Jake, a twice divorced father, has given up on finding love until his good friend, Amory, finds herself suddenly single. The complicated romance between them is hot and lusty while they remain discreet when their combined group of four children are around. Amory has never been on her own and wants to prove to herself that she doesn’t need a man to survive. Jake needs her and a good mother for his girls, but trying to convince her to give in and stay with him isn’t going to be easy, especially with his jaded past.

“There was something dangerous and desperate in his eyes, the eyes of a man who looked like he was at the end of his rope with nowhere left to go but down. She knew that feeling; she lived with it every day.”

Jake and Amory met through innocent circumstance, but this did not stop the desire and attraction that the two secretly held for the other. Jake has his rugged good looks, wears soiled work clothes and is a twice divorced, broke single father with two girls, renting a home and has credit card debt a mile long. Amory is a mother of two boys and is in a marriage where she has all the material things, but her husband is a pompous self-absorbed jerk. For the past year she has been sitting with Jake’s two girls until he gets home from work. Amory admires Jake, a simple man who loves his children and works his butt off trying to give them a decent life. This admiration is from a distance until Amory’s husband decides to walk out on their marriage.

I really enjoyed this book. The author has two people that are going though the motions of everyday living, and each knowing they are missing out on something greater. Day in and day out they deny themselves, and resist what’s right there in their face. Even after Amory knew her marriage was over she had an internal battle to take time to care for herself, to do the things she has wanted to do or follow her heart. This to me was so realistic, because this was a real life occurrence. If everything wrapped up so perfect it would have been a fantasy. For this reason I found myself rooting for Amory and Jake because they knew their faults and were willing to face them. Jake knew he had a crappy track record with women. He knew he wasn’t financially stable to keep Amory in the status she was accustom to. And he also realized his maturity in not only selecting a woman for her physical attributes but her qualities. I admired Jake and his journey into being a man and trying to handle things as a man. I think this was a very positive input by the author.

Another plus about the book was that Amory’s boss, Claire gave her a Dr. Phil moment. This really seemed like something that would happen in real life, where as we have friends and/or family to give us uplifting and encouraging words during emotional torn times in our life. Jake’s oldest daughter was wise and unselfish for a teenager. She saw that Amory and her dad needed each other and she was for them being together.

I enjoyed the author’s writing style. She wasn’t too wordy or overly descriptive. She has a believable story that made me want to continue reading to see the out come for the characters. I connected with the characters, felt their hurts and also found myself wanting a positive ending because they deserved to be happy. I would like to have known how long Amory was married and also Amory’s and Jake’s age. This in no way took away from the storyline, but would have been a nice character accompaniment.

One line I remember from the story is “…things weren’t ideal, they already cared for each other. And that was what mattered most.” This statement made the title Extra Baggage really fitting. They each had past relationships, hurt, disappointments, etc. but they each had courage and were willing to try again.

This remarkable novella by Anastasia Rabiyah is a powerful testament that not all books have to be fantasy to give a fulfilling read. I definitely will add her previous books to my list to read.

Rob’s been working like the proverbial dog for months when he takes a trip to Granier Falls with his sister. Grateful for the break, he can’t believe his good fortune when he meets Maddie. She’s playful, fun, unpretentious with a beguiling innocence and unlike any woman he’s met in recent memory.

A long distance friendship soon turns into a torture of its own for Rob who shows up on her doorstep with nothing more on his mind than the hope of a wild weekend with the woman he can’t forget.

Cursed from birth, both he and his sister share a trait that they can’t explain, and have feared since their very power forced them out on the run. When there is a faint flicker of hope for a normal life, it crashes around him when his sister is yanked out of her home. Trouble from his past collides with the force of Maddie’s over-protective family and Rob is faced with the challenge of a lifetime–save his sister, love Maddie, or lose them both.

All he wants is a normal life with Maddie in Granier Falls. But the truth about his power could ruin it all before the end of the weekend.

What starts out as innocent phone calls between Maddie and Rob had turned into something far more sensual. When Rob turns up on her doorstep one night they finally can stop talking and start doing. But Maddie has a few secrets, the biggest one being that she’s a witch. What she doesn’t know is Rob has a few secrets of his own – and soon both their hidden issues are going to break free and cause them both problems. Quickly they realise they’re going to have to come clean and trust each other.

This is a smoking hot book. The chemistry between Maddie and Rob leaps up from the page and grabs you by the throat. There are quite a few subplots revolving around both Maddie and Rob’s secrets and their assorted family members in particular. While these smaller plots interwoven together are interesting it’s the relationship blossoming between Maddie and Rob that really captured my attention. Showing really human concerns, personal issues and learning to trust another with one’s heart this story touched a number of tender places and held on tightly to my emotions.

With an easy, smoothly flowing writing style and characters that linger in your mind long after you’ve put the book down, this is certainly an author I plan to keep an eye out for. Add in scorching hot sex and a hero to die for – this is an excellent way to inject some spice into a quiet weekend.

