is an interesting telling of the space race with women in charge. The Earth is losing it’s battle, the USA is losing pieces and the human race needs to find somewhere else to live. It’s quite fascinating. If you’re looking for a book that’s going to take a while to read, but will be worth it, especially if you’re a space fan, then this might be the book for you.

As interested as I was in finding out what was new with Evelyn and her friends, I did have trouble staying focused on the plot until it picked up speed. The storyline simply moved a bit too slow for me to really get into it until much later on, especially when it came to the main character’s attempts to make good things happen with her art instead of what her previous experiences with it had been like.

Speaking Spanish definitely isn’t a requirement for enjoying this tale, but anyone who does understand that language will get a little something extra in the bilingual scenes. I enjoyed the way the author included these sentences as a bonus while still ensuring that the main storyline was perfectly understandable for anyone who couldn’t or didn’t translate them. It was a lot of fun to figure out those extra layers of meaning.

This was the third installment of a series. I’d recommend reading all of them in order.

Evelyn Illustrated should be read by teens and adults who love art.

There wasn’t a great deal of time spent describing what Trinity, the boarding school where Noah and other children in this society lived between the age of five and eighteen, was like. Having a firm understanding of how kids were treated there was crucial for me to understand why Noah and his friends were so quick to revolt when they found out what had really happened to their missing classmates. The basic framework for a compelling story were definitely there. I simply needed concrete details to help me make the leap from what appeared to be a fairly contented life for them to outright revolution.

The dialogue felt natural to me. It was interesting to see how the characters’ speaking patterns changed depending on how much danger they were in at the moment. They went from speaking full sentences to getting their points across as quickly and quietly as possible. That’s exactly how people tend to react in frightening situations in real life in my experience, so it was nice to see it represented in fiction, too.

Anyone who loves gun battles and action in general should give Outrun Battlefuture a shot, pun intended.

Given that this was my first experience with the author’s writing style, I enjoyed getting a sort of sampling platter of the many different sorts of things they write. They’re the sort of author who seems pretty quite jumping between genres. With that being said, it was a little jarring as a reader to be introduced to so many different types of characters without having resolutions for most of them. I’d be a little hesitant about who I recommended this to because of that. Many people prefer more closure than what was offered here, and I do think that hampered the storytelling after a while because of how unusual this stylistic choice was.

Opening scenes are some of my favorite things to read as well as to write. There’s a real art in explaining enough about a world to draw the reader’s attention in without giving away too many details about what might happen next. I was intrigued by all of the beginnings in this first section and would have liked to see where they ended up. There was definitely a lot of room here for character and plot development as readers only got a brief taste of each scene before moving onto a new one in a different universe. It sure would have been helpful to get to know these characters and their conflicts better. I liked what I saw, but I didn’t get to see a lot of it.

“We Few Old Souls” was the name of the short stories that followed the same group of friends as they took care of each other after accidents and tried to figure out why they all kept being reincarnated and finding each other. This was by far the most interesting section to me. I was fascinated by their various lifetimes and had so many theories about why these characters were destined to meet up again no matter who they were in their latest lives.

The poetry was filled with wonder and emotion. I particularly enjoyed “An Ode to Langston Hughes.” Not only was it written in a style similar to the one this poet used, the subject matter was as timeless as his work, too. These patterns were repeated with the rest of the poems as well. They had conversational styles that made me smile.

Tales From an Odd Mind should be read by anyone who is in the mood for something creative.

The romantic subplot was handled nicely. Not only was the chemistry between Lucy and Nathan on point, they seemed to have compatible lifestyles, personalities, and goals as well. I wanted them to end up together as soon as they had their first scene together, and that wish only grew stronger as I picked up on even more signs that they could be an excellent match. It’s always fun to see two characters who are on the same wavelength like that!

One of the things I loved the most about this story had to do with how realistic Lucy’s problems were in life. She’d been through some true hardships over the years that would have been difficult for anyone to handle. To make matters worse, many of the people in her life were anything but supportive of her troubles in the first few scenes as well. Seeing how she responded to those conflicts showed me so much about who she’d been in the past as well as who she was becoming.

Waffle Cone Magic is a must-read for anyone who has ever wished they could change the past.

I loved how the plot and story are woven together blending the romance and action, steampunk elements and fantasy into a seamless pace and flow that makes it impossible to put down! The characters are another great part of the story. I quickly found I loved the whole cast, and am so glad I got to know them as their story plays out.

A wonderful story my a genre-bending master, Barbara Russell nailed this one with the skilled mastery of words and beautiful author magic to make both world-building and characters fit so perfectly into the story going on around them! 5 stars!

After fighting dragons, wild Vikings, and clockwork monsters, Nathair is facing the biggest challenge of his life: proposing to Bryhannon. Apparently, flowers and a three-month salary worth ring aren’t enough because she doesn’t seem thrilled by the proposal.

Bryhannon loves Nathair; however, she has a devastating power to control, Reapers to face, and more importantly she has to find the courage to tell him she’s one of the deadly, feared Morrigans.

I haven’t read the first book, but if it’s anything near as enjoyable as this one, I need to soon! Having not read the first, and this being a sequel, the odds were against me liking it so much, so I’m thrilled to say that it’s a hit!

I loved reading Bryhannon and Nathair’s story, and get the feeling, at least in part, that these can serve as stand-alones as they each seem to feature a different couple as the main characters, which served me just fine! I loved getting to meet some of the other characters too, and look forward to reading more of their stories as I read the others in the series!

I really enjoyed this one, and am glad to recommend it to readers of fantasy with romantic and Arthurian elements. I recommend reading the whole series, as they seem to be intended that way, but if one strikes your interest, then they can also be read as a stand alone, or out-of-order if you prefer. Recommended.
