Nicole trusted Wyatt with her heart once. She won’t make the same mistake twice.

A broken-down car destroys Nicole DeMonde’s plan to be cool and self-sufficient when she returns to her hometown for her brother’s wedding. The cop who comes to her rescue is none other than local hottie Wyatt Truman, who slept with her then dumped her when they were teens. She has no choice but to accept his help. However, she knows better than to trust him with her heart twice.

Wyatt is determined to earn Nicole’s forgiveness and make amends for his callous past. Once he lays eyes on her, he can’t help wanting more than forgiveness. In fact, his intentions are starting to bear a suspicious resemblance to the forever variety.

If she can’t avoid Wyatt, a one-night stand might be just the thing Nicole needs to work him out of her system. Or will her recovery plan destroy her heart once and for all?

Memories of the past plague businesswoman Nicole DeMonde when she returns to Regret Hollow for her brother’s wedding. On her way to her accommodation she decides to drive past the house of the drunken ex con who is her father. Her rental car then expires almost outside the house.

Nicole’s intention to walk is thwarted by the arrival of Wyatt Truman, the man who’d been her colossal high school mistake. Thrown together by the wedding of their siblings, the two try to overcome the past so they can move on into the future.

I found the heroine of this story to be a provocative comical person. She intended to make Wyatt pay for the mistakes of the past, but also intended to have some fun at the same time. Wyatt on the other hand comes across as a gorgeous man but with feelings of regret. All the characters interact with each other in a way that made me feel I was there with them and had become part of their lives.

The book is lighthearted, but with a few dark passages when referring to the past. For instance Nicole’s father and Wyatt both want to make amends but Nicole resists, reluctant to put herself in a position to be hurt again. The story flows nicely and is easy to follow. A good read for a cozy afternoon by the fireside.

In the following months, a small part of Sally’s consciousness begins to return, allowing her to listen in on the world around her – although she has no way to communicate.

But Sally was never going to let a little thing like a coma get in the way of her happily ever after …

On the way to their honeymoon Sally and Peter argue and are involved in an accident. Peter recovers but Sally remains in a coma. A year later Peter is visiting the still comatose Sally in the hospice when he meets Grace who gets him involved in fundraising for the hospice. They feel an instant attraction to each other but both are aware of the unconscious woman who remains between them. A massive storm releases Sally’s spirit from her body, but only Grace can see her. Despite the conflict in Grace’s mind, the two become friends and the living becomes the go between for spirit and her husband.

The idea behind this story is unique. A ghost story without a true ghost. At times it becomes slightly light-hearted, although not especially funny. The inner workings of the minds of Peter, Sally and Grace show the anguish, jealousy, anger and restraint with remarkable clarity. Peter wants to become closer to Grace, but reminds himself he is married, even if his wife might never recover. Grace feels guilt at the possibility of becoming the “other woman”. Sally… well, the woman/spirit is unique. Determined not to lose her husband she puts all obstacles in the way.

The story has just the right amount of conflict, love and remorse and these all come together to make a wonderful read. A bit slow to start, but I am so glad I persevered as the tale opened like a flower’s petals revealing a richness of characters and plot which are seldom found in a contemporary romance.

Neil Blakely has been commissioned to save Christiana and return her to her brother in America but he cannot understand the lady’s unwillingness to be rescued.

Due to the way she has been treated by men, the lady does not go willingly and the trip to America is fraught with tension and mistrust. Chased by a man who believes Christiana is his, ordered not to start a war with France, and a sister who has her own thoughts on the way Neil should behave and you have a book full of….well, full of a bit of everything.

I really enjoyed this book. At first it seemed the story would be serious due to the beginning where Christiana’s husband loses his head, but once the two main characters meet, the conflict between them is intense but at times quite humorous. When Neil’s sister is added to the mix the levity increases. The book is not exactly lighthearted but definitely entrancing. It has serious moments, lots of tension in the right places and humor in other places. A good read and well written with strong characters.

Max, another agent, rescues her and they go on the run. Their aim is to warn the government of the West.

There is quite a serious aspect to this book with only a few lighthearted moments. The pair meet many different groups of people, people they didn’t know existed, and on the way a mother gives them her baby, then promptly commits suicide. The two have now become three – well, two and a half – but they continue their journey.

Max sounds like a hunk of a man while at first Taylor is a wimp, but she soon comes out of her shell and the two work well together. The concept of the country is a little confusing at first but basically it’s science in the North with normal in the South. Taylor and Max have no idea what the rest of the country or the world is like.

