From the moment Alfie Brown saw Sophia Cross, he knew without a shadow of a doubt that she was meant for him. She is perfect, beautiful, and he wants to own, to possess every single one of her curves. All he has to do is make sure they meet, and then he can get her to fall in love with him. Simple enough, and he is a man who always gets what he wants.

Sophia just can’t make a decision that could affect the rest of her life. All people want her to do is pick a subject, pick a career, and then live with it for the next fifty years—but the next fifty years is a long time.

And her boss, Alfie, is unlike any man she has ever known. His skills draw her out, and she comes alive. She can’t say no to him. He surrounds her, makes her feel things that she really didn’t think she could.

But how will she feel when she discovers the truth of how he planned everything, from their meeting to her job?

Alfie is unapologetic in his possessiveness of Sophia. While they might not be dating – indeed, she isn’t even aware that he’s addicted to watching her – Alfie knows beyond a doubt this woman belongs body and soul to him. He just needs to show that to her. After a year of protecting her from afar Alfie is finally ready to make his move. Can he convince Sophia that he’s everything she needs?

I had to laugh in a number of places throughout this story. The warning about Alfie being slightly stalkerish is a truthful one – he’s put his nose into her medical records, hacked her home computer, made a deal with her boss to get her a better raise, Alfie is absolutely an all-or-nothing kind of guy. But I have to be honest, while he’s definitely “overbearing alpha hero” in abundance, I personally found the manner with which his character was written was light-hearted and almost tongue-in-cheek. Would I want a guy in my life doing almost any of these things? Hell no. Do I think someone who truly is a stalker or this much of a control-freak is a good thing? Definitely not. I can see for many people this wouldn’t be a joke – and readers should absolutely keep this in mind before purchasing the book. But I personally felt it was written really well – light and not in a controlling/abusive or horrible way – and the author made it abundantly clear beneath this veneer Alfie truly did love Sophie and want only the best for her. This is what shone through for me and along with the lighthearted – almost humorous – method of portraying it, made it quite palatable for me.

When they finally meet, Alfie knows he needs to move slowly. I enjoyed watching Alfie and Sophie’s characters interact and follow along as things moved both according to Alfie’s plan – and not according to his plans too. I felt the best part was the slow burn building between them. Particularly since Sophie had no idea just how thoroughly Alfie already knew her, I would have found it too unrealistic had she simply taken one look into his eyes and dropped her pants – Sophie just isn’t that sort of character. But watching them get closer – watching Alfie having to wait and maneuver delicately – was fun and helped show me just how well these two could finally work together as a romantic couple.

The fact it was a slow-burn and not a crazy, red-hot insta-love really helped sell the relationship – and thus the whole story – to me. I really liked this and feel it was exceptionally well handled by the author. The sex was hot and steamy and sure to appeal to readers who like their sex explicit and just a very little bit dirty. Alfie has lusted after Sophie for so long when they finally manage to consummate their relationship he can’t hold himself back any longer.

Readers should pay strong attention to the stalkerish/controlling hero warning but I’m personally pleased I gave this story a shot. I found it to be a fun, loving and interesting story that because of the characters read as quite fresh and different to me. I enjoyed Alfie and Sophia’s characters and was thrilled to see Alfie finally get his woman.

Sam Crescent does it again with The Biker’s Desire, the sixth book in her fabulous Curvy Women Wanted series.

I loved the characters in this one. Rock took me by surprise. For a big bad biker he was really sweet and funny. The best thing about Rock was how he wasn’t afraid to show his feelings for Adele. Now, I always end up falling in love with the, let’s just call them anti heroes, that Sam Crescent brings to life in her books. Let’s face it, though. Most of them get off to a rocky start, but not so much with Rock. I fell in love with him on the first page. He really was my dream man. Adele was great too. She started off as a strong woman and remained that way for the entire story. I like it when the heroine knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to say it.

I loved how richly the characters were described in this book. It helped to give them life in my imagination. Sam Crescent kept the drama low in this well put together plot with only a few tense moments in the plot. I liked that aspect since it left more pages for the sexy times that this author happens to write so well. It’s a hot story that was engaging and very well written, as well.

