What brought them together was her the death of her boss. That one strange phone call spiraled Elite and everyone down a road that they may not get out of in one piece.

The story was really well-written, especially the mystery aspect, and that helped when the mystery got dark. It was a twisting and suspenseful road.  I do wish there was more information or backstory with Lindsey and John. Their love story plot, though great, was not the main plot, and it felt a bit drawn out for how long the full story is. The Romantic plot and the Mystery plot helped me want to reach the climax, which might not have been possible with just one genre here.

I have not read book one but it does feel as if some of the characters appear in book one. If you are going to read the series it may be best read it in order. That being said this book is great for readers who want both Mystery and Romance.

The thing about this story? Holly Banks thinks she’s in the middle of a perfect world and has to be perfect, too. Except she’s not. Has she come to accept that? No. That’s what makes her relatable. We’re all trying to be better versions of ourselves and hoping we can strive a little harder. Who wants to coast through life?

The funny part is, while some of the things that happen in this book are a little outlandish, it’s like reading about friends with the life-is-stranger-than-fiction bend to it. Really.

If you want a breezy novel that’s good for reading in an afternoon, then this might be the book for you.

Together, these two need to figure out both of their problems as well as those of the job they have been assigned to. Sounds like fun!

This is book ten in the series although you can read it as a standalone, as I have. Yes, there were times when I would have liked more information, but that is the risk you take when you read a book in a series you haven’t read from the beginning. On the whole, though, I found this to be engrossing and would certainly say it stood on its own feet.

The story itself is well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that I noticed. Some of it was clear to see, other parts were shrouded in mystery, keeping me on my toes as I read. There was also plenty of anticipation and build-up between our two main characters which only added to the story, in my opinion.

A brilliant read and the series is now on my TBR pile! Absolutely recommended by me.

He has a way of creating a story with lively character and he makes you wonder if the story and the events could be real. The characters are strong-willed and courageous. The story has an unexpected plot twist that doesn’t let the action sag at any point. The author included moments that played mind tricks with the characters and a few times I was even wondering what was real. The three days did seem to go by very slow. Len and Olivia didn’t take Dr. Laveaux’s threat very seriously. Time was ticking the first two days in slow motion but as the deadline approached it seems the story picked up pace and the ending rushed.

As the count for the days go by, Dr. Laveaux’s antics increased. This unputdownable tale combines style and suspense. You may need to sleep with a nightlight after reading this terrifying thriller. I enjoyed that the author didn’t overwhelm the story with love and romance. I did like that the couple was up against perilous danger and their marriage bond was strengthened. The author did a wonderful job of creating a believable couple complete with flaws and past emotions that Dr. Laveaux plays on. I wanted things to work out for Len and Olivia but I also felt sorry for how Dr. Laveaux lost his house. Yes he is the horrible bad guy and he’s seeking revenge on all who had a part in taking his home.

The novel is spectacularly paced and gives a full story. A reader can’t go wrong with adding this diverting story to their paranormal reading list.

This book certainly started off with shock value that captured my interest. I can honestly say the suspense/mystery had me riveted and turning the pages until the very end. The plot was rather unique and the cast of characters were well established. The romance was well written, sweet and endearing.

The suspenseful plot had me flipping the pages perhaps too fast because I do believe I might have missed something. The title of the book is what the townsfolk called the heroine, Lucy. I don’t know why she was called that. I tried to google “Lovely Digits” to see if it was a well known phrase or cliche but I was unable to find any meaning to the words. Therefore I conclude that I missed something. Although, I re-read page twelve and two hundred and twenty four where she was referred to as “Lovely Digits” and I didn’t see an explanation. I share all this to give a full disclosure that I was slightly distracted during my reading trying to understand why she was called that. It’s my OCD to details that makes this worth mentioning for I truly wonder why she was called “Lovely Digits”.

Having said that, I must state how much I enjoyed the unpredictability provided by the surprised plot twists. The hero, John, could hardly keep up with the turn of events. I know I was out of breath reading each new development.

John and Lucy made a great couple but better partners in solving the mystery. I’m glad things all worked out in the end. I appreciate how the ending provided a solid closure. I’d recommend this book if you are interested in a sweet romance with relatable characters and a suspenseful mystery.

Grace isn’t one to like but readers may love to hate her. She’s a strong spirit that’s not shy and gives off a memorable presence. She has a way with people that’s persuasive but it’s also scary. Monica obviously didn’t take any of her mother’s dominate characteristics or she’s a sucker for her mother’s love. I was hoping Monica would catch on and see what was going on. Monica was my less favorite character because she was so trusting, insecure and naive. Troy, Monica’s husband, is someone I wanted to not like because of his personal attack on his marriage but in the end my view of him changed for the better.