A reasonably good read but this is not a “can’t put down book”. I found I had to take a breather for a few days, then get back into it again as I needed to assimilate what I’d read before I carried on to the next part.

Set in the mining country of Michigan, this is the tale of the descendants of Cornish miners. In particular Maggie Elizabeth Harrington.

Maggie is caught between two loves. Jeremy who has always been there for her; and Tommie her childhood sweetheart who got sent away when they tried to save some wolf cubs. Maggie has always loved Tommie but is her love for him stronger than what she feels for Jeremy?

The setting in Michigan, a place I have never been to, came across as beautiful and mysterious and the Central Mine area just the sort of place to live a peaceful, quiet life.

However, I have to admit I found this book slightly confusing. To begin with the blurb is completely different to the actual story and this made me wonder why it was there at all. Being written in the first person meant it was all in Maggie’s point of view, which ended up being a bit dull. When the mine collapsed trapping those she loved, Maggie seemed to come alive. More of this type of emotion would have enlivened the story.

Wolves brought Maggie and Tommie together when they were younger. Jeremy also brings a wolf into her life when he gives her a wolf hybrid and this gift seals Maggie’s love for the tall miner. With no female kin in her life, and a father who seldom speaks, Maggie tends to rely on Mrs Daume, the village schoolteacher to give her advice.

On the whole this is a reasonably sweet romance story, although I could have done with a bit more excitement from Maggie, although I suppose her character is fitting for the location and the time period of the story.

With a honeymoon spent weathering a storm of scandal, can these two strangers hope to turn their convenient marriage into something real?

The Scandalous Summerfields— Disgrace is their middle name!

Temptation. The results of giving into temptation can be disastrous, especially in Regency England.

Edmund Summerfield rescues a young lady from the hands of a ruffian on the streets of Brussels only to find she is his sister Tess’ sister-in-law. Amelie Glenville has been abandoned by her fiancé when she offers to comfort him before he goes off to fight Napoleon. Edmund escorts her back to the hotel where both of them willingly submit to the temptation of each other’s bodies.

They both assume the one night of passion was the one and only time they would be together, but fate has other plans for them. They must fight through the troubles of angry families, a move to the country and the doubts and insecurities they have for each other.

This Regency novel is quite refreshing. Amelie has quite modern ideas, although she tries to follow the restrictions of the period. Edmund hides his love, aware Amelie cannot possibly marry a man like him, born out of wedlock.

The story skillfully brings visions of the past into the present, side stories supporting the main plot, but still strong stories in themselves. A well turned book with strong characters and supporting characters who behave in censorious way I assume aristocracy would have in the Regency era. A very entertaining novel.

One question remains—how will he ever survive an eternity of darkness alone?

Darkness Rising is part 0.5 of the Chateau Seductions series by USA Today Bestselling author Lisa Carlisle. Readers have requested more on the dark and mysterious Antoine. In this short story, Antoine tells his tale, which continues in the series with Dark Velvet. Dark Velvet is written from Savannah’s perspective as a newcomer to an art colony who is intrigued by the proprietor.

Darkness Rising is the prequel to the Chateau Seduction Series and I have to confess I read the other three first, which is the wrong order. This book introduces Antoine and tells how he changed from one paranormal creature to another and how he dealt with his unhappiness.

Antoine passes through the years like a spirit and doesn’t interact with anyone. His loneliness drags him down for many decades until he buys the castle on the DeRoche Island and sets up his art colony. He employs Cameron, the only person to know his secret, to run the art retreat for him so he can concentrate on his own sculpting.

The other books in the series are erotica, but this one is not. It fills in the background to the series, explaining the beginnings of both Antoine and his art retreat. Worth reading especially if the reader intends to delve into the rest of the series.

This book is the third in this series and once again Lisa Carlisle has shown how so much can be put into so few pages. The characters from the previous book appear but the story revolves around Cameron and Nadya. Emotions, confusion, hot sexy scenes are all included and it was nice to have Nadya as the shifter rather than another male paranormal.

Another good book in this series. Could there possibly be more, maybe Kelly’s story? I hope so as she makes an appearance in the other books.

A wonderful continuation of the Chateau Seduction Series. Involves the previous characters, but definitely a stand alone book as well. I love the new (to me) aspect of the paranormal.
