His research has deemed them a good cause but the main draw is meeting the fascinating researcher. Challenged, he’s determined to show that he has knowledge as well as skills he’s more than willing to share with her. In and out of bed.

But will Lily let him?

Lily loved her work at the Antarctica station. Sure, there was endless ice and cold, but Lily could see the beauty in the multiple hues of blue and white. And in the between-seasons, when there was just a skeletal crew and little need to share her equipment, Lily could get a ton of her work done. When the site manager explains just how dire their funding situation is though, and pleads with Lily to woo a potential patron, Lily reluctantly agrees to show Kieran around her beloved station.

I found this to be a fun and sensual story. I loved how Lily and Kieran didn’t just jump straight into bed, but spent a little time together, exploring their chemistry and having some fun. I thought the author did a good job showing the reader some of the more sensual side’s to Lily and Kieran’s characters. Lily, in particular, started out to me as a fairly straight-laced scientist, interested in her research and determined to be more focused on data and what she could prove, rather than revel in the sensual woman hiding deep inside her. Watching Lily open up, and allow Kieran to bring that more feminine side to her personality out was lovely and really helped sell the story as a whole to me.

Kieran was a little two-dimensional for me, far more than just a handsome playboy, but I didn’t get as good a feel for his character as I did Lily, which I felt was a bit of a shame. When Lily and Kieran finally came together though, the chemistry and attraction between them – which had simmered nicely for the first half of the story – really exploded and I loved watching them both relish and indulge in their sexuality. The story then moved on from a steamy, sensual style of story to a strongly erotic one and I loved their sizzle on the page.

Sensual and steamily written, this is a really lovely short story. I loved the science aspects to it – both from Lily and Kieran’s perspectives – and found the setting of Antarctica both exotic and interestingly written. With strong characters and a good plot this story checked a whole bunch of boxes and was a good read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

After living for years in the city, Dwayne is finally ready to settle down. He’s bought a house, is happy renovating it and ready to find a special woman. When he meets the Fire Chief’s daughter, he knows it would be crazy to hook up with her, but with curves in all the right places and the heat in her eyes as he poses for her calendar photos Dwayne simply can’t resist.

I really enjoyed this story – finding it spicy and sweetly romantic. Blair is pretty reticent at first, having had her heart broken in the past and also having a personal rule to never date the firemen who work under her father. Dwayne knows exactly what he wants though – and Blair fulfills every one of his needs. He’s determined and patient and more than willing to wear her down and wait for her to come around. After numerous meetings in the small town, a little help from Dwayne’s friend and Blair’s daddy she finally agrees to go out with him a few times.

I was a little disappointed that Blair remained fairly oblivious about Dwayne and his feelings. Dwayne made no secret of the fact he was seriously into Blair and while nothing was stated explicitly I truly feel like he also made it crystal clear that he wasn’t just fooling around or “having fun” as Blair continually stated. I thought the seriousness Dwayne felt for Blair was clear to see, so Blair frequently insisting they were just “having fun” and “not dating” etc started to grate on me a little. I sort of got where she was coming from – having been really hurt in the past – but I couldn’t help feeling that her blindness when it came to this matter made her seem silly and foolish, not just understandably trying to protect her heart.

This was my only real problem with the story though. I loved the pacing – slow enough that I got a good feel for both Blair and Dwayne’s characters and also slow enough that the building of their relationship felt realistic and stable, but neither did it drag on – the author walked a great balance I felt between slow and fast. The sex was hot and spicy and with just a bit of dirty talk and fire between the two characters it absolutely ticked the “erotic romance” box for me, personally. Again I felt the author made the sex edgy and dirty enough to titillate but didn’t push the envelope and possibly risk offending some readers. I thought this was really well handled.

A fiery and spicy read with strong, believable and realistic characters and a lovely slow burn to the relationship I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can happily recommend it to other readers.

I thought Patrice and Kai were interesting characters and felt a small pang that the short length of the story didn’t really allow us to get to know them much better. Despite this I found myself invested in their story and happiness and was very pleased to see them get their happy ending.

When Lucas catches up with paleontologist, Olivia, though, he’s shocked to discover they have most certainly met before.

I really enjoyed this story – how it turned the tables on the usual “love ‘em and leave ‘em” style of man. This time it was Lucas who had been thoroughly bedded and left by Olivia. This really appealed to me and I could even accept the super-fast speed they took the sexual aspect of their relationship. Because of their past it didn’t seem too much of a stretch to me that Lucas and Olivia almost literally took one look at each other and immediately went for it.

