With that being said, the ending was well done. I smiled and nodded as I followed every twist and turn. This was where it really started to feel like it was part of the X-Files universe, but it was written in a way that could be understood perfectly well by someone who had no prior experiences with this type of storytelling.

Stella’s character development was handled beautifully. She experienced some difficult events during the course of the plot. Each one of them left its mark on her in ways that might be subtle or profound depending on where she was in her journey and what she was currently doing to make sense of it all. I genuinely liked this intelligent, sensible character and hoped she find all of the answers that she was seeking.

The plot twist at the end made me gasp with delight. It wasn’t something I’d figured out in advance, so it was wonderful to be surprised just when I thought I knew how everything was going to be wrapped up. I was perfectly satisfied with how it resolved the biggest conflicts, but it also made me yearn for a sequel that might go into greater detail about certain parts of this world that I still had a few questions about.

I was also pleased with the world building. The author used every one of the fifty-four pages available to him to make Torrance, Indiana feel nearly as real as any small town I’ve ever lived in or visited. It was neat to sketch out all of the different ways people were connected there and what they actually thought of their neighbors. Just like in our world, not everyone always necessarily got along, but they did respect each other as fellow human beings and hope for the best for everyone in their community.

This was my first experience with Mr. Dygert’s work, and I couldn’t be more impressed. He had a gorgeous writing style that gently pulled me into the normally quiet life in Torrance. Everything from the personalities of the town locals to what the burgers and milkshakes tasted like at everyone’s favorite fast food joint there were described in such exquisite detail that by the last sentence I honestly felt like I’d just returned from a visit to this mysterious little town.

Stella was the best science fiction novella I’ve read in ages. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

This tale included the perfect amount of scariness for young readers. Adult readers who are already fans of this franchise can find many hidden references to storylines and characters that will only make sense if one understands those fleeting moments on a deeper level. This tale had a wonderful sense of humor. Some of the funniest scenes involved Rose’s reactions to her visits to the past. She could scarcely believe what was happening to her! The things that flew out of her mouth as she adjusted to her scenery made me giggle every single time she realized she’d once again been pulled out of her perfectly ordinary life into one that she thought only happened in storybooks.

I would have liked to see more time spent on the world building. There were certain details shared about it that were mentioned briefly once but never fully explained. I was intrigued by the glimpses into this world and wished I could have known more about them. This was especially true when it came to the connections between Rose’s world and the one she suddenly travelled to. There was so much more that could have been done with those scenes.

Rose and Connor were both witty, personable characters who were well suited for each other. I enjoyed getting to know them and taking note of all of the ways in which their personalities and interests matched up. Not only did they have a lot in common, they genuinely liked one another as soon as they met. It’s always nice to see characters hit it off like that from the very beginning.

I’d recommend A Rose in Time to anyone who has ever wished for some excitement in their life.

Sammy is a wonderful, quirky character that everyone who meets him can’t help but love. Unfortunately, he is incredibly shy, seen as a geek and has a bad habit of spewing strange facts when he is nervous, so his dating life is rather pathetic. His parents’ love had kept him going but he lost them a few years ago in a car crash and still mourns them. I love how he takes everything paranormal in stride, not seeming to mind the strange things that happen around him.

Dre is another wonderful, well developed character who does everything in his power to make Sammy happy. He also loves and enjoys the company of his family. When Dre is able to pay more attention to Sammy, they are almost instantly attracted to each other. Dre was struck by Sammy’s boyish, innocent face with bi-colored eyes.

I really enjoyed watching them go on several dates, going anywhere Sammy’s heart desired. In fact, their first date was to Rome where they went to Dre’s favorite restaurant which is owned by a witch and she makes it obvious that she approves of their relationship. Dre is able to create a hole that allows them to go wherever he wants in an instant. It was cute as they had a contest at each place they visited. Whoever could name the strangest facts won.

There is only one thing I wish could have been changed. The romance took a rather long time to develop. I loved these characters and couldn’t wait for them to express their love on a deeper level.

I adore the fun and adventure that goes along with the obvious connection between these two characters. A wonderful paranormal romance with lots of funny moments and geek trivia thrown around.

It is so strong that Amina could actually transport herself to where Hami was.