A job as a cop, a lover, and a great future. That was six months ago. Now she has a scarred face, no job, and has lived through betrayal. Her only choice is to head for the hills when a drug lord comes after her. If not, others could get hurt.

Connor doesn’t fit in with his wolf pack and his scars mean he has never found a mate. Rosie could be that mate or she could be the death of him.

Six months ago Rosie had been enjoying her life – a good job as a cop, a lover and a bright-looking future. Now, about to leave her apartment and go into hiding, the only good thing in Rosie’s life was the orgasms she had while she slept and dreamed of her imaginary lover, a stud who was scarred same as her. When Rosie escapes to a small log-cabin in the middle of nowhere, she never expected to meet six-foot tall handsome stud Connor, who has scars – and secrets – of his own.

I found this to be an interesting and slightly different take on the usual “man meets woman in a cabin in the middle of the woods” style of story. I admit I was expecting quite the cliché and was delightfully surprised. Rosie might have her own baggage and problems, but is determined (and not in a pig-headed manner either) to rely on herself to fix them. Connor carries his scars (internal and external) but doesn’t wallow in pity or act over-aggressive to compensate for them. Indeed, considering their genuine problems, I was impressed with how well-adjusted both Rosie and Connor were. It helped me really relax and enjoy their story and quite early on I was thoroughly invested in them both together as a couple and individually as characters too. That made reading this story both a delight and a pleasure.

I loved how despite being determined to solve her own problems, Rosie was mature and sensible enough to know when to ask for help. I loved how Connor knew that despite them being mates that imprinting himself on Rosie before they got to know each other wouldn’t go down well – and I was even more impressed how while he acknowledged these things his wolf-self couldn’t help but imprint on her anyway. I found it just so refreshing that Connor and Rosie both were just so sensible and realistic – it let me enjoy the plot and paranormal world the author had built without wanting to roll my eyes or disconnect my brain and “just roll with it”. My only real complaint was I noticed quite a few typo’s throughout the story and felt the editing could have been a bit tighter (“bate” instead of “bait”, “branched” instead of “branch”, “t-towel” instead of “tea-towel” and few more on top of that).

Readers looking for an interesting and somewhat different style of werewolf romance will likely be pleased with this short story. The sex is steamy, the characters complex and fresh and the pacing goes along at a good clip. I found this to be a fun and well-written tale.

I was captivated with this fourth book in the Denton Family Legacy. Sam Crescent did a good job in spinning this page turning story.

There was a lot happening in this romantic but lively plot that kept my attention. Damian Denton had been spiralling downward since the mother of his child took her own life in a previous book. All of that changed when he met Mia and fell in love with her on the spot. This book also found the Denton family in turmoil and facing the biggest trial of the series, so far. The story was sexy and super suspenseful with some big twists for the series. There was a lot of dialogue from Gabriel and Gideon and even Uncle Rick who turned out to be an actual bad arse. I can’t wait to see who gets the next book!

He’s exactly what she should avoid.

When tragedy strikes, he is reminded that life is too short not to go after what he wants—and he wants her.

But maybe he’s also what she needs.

A dark past, filled with regret and treachery haunts Tash, but she can’t fight the desire she feels each time her eyes lock with Kayden’s. When she gets the chance to anonymously sample him, she hopes that one masked taste will be enough to satisfy her…but the single-minded detective has other plans.

New in town, Tash let herself get talked into attending the Halloween masquerade party. There, she found herself seriously attracted to one Detective Kayden Langford. Saved when his phone rang, Tash managed to avoid Kayden until she found herself reluctantly going to his New Year’s Eve party. This time, Kayden won’t allow anything to distract him.

This is a fun short story. While I admit I was a little puzzled as to how strongly Tash thought her back-tattoo would cause her an insurmountable social stigma (it’s set in Australia and I don’t believe the country is *that* backwards – tons of Aussie’s have tattoos after all). Even so, I could sort-of understand the whole “small town mentality” thing. I also found Tash’s frequent musings on her past and particularly her ex, Connor, a little mood-breaking. I felt a lot of sympathy for Tash and how much Connor had hurt her, but I struggled to understand why she still thought of him so very much when I felt it was clear Tash was trying really hard to move on and start her life afresh – these two things seemed contradictory to me and I found myself slightly impatient that Tash couldn’t seem to let her ex go, mentally.

