I found this intriguing as each character has something important to add to the plot. Each chapter peels back another layer, revealing the roots of the problems bit by bit. I will say that this format did slow the pacing down. Since the chapters alternates between the perspective of several of the main characters, I needed to re-adjust my mindset with each change. I interpret chapters from Sadie’s perspective much differently than those from the perspective of Camille, the woman Will has an affair with, or Mouse, a young girl whose true identity isn’t revealed until the novel’s conclusion.

The nature of the subject matter also made it more difficult to get through this book. This book contains a lot of heavy material including violence and child abuse. As I read, the weight of it all pressed on me, and I needed to set the book aside from time to time before picking it up again. Readers sensitive to this material are forewarned.

The conclusion of this novel is mostly satisfying. I think some of the twists are a little hard to swallow. However, I was able to set aside my disbelief, especially since many of the characters are well on their way to finding some semblance of happiness by the end.

Overall, I think The Other Mrs. is a good book. I recommend it to readers who enjoy a slower paced suspense.

First, I strongly advise reading the first book in the series, The Nexus Mirror, before reading The Legend of Solis. Many of the characters and events are connected. I fear readers will be lost if they try to jump into the series at this point. It is definitely worth the time to go back and read the first book!

As with the first novel, Mr. Michael has chosen to tell the story from multiple viewpoints. Again, this works very well to show the story unfolding in different places from different characters’ viewpoints before bringing it all together at the end. All the transitions are clearly marked and never confusing.

This installment also introduces quite a few new characters. I still had the opportunity to catch up with characters from The Nexus Mirror, but I’ll admit I was hoping to see more of my favorites. I would have liked to spend more time following Yuran in particular. His story was quite compelling in the first book, and he became one of my favorite characters. While I did get to spend some time reading about Yuran in this book, his chapters had a bittersweet feeling to them this time around.

It is great to see the Enlai working together. They have spent so much time fighting each other in the past, but now is the time to put aside their differences. They will need to work together to face a threat greater than anything they’ve ever seen. I must warn readers sensitive to violence that this book does contain graphic violence, a lot of fighting, and large battle scenes. The fate of main characters never feels secure. I admit I teared up a time or two as I read!

I’m glad I had the opportunity to continue reading this series. The ending of this novel is very satisfying, but the story is far from over. There are still evil forces at work that have yet to reveal themselves. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

As a result, it was hard for me to relax and enjoy their relationship. Richard is determined to keep Noelle with him even though it is clear she is upset and has misconceptions about why he left her. Yet, Richard professes to be confused by Noelle’s behavior. I find this very hard to believe. I know the misunderstandings are meant to add tension and suspense to the plot, but I found them all rather unsettling.

Despite these issues, I am pleased to say that Richard and Noelle eventually find their way to a happy ending. After everything they have endured, I believe they will be a powerful couple and will be more open and honest with each other in the future.

However, her avoidance of magic didn’t solve her problem or help her deal with the trauma of her past. Consequently, Zel never learned much about magic or how truly powerful her own unique abilities are. When the magical community of Los Angeles fails to locate Sonny or who took him, Zel finds herself with an unlikely ally.

Henry is a man with a past as troubled as Zel’s. When Zel walks into Archetype Place looking for help, Henry finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. After a tragic loss, Henry closed himself off from everyone and everything. He goes through the motions of life without truly living. When I got a good look at the way Henry lived, it broke my heart. When Henry meets Zel, he finds himself caring about another person for the first time in decades. Unfortunately, neither of them are in an ideal position to embark on a romance. Still, I saw an undeniable spark of attraction between them. As I read, I kept my fingers crossed in hopes they would find their way to a happy ending.

As Zel and Henry investigate Sonny’s disappearance, I enjoyed watching Zel gain confidence in her abilities. Henry offers guidance and advice in magical matters but really allows Zel to flex her magical muscles as well. They make a great team. I will say the conclusion of the mystery felt a bit abrupt. So much happens to Henry and Zel in such a short amount of time, and there was a lot of build up before Henry and Zel really got moving on their investigation. It seemed as if they’d barely started when suddenly it was all over! Despite this issue, the conclusion made sense and was satisfying.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read Hidden Charm. Henry and Zel’s story is compelling and the mystery of Sonny’s disappearance is intriguing. I recommend Hidden Charm to anyone who enjoys fairytales with a twist.

However, I was able to set aside my doubts and put his acceptance of modern living down to the fact that he has an inventor’s soul. Watching him learn about modern conveniences was a lot of fun!

The passages describing the storm on the ship were excellent. “The force of the wind and the rain made it hard to breathe… Lightning ripped apart the clouds overhead. I must admit their relationship gets serious a bit too fast for my taste. Even Dylan and Scarlett admit they care about each other more than they should at such an early stage in their relationship and aren’t sure why. Is it simply fate, the connection to the past, or something else? Whatever the reason, Dylan and Scarlett have good chemistry and are a good couple.

What really kept me turning pages was the mystery of the past! I desperately wanted to know the true story of Dylan Roth (Dylan’s ancestor with the same name) and Jules and Marianne Mercier. I loved how Ms. Sweeney gradually revealed bits and pieces of the unnerving tale through old journal entries. The paranormal happenings at the Mercier house were spooky and gave me chills as I read!

