While on an early morning patrol in the swamps of Whiskey Bayou, Louisiana wildlife agent Gentry Broussard spots a man leaving the home of voodoo priestess Eva Savoie—a man who bears a startling resemblance to his brother, whom Gentry thought he had killed during a drug raid three years earlier. Shaken, the agent enters Eva’s cabin and makes a bloody discovery: the old woman has been brutally murdered.

With no jurisdiction over the case, he’s forced to leave the investigation to the local sheriff, until Eva’s beautiful heir, Celestine, receives a series of gruesome threats. As Gentry’s involvement deepens and more victims turn up, can he untangle the secrets behind Eva’s murder and protect Celestine from the same fate? Or will an old family curse finally have its way?

The strength of this novel, which I greatly enjoyed, was in its amazing descriptions. Vivid pictures were painted of the setting, the characters and more. I felt the humidity of the swamps, and I feel as if I’d know the characters if I saw them on the street. Everyone was clearly painted, three dimensional and unique, even those who didn’t spend a lot of time on the pages. Between these descriptions and the characters, I was absolutely intrigued.

The story was interesting, if a bit far-fetched. I enjoyed the look into the various habits and superstitions shared by many on the bayou and how they were shown without prejudice. They just were. I wasn’t as curious about the mystery, to be honest, as I was by the journey the characters were on. Ceelie and Gentry were both wounded and alone and it was fascinating watching them learn about each other and how to be together. I really felt the romance was believable and worth the read.

This was my first book by this author, and I enjoyed her voice and way of writing so much, I’d love to read more.

An engrossing and thought provoking novel that examines the intricacies of marriage, friendship, and the power of unexpected connections…

Annabel Ford has everything under control, devoting her time to her twin five-year-old boys and to keeping her household running seamlessly. So when her husband of a decade announces that he’s leaving her, without warning, she’s blindsided. And suddenly her world begins to unravel.

Single mother Piper Whitley has always done her best to balance it all—raising her daughter Fern by herself and advancing her career as a crime reporter. Only now that she’s finally met the man of her dreams, Fern’s absentee father arrives on the scene and throws everything into a tailspin.
For the first time, researchers had a reliable count of men and tadalafil buy cheap could relate their medical histories to other diseases and disorders. Married to the heir of a thriving media conglomerate, Mackenzie Mead has many reasons to count her blessings. But with an imperious mother-in-law—who’s also her boss—and a husband with whom she can no longer seem to connect, something has to give.

On the surface, these three women may not have much in common. Yet when their lives are thrust together and unlikely friendships are formed—at a time when they all need someone to lean on—Annabel, Piper, and Mackenzie band together to help each navigate their new realities.

Realistic and filled with flawed, believable characters, Some Women was both incredibly difficult and a complete joy to read.

We follow the eventually intersecting lives of three women going through tumultuous times in their lives. Annabel’s husband very suddenly walks out and wants a divorce, single mom, Piper has just had her boyfriend move in with her and her (suddenly sullen) daughter and Mackenzie is struggling to find her place in life.

All the characters, from the main ones to secondary, are exceptionally drawn. They’re all unique and real. I really liked that everyone had flaws. I started out really not particularly liking Annabel, for example…she was so over-the-top driven and it was no wonder her husband decided to walk. He was a little bit of a jerk, too, but I could see both sides and understand them. And there were times I wanted to slap Piper’s daughter, Fern, but as time went on I understood where she was coming from.

Sometimes the actions the women took were laugh out loud funny and others just made me sigh and roll my eyes. Certain small things I found a little difficult to believe (for example, Annabel has twin boys and one has a peanut allergy, yet the other one “lives on” PB&J sandwiches … I have friends who have children with nut allergies and they don’t allow peanut butter anywhere near their homes since their kid could, yanno, die from it). but those things were minor and didn’t detract from my enjoyment once I’d scratched my head and moved on.