I highly enjoyed this story and would recommend it to my friends as the plot is hot and sweet at the same time with a few other elements thrown in. It was really interesting watching Hami falling in love with Earth and I can only hope that Amina falls in love with his planet as much as he did with Earth. It is so sweet that he is going to try to make his home more earth like for her comfort. There are a few little wrenches thrown into the plot that I won’t spoil for you.

A great book to pick up on a cold night to keep you warm.

I was really pleased therefore when my whim paid off and this was a great, quick read. I enjoyed Saxon’s character and also found the other three members of their party to be interesting and different enough they didn’t feel like cardboard cut outs. There was some understandable – though slightly cliched – tension between the other characters but since this is the authors first book I was willing to give him some slack. There’s also a few typo’s that I really feel the editors should have picked up and will hopefully be fixed in future editions.

That said I found the meat of the story to be really well handled. I enjoyed the pace – while the length of the story is somewhat short there isn’t a lot of fat or waffling which really pleased me. The story starts as the expedition is beginning – already entering the ice cave in Antarctica and we can see the various elements of the team dynamic already in play. This helped me get a good feel for the other characters and I was glad I enjoyed Saxon’s perspective and character.

Some readers might find a few small sections of the story a little too close to horror or gory for their liking. Personally, I felt the author walked a good balance between a monsters/realistic style of writing and going too far into the horror/thriller dark edginess. To be fair though, there is a bit of “blood and guts” once the monsters start killing off the party. So I feel readers should be aware that while there’s no titillation or glorification of the violence, neither is this a “behind closed doors” style of story either.

While the trope of “hidden ecosystem in Antarctica” is not new I felt the author brought enough novelty and his own imagination to the table that it felt fresh and kept my attention from the start. I admit I’m a sucker for these sorts of stories but I feel this book was really well written – particularly considering it’s the author’s first. I felt the monsters were extremely creepy and realistic – I got a few good frights while reading and the tension and thriller aspects of the story were really well handled.

I really enjoyed this story and will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from this author. Recommended.

Plus, the world hasn’t gone completely lawless and there are still supplies and some form of government around. We get to see three different characters and their journey’s that have different goals but may end up in the same place. Each journey has its own perils and agendas.

The characters are well developed, and we learn a little of Chinese custom and how men and women interreact. We get to see their customs that have been kept alive even during the hard times. Each character that we meet has extreme bravery and a strong will to complete the tasks that have been set out for them.

The characters give us a view of just how much their culture is being held onto besides the horrors and difficulties. We could all learn a lesson watching this family take on two people without demanding recompense. If something like this ever happened, I believe there would be very few people that would keep their hearts open. I adore Mr. Shu because of just how much she cares for Lin and how strong and resourceful she is, especially by taking care of her husband. They are no longer young, and her husband is ailing from asthma. It so sweet watching Lin take the risks that come with walking the streets at night with the roaming gangs to get the medicine he desperately needs along with food. On one of her forays’, she meets the Enforcer, Xi San who does his best to keep the streets safe He is also facing the same issue as Kwan to leave San Francisco as he is becoming run down. He also receives a letter that changes his life and gives him hope for a better future.

This is a wonderful book with a complex plot, wonderful characters especially a strong woman who will do anything to help her father save the world. It will be interesting to see how both the Enforcer and Kwan’s journey goes, and I hope that they somehow meet together on the road. That is the one thing I wish was different, I hoped that we would get to see the end of the journey and what happens. However, like everyone else in the story we must have faith.

This is the third book in the series although I haven’t read any of the previous ones. I do wish I had, simply to be up to date with the story so far. Saying that, I was still able to enjoy this one as a standalone for the most part.

As is usual for the Shifter world, once two shifters meet who are meant to be, it happens pretty quickly. In this though, Max is the one to keep things slow as he gives Caterina time to come to terms with her past. I loved that about him.

Plenty of characters and plenty of action to keep my attention, this was a fast-paced story that flowed from one scene to the next. Definitely recommended by me.

The attraction is there immediately between her and Brenin and yet, once again, they go slow. I loved how phrases were worded, nearly as much as Ana did.

The pacing is perfect for the story, giving you both enough ‘slow time’ with some sexy moments between our two main characters, and also ‘fast time’ when action is the word of the day. Even characters you don’t know that well wriggle under your skin and make you feel.

The ending of this book will definitely leave you wanting more… immediately! A brilliant start to a series I want more from. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.