I truly enjoyed reading Bound by Love. I recommend this romance to anyone who enjoys a good suspense with a dash of paranormal.

I loved watching her interact with the people in her small town. She manages to touch the hearts of everyone she meets. Her home and garden, though a bit neglected, sound as warm and inviting as Keighley. It is a place I would love to visit. However, Keighley’s life isn’t perfect. Caring for her grandfather is becoming more difficult, and she has practically put her life on hold. Everything changed the day Connor knocked on her door.

Connor is a good man, but he is in immense pain. His past is marred by a tragedy he has never truly moved beyond. Keighley is a soothing balm for Connor’s soul. She knows he has a painful past, and while she gently encourages him to talk about it, she doesn’t push too hard. Connor is supposed to be interviewing Keighley for a magazine article, but it soon becomes clear that their interviews are more like dates. I liked watching them get to know each other. Their first meeting is particularly entertaining! Their blossoming romance is sweet, but I must admit the passages where they gazed at and admired each other were a bit overdone, and I feel the pacing suffered as a result. Also, I couldn’t quite relax and enjoy their relationship as much as I would have liked because I knew Connor wasn’t being completely honest. While this added tension to the story, I knew the deceit would come to light eventually, and I dreaded Keighley’s reaction. I won’t spoil the story with details, but I will say that Keighley’s reaction to the truth was as expected, but also managed to be a bit surprising. Readers can be assured of a wonderful, happy ending.

I enjoyed reading The Fortune Teller’s Garden. Readers looking for a moving tale of love, loss, and healing should definitely give this contemporary romance a try.

All I Want

Prudence and Stephen are such a fun couple to watch! Their tale is the perfect start to this collection. Prudence has so many outlandish schemes and plots to try and stop her father from gambling, and they all go hilariously wrong. While Prudence has good intentions, chaos always seems to follow her. I never knew what she was going to try next. Prudence certainly keeps Stephen on his toes, and I found myself laughing throughout their story.

Despite how much fun it is to watch Prudence and Stephen, her family’s situation is very serious. Ms. Sands perfectly balanced Prudence’s amusing antics with the precarious financial situation of Prudence’s family. My heart broke for her when she finally gave up hope just as she and Stephen realized they were falling in love. I will say the solution to Prudence’s problem was a bit predictable, but was very sweet.

Three French Hens

Brinna and Royce’s story was unusual. When Lady Joan and her best friend Sabrina practically force Brinna to impersonate her, I had serious doubts about Brinna’s ability to learn to successfully impersonate a noble woman. This implausible plot was made a bit more believable by the fact that barely anyone at the party truly knew Lady Joan. Sabrina is especially irritating in her efforts to keep people as far away from Brinna as possible while she is acting as Lady Joan.

Royce is very persistent and makes every effort to get to know Brinna, thinking she is Joan. Brinna and Royce have great chemistry, and I enjoyed watching them fall in love. I really had no idea how the story would end, and I must say that the conclusion was interesting if a bit abrupt. Brinna’s happy ending is well deserved.

The Fairy Godmother

Odel and Michel’s story is my favorite in this anthology. I felt so sorry for Odel. While her father was living, her life had no joy. His passing allowed her to breath and live life on her own terms. Unfortunately, her fairy godmother, Matilda, seems to have other ideas. Matilda seems to think Odel needs a husband. Despite Odel’s protests, Matilda presents Odel with a multitude of suitors, and all of them are completely ridiculous.

Michel is a breath of fresh air. Of all the couples in this anthology, Odel and Michel’s relationship felt the most natural. While they found each other attractive, they didn’t fall in love at first sight. Instead, they grew on each other. I loved watching them spend time together talking and playing chess. With Michel’s help, Odel gradually came out of her shell. Their happy ending is extremely satisfying.

I highly recommend My Favorite Things to fans of historical romance. It is a heartwarming collection of stories sure to get readers in the Christmas spirit!

However, Lancelot is also brave, courageous, and always willing to rescue a damsel in distress. Unfortunately, being the greatest knight in Camelot comes with some serious drawbacks. Lancelot becomes disillusioned with being a knight and walks away from King Arthur and Camelot. However, about a year after Lancelot leaves, King Arthur finds himself in desperate need of his greatest knight. I’m pleased to say Lancelot is more than up to the challenge. In this moment, Lancelot realizes what it truly means to be a knight.

The Adventures of Sir Lancelot the Great is such an entertaining tale! Mr. Morris brings out themes of loyalty, chivalry, and helping others in a fun and easy way for children to understand. The book is filled with clean, goofy humor sure to bring on the giggles, but the humor is never overdone. I particularly enjoyed reading Lancelot’s encounter with a “recreant” knight named Sir Phelot. This story is perfect for reading aloud to younger children, and the short, fast paced chapters make it a good stepping stone toward longer chapter books for readers. The illustrations add to the fun as well. Mr. Morris does take some liberties with Lancelot’s story. For example, Lancelot’s affair with Guinevere is not mentioned. While this might upset some, I was not bothered. In fact, I feel this omission serves to make the tale more accessible to a younger audience.

I had so much fun reading The Adventures of Sir Lancelot the Great! I highly recommend this adventure to young fans of Arthur and his knights.