All-in-all a thoroughly enjoyable novel filled with drama, angst and a decent amount of humor as well as both HEA and HFN endings for the women. Those readers who enjoy women’s fiction would be well served to pick this one up. Recommended.

In the epic conclusion of the Fierce Hearts series, the colony takes its biggest risk of all to shut down the Nexus Group forever – will Lara and Booker survive to take their second chance at love?

This story starts off with immediate tension. Our heroine, Lara, is in danger right off that bat. She’s attacked and does her best to protect herself (can I just say how much I love a kick-butt heroine?) but is simply overwhelmed. Thankfully, Booker is nearby to help.

Some time ago, I read another book in this series (Secrets), so have some insight into the backstory and world-building here. Still, I clearly missed something in between the books, so the martial law that’s been imposed on the town was unexpected. The tension due to this conflict is almost unbearable at times. Everyone is tip-toeing around and worried about a million different things. And it’s all building to the crescendo at the end…

Author Lynn Crandall has a wonderful way with words and description. She makes the scenes and characters come to life in her books, and this one was no exception. The shifters, the setting, the soldiers are all described clearly but not to the point where my eyes glazed over. She also balances the romance with the suspense nicely, and I’d say this book is split right down the middle, so should appeal to both romance readers and those who prefer suspense.

The relationship between Lara and Booker was incredibly sweet… friends first and so much affection and trust from the start. They have their share of bumps, but I never doubted they’d make it through.

I do wish I’d read all the books in order. While the author does a good job catching readers up who aren’t entirely familiar with the series, I still feel that I missed things and that my experience with the book would have been much richer if I’d read them all. With the author’s writing skill and the interesting plot line, I’m sure I’d have been completely engaged in them all and am comfortable recommending this series to lovers of paranormal romance and suspense.

If you like hot sex with a little bit of story, this is a great choice for you.

Cassie was a heroine I had mixed feelings about… on the one hand, she seemed smart, independent and capable. The kind of woman I’d want my daughter to emulate. On the other hand, we find out she’s having an affair with a married man, which put me off her quite a bit. Had the author not included that tidbit about her, I would have really admired our heroine.

Our hero is a veteran just back from the war. He’s hanging out in an abandoned barn on his way to a potential job across country. He’s sees Cassie before she sees him, and he’s intrigued. He’s definitely a go-getter who goes after what he wants, and from the start he wants her.

Although I had to suspend reality and disbelief a bit (because she meets a scruffy stranger and immediately has sex outside in the grass with him–do people actually do that?) I finished this story because the writing itself was solid. The story may have been a stretch for me, but the author has serious skills. Yes, the sex is hot and frequent and authentically described. Yes, the hero is hot and sexy and smart and all the things we want in our romance novel men. I’m still not 100% in love with Cassie (I just have a hard time getting past her willingly being the other woman), but she made a smart choice at the end, so I’ll give her a break and wish her a long and happy future with her sexy vet.

The Outsider is a good choice for a reader who’s looking for a quick, sexy read.

Miki Vincent’s entire life stalled because she’s addicted to the beginnings of things, especially relationships. She relishes in the emotional highs, first hugs, first kisses that new love brings. But sex always ruins it. That’s why abstaining during the first three months of a relationship—following the 90-day rule—was supposed to help land her down the aisle with Mr. Right. Miki finds out the hard way, Mr. Wrong can wait that long, especially if his ultimate prize is her inheritance.

But following her own rule sends her life into an out of control spiral in which she’s sentenced to more than perpetual break-ups. A new pursuit and a string of sexy suitors offer her the opportunity to jumpstart her life and test her new strategy. The only problem? It just might work.

Miki’s best friend Pam, a repressed artist, struggles to keep her honeymoon alive but she can no longer ignore the blatant evidence staring her in the face: Her husband is having an affair. A different kind of “honeymoon plan” designed to free her from her troubles, and a chance meeting with a handsome artistic stranger, help reignite her passions. But will they destroy her marriage in the process?

