Time, and most of Portugal, has almost forgotten Luminosa, a small fishing community on the Alentejo coast. A cluster of white and blue cottages huddle under the cliffs overshadowed by the great manor of Herdade Albatroz whose family has ruled the village since the days of Napoleon. Far off the tourist route, nobody visits Luminosa by chance.
To treat erectile dysfunction buying levitra online many medications have been proven to be successful in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. When a ruthless American racketeer turns up, the peaceful village’s way of life could be ruined forever. But will other visitors–Piper Pines, seeking news of her long dead Portuguese mother, and Leo Shine, bereft of a father and brother accused of terrible crimes–help or hinder his objective to drag Luminosa into the twenty-first century?

Leo and Piper are two special people. One lives in Alaska, the other in Norfolk, England. Leo had been born with a cowl covering his body and he attributed this to his ability to sense storms at sea. Piper could see colours in the sea which defined what lurked beneath the waves, good or evil, food or danger.

Curiosity concerning their missing mothers draw them to a small village of Luminosa in Portugal. Leo is mistaken for an investor in a building proposal but Piper has suspicions he is not as he seems.

Leo and Piper are strong characters and their suspicions of one another can be amusing. Their abilities help the people of Luminosa in their quest to stop the ruination of their village. I felt empathy with all the characters (except for the baddies) and found it a warm and intriguing book which I enjoyed reading. It had highs and lows which kept me engaged with the story and mystery which meant my curiosity as to the outcome was kept alive at all times.

Although only a sweet romance, the tension between Leo and Piper was definitely the main draw of the story and I eagerly continued reading to see what the outcome would be. I would definitely read another book by this author.

All the characters have their own special personalities and abilities and despite the fact it’s a fantasy, they seem so real!

Rutger falls in love with Swanhild, a stranger he finds in the nearby forest. Swanhild teaches him magic and they set out to protect the world from the dragons and dragon helpers.

This is a well written story which draws an image of dragons controlling the world with only small pockets of human rebels who try to survive without technology or dragon magic. Defense weapons are crossbows and swords which are useless against the scale protected dragons. The hint of what the future holds for Rutger and Swanhild is shrouded in mystery, enough to make me read on to find out whether my thoughts were right, or the author had developed a clever plot twist.

Everyday events such as earning money for food and lodging came across as interesting and believable and helped the story forward. Sometimes a plot can forget that the characters have to do normal things to survive and this can spoil the flow of the story. This is not one of those books. Everything flows along very nicely.

Wind provided me with shiver down the spine moments, soft romantic scenes, smiles as other characters were duped by Rutger and Swanhild and all the time there was the question, will they or won’t they? All in all a good read especially as I love dragons.

Renovations in a Savannah building expose a skeleton that had been buried and forgotten about for over a hundred years. It is immediately apparent that the person’s death was the result of foul play.

When the bones are removed and the mumbo-jumbo dark magic spell is broken, The Ghost of The Savannah Strangler rises up from the dead determined to squeeze the life out of the living with his creepy cold dead man’s fingers.

He’s back from the dead causing hilarious mischief and mayhem as he evades justice, wrecks havoc, and has the best time of his deceased life.

Dead Man’s Fingers — the title sends shivers down the back and the content lives up to the name.

In Savannah, Georgia the Haints – or ghosts – are everywhere but they are thick on the ground (or under or above it) at the full moon.

When a fix-it man uncovers human bones in a store basement he unwittingly disturbs the resting place of the Savannah Strangler. The tenant on the top floor of the building decides to get rid of the ghost in the basement but she gets more than she bargained for when instead of banishing the haint, the fake medium releases him into the community.

The author takes us with the Strangler through the streets of Savannah where he eventually finds a body to inhabit. I believe the author meant this to be comical, and I found it very funny when the Strangler tried to come to terms with the modern way of living and dressing. His description as a big bald-headed dude who looked like he ate light bulbs for breakfast, covered in pink sequins, gold glitter, and aquamarine puff balls, and smelling really, really bad, follows him through the book and it made me smile each time I read it.

The scenes in the book came to life with each word I read and the characters from the student on the top floor and her friends, the policeman, the tourists and the Savannah Strangler were all easily pictured especially the cold dead fingers trying to strangle Victorian prostitutes, which of course no longer existed.

The hilarity continues right to the end of the book. Certainly a good read as far as I’m concerned, and very entertaining.

Teaming up with former gang concubine Sarah, they journey to the Tower of Elysius to end the world. But nothing is ever as simple as it seems, and some angels have plans of their own…

Definitely a different look at Christian religion, but I liked it. God rests on the Sabbath, but his Sabbath lasts a million years. Meanwhile Earth has gone to the dogs.

A decision must be made regarding the future of humans. Does man deserve another chance or should the slate be wiped clean to make way for a different species?

