This synopsis sounded amazing. The best part was that the synopsis didn’t give every plot thread away.  I’m thrilled to tell you that Lady August is so much more than just the synopsis. Thank you Becky Michaels.

I was excited to read a story about a heroine that was consider a nobody until it was revealed that she was in fact the daughter of an earl. It was wonderful to read how that transpired and evolved. I appreciated the detail involved with the significance of the heroine’s name, August Summer. Her character was smart, strong and mixed with a little naivety. I easily related to her and quickly cheered her on.

The hero, Samuel Brooks, was a steady hero but not my typical book boyfriend. While he worked well with August, he had some issues he had to deal with that I felt he over-dramatized. However, Samuel and August were heartwarming together.

The best part of this story was that it was like an onion. There were multiple characters with side plot lines. It was easy and fun to follow along. I found the pace to be consistent and non-troublesome as some story lines flowed with expected and unexpected situations.

The writing style was smooth and authentic for a historical novel minus one curse word, or so I thought. I Googled the timing of when that curse word was invented and was surprised to learn that it is indeed an accurate historical curse word.

One thing that was an eye-opener was how the majority of the love scenes were sweet/sensual. It wasn’t until near the end of the book that a certain couple turned up the heat level. I wasn’t prepared for that intense heat index. Fortunately I don’t have an issue with that but my mother would. Ha, ha.

In conclusion, Lady August was a very nice read. I’m not sure if this is a series or not but I would like a book with the hero being August’s brother Charles. I’d like to see him redeemed. A third book would be nice with the heroine being August’s sister, Rosamund. I’d like Rosamund to find her happily ever after. I loved the epilogue that did tie up all the lose threads and gave me a feeling of satisfaction. I am just greedy and wanted more. Lady August is a welcoming addition to my list of books that I gladly recommend.

I was in the mood to read a Christmas story in the month of June. I was lucky to find this Christi Barth book. I recently enjoyed a book by this author so I decided to give her a second try. I was not disappointed at all. In fact I wanted to put up my Christmas tree and play some holiday music.

My mom likes to read what she calls, “smut free” romance books. This book was so sweet and innocent that I just have to buy it for her to read. It’s the perfect book to read at Christmastime with some hot cocoa, or in my case, during the summer. It hit all the feel good spots. When I finished reading this book I noticed that the Hallmark Channel is playing Christmas movies in June. Apparently, I’m not the only one who needed to feel a little Christmas spirit.

While I was reading The Magic of Christmas, it brought me back to my childhood. The Christmas-themed resort that the hero, Jeremy, and the heroine, Rowan, are trying to revive is very similar to one that actually exists in Putney, VT. Of course it’s not the same resort but it was easy for me to visualize the setting in which this story is set.

The writing style is easy on the eyes from beginning to end. The synopsis pretty much sums up the plot which is fine with me because the story-line was creative and ingenious for a contemporary romance. It makes for a light, fluffy and easy read without any surprises. The characters are well developed and relatable.

Jeremy and Rowan made for a heartwarming romance. Just as the synopsis states, “their rivalry wanes and attraction grows, will Jeremy and Rowan embrace the magic of Christmas?” I sure did.

This was my second Christi Barth book and I know it won’t be my last. There is a book that I’m waiting to read in one of her series. I’m going to officially put Christi Barth on my new favorite author to-read list. I hope others will enjoy this book as much as I did.

I’ve never read a story by Christi Barth before but I would definitely consider reading another. In fact, The Accidental Fiancé is the first book in the series, Love Lottery, and it’s made me curious enough to read book two.

The synopsis says it all. Literally, two hundred and ninety-four pages later there weren’t any additional surprises or plot twists but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the story, I did. My advice is, if the synopsis intrigues you like it did me, then don’t hesitate to give it a try. I’m certainly glad I did. There are times I’m not in the mood for an unpredictable, high adrenaline or complex book. Sometimes it’s nice to relax and read a heartwarming, fluffy story.