12 Honeymoons had me laughing from the first page. Miki is a hoot, with a smart, sarcastic sense of humor and a mouth that won’t quit (and gets her in trouble quite regularly). While I admittedly don’t agree with her outlook on life, watching her pursue it was so much fun.

I wasn’t as enamored with Pam. Not that she wasn’t an interesting character, but I’m a huge believer in keeping marriage vows and communication with your spouse, and she … wasn’t. Not really. Yes, she thought her husband was cheating. I was frustrated that they didn’t just sit down together and have a real, honest conversation. So, I had ill feelings toward her for the entire book and just couldn’t root for her.

Thankfully, Miki’s story made everything better. It was almost a case of “be careful what you wish for”. By the end of the book, her cup definitely ran over! LOL!

KL Brady is a master wordsmith as well. Amazing, but completely non-intrusive descriptions that put you right into the story, realistic (if a bit larger than life) characters, a silly but believable storyline. She really has skills and I was thoroughly enthralled by her ability. Honestly, I think she might be the kind of author who could write a book about anything and make it interesting. She’s that good. If there hadn’t been the second storyline about Pam, this honestly would have rated much higher marks. And really, that’s a personal dislike of mine that might not be an issue for anyone else.

I recommend giving this book a read, especially if you’re a fan of romantic comedy. KL Brady knocks it out of the park, and I can’t wait to read the next book she writes.

Leah has a new veterinary practice and a new life with no ties to her nightmare. But Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent Alex Morgan suspects something. And when another woman’s body is found, stabbed twenty-three times, Leah knows her past has found her.

IT KILLS

As Leah and Alex untangle the horrifying truth, he watches her, ready for the perfect moment. Until death—that was the vow they made. And a killer always keeps his word…

Far more suspense than romance, I’ll Never Let You Go had a heart-stopping plot.

The heroine, Leah, is incredibly strong. She (barely) got away from her abusive husband once and is determined to never be a victim again. She has a lot of deep-seated fears and a little bit of OCD behavior (like checking and re-checking her locks), but who could blame her. She manages to lead a pretty normal life despite it all. I really loved how she recognized her weaknesses but took steps to overcome them. Leah was a woman to be admired.

Alex is part of the internal affairs department at the police department and not well-loved by his fellow officers (except his family, who are all involved in law enforcement in some manner). Still, he has strong values and convictions and manages to not let it really affect him. And when he has to investigate Leah’s best friend, he uses Leah to get information, not realizing that eventually he’d find himself legitimately attracted to her. I got a kick out of Alex and his interactions with his family. He’s an awesome guy, but almost a little too perfect. I don’t think he honestly had any flaws. He was handsome, smart, honorable … but he was also likely exactly what Leah needed. Her former husband certainly had his share, so perhaps Alex in all his perfection was the only thing that would have worked for her.

The story is packed with twists and turns. While I wouldn’t say it was a non-stop, adrenaline pumping suspense, it certainly kept me thinking and wondering. All the hard evidence from the past points to Leah’s husband being dead, but everything happening now screams that he’s alive. I knew there had to be a twist somewhere, and there is, but you won’t find out until the very end!

The main reason I chose the rating I did here, though, was because the book is marketed as romantic suspense and it really isn’t. The romance is nearly nil. Calling the heat “spicy” is almost a misnomer—as there is one very briefly described (no sexy details) sex scene and honestly, the first three-quarters of the book, it’s really as if Leah and Alex are barely friends. Yes, there is a HEA for them, but it’s a pretty quick turn of events. Believable, I suppose, but I really missed seeing the relationship truly develop over the course of the entire book.

So, don’t go into this expecting romance like I did. You’ll likely be disappointed. Go into this for a mystery instead and then you’ll get the most enjoyment from the story. Mary Burton is a very good writer, with a clever mind and clear description. The next time I pick up a book of hers to read, though, I’ll know what to expect.