Purr is a paranormal story with a bit of a twist – werecats instead of the more traditional werewolves. I like how the authors have changed up some of the more common threads in the paranormal genre and definitely made this story their own. The sex is smoking hot and peppered heavily throughout the entire story. Definitely not for the faint of heart, make sure you have some water or a nice cold shower nearby.

I found this story quite refreshing, not only for the world/paranormal rule changes the authors have made, but also the risks they took with the plot. This isn’t always a happy, fuzzy, warm story, but one where real loss and grief occur. While there is a happy ending, it’s simultaneously bittersweet in some instances – and yet I still finished this story with a sigh of satisfaction. For Paranormal lovers looking for something a little different, this will definitely hit the spot.

If a girl can’t find one Mr. Right, is that because there are two?

Emily Anderson is ready for a change. Stuck with an unfulfilling job and a lousy love-life, she can’t wait to do something daring for her birthday. When a friend sends her to an exclusive resort on the shores of Lake Michigan, she vows to have a little “me” time. She doesn’t count on spending erotic moments with two men she’s lusted after for years.

Jonathan Franklin has always carried a torch for Emily, but they’d only dated on and off. When the opportunity to introduce her into his ménage lifestyle arises, he doesn’t waste time. Chemistry between them flares, and he’s thrilled that she accepts his friend Ben into their bed as well.

Ben Clarkson is Jon’s business partner and closer-than-a-brother best friend. He’s searching for the right woman for their ménage and wants to start a family. Having Emily in their midst heats his blood and brings the dreams closer to reality.

They’ll have to find common ground outside of the bedroom in order for Emily to find her two Mr. Rights.

Jonathan and Ben have a week to introduce Emily to their lifestyle and convince her that it is worth it to take a chance on a relationship with them. Emily is at a crossroads herself and must come to terms with her own life before she can decide on her future with the two men.

While I am a big fan of this author I had a hard time connecting with these characters and found it hard to lose myself in their story. Each of the characters seems to be the extreme of their personalities. Ben is a brash young man who says whatever comes to his mind and even though he truly is a nice guy under all his bravado he comes off more as a jerk and Jonathan is the total opposite, so overly sweet and overcompensating for Ben’s harshness that is becomes too much. Emily is so very naive and wishy-washy that is started to get on my nerves. She constantly second guesses the men’s motives for every little thing and cannot make a decision without knowing the outcome of things years in advance. All of this made this a dry and sometimes an annoying read for me.

I did enjoy the concept of the story and the character of Lynda, Emily’s best friend. From the interaction she has with Emily Lynda seems like a likeable character and I hope that she gets her story told. I also enjoyed the idea of Redemption Cove. It seems like a really nice community and I hope that we get to read many stories that center around this place. The strong friendship that Ben and Jonathan have is a wonderful thing and I enjoyed seeing them work through the rough spots that they encounter in this book. Friendship plays a big part in this story whether it is the men’s or the women’s it adds a nice touch to the book. I hope to be able to come back to Redemption Cove and find out more about its inhabitants and friendships.

Serena’s heart is tied to an outlaw. All her life she has been an outcast. Evil is tormenting her and the pack. Her only hope is her motorcycle riding, biker werewolf, Bruno. Together they will face their nightmares and goodness will prevail.

Bruno was a wolf shifter who had been banished from his pack because he wanted to travel the world spreading the word of God instead of taking his place in the pack. His brother, who was pack leader, made sure that Bruno was ousted and because of this he was no longer able to be with the woman he loved, Serena. Bruno was on his way back to his home and pack after having a dream that his home was burning. He knew that the Lord would forgive him for taking a break because he had to see if his dreams were true.

Serena was huddled in the cave, everything and everyone in her pack had been killed and she was the only one left. She hoped and prayed that Bruno would come back to save her and find a way to rebuild their pack. She could still hear the spirit calling to her, trying to get her to cross over the sacred barrier so that he could touch her. Serena knew that if the evil spirit got her there would be no hope for her at all.

Devil’s Tavern III: Possession is an unusual book because it mixes religion in with paranormal. This is the first book that I have read where a shifter has left his pack to go spread the word of God, then come back because of the premonition he had about his home being destroyed. It was an interesting story but somehow I couldn’t really get into it. The premise was interesting, the story was well written and the characters were likeable. It’s just that the story left me unsure about how I felt about it, especially since this was not the end of Bruno and Serena’s journey. I would recommend you read for yourself because you may find things in it that I missed. I have to say that Crymsyn Hart is a very creative writer and I would absolutely read another of her stories.

What she doesn’t expect is to wake up in the middle of the night and find her statue replaced by a living, breathing, gorgeous man made up of the four elements.

Gabriel’s been a statue for 500 years. He’s lost, confused, and wreaking havoc on the human realm.

