One of the things I liked the most about this novella was how sensible the main characters were when faced with something frighting they that couldn’t begin to understand. There is a lot that goes on in this book. You have Dakota’s ex-boss, new jobs, missing brothers, family life/tension, and not forgetting a custody battle. It is a fast-paced story with insta-lust/love between our two main characters. There is little to no angst between the two of them. All the angst is caused by circumstances going on around them, rather than them themselves.

I have enjoyed every book I’ve ever read by Morticia Knight but this one is not one I would read again. Part of the problem for me is that it is the next in the series after a brilliant read. Searching for Shelter was the best book in the series and then Strip Search followed it and it just didn’t hit the same buttons. Although I am a fan of epilogues this one felt like it was a way to give the reader answers without having to go into too much detail. Just accept and it’s done.

This is still a great series and I loved reading about how other characters were getting on in their lives. I enjoyed Reed and Dakota’s story but just not as much. I still have no hesitation in recommending it though!

First, I strongly advise reading the first book in the series, The Nexus Mirror, before reading The Legend of Solis. Many of the characters and events are connected. I fear readers will be lost if they try to jump into the series at this point. It is definitely worth the time to go back and read the first book!

As with the first novel, Mr. Michael has chosen to tell the story from multiple viewpoints. Again, this works very well to show the story unfolding in different places from different characters’ viewpoints before bringing it all together at the end. All the transitions are clearly marked and never confusing.

This installment also introduces quite a few new characters. I still had the opportunity to catch up with characters from The Nexus Mirror, but I’ll admit I was hoping to see more of my favorites. I would have liked to spend more time following Yuran in particular. His story was quite compelling in the first book, and he became one of my favorite characters. While I did get to spend some time reading about Yuran in this book, his chapters had a bittersweet feeling to them this time around.

It is great to see the Enlai working together. They have spent so much time fighting each other in the past, but now is the time to put aside their differences. They will need to work together to face a threat greater than anything they’ve ever seen. I must warn readers sensitive to violence that this book does contain graphic violence, a lot of fighting, and large battle scenes. The fate of main characters never feels secure. I admit I teared up a time or two as I read!

I’m glad I had the opportunity to continue reading this series. The ending of this novel is very satisfying, but the story is far from over. There are still evil forces at work that have yet to reveal themselves. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The romantic plot is easy reading but there is another minor plot that comes up which has bits of mystery and suspense. What kept me going was Keely and Evan. Keely is an independent no nonsense “it’s my way or no way” kind of gal. She’s certainly not submissive. Evan is a businessman, a Tech Geek, a Scotsman and a billionaire. He’s strong and very persistent. There is a conflict about an age difference between both of them and Keely is unwilling to take a chance due to that. Fortunately, Evan is determined to work through her resistance.

I loved reading Keely and Evan’s conversations more than anything in this. Insatiable in a Kilt is an all-rounder – a very well written and wonderfully descriptive romance.

I didn’t realize Marcia Clark, yep, that Marcia Clark had written so many novels. I remember her as the prosecutor in the case of the century. So I had to pick this book up. I’m glad I did. The writing flows well and kept me interested throughout. I hadn’t read the others in this series, but Sam Brinkman is an intense character. The ending satisfied and I’m interested in reading the other books in this series.

Sam is a crack legal mind. She knows her stuff and is tenacious. Her boyfriend is in trouble, his mother’s been scammed and the world sure looks bleak–all seemingly because Sam took a vacation. Crazy, huh?

There are a couple of plot points throughout this story and the author does a good job of weaving them together. It seemed a bit odd and almost too easy when some of the pieces seemed to fall into Sam’s lap. She also has a tendency to skew the lines when it comes to staying totally legal. That said, it showed her tenacity. The author also manages to blur the lines, too. Things aren’t black and white in life and neither are they in this book. I rather liked that the author kept the plot human in that respect.

If you’re looking for something in the vein of John Grisham or Scott Turow, this might not be what you’re wanting, but if you’re willing to take this book on it’s own merits–and I highly suggest you do–then you won’t be disappointed. A gripping read. Recommended.

She is haunted by what happened. Enter Zach, whom Ginny asked to teach her friend self-defense to help regain her self confidence. When he first meets her there is an instant attraction he feels for her. Being a shapeshifter, they feel that there was only one person for them. When he meets her he knows that she is the one for him. He makes sure that he does his best to teach her self-defense. I enjoyed the way he was tender and careful until he earns her trust. He seduces her with soft kisses and touches, never pushing her for more. Their lovemaking was hot and tender, and Zach made sure that she had the opportunity to say no at any time. This shows the bond that grew between them. Some parts of the story happened a bit fast for me, but might be fine for other readers. The author did a great job in showing people how strong they can be after a tragedy.

This is a great read.