Every day of tropical bliss may be an invitation to disaster, but with her twin brother on her trail and a new relationship on the horizon, Libby is determined to forget about fate. Will she risk it all to live—and love—a little longer?

From critically acclaimed author Camille Pagán comes a hilarious and hopeful story about a woman choosing between a “perfect” life and actually living.

Alternately exceptionally deep and heart-rending and absolutely hysterical, Life and Other Near-Death Experiences was nothing like I expected and completely enjoyable.

From the first page, I was both chuckling at Libby’s attitude and heart-broken at the way her life was crumbling around her. She has the kind of snarky, internal (and sometimes external) humor that I absolutely enjoy. Despite her world falling apart, she moves forward and makes choices and does what needs doing. Sometimes I questioned her choices, but not having walked in her shoes, how would I know what the “right” way to behave would be.

The author has a descriptive but breezy style that’s so easy to read. While this isn’t my typical genre, I’m glad I grabbed it. It was both edifying and uplifting and so very interesting. Parts were a little draggy, but mostly I zipped right through the book. From Chicago to the tropics, I was right there with our heroine as she went from giving up and deciding to die, to learning how to live and love again. It was an incredible journey that sometimes left me breathless and ultimately left me moved. I’m glad I decided to pick it up and recommend it to any reader who enjoys a book both meaningful and completely entertaining.

We know her name. We know of her naked ride. We don’t know her true story.

We all know the legend of Lady Godiva, who famously rode naked through the streets of Coventry, covered only by her long, flowing hair. So the story goes, she begged her husband Lord Leofric of Mercia to lift a high tax on her people, who would starve if forced to pay. Lord Leofric demanded a forfeit: that Godiva ride naked on horseback through the town. There are various endings to Godiva’s ride, that all the people of Coventry closed their doors and refused to look upon their liege lady (except for ‘peeping Tom’) and that her husband, in remorse, lifted the tax.

Kamagra for buy viagra online erectile dysfunction is mostly recommended to overcome the problem vary from one person to the other. Naked is an original version of Godiva’s tale with a twist that may be closer to the truth: by the end of his life Leofric had fallen deeply in love with Lady Godiva. A tale of legendary courage and extraordinary passion, Naked brings an epic story new voice.

Though historical romance is not my usual genre, I was very interested in reading this book. We know the legend of Lady Godiva, now I got to meet the woman and see the author’s interpretation of the story behind her ride. I’m glad I did.

First off, be warned that the author’s writing style might not resonate for everyone. She uses fragments, and some choppy sentences, but I didn’t find it intrusive. I zipped through the pages, interested in the world she built. I confess that I’m not well-versed in many of the historical references or mores of the times, so can’t comment on whether they are correct, but I completely enjoyed seeing the way life was then.

Godiva is strong and loving. She comes from a family who adores her and is destroyed when her parents are killed. Yes, she’s young and a bit naïve at times, but she does what she needs to do in order to care for her people. She’s a ruler and a woman to be admired.

We readers aren’t sure whether to root for her relationship with Leofric, whom she marries from necessity, especially when we know he is the one who will eventually cause her to shame herself and ride naked through the town. Is he a good man or an evil one? Should she have married her childhood friend, Edmund, instead?

I admired the author’s story telling prowess and imagination, along with the little historical tidbits she sprinkled in here and there; the day-to-day routines, the food, the herbs. The secondary characters, too, were well drawn, which isn’t always easy to do in a book written in first person.

While, at its heart this is a romance, it’s not a typical one, and those going in expecting that might be disappointed. It’s a dramatic retelling of a historical event that includes romance, but also so much more. I enjoyed this book, and am glad I had the chance to read it.

Due to a fortuitous circumstance, Wyatt and his friends are invited to the star-studded opening of Monsterland. In a theme park full of real vampires, werewolves and zombies, what could possibly go wrong?

Not quite horror (despite some gore), but certainly plenty scary in parts, Monsterland was a great read.