I have to admit though, once Tash and Kayden finally get into gear together the story really lifted and I enjoyed it a lot. I giggled when the plot veered into a modern-day-twist to Cinderella and I honestly am always a sucker for a masquerade ball plotline. I enjoyed the second half of this story a lot more than the first half and I feel readers should stick with it to reap the rewards.

Overall I found this a quick, easy to read story. Apart from a few bumps with Tash’s character and some puzzling moments about the plot I found this to be a fun, sexy story and I was thrilled when Kayden and Tash got together and decided to give their romance a real go. With a lovely happy ending this had a great finish and I was pleased I had kept reading along.

The Theme’s the Thing ~ Keeping It Blue with @MeganSlayer #writing #themes #authorthemes

When I started writing, I was told I needed a theme. Not just a general idea for what I wanted my author overall image to be, but a theme. I know, sounds confusing, doesn’t it? A very wise friend told me as I was setting out, I needed to have something that said, this is Megan Slayer every time someone saw it. Why’d she question my theme? Because back then I had a picture of racing on my blog. The photo was right at the top and to the right. It totally went with my passion, but had only a little to do with my writing because at the time, I’d only written two stories and neither had racing in them. So I set out to create a theme.

I had a few fits and stalls along the way. I knew what I wanted to write–second chance romance. A lot of authors write that. So what made mine different? Back when I started, the heat level was the thing, too. The hotter the better. But heat levels then and now are totally different. What was HAWT back then is hot now. What was ‘oh-my-gosh-scorching-the-page-gonna-melt-the-screen’ hot is now HAWT. Back then, there was dark erotic romance, but not as prevalent as now. So my initial theme of HAWT second chance romance is still viable, but the heat isn’t as hot as I once thought.

I’m still all about my second chance romance. I’ve always had a soft spot for characters who had a rough start in life or whose initial romance didn’t quite work. I want them to have happy endings. Sometimes it’s with the same people and most of the time with new people. When you pick up one of my stories, there will be a second chance romance in it.

But I’ve got another theme I hadn’t planned on. Pretty much from the start of my career as an author, I’ve had blue hair. Why? I wanted something fun to do with my hair and it covered the grays nicely. Plus…it was fun. Still is, to be honest. It’s been brighter at times and more muted at others, but it’s always been blue. Okay, there was that one patch where I had it red for a while… And you know what? People didn’t like it. They wanted the blue back. Craziness, right? Not really. They identified me with the blue hair. That’s you, they’d tell me. When I think of you, I think of Blue. Pretty nice, eh? I love it.

I had thought about a logo, but I’m not sold on one and how do you make a logo concerning blue or second chance romance? I’m not sure.

But I’ll keep plugging along. I’ll stick with the blue hair and the second chance romances. Why? They make my heart happy. The characters demand their happy ending and I’m not going to argue with them. If people think of me and think blue, then that’s great with me, too. I like to have fun. What about you? How do you see me?

The more I had of her, the more I wanted.

This was a very satisfying read for me. I always like books with children in it and I love to read about adults falling in love.

It has been some time since I read a fake fiance romance novel. What made this different was the relationship and interactions between the main characters. This could be counted as ‘lust at first sight’ type of book. The first meeting of the main characters gave me an idea of how their chemistry and attraction would be and I liked it.

The hero is a biker turned entrepreneur/owner of the Garage/Bike Shop. He has a daughter he is trying to get back. The fast pacing of the book kept me in my seat and I had to know what would happen next!

Through this fake fiance agreement, Zoe and Beau get to know each other more and learn their likes and dislikes. A good story comes with baggage and both of them have it. They balance each other out and make a great couple with a chemistry so hot that it made me want to dunk myself in a bucket of water. Did I mention there is a box of toys involved? I don’t mean kid toys! If you’re a reader just venturing into the BDSM genre, then this book might be what you want.

My only quibble? I wanted more of the story! I got so engrossed, I didn’t want it to end. I really liked this book.