The world building was fantastic. Ms. Kuchinskas thought of everything from what people ate, to why they avoided going outdoors during daylight hours as much as possible, to how everyone stayed as healthy as possible in this future version of Earth that had experienced multiple deadly pandemics over the years. I was fascinated by how many parts of the average person’s schedule was different from life in our era. The only thing better than this was looking for the ways in which life was surprisingly similar as well.

Just like I mentioned in my review of the first installment in this series, I would have liked to see more character development. Finder was an incredibly interesting guy who lived in a society filled with medical and technological advancements that people in the early twenty-first century can only dream of. There was a lot of room here to show how he grew and changed as a result of the wondrous and terrible things he experienced. If there had been more evidence of him responding to his environment in this way, I would have gone for the full five-star rating without a doubt.

The plot twists were well written, especially when it came to the mystery subplot. While this work was firmly rooted in the science fiction genre, it did a good job of incorporating some of the things I’d expect to see happen in a mystery novel as well. Figuring out what might happen next and comparing my predictions to what actually occurred was a great deal of fun.

I’d recommend reading Chimera Catalyst before diving into book two of this series. Singularity Syndrome should be read by anyone who wonders what the future could hold for the human race.

I’m a sucker for John Grisham’s books. I admit it. I ask for his books for my birthday, for Christmas…snag them when I see them on the shelves–if I don’t already have a copy–and devour the books. For a while now, some of Grisham’s books haven’t been my cuppa. I want mystery, suspense and to turn pages needing to know what would happen next. Some of the recent books haven’t been so gripping in that respect.

This book goes back to what I want to read. It’s gripping, there are characters I worried about and I wanted to see how this would all play out. I mean, the main character is a minister-slash-attorney. I’m snagged. I liked Cullen, the minister/attorney. He’s a bit of a sleaze, but he admits it. He’s also got a big heart. When it comes to helping those who aren’t in the best shape to help themselves and get out of jail, he’s on it. I liked his Don Quixote qualities. I also liked how he devoted himself to his clients, particularly Quincy. Quincy, the lifer accused of killing another being has a gentle giant quality to him. He reminded me of the character from The Green Mile. I wanted him to get his freedom and rooted for both him and Cullen to get what they needed by the end of the book.

This is a quick read and there is one gross spot in the book. It involves alligators in the Everglades and meat. I won’t go into details, but if you’re easily nauseated, then this might be the part to skip over.

But if you’re looking for a book with redeemable characters and an intriguing plot, then this might be the book for you. Recommended.

After a particularly infuriating conversation with her husband Cameron, Riley impulsively gets involved with Edward, a socially-challenged man who had asked her out once, only to be rejected. When Riley runs into him again, she takes out her rage and frustration in a way that delights and intoxicates Edward but was a one-time event for Riley. Edward looks for ways to pursue the relationship but is frustrated at every turn. He begins to stalk Riley and then resorts to the Dark Web to find ways to retaliate against her. What follows is complicated, intense, and completely unforeseen.

This story starts out with some serious psychological ponderings, the kind many people would experience, making it relatable. The questions are interesting, and the uneasy protagonist has some things to work out. The tale was penned by a psychologist, and this shows in the great and detailed characterization.

Riley is a writer composing a novel, and the secondary story of her book is interwoven throughout her own story. She often makes self-comparisons with her characters.

There are different types of relationships explored in depth here, and in an entertaining fashion. This tale is all about introspection occasionally pierced by moments of intense action. The characters consider going down very different roads, and so readers will wonder if they’ll make good choices or really terrible ones, amping up the suspense. Danger exists, based on those choices. The author has written complex, unpredictable, all-too-human characters to drive the drama unfolding in their lives, such as Edward, who stalks Riley after she jilts him. Readers will surely rethink their opinions of the protagonists, the antagonists, and the secondary characters more than once.

Though the pace is not quick, the large amount of internal ponderings offers a great view into the human psyche and so is worth the read.

Let me clarify my opening statement. The book starts quite frankly with Bea seeing what she thinks is a penguin. Turns out it’s a nun.

I’m newer to the cozy mystery genre. I’ll admit, I was looking forward to something closer to Agatha Christie, but that’s on me for not knowing the genre as well as I might. I expected certain things to happen and when they didn’t, I was pleasantly surprised in some aspects and annoyed in others. It’s on me as the reader for not knowing the genre. So if you’re new to the genre of cozy mystery, let this book take you on a ride.

The writing flows well and I got right into the story. I wasn’t as invested in Bea’s character, but I did like her sometime love interest. I wanted to know who committed the murder and didn’t pick up on how it was committed, so that’s good. Plus, this book takes place in the islands off Lake Erie in the Ohio/Michigan area. If you’re fond of that area, then this book will delight you.

If you’re looking for a mystery that’s a quick read and has a bit of fun, then this is the book for you.