First off, I have to say this: author Michael Phillip Cash has serious writing chops. From the first line I was plunged into the story with his clear, vivid descriptions and interesting scenes. The characters were so clearly drawn I felt as if I sat right there with them on the couch in the home watching the TV. I was really impressed.

The story was interesting. Occasionally scary, occasionally funny, sometimes desperately sad, I was completely engrossed. Is it an unlikely scenario? Absolutely. Most dystopian-type books that I read I’ll nod and think, “Yep, I can see that happening.” but not so much this one. Did that diminish my enjoyment? Not really. But, honestly, that’s mostly because I was so crazy about the characters. There were a few places where I really had to suspend my belief in reality for this, but I didn’t care. I’d have followed Carter and Wyatt anywhere.

The story does start a little slowly, but it sort of had to in order to introduce us to what’s going on…a town that’s on the brink of collapse, a virus that turns people into zombies, a wealthy businessman who’s going to save everyone with his theme park and Carter’s suspicion of the guy’s motives.

I really loved Carter. He’s trying so hard to be a good dad to his step-kids, both of whom are teens so it makes it that much harder for him to connect with them. They have the “you’re not my dad” syndrome, but he doesn’t give up. He’s a great guy. Despite wanting to slap the boys now and then, they grew on me and definitely did some growing up and maturing during the story.

There is some strong language and descriptive gore throughout, so be warned if that’s not your thing. But if it is? You should definitely give this book a go. It was a winner for me, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for more from this author.

Mackenzie Steele assumed she’d be with her husband forever. He was her best friend, the father of her children. But when weeks turned into months without intimacy, she realized she was too young to feel so old. She wanted to feel desirable again, to find the woman Ryker had fallen in love with twenty years ago. And there was only one way she knew how to do that… by asking him to move out.

Ryker was blindsided when his wife told him she wanted to separate. He knew they’d hit a roughpatch, but he’d never allowed himself to imagine his life without her. Now he had no choice. Shewas happy without him, living life on her own terms, and he knew if he didn’t find a place for himself in her new life, it would be too late to save his marriage.

Certainly realistic and maybe a little close to home for those of us who’ve been married for a very long time, the conflicts in Ryker are largely internal, and based on what happens when a couple stops making an effort to keep their relationship fresh and new.

Mac realizes her marriage isn’t working, not like it was, so she decides to separate. Honestly, it was a little tough to read about, and also tough to sympathize with her. I’m a big believer that divorce is a last resort and usually reserved for things like abuse or infidelity, not for “I don’t know if I love you enough any more” or “I need to find myself.” So, Mac wasn’t my favorite person at first and she felt a little selfish, which I couldn’t really identify with. Yeah, they had problems, but a separation seemed a little extreme. She was pretty “me” focused at first, and that may appeal to some folks, and yes it was good to see her find some satisfaction out of her life again, but I still kept thinking she could have done it without sacrificing her marriage. Still, as I watched Ryker get his wake up call, it may have been required to really make him see that things needed fixing. Both she and Ryker were completely devoted to family, though, and that link helped keep them working toward a way to rebuild their relationship.

Thankfully, over time, I grew a bit more attached to Mac and enjoyed reading about her and Ryker. Sometimes the plot was a little draggy, and there honestly wasn’t a ton of conflict, but I never wanted to stop reading. I needed to make sure this couple was going to make it! There are sexy parts, which were hot but not over the top erotic. It was, I think, just the right amount of spice to add to the story, was never gratuitous and served to keep movement going forward (especially since lack of intimacy was one of the issues in their marriage).

All-in-all a solid, later in life story. Sort of refreshing, honestly, in a world full of twenty-something romance. The author has a solid grasp on the subject and I certainly enjoyed reading it. I understand there will be more stories about Ryker’s family, so I’m betting I’ll see Ryker and Mac again. It’ll be fun to see how they progress as more time passes.