I enjoyed the storyline because it’s something new I haven’t read before. The author did a good job in giving the story what it needed to be well rounded. A daughter without the love of her mother would be open and accepting to have her absence mother present in her life. I would like for the author to have given more of Grace’s story and how she became who she is. I read the story pretty quickly because the plot is very interesting and I couldn’t wait to see how the story played out. The author’s talent for writing paranormal I’m surprised his name isn’t listed with other popular paranormal authors. His knack for creating such a storyline full of characters and a paranormal situations that is fully developed, easy to follow and leaves reader wanting more.

Any book by this author would be highly recommend for those that enjoy paranormal.

I got this book as a paperback. Rarely ever do I read anything that isn’t on an e-reader. I don’t like to read paperbacks. They are hard for me to hold and I can’t change the print size. But this looked like a good book. Well, no matter how hard it was to hold, I couldn’t put the thing down. I read 300 pages in 3 sittings.

This story does at one point switch back and forth between occurring actions. This can be confusing sometimes but it didn’t bother me this time. Each part was quite clear, and it seemed as if they began to weave together. I think the only thing that bothered me was being upset with the author that I couldn’t find out soon enough or read fast enough to know what was going to happen in in each section. I don’t think most authors would be upset by such a complaint though.

There are many important characters in Bell’s book. The main lawyer, John, made me think of Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith goes to Washington. You know, that kind of character that seems somewhat naive and yet behind the scenes is a shrewd, smart man. One who can use his naivete as a distinct advantage. This is not to say there are a few times John isn’t a little slow on the uptake, but it is most certainly not in the courtroom. John’s partner Jackson is also an interesting character. One you could easily picture in a tv series as one of those slow-going, smart as can be, private detectives. Do you see what’s happening here? James Bell made characters that I have perfect pictures of in my mind. I can even tell you what Karen, John’s assistant, looked like or Peter the young kid they helped. To write well enough to have created a picture of pretty well every character in your reader’s mind is good writing. I suppose that is why I enjoyed the book so much.

In researching his work, I found only a couple of books published by James D. Bell. I sure hope he’s working on another one.

Ellenor doesn’t seem to have strong feelings about the war, and the German family who employs her are like family to her. I admit I was shocked at how quickly Ellenor turned away from it all to aid a man she knows nothing about. Even if this did strike me as a bit unrealistic, it did give the story a sense of urgency that piqued my curiosity and kept me turning pages.

Ellenor and Alec are very likable characters, but I must admit their romance didn’t feel quite right to me. Everything happened so fast. They were in a high-pressure situation, and their lives depended on trusting each other. That kind of intensity surely bonded them and could certainly be the beginning of a relationship. I just wish they’d had a bit more time to explore their budding feelings for each other. Despite my misgivings about the speed at which their relationship became serious, I do think they have the potential to be a great couple.

Mr. Hawvermale takes the suspense up another notch in the last third of the book. Alec and Ellenor are so close to completing Alec’s mission. However, unbeknownst to them, they have been followed by Gustav Voss, a captain in the German air force. I can’t give away details without spoiling the story, but I will say that Alec and Ellenor find themselves practically cornered by Voss. I had absolutely no idea how Alec and Ellenor would escape, and I was on the edge of my seat racing through the pages! I must say I was thoroughly surprised and pleased with how the situation played out.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read The Beekeeper’s Bullet. Anyone looking for a historical romance filled with suspense would do well to pick up a copy.

“Spirit River Dam” by Susan Daly told the tale of an art dealer who was brought a potential Tom Thomson painting for appraisal. The possibility of discovering an unknown, priceless painting by this artist was irresistible even when evidence began to mount that he might not have been the painter who made it after all. What I enjoyed the most about this tale were all of the plot twists in it. No sooner would I come up with a theory about what was really happening than the next scene would turn that theory on its head. This happened several times, and it kept me guessing until the very last moment.

I enjoyed all of the tales in this collection, but a few of them would have benefited from more development. “The Stonecutter’ by Edith Maxwell was one example of this. It was about a librarian named Eleanor who had an affair with a married man. When her lover began to feel guilty for cheating on his wife, she had to decide what she was willing to do to keep him. I was fascinated by how quickly their illicit romance developed, especially considering the fact that both of these characters were otherwise known to be very moral and upstanding citizens. This made the twist at the end a little hard to swallow. I liked what the author was doing with it, but it would have been helpful to more foreshadowing either about the Eleanor’s personality or what would become of their secret love.

As soon as I finished the first paragraph in LD Masterson’s “Deadly Dinner” and realized that the protagonist was murdering nursing home residents, I had to find out why Bixby would ever do such a thing. While his reasons for these choices should be left for each new reader to discover themselves, I was pleased with how thoroughly the author explained everything. Bixby was not a likeable character, but he sure was a fascinating one. This isn’t always an easy thing to pull off, so I enjoyed reading about someone I would never want to meet in real life.

The Best Laid Plans: 21 Stories of Mystery & Suspense should be read by anyone who loves this genre.