Martin, an asexual with an unhappy past, spends his days avoiding the gangs who would make a sex slave of him. Eventually he decides to commit suicide and goes to Spire Rock to throw himself off the cliff. Instead he meets the angel Anael and they become friends. He agrees to help Anael make the decision regarding man’s future.

Anael is exactly what I would expect an angel to be. Full of compassion, but aware of man’s frailty when it comes to life. Martin is the product of hurt and humiliation and the author made me sympathise and empathise with both angel and human. They are joined by an escaped slave, Sarah, who has a secret of her own.

The final decision on man’s future will be made by the Archangel Gabriel and the three journey forth to Spire Rock to advise him of what they have discovered. This book led me onward, wanting to find out what happened but the last few pages held a bombshell of shock. A good read despite the fact I’m not particularly religious.

Both Mickey and Amanda have trauma in their recent past. When the son of Amanda’s business partner is saved by Mickey he agrees to come to their restaurant for a “thank you” meal and the attraction between them is instant.

I found the interaction between Mickey and Amanda so believable I could see them in the various situations. Mickey, so uncertain of himself that he wouldn’t cross the line and tell Amanda his real feelings and why he was afraid to take the next step. Amanda, thinking Mickey hadn’t found her as attractive as she’d found him. Usual non-communication but done in a way that I could see and believe the thoughts going through their heads.

When at last Mickey gets ready to address his feelings he gets it wrong again. Poor innocent male!

Loved this book. Short but full of emotions and confusion. It brings in the anguish of the past to be smoothed by the romance of the here and now. I found it very enjoyable to read. A book that stands on its own without being rushed or shortened to make it fit.

Greed is the main theme of this novel with violence and confusion to help it along its way.

From the first it is obvious the wife has married for money and to get everything she plans a murder. I read on eager to see if she succeeded in her aim, or her tricks were discovered before she could kill her husband.

Tammy, Stephen and Maria, Stephen’s ten year-old daughter, travel to a remote cabin in snow covered mountains where the husband disappears leaving Tammy to pretend she’s frantic with worry. She also has to convince Maria her only worry is Stephen has become lost in the snowstorm. Strange happenings convince her that Stephen is still alive and trying to frighten her, while Maria tries to discover where her father is.

The concept of this story is excellent, and intriguing for suspense and mystery buffs. Unfortunately my eagerness to read the book faded as the story jolted from one point of view to another creating confusion and interrupting the flow to a point where II therefore found it difficult to get involved in the storyline.

Gore, suspense and mystery are all present in this book, and with a polish it would be a very good book.

The island so entices her that she decides to stay, forsaking her family and obligations in Toronto. Her new life on the lush green island is peopled with interesting characters: a hippy scientist, a dashing Southern gentleman, a slimy boss, and an undocumented Mexican hotel maid with a sad history. As Lydia makes one questionable choice after another, she soon begins to understand why she so easily succumbed to Hyde Island’s lure.

How many of us have gone on holiday, either alone or with friends or family, and been reluctant to return home? I know I’ve been in this situation and there can be many reasons. Not wanting to return to humdrum life, not happy at home, or simply wanting a breathing space from everyday life.

As the title tells us, this book is about a breathing space for Lydia.

Hyde Island has provided her with a glorious place to paint and get away from family and obligations in Toronto, but when it comes time to return, she refuses to go back. This woman is clever and resourceful and finds herself a job and a place to stay while she tries to decide where her future will lead her. Freedom is the feeling she experiences on the island, but she knows it can’t last forever.

Lydia’s story pulled me gently into a soft relaxing time, with a little jolt every now and again to make me aware I had to think of the future too. All the way through the book I tried to guess if she would return to her life, start a completely new one or compromise. I got it wrong, but I’m not going to put in a spoiler. I definitely enjoyed this book and would be happy to read it again, or read another of Ms May’s stories.

One last thing I must say is I loved the cover. It encompassed exactly what the book was about and drew my attention in before the opening words.

Cecilia is considered a dreamer and spends most of her time wandering the countryside with her paints and sketchbook. Her mother has plans for her to marry the younger son of the local nobility, and her daughter obediently tries to attract the man’s attention.

The beginning of the seemed a bit slow and dry, but after the first few pages I got hooked. Cecilia blossomed into a woman who knew her own mind, but didn’t want to disappoint her mama. William wrestled with his love for Cecilia and his desire to do missionary work. His longing to be a missionary did not include a wife.

I felt as if both the main characters were my friends and I longed to be able to help them, especially when the nasty younger son had designs on Cecilia which didn’t include marriage. The setting was outside the debutante area of London and this made it more interesting for me as it provided a new aspect to the era. Charlotte Brentwood has provided a unique vision into small village life when the nobility ruled everything.