In an effort to get Gabriel home, Autumn experiences adventure she’d never even dreamed about. But will they be able to survive the greatest adventure of all- falling in love?

Among the things August inherits from her uncle is a statue. Little does she know the stone figure has the ability to destroy the world.

August takes over her uncle’s castle and begins to clean, tidy and clear out the junk to prepare the building for use as a bed and breakfast. A statue hidden in a corner of her uncle’s study catches her fancy and she decides to keep this for herself and moves it to her bedroom where she cleans it. This is when the fun begins as the statue comes to life in the middle of the night and climbs into bed with August.

Gabriel, the statue come to life, is an Elemental who turned to stone because when he became separated from all of his kind. August’s care and feelings for Gabriel bring him back to life but now his true nature upsets the elements of Earth. He must return to his true home and to keep himself alive until he can find his people, August must go with him.

This is a book with humor and love, in an unusual setting. There are many problems facing Gabriel and August but I honestly couldn’t see how they could sort out the main barrier to their love. They physically couldn’t stay together but also couldn’t physically be apart without disastrous consequences. I loved August’s sense of humor and her “must be a way” attitude. Sweetly confused Gabriel would have melted any woman’s heart. Big and athletic he could change his body to reflect each of the four elements, plus he had wings! Talk about sweep a girl off her feet, how about fly to another dimension? Oh yes, did I mention the dragon? Well you’ll have to read the book to find out about him.

This is definitely a romance set in mystical times but with subtle modern influences. I fell in love with Gabriel myself, pity he’s a fictional character. A perfectly lovely read.

But this year for Christmas, she wants something entirely different. She wants off the Nice List and in a big way. So when Jack shows up at her house she’s more than ready to let him show her just how to get on that naughty list. Jack is just as tired of his job of taking care of the naughty list for Santa. Feeling empty inside and wanting more from his life he finds himself drawn to Cadence and her sweetness. Both know that this night will more than likely be it for them but can they ignore the feelings they each begin to have for the other?

I really enjoyed this story. Jack is a bad boy through and through but he has a heart underneath all his bravado and Cadence may be just the woman to tear down the walls he has built around it. I loved watching the attraction that the two feel for each other turn into so much more as the story goes on. I adore Jack and was glad to see that Cadence was able to see the man behind his façade. She’s a smart woman who soon learns how to stand on her own because of Jack. The two make a wonderful couple. Each one complimenting and giving the other just what they need.

These characters where vividly brought to life for me and the author did a great job of pulling me into their world right from the very start. The love these two begin to share shines right off of the pages and when the end came and I had to leave it had me wishing I could come back and visit them again.

Can love overcome the destructive force of an unnatural secret?

Alone since his boyfriend left him for another man, Jake Holiday has been working his bookstore, treading water, and keeping to himself. It was simple and uncomplicated.

Delany Coltrane changed that.

Turning a corner looking for an address, Del wasn’t expecting to find the hot guy hidden under the stack of boxes, but couldn’t regret needing to ask for directions. Not when Jake was his wolf’s mate, and too damn sexy to ignore even if he weren’t.

But with money problems and safety at the bookstore an issue, can Del and Jake find a middle ground to let their attraction flourish? Because trust is essential to share Del’s largest secret with Jake. A secret that encompasses not just Delany, but his whole family.

It isn’t often that mates are equally matched. That is exactly how I see Jake Holiday and Delany (Del) Coltrane. Both are built similarly, both men love unconditionally, and both come with baggage. Jake is so worried about his problems and how they will affect his relationship with Del that he doesn’t even realize that Del may have just as many if not more issues that will be brought to the bedroom.

The only detail I would have liked to have seen elaborated was the lycanthrope aspect of the story. I like to see the second nature of a person/shifter to play a large role in their behavior and actions. The only time Del’s shifting abilities played a role were in the bedroom. If it would have been elaborated just a little more this would have been the prefect story for me.

The relationships develop within this story worked really well. I think that Del is the perfect pursuer and when he sets his mind to something he sticks with it. While this helps the relationship it proves to also hurt it in the long run. Both men are lovers each can be proud, whether it is meeting the folks or in the bedroom.

This was a beautiful love story between two deserving men and I was happy to share the experience with them.

Rex and Gage are both wonderful, hard working men who will do anything to show Dali how much they love and care for her. Even though Gage and Rex are werewolves and must explain this to Dali, most of this story is based around the feelings that they begin to have for one another and the trust that must be earned. The feelings that the three have for each other are so intense that they burn up the pages and the love that Gage and Rex have for Dali is so wonderful that I could not help but root for them and hope that Dali listened to her heart in the end and forgave them.

Diana DeRicci writes a wonderful story full of love and trust. The characters are full of depth and emotion making this a book that I could not put down. I will definitely be looking for more from this author in the future.