The characters were well-developed and relatable. I look forward to meeting them again in the sequel.

The prologue was a bit far-fetched but anything is possible. My interest was captured early on and was easily kept until the last page.

The romance between the hero, Alex, and the heroine, Sydney, was mostly sweet. I appreciated the sense of humor they brought into the story line. Someone not from a small town, such as Alex, had a lot to learn about how fast small town gossip spreads.

I recommend picking this book up to read and I’ll be picking up Book 2: Definitely Not Dating. Enjoy!

I literally just finished this book and the first thing I want to say is, if all the other books in this series are as great as this one then I will continue to read this series. A Reckless Heart was fulfilling. I don’t recall ever using that word in any of my previous reviews and I’m approaching my two hundredth review. Why that word has popped into my head is unknown to me other than to say that is how I feel at the moment. Sometimes I’ll use the term “book glow” but in this case that term is shallow.

I can see how many readers might compare this story to the classic “Beauty and the Beast” tale. However, A Reckless Heart resonated with me. I guess there’s my answer as to why I found this book to be fulfilling. Not only did I relate to the plot but I also related to the characters. I am someone that lives with pain and deformity thanks to arthritis. I consider my hands to be hideous and yet my husband doesn’t think or see that when he holds my hands.

Meg Thurgood, the heroine, paid a price for misplaced loyalty. Something many people can relate to at one time or another. I at least have had many friends that I learned later were indeed not a real friend. Unfortunately, Meg paid a steep price for that life lesson. I had an instant connection with Meg’s personal conflict. She just wanted solitude and a chance to rebuild her life.

Simon McAlter, the hero, really hit home with me. Sometimes I want to stay hidden in my house. Society’s judgements can often be cruel to people who are different from the norm–whatever that norm is that day. Simon has been in solitude for quite some time.

A Reckless Heart is beautifully written. The descriptions of the landscapes, flowers and my favorite…the inner turmoil thoughts and feelings inside Meg and Simon’s heads. Meg’s cruel life lesson has made her a better person – one who can see past Simon’s physical appearance. Simon has a heart of gold but unfortunately a fire left him scarred physically and emotionally. The story is heartwarming as the two work through building their trust and love between each other while working on their own demons.

My interest was captured immediately and never wavered. The storyline flowed and even had a few plot twists that left me agape, but that is what made the book so much better.

There are other characters in the plot line who are relevant to the success of this book such as Simon’s business partners. I hope they are considered as future heroes in this series. A Reckless Heart’s setting is on the coast of Maine, which means it is a small town where everyone knows everyone. That can be a good thing, or a bad thing especially when there’s rumors going around. I used to live in a small town in Massachusetts so I’m all too familiar with how the gossip mill works.

The one thing that hiccupped me was how Meg’s secret was portrayed as “complex” throughout the story. I carried that weight with her. I couldn’t see a solution. Reviews are subjective; I feel bad mentioning anything negative but the collaboration it took involving Meg’s secret left me feeling as if the conclusion was rushed. However, I assure you that I still enjoyed the conclusion very much. I’m not a writer, I don’t pretend to be one. I just read and review how a book impacts me.

With that said, A Reckless Heart definitely left its mark on me. I will be adding it to my “keepers’ shelf”. I look forward to the next story in the series and highly recommend this book to be read. I’d love to discuss this novel in a book club to see how other readers were inspired by Meg and Simon’s endeavor. They displayed courage, bravery, love, humor, forgiveness and of course, chemistry. I felt their romance was an effective mixture of sweet and sensual. Overall, I absolutely loved this romance book.

Will our love be enough to remain unscathed and come out on top together?

