It was shocking and it was very difficult for me to get the images out of my mind. With where I live, and where ever I go, I see trees so this story has kind of changed my perspective a lot.

This was Anita facing her problems with Jade. This was Anita learning the differences between herself, Jade and Jason’s girlfriend, J.J. I found myself fascinated. I care about Anita and as such, this book had a more powerful impact for me. I actually enjoyed it because for all the sexy talk, descriptions and hot scenes with Nathan, Jason and the rest of the small crew, there was still a purpose, a goal that had to be reached and sex was the vehicle for making it happen.

Since the Anita Blake series is ongoing, I hesitate to call this a standalone read. Yet, this is focused on figuring out if Jason and J.J. could realistically make a go of their relationship. It focuses on a short span of time with a tight group of characters. It possibly could be read as a standalone if a reader is looking for a book that explores some serious multi-partner action and doesn’t demand a traditional HEA. Nothing about this series is traditional and this book is no exception. As for the conclusion, it’s as close to a happy for now as it can get because Ms. Hamilton is the queen of hooks and dangling teases. She resolves the big stuff but always leaves a reader yearning for more, in a good way. I’d say Jason fits that formula.

For avid fans of the series, this is a must add to the collection. If only because we see Jason pursuing the most ‘normal’ of all the romantic entanglements I’ve seen in this series so far, and he’s a very likable and endearing character. I’m glad that it looks like he might have found someone who sees him for the man he is and not his were-animal. It was a fun novella and will probably appeal to fans more than new readers. Then again, on its own, this is a very hot read. In any event, it’s a decent story and I’m glad I read it.

The inn revolves around the tree. Would within and without, the Family Tree is all things to the people of this backward place. Tapping the tree for the mead and whiskey, the tree is life. But what Scott doesn’t realize is what the tree gives, it also must take. A member of the Belvedere family has always been the keeper of the tree and he is about to find out just how much the tree expects from him.

There is a strong erotic element to this novel. As Scott ingests more and more of the blood of the tree through the house brew, he becomes to realize one of the side effects. He is perpetually in rut and is put in the position of taking sometimes three women a night. The way the story is laid out may not entirely appeal to female readers as the women are depicted in a 2-D kind of fashion where their primary focus is getting pregnant by the heir to the tree. It was a good horror novel despite this and in some ways reminded me of The Wicker Man (the newer version). As the story progresses, the debauchery does as well. What was erotic becomes forced and Scott is taken and tapped much like the tree. There is no escaping his fate. He is the heir and the heir must provide.

Can Scott break away from the hold of the Family Tree and its devoted disciples? Is the blood of the few worth more than the many? You’ll have to read this fast paced thriller to find out.

I do feel like the author handled this pretty well, and a reader who picked up this book up as a first time read by Ms. Yssel wouldn’t have this same issue. This book can definitely be read as a stand alone.

I enjoyed being back on Bondage Ranch, and I do hope there are more stories set here in the future. The author is great at writing quick and light hearted BDSM, and I enjoy her skill with novella length stories that still have an emotional punch.

Sabra is ashamed of what happened as well, and determined to make it up to the tight knit group of mechanics, and just maybe, she can also make it up to Holden, a man who intrigues her in a way no one ever has. When she brings a proposal to the Hot Rods that could change their future, is a good way, at first Holden is the lone stand out in the Hot Rods, but he can’t seem to fight the feelings he has for Sabra. When he learns that she left her job as news reporter because of her belief that those higher up at her station might have been behind the ‘leak’, he reluctantly listens to her plans for the team. He also discovers how much he really likes her, and is delighted when the feeling is mutual. When she realizes that those in charge at the station went against the guidelines, she quit rather than condone what they did. I like her strength of character, and she has an adventurous side that is willing to accept new challenges. Especially if those challenges include spending time with Holden. She felt the connection, and hopes he will accept the apology she offers for what happened.

Holden grew up in the center that Eli’s dad and mom started, part of the Hot Rod family of troubled and abandoned children. He has always felt like part of the group, but as each of the Hot Rods found that special person, he thinks he doesn’t fit the same anymore, and hates that he has become more of an observer than a participant. When he realizes Sabra is more than just a quick fling, he slowly brings her into their world, hoping for the best. I liked watching Holden show his romantic side with her, and his ability to let go of his past to face a future filled with possibilities.

Sabra and Holden have fantastic chemistry, and the progression of their relationship is fast and furious. Sabra, with her background in yoga, brings a whole new definition to going with the flow. I enjoyed the highs and the lows in this one, and liked that the ‘big boss’ at the station was not able to keep the project down in spite of his efforts. There is a brief visit with the Crew from the Powertools series, and it was great catching up with them as well. There are some tearful moments, some giggle producing ones and there is a very suspenseful cliff hanger of an ending to this one. If you like your passion off the charts, with lots of bodies in lots of combinations, this is right up your alley. But bring ice and tissues, both will be needed.

One thing seemed to lead to another stranger thing or action. Laura meets one man who introduces her to his brother and than later in the story another brother is introduced to her and she does not even bat an eye. It seems it is just a given fact that she belongs to him as well. I have no problem with how many men she has, just with the way it happens.

These men are very domineering and make no exceptions; they are alpha males to the max. I enjoy alpha males very much but at times these men seemed to go overboard. Yet they love with their whole heart and will never let anything hurt the ones that they love. Roman, Daniel and Grant are each great men on their own and together they are a force to be reckoned with. Seeing their love for Laura made for a nice read. I also enjoyed meeting many of the other men and the brothers family. I loved their mother, she is a great character. Some characters like Laura’s ex were really just filler for me. It seemed that they were there just to tie up lose ends. Laura and her friend are both strong women and can hold their own against such strong alpha men. I also enjoyed the fact that these women were not tiny and the so called perfect size and such that woman are portrayed as a lot in society and literature.

As the story progresses I found I started to think that Laura’s story just got stranger and stranger and wondered what would come next. This is a fast paced story and the twists and turns in it did pique my interest enough to wonder if it is a start to a series or connected to others from this author and will have me searching for more from this author in the future to see.

I like Kelt, his dedication to his ex-lover, although they’d been apart for quite some time, is sweet. Also, I think there’s more to him than we know so far and I wonder if he’ll make an appearance in the next installment.

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Eden’s Present ends on one heck of a cliffhanger, stopping right after a major revelation. I was rather stunned by this revelation, thinking it would be one thing when it wound up being something else completely. Needless to say, I’m anxiously awaiting the next novel in this series! The author has a real talent for building suspense right up to the very last word. The Eden series only gets better and more tangled as we move forward. I wonder what the author has in store for us next? Hopefully some answers to the questions that have been brewing since book one!
