After a breathtaking journey through Iceland, Vanessa Evanston finishes her dream vacation with her two best friends in the capital city of Reykjavik—and wakes up the next morning on the ground, on a tiny island 250 kilometers north, with no memory of how she got there.

Luckily, handsome and kind-hearted local Gunnar Heimirsson stumbles upon her—unluckily, he can’t explain her mysterious journey either. Nor can anyone explain why Vanessa soon discovers “last night” actually happened a year ago, and everyone thinks she’s dead.

Iceland is known for its folklore, but beyond the elves and mountain trolls, there are other creatures: beautiful, powerful, and vengeful, known as the huldufólk. Gunnar has been alive for a century, trapped by their curse after angering them. From the far flung Westfjords to the black sands of Reynisfjara, the answer to Vanessa’s missing year might be connected to Gunnar’s punishment—as well as his long-lost wife, Hera—but the truth lies somewhere in the realm of magic, myth, and love, and Vanessa has only just discovered fairytales are real.

On holiday In Reykjavik Vanessa goes out for a night with the girls, then wakes the next morning on an island in the middle of nowhere. She has no idea what happened after she left the bar the previous night, nor how she got to this place. Two local men find her and take her to their home. Things go from bad to worse when she finds it has not been a night but a year since her night in Reykjavik. Vanessa feels she is losing her mind when she discovers one of her hosts is about 125 years old. They reason the invisible Huldufólk are responsible for all their problems. Now Vanessa has to work out how to get home to America and rejoin her family and friends.

This book is very well written and captivated me when I began to read it. First it seemed to be a mystery of who had taken Vanessa and brought her to this island, but as the story unfolded it turned out there was much more to the story than I first thought. Gunnar is reserved but a spark of interest is there between them. His story of how he has lived so long seems to be a side story to set the scene, but again there are hidden depths to this. Despite her situation I liked the way Vanessa took charge of her own destiny and convinced Gunnar and his friend to help her.

I’m not going to spoil this for future readers, but the ending is totally unexpected and has a Wow factor. Definitely worth a 5 star rating.

Between them the three sisters help the child overcome the trauma of her mother’s death, but when friendship turns to love will Jackson accept Bree’s magical talents?

I found this book to be a really nice contemporary romance with a hint of magic. The magic slipped into the story quite naturally, no startling spells to take you out of the flow, only a natural progression to help the story along. The father and child were exactly what would be expected of a pair who had suffered a recent trauma. The father worrying about his daughter, the daughter falling in on herself.

Everything about this book came across as loving, caring and gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. Good book for an afternoon read in front of the fire.

The price of survival is blood. The price of freedom is life. All things will eventually meet their end…….including humanity.

After generations of advancement, the human race thought they were invincible. That was until the revenant made their presence known. In order to survive, humans had to pay a price.

The cost……their blood. The source of life for all living things.

Persephone Black (Phoebe) was an orphan. She and her Pappy made a living on the outskirts of the revenant city where the poor and desolate were numerous. Phoebe had kept her head low and remained unnoticed for her entire life. She was content working as a junior gardner at the nursery as long as it meant her and Pappy’s continued survival within the city walls.

As fate would have it, Phoebe wouldn’t be able to go unnoticed for much longer. She caught the attention of Cassius, a revenant, and was summoned by him to the tower.

Phoebe would learn more about the revenant than most other humans. Cast into a world that she was not yet ready for, Phoebe would do anything to survive.

But she would soon learn that sometimes the cost of survival is more than a person could bear.

After the revenant war, the humans were divided into two sections, those well to do who had places in the Consulate, and those who worked hard for a mere pittance and gave blood once a month to the revenants, or vampires, to give them their common name. Failure to work meant exile from the city to the wilds where the people were like animals.

Phoebe works in a garden nursery and looks after her adopted father Pappy until one day her world turns upside down.

At times this story grabbed my interest but at others it became very bland. I also found it a bit difficult to follow at times, especially when the revenant gave her a feeling of security and comfort. Why would she trust him so quickly? The story also seemed to gallop along in places, moving her rapidly from place to place with no real time to get interested in what was happening to Phoebe.

The concept of the book was intriguing and with a bit more effective development could become a very good story. Make it a bit deeper and longer and the author would have an excellent novel.