The synopsis for Park Avenue Princess intrigued me. I love plot concepts where the heroine reaches her breaking point in life and escapes reality to find herself in some far-off distant location only to meet her soul mate, but leaves him to return to reality. The hero is then desperate to find her since of course she didn’t use her real name or exchange any information to locate her. They both were each other’s love at first sight. *gasp*. Of course, the story is even better when the reader can relate to why the heroine has snapped. Who doesn’t want to run away to some vacation resort and be footloose and fancy-free? Years go by and they never forgot the time they had. Be still my heart. *Sigh* I will read that plotline every single time and love it. Especially when, wham! they run into each other in the real world. My eyes grew big as I soaked up the words on the pages. Needless to say, my eyes couldn’t read as fast as my fingers could flip the pages.

Beginning to end I was connected to Lynne, the heroine. She always did what was expected of her and never received positive reinforcement. I thrive on accolades in my personal and professional life. I personally don’t get enough recognition for all I do. Ha, ha.

The hero’s name is Guy. Eh, not my favorite book boyfriend name but he definitely fit my book boyfriend criteria. I don’t recall Guy ever getting upset or impatient or having any conflict. Guy was all most too perfect, if that’s possible. When my husband tells me “To get my head out of my books”, that they aren’t reality, I think he’s referring to this one.

Guy and Lynne make for an entertaining read with some hot chemistry. It was interesting how their families were intertwined considering Guy and Lynne never met before their romantic whirlwind encounter at a vacation get away.

Which leads me to character development. There was enough depth to each character to make the story evolve with some interesting plot twists. An analogy would be – you know when you go to a restaurant and you order a steak? Imagine the steak on your plate being thin. It was still tasty and you ate every bite but you wanted more because it wasn’t the quality piece of meat you were expecting. That is how I’m feeling right now. Perhaps I could have used a little bit more drama/conflict to induce the “Oh no!”, clutch my chest, break my heart for a minute before the rush of relief. That is just my personal preference.

I appreciated the story as a whole. The ending was a satisfying deep breath. All the plot threads were neatly wrapped up. The writing style kept me engaged without any hiccups. I’ve never read a book by Laura M. Baird before and I would consider reading another book of hers in the future. I wish my husband would read this book and pick up a few of Guy’s unconditional loving traits. *smile*

Everyone’s Happy-Ever-After was unique. I imagine Guy and Lynne are going to live a long content life. This was a fun read.

This is my second Brenda Whiteside book. I remember reading and enjoying one of her books previously and, after reading Secrets of the Ravine’s synopsis, I thought I’d enjoy this one as well.

I have no qualms saying that I enjoyed the story. It was well written. Most of the characters were well developed and many were relatable. The plot was creative, interesting and unpredictable and the pace moved along in waves. I had moments where I didn’t want to put it down. Then I had moments where it was a good time to pause and go to bed. I enjoyed that writing style. I don’t need to be on the edge of my seat having an anxiety attack on each page of the book.

I personally struggled with the age of the heroine, Magpie. The synopsis didn’t allude to her age at all. I’m not use to reading a romance involving a woman with children in college. I have children in college so I couldn’t relate to Magpie’s characteristics.

The hero, Zack, was younger but mature. Zack and Magpie had an instant connection. A connection that was beyond a logical minded person. There was some universe/Deja vu plot threads. My logical mind was okay with that line of direction because it was more behind the scenes. The visions and odd moments were mildly integrated in the story. It was quite interesting to read despite that I typically don’t read books with psychic traits. I can say that Zack and Magpie definitely had love and chemistry working between them.

The murder mystery was very good. I was intrigued with that process throughout the story. I was actually more into solving the mystery than Zack and Magpie finding their happily ever after. However, in the end I was pleased that everything worked out.

I definitely don’t have any reservations about recommending this first book in The Mackenzie Chronicles series, Secrets of the Ravine. If a reader enjoys romances with older heroines then this book is a good fit for you.

Well, I’ll be the first to eat my words. I read and reviewed book one in this series and didn’t really think I’d read the next one considering the heroine was going to be Leah Harrington and I wasn’t a fan. I admit that I was wrong. When will I ever learn to “never say never”? I love how this book turned out!