Ace might be covered in ink and own a tattoo parlour, but there was more to him than a first glance might convey. Trixie had known Ace in high school – but her life had been pretty planned out for her. It wasn’t till it had come crumbling down that Trixie had really understood what was important, and she’d returned to Ace. When Trixie and Ace finally confess their feelings to each other will it be the end? Or a new beginning?

I found this to be a sexy and fun short story. Trixie is the fairly common good-girl-trying-to-turn bad type of character. It’s no surprise, therefore that she’s decided to finally act upon her very long-time crush on bad-boy-with-heart-of-gold Ace. While I feel this story flirted a little too closely with the traditional stereotypes, the author did a good job of injecting plenty of life into Trixie and Ace’s characters. While at another author’s hands this probably would have come across as “just another…” type of sexy short story, I actually found myself really caring about Ace – and to a lesser extent Trixie. Admittedly while describing the story in generalities it seems very similar to a bunch of other stories, I enjoyed the voice of the characters and found myself wanting to know how everything turned out.

In no way did this plot – or even the hot sex scenes – read as unique or ground-breaking, but despite this I did enjoy the freshness of the author’s tone and the quick pace helped me keep turning the pages, interested in where Trixie and Ace would lead next. Readers looking for a fresh new take on this style of story might be disappointed, but for a quick, sexy and fun read this story ticked a number of the boxes for me and I truly did enjoy it. With a lovely happy ending and plenty of smoking hot sex this is a fun short story.

This is a fast-paced short story that had a good plot and some complex, interesting characters. It took me a little while to get used to the head-jumping – the chapters are split up a few times to swap between Max and Lily’s perspectives. As both characters talked in the first-person I felt this made the jumps from one perspective to the other a little harder to navigate and made it feel a bit choppy to me – swapping around back and forth. While I found this wasn’t to my personal tastes as a good method of story-telling, I did get a little more used to it by the end of the story, and I have to admit I did enjoy understanding exactly where Max and Lily were both coming from.

I also wasn’t too sure about the speed with which Max and Lily consummated their attraction. Both characters have a lot of baggage – Max from the war and his scars, Lily from events that happened while she was infiltrating the cult. On the one hand, as an erotic romance I fully understand the author needed to add the sexy action and couldn’t leave it till a last-minute after-thought. But considering the weight both characters carried – particularly Lily in a sexual sense after her near-miss in the cult – I couldn’t help but feel it rather unrealistic that they both shed all inhibitions and baggage and happily jumped into bed together extremely quickly. I fully believed the attraction and the chemistry between Lily and Max – I thought that was written fantastically, and I can understand that an erotic romance needs erotic love scenes, but I couldn’t help but feel like the speed of the sex scenes were just too much, too soon, considering all the other elements swirling around.

I really enjoyed the plot. I found it multi-layered and the small twist about half way through was unexpected for me and I felt it was a great extra layer. I didn’t really understand why Lily kept it a secret – the hurried explanation Lily gave Max didn’t seem very logical or convincing to me, but honestly by that stage of the story I had pretty much disconnected my brain and I was just rolling with it all – enjoying the hell out of the ride.

For a fast-paced, sexy short story with plenty of plot and an interesting new shifter world I found this to be a lot of fun. I’d recommend this story as the sort to be a guilty indulgence on a quiet night. Throw logic and sense out of the window, sit back with a glass of wine and some nibbles and just enjoy the sexy fun.

Kaliana Cole added another great Liberty Springs novel with The One That Got Away.

This book had everything! It was easy to get pulled into the mystery of this plot. A real romance had been brewing between Andy and Marley for a long time. Just when the future was finally looking bright for the couple it became obvious that someone was still out to get Marley. That’s when Andy had to take charge like the true alpha male he has been all along. Now, let me tell you, Kaliana Cole knows how to write a red hot love scene or two.

This book was right up my alley. It was exceptionally well written and loaded with a fast paced romance, exciting mystery, and some big surprises for everyone in the Liberty Springs world. Andy and Marley had plenty of emotional depth and like the previous couples in this kinky series there were a few BDSM scenes. This book also closed a long running thread about one Liberty Springs troublemaker while at the same time catching my interest with a couple of intriguing characters that I am hopeful will be getting their very own books.

I really enjoyed reading The One That Got Away and look forward to whatever comes next from this author.