She gets lost along the way and causes a car accident which does not bode well for the next chapter in her life. However, the reconnection with her great aunt provides her with direction and purpose. While solving a mysterious family secret, she is pursued by a charming lawyer and her exasperating neighbor who thinks arguing is a form of foreplay. But those circumstances are the least of her problems. Cory discovers she is a witch and must learn to control her new-found powers. An ally, a confidant, and a surprise supporter guide her, but she is almost out of time. An immortal evil wants her powers and will stop at nothing to obtain them. When the battle lines are drawn, Cory must choose who is friend or enemy. Will love save her or endanger her even more?

Cory was about to begin a new life. She’d lost her job, her husband and her home. Luckily Aunt Addy had invited her to stay which meant time to sort out her life and decide what to do with herself. Romance was not part of the future as far as she was concerned.

Even before she got to her aunt’s house she found herself at the mercy of a man when her car swerved off the road in the middle of nowhere. Luck had been with her as the man turned out to be her aunt’s neighbour, but when she got to her aunt’s another man entered her life. Her aunt’s lawyer. Both men were gorgeous but the neighbour seemed more sincere, even if he was downright annoying. It also didn’t help that Cory finds magic creeping into her life when she least expects it.

I enjoyed this book. Cory’s inner thoughts were good. She argued with herself and told herself off, just like most people do when they’re thinking things through. The men came across as real, colourful characters and I knew to distrust Sebastian – the lawyer– right from the beginning. There was something not quite right about him. Finn on the other hand is tall, dark and wow! Unfortunately too much wow usually means trouble.

Good book, well written and captivating with a hint of mystery and thriller.

Can they get to the root of the problem and eradicate it before even more damage is done to an innocent people?

This book is aptly titled Corruption. The people of Harmonia have found their white, sterile world is at the expense of Loretania who get all the nasty stuff that Harmonia syphons out of their country. Scientists from Harmonia travel to Loretania to help get rid of the disease and make their ecology grow and sustain the population. Good intentions are all very well, but human greed interferes.

I like that it’s the teenagers who follow up on this intention when their queries are met by silence. The corruption of the older generation shows that no matter how much people want to help those less fortunate than themselves, there are others who are only interested in themselves.

The story does allude to rape, the act is mentioned but no actual rape scene is described. This is a young adult book as the main characters are teenagers and the story is their story. Good book, interesting reading.

With the help of his friend who is a techno demon, Roach manages to mix up the lives of several people and brings chaos to the lying husband and the prudish woman. The frightened wife is the only one who benefits from the demon’s actions although this is not the Roach’s intention.

At first I thought this was going to be a bit boring but as I read on I found it quite amusing. The downtrodden wife surprises everyone with her actions and although at first Roach seems to have the upper hand, the unexpected results of his actions make the story funny with satisfying results.

An unusual story, with only a hint of romance, but well put together. All the characters are believable and at times I found myself cheering them on, or hoping they would fail. Roach’s actions I found funny mainly because the ordinary humans around him weren’t aware of what was going on. Nice read.

In Elizabethan Scotland the Mac Griogair clan is forbidden to use their clan name or they will be executed. Members of the clan go far and wide, changing their names to avoid detection. When the ban was lifted in 1774 the main hub of the clan set out to bring the travellers back into the fold, but a lot of them didn’t want to come. The word went out, return or be annihilated.

The Cowen family own the local diner and she is attracted to one of the brothers, but there is something strange about the whole family. In her dreams she sees a large wolf and believes this has something to do with her brother’s disappearance.

This is a very good tale of deception, mystery and paranormal. A bit weak in the part where Eva won’t tell Mason what is wrong, I know she’s strong willed but she has an inkling of Mason’s true identity and this should ensure that he will believe her and help her.

Other than the above, the story holds together very well. Every detail was visible to me as I read it, especially the food aspect and the Cowen’s house and land. Good read and very enjoyable story.

I really liked the way the author got inside both Mia and Ryder’s heads to show how they reacted to the most horrible thing a girl can go through. The whole story seemed so real and the characters were three dimensional and appeared to be very caring of each other.

This book is brilliant. If I had a teenage daughter I would insist she read it. It’s a story which shows how a teenager can be brave in the face of adversity. Totally deserves a 5 star rating.

This book sounded interesting which is why I wanted to read it. The characters, the settings and even the grown ups promised a good story, but when I started reading I found it a little flat. There didn’t seem to be much excitement or suspense, and even the evil trolls didn’t appear to be three dimensional.

Maybe a rewrite would bring it to life as I really think the idea has great potential. Everything needed is in the story – a boy, a dog, a ghost, fairies, trolls and an evil god. The author even took care to make sure the boy didn’t just wander off without an adult keeping an eye on what he was doing. Good start and good idea.