In truth, Leah’s Surrender can be read as a standalone but you might want to read about her in the first book in the series. Why? Because I think you might be surprised about Leah. She caused quite the conflict in the first novel which made for an excellent plot. Because of that, I wasn’t sure how she’d be redeemed in my eyes enough to have her own story. I assure you that the evolution of Leah was well written.

Actually, upon further pondering I’ve changed my mind. I absolutely recommend reading the first one prior to Leah’s Surrender because a reader should fully feel the effect of the scandal hanging over Lady Leah’s head. The more I reflect on Leah’s character, the more my opinion changes. I have to consider her age and that her reactions and choices were appropriate in Sophie’s Choice. I didn’t put much consideration into that fact at the time. As you can see, this series could very well be a great choice for a book club debate. But I’ll give credit where credit is due. Heath helped redeem Leah in my eyes. His perspective of her swung me around to team Leah. I would have preferred her age to be slightly higher, but given this is an historical book, I realize that was probably how it was back then. So, as I said before, her behavior was appropriate for her age and therefore necessary to be accurately written as such.

Even though I’ve gone back and forth about the heroine’s character, the unquestionable fact is that A.M. Westerling’s writing style is absolutely remarkable. I have a memory like Dory in the movie Finding Nemo so the fact that I remember my emotions from Sophie’s Choice is a testimony in itself. The Ladies of Harrington House series is unforgettable and I attribute that to the writing style. It made me feel as if I was in the story as a witness. Oh, I can’t forget to mention a certain villainous character that reappears in Leah’s Surrender. That was a nice plot twist.

If you are debating if you should read Sophie’s Choice first or not I’m going to share what’s in my heart. I think Leah’s Surrender will be better for readers after reading the first novel in the series. The characters are very well developed and a strong relationship is built between the reader and the characters. Book two continues that sense of connection. A.M. Westerling has succeeded in wiping out all previous reservations I might have had early on.

Now, I could re-write this review to try to share even more of my favorite parts because there is a great deal of content to reflect upon. One of them is when the hero, Heath’s, ship sinks during a storm. I should have had my life jacket on reading that scene. I’d love to be saved by Captain Heath Trevelyan! Not only does he meet all my book boyfriend qualities but his name alone is swoon worthy. I just love the name Heath. In the words of an Italian Chef, al bacio!

Regarding Heath and Leah’s relationship, I did find it entertaining and I was in full support of their satisfying happily ever after. I’m pleased at how the entire flow of the book kept me guessing what was going to happen next from beginning to end. Leah’s Surrender was hard to put down. Catherine is the next sister in line for her own story and now I can’t wait to read the third book! This is one series I’m glad I discovered and definitely recommend others to discover it too.

I have never heard of the author, Eloisa James ,who is a New York Times Bestseller. Based on the one book that I just finished, Wilde Child, it’s clear I’ve been missing out. One of the other reviewers here at Long and Short Reviews, Xeranthemum, has reviewed all the previous books in the series. I took the time to read her reviews of the Wildes of Lindow Castle series and promptly went to Amazon to purchase the box set. I can’t wait to start from book one. I enjoyed this novel immensely and want to read the previous five stories in this series as soon as possible.

Wilde Child can be read as a standalone although I wish I hadn’t requested it. Based on the knowledge that I have gathered, I prefer to start the series from the beginning. I wish I knew Xeranthemum was following the series so she could have reviewed this novel. I agree with all of Xeranthemum’s earlier reviews. The Wildes family of Lindow Castle are unique, refreshing and entertaining. The best characteristic of the Wildes is their family loyalty to each other.

