Don’t go asking questions you don’t want to know the answer to, especially when you’re on a psych ward, and even you begin to question your sanity.

If Amy thought this day on the psych ward would be just like any other she would be sadly mistaken. For although everything seemed normal, well as normal as a place like that could be, there was something that was not quite right. That she couldn’t put her finger on it only made it all the more perplexing. But the real question was, should you go asking questions you aren’t prepared to hear the answer to?

Sometimes the biggest mysteries are packed into the minutia of daily life: a dripping faucet, a terry cloth robe.

It’s difficult to create a memorable protagonist in such a short story, but author E.H. James did a fantastic job sketching out Amy’s personality and even a little bit of her backstory. You’ll shudder through her pain, confusion and unshakable curiosity as you follow her tale.

Just enough information is provided about the secondary characters to enhance the mystery. Had the author decided to expand this concept into a full-length novel these characters could have easily been fleshed out into more complex individuals but for a story this size these characters were perfectly described.

To be honest I figured out the twist early on but the clues were so subtle this in no way dampened my enthusiasm for the plot. It was even more interesting to read it a second time and pick up on a few more clues that I hadn’t noticed the first time around!

I still wonder what happened to Amy, her friend Angela and the rest of the characters after the end of The Visitor’s Room and I’ll be paying close attention to the author’s future projects. There’s room for a sequel here and even if the author decides not to write one I’m excited to read stories about other characters.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of The Visitor’s Room. Your only regret will be that you didn’t discover such a talented writer sooner.

Elizabeth – of Hartford Hall – is hardly treated as befits her station, but determinedly carries on, making the best of things and planning a future. James, Sir James in fact, does not figure into that future at all. Though of course we suspect something might develop between them, their awkward early conversations certainly make us doubt it.

Readers will love the unabashed toughness of Elizabeth; whatever happens, she makes the best of it. Her young man, we are more ambivalent about – one moment charmer, the next, cad. Who is he really? He seems like he could be the one…and certainly at times we see him as the ‘steady gentleman.’ Yet, he himself seems to reject that appearance.

Other characters are equally well developed, and I was especially drawn to the very believable (and gossipy) servants. Details are subtly included and only add to the aura. Such points allow us to see this clearly as a mid-nineteenth century England, without ever having to out and out say so. I was quite prepared to like this story from its wonderful start and am pleased to share that I simply loved it.

Christmas at Hartford Hall earns one of its five stars.  You won’t want to wait for Christmas to read this one.

I’m a mix of emotions when it comes to this story. The concept- brilliant! The execution of the concept into the story, however, gets very confusing quickly. It was hard to tell what was real and what wasn’t. When I first found out that things weren’t what they seemed, I was enchanted. What a clever twist! The problem: There wasn’t a clear explanation to why this was happening, and with so many changes, it was difficult to follow along very well, and I ended up really confused. I had to go back a few times and see what I missed.

The writing is beautiful. The love story between Derek and Annie, I enjoyed. The way they were with each other, the snappy and fun dialogue. When it came to the ending, though, I had more questions than I got answers for and it left me a little puzzled.

It didn’t take Harry long to figure out the murders were related in some form. He never expected the killings to be related to him, though.

This author writes a hard hitting story that’s very graphic in describing the death scenes and sexual depravity of a demon controlled personality. The story is both horrifying and intriguing. This wasn’t a book I could set aside and go on to something else. I had to keep turning the pages, hoping to find out who and how they had done what they were doing. The answer is almost unfathomable…

This author does a nice job of creating a fantasy world that seems reasonable. Besides humans, her world holds draconians and dragons. And woe be to anyone who has been sired by a dragon.

This is an excellent read for a young person going through life changes who needs a distraction or for someone who enjoys fantasy or stories about dragons.

I really wanted to give The Center of the Storm a higher rating. The story, while at times fairly predictable, includes incredibly likeable characters and a well-paced plot. The climax fulfills the reader’s desire for closure without ignoring character development or earlier foreshadowing but clunky dialogue and some grammar and other editing issues in this book were distracting, especially when they occurred during otherwise compelling scenes.

Despite these flaws The Center of the Storm is at heart a wonderful tale about love, redemption and the unshakable bonds of family and I can certainly recommend it.

Jasmine comes across loud and clear as a pre-teen on the brink of discovering all the turbulence that comes with the teen years.

As Jasmine deals with her feelings concerning her father, she is also faced with liking a boy for the first time – and having him like her back. She has this idea that if she can just repeat the same set of circumstances she witnessed with an older girl and her boyfriend, she can win the heart of the boy she likes. Though the pace of the book is a little slow and, I think, in danger of losing the attention of readers in the target age range here and there, it’s a great coming of age story. This is one of those stories that, by the end, I was left wondering what happened to them later, as though they were real people. When that happens, you know you’ve just read something good. This is definitely worth checking out, especially if you have young children dealing with these issues. It’s a good book to help them realize there are situations beyond their control and aren’t usually their fault. And it may even inspire an interest in art!

Ms. Greer’s style is extraordinarily straightforward and readable. Her writing fades into the background, to allow her story to take center stage.

Gripping from the start, but with its tender moments too, Pointe of Danger combines the best qualities of romance with suspense; blends a Christmas tale with a bit of a thriller. You will find yourself hoping for mistletoe even while puzzling out the mystery.

The author does an excellent job of describing the odd characters that frequent the restaurant late at night. They seem strange and a bit off the wall, but they don’t bother anyone. With just a few words and a change of nuance the familiar begin to look different. They are more than they seemed… That hooked me. This isn’t going to be a tale where the main character is the hero, there’s more to the story than that. So I kept reading…

One man always has a chat with his friend, even though he’s invisible. One lady likes origami and makes sand cranes. The seen and the unseen work together to fight the supernatural creature there to end someone’s life. It’s a twisted tangled tale that’s a bit creepy, plenty busy, interesting and entertaining.

Why not buy a copy of this novella and sit down for a good scare? How the story ends is even more interesting and I’ll be watching for more from this author. I like his writing style.

Hunter has always appreciated Jacinda for the bookish nerd she used to be. Years have passed since he’s seen her and what he sees now is a whole lot of trouble. Conflicted over how to handle their growing feelings, Hunter and J.C. are forced to make some drastic decisions that will hurt their loved ones. What they didn’t anticipate was hurting each other.

Hunting J.C. is the first in a series about a meddling but loveable family, where the children are challenged in the love department. J.C., being the youngest Sherman and the only female, sheds her good girl existence and surgically enhances her appearance to appease a husband who is now her ex. Her personality is at times temperamental, but I appreciated that she is the initial aggressor in starting a relationship with Hunter. While Hunter may come across as a bit of a playboy, he’s still a good-guy at heart. The Sherman family trusts him implicitly. Hunter and J.C. do have haunted pasts that have shaped the people they are in the present, but it also fuels explosions in both passion and anger.

The storyline demands attention of the reader with the couple’s intense ups and downs, but the mystery portion fell a bit flat with a rushed ending. However, I was still compelled to continue Hunter and J.C.’s journey as it took on unexpected detours even at the end. The writing is visually clear and contains great combinations of humor, anger, and passion, so it should be no surprise I’m absolutely looking forward to my next Sherman family fix!