I fell in love with the heroine, Lady Joan. She was independent, feisty, possessed a witty sense of humor and was guided by her tender heart. The hero, Thaddeus, was preparing to be the ever-so-proper Duke. He lost perspective of any joy in his life, that is, until he met Lady Joan. At first the two of them shared a dislike of each other that turned from protectiveness to love. It was an entertaining read to see their perceptions of each other evolve from disgust to lust to true love. It was a scandalous process that resulted in several book glows.

The plot contained several memorable scenes. Joan’s good friend Otis was hilarious as Ophelia in the Hamlet play. The banter between him and Joan had me giggling. The back and forth repartee of Joan and Thaddeus was equally funny. The aging peacock, Fitzy, and Gully, the castle goat, had me cracking up as well. There were some serious scenes such as the ones between Thaddeus and his father. There were joyous scenes such as the birth of Joan’s sister, Viola. Then there were some sad scenes such as when they shared their past hurts. Then there were a few scenes where I hated Thaddeus’s father. All in all when put together, Wilde Child was a book that I didn’t want to put down or have it end.

I’m thrilled to have discovered a new author, Eloisa James. I anticipate the Wildes of Lindow Castle series will be going on my “keepers’ bookshelf” once it’s delivered by my favorite book store. Happy Reading!

I was full of anticipation when I got the book and prayed I wouldn’t be disappointed. When I say “I LOVED it”, that is putting it mildly and bluntly.

After I finished reading the story, I was curious about the author so I Googled her. Wouldn’t you know it, this was not my first Eleanor Webster novel. I previously reviewed a book by her called “A Debutante in Disguise”. I found that review and I wasn’t surprised that I wrote “This was my first Eleanor Webster book and it won’t be my last”. Well, now I can say this was my second one written by her and I need to stop picking books by the synopsis and pay attention to who the author is because once again, I loved Eleanor Webster’s writing style.

The little four-year-old girl that I nanny for has a new saying, “Holy Fruit snacks”. Hearing her say it cracks me up but it’s an appropriate saying for Caught in a Cornish Scandal. There are more plot twists going on with each page. I was like “Holy Fruit snacks!” My interest was captured on page one and left me wanting more on the last page. The characters were well developed which made it easy to connect with, relate and follow them through the pages.

The hero, Sam? “Holy Fruit snacks!” He made my book boyfriend collection. I loved how he was portrayed as a true handsome hero. If only he’d come to save me from scrimping, saving and sacrificing my life away. Sam was handsome, strong and had chemistry to boot. His gentlemanly ways were something to behold.

The heroine, Millie, was a hoot. She was independent, stubborn, and had a heart of gold. Millie was always trying to do for others. I can’t think of a better match between Sam and Millie. They got my heartstrings cheering for a Happily Ever After for them.

I couldn’t put this book down and I definitely suggest to readers to pick it up. It was an entertaining, heartwarming and sweet/sensual read. It made me feel exceptionally happy for a few hours afterwards.

I have many thoughts about One Motion More and the first thought that comes to mind is A+ for originality. I genuinely appreciate a book that includes social inclusion. I’ve never read a story where the main character, who in this case is the heroine, Natalie, is disabled. She can’t speak. I was intrigued to find out how Natalie and the hero, Xander, overcome the language barrier. Especially considering Xander is a rock star. I agree with the synopsis when it says they make an unlikely couple. That is why I needed to find out how they’d find their Happily Ever After.

I am familiar with the deaf culture after living near the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) in St. Augustine, FL for several years. I appreciate how the author accurately described Natalie’s world.

One Motion More started off capturing my attention immediately and held my interest throughout the well-paced book. I felt the characters were well developed and I enjoyed meeting each one. I am looking forward to book two being released.

Regarding the relationship and chemistry between Xander and Natalie, I had moments of joy and frustration. Xander was a bit too selfish for my taste and Natalie was a bit too forgiving for me. However, it all worked out in the end. They definitely were attracted to each other and I was pleased with the epilogue. It left me satisfied with their Happily Ever After.

One Motion More was a good read for me.