While this near-immediate jumping into bed helps keep the sexiness level steaming for such a short length story, I really would have liked a little bit more depth to the conclusion. I was left with a bunch of questions – did Lucas’ explanation satisfy Olivia’s father? What happened with the dinosaurs? Did Olivia get the credit her discovery deserved? It didn’t appear to me that this was the first book in a series (or serial) and so having a number of unanswered questions was a little unappealing for me, personally, but this proved the story certainly drew me in!

There was a definite “happy for now” feel to the ending but I really did feel like much of the rest of the story was only really a vignette sort of snapshot, not a whole, completed story in and of itself. The romance aspect was definitely given the majority of the focus, but when I reached the last page – having so many questions still remaining for me made me feel as if the non-romantic parts of the story were just padding and not really given the justice they deserved.

That said I really enjoyed both Lucas’ and Olivia’s characters. I found Olivia a strong character and determined to get her way – not some pampered princess as originally alluded to Lucas by her father. I also found Lucas to be a strong and capable character and a good hero in my eyes. Their chemistry and attraction really sold the story for me and I enjoyed it – even with the lingering questions.

A quick and steamy read, this was a fun short story.

Sandy McLeod has been perfectly happy in her D/s relationship with her husband Zane for the last ten years. Until his old army buddy re-enters their life.

Sean Manson is altogether too handsome, too virile, far too much of anything. The man oozes dominance, danger, and leashed aggression, and Sandy can’t help but respond to him. Neither can Zane. Sean never meant to come between husband and wife, let alone hurt either one of them. Surely, the only solution is to walk away from them both. When you’re the missing piece, however, walking is simply not an option.

If two’s company, can adding a third make them more or will it destroy them all?

This short story starts and ends on very similar, really hot notes. This isn’t a slow building heat, it’s an atomic explosion that had my e-reader smoking at the edges. That can be a good thing, because, yes, it grabbed my attention quick but, it can also be a not so good thing. It’s not that the heat ever really dies down, tho there is a situation that happens that banks it for a bit, it’s that it feels like the author took a small chunk of the characters relationship and only shared that teaser. Again, super hot teaser, but teaser non the less.

The story is good. Sandy and Zane are seemingly happily married but she begins to suspect that something is off. It’s not until she meets Zane’s bit of history, in the form of dominant, Sean Manson, that she sees that it isn’t just off, something (or rather someone) is missing. Sean comes with some baggage that felt very realistic and heartbreaking. I liked Sandy’s response to his condition and Zane, bless his heart, is torn between the two people he both loves and desires.

The author has so much potential in this short to expound of their story. I wanted to see and feel the connection between Zane and Sean, prior to Sandy entering the picture. They seemed to be so close and then Zane meets Sandy, is married for ten years and then Sean re-enters the picture. The author explains where he was but I’d like to know how he and Zane were coping without each other. Maybe this story is supposed to simply highlight the culmination of them not being able to deny themselves any longer but also how Zane has desire and love for his wife as well. It’s complicated but I thought the author did a good job of giving them their story.

There are a few grammar issues that could be corrected in a future re-release. Major, in that the heroes names are switched at one point (says Sean and should have been Zane) and then another place where incorrect pronouns are used. Not story killers by any means but worth fixing if the book is updated or expanded on later. I enjoyed this story and wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another book by Ms. O’Connor. She has a good grasp on the D/s lifestyle.

I appreciated that this story gives voices to retired military and what problems often stay with them long after they separate. That was realistically depicted and discussed both honestly and respectfully. An easy recommend.

But miracles do happen and men can come to their senses. Will Elliot follow his heart? Can Celeste learn to forgive so they can have their happily ever after?

Elliot and Celeste had only shared the briefest of connections before she’d gone off to start a new job. When she turns up pregnant Elliot knows she’s trying to trap him, that the child couldn’t possibly be his. Not because condoms are infallible, but because he’s sterile. Or so he thought. Can Celeste convince Elliot the baby really is his, and can Elliot begin to trust Celeste when he’s never been able to trust a woman before?

This is an emotional story that I did enjoy, but I found the plot a little over-complicated. For such a short length I really felt the author struggled to do the depth of the issues justice and the main casualty from my perspective was the attraction and chemistry between Elliot and Celeste. After a one night stand it was quite a stretch for me to believe that Elliot and Celeste made such an impression on each other that they could fall in love in the space of a few short conversations together. Further hampering their chemistry and my belief in their attraction was the first half of the story was filled with mountains of baggage, distrust and conflict brewing between them. Elliot genuinely believed he was infertile so he instantly dismissed Celeste’s insistence the baby was his. And despite Celeste outwardly appearing to understand Elliot wouldn’t instantly propose or declare his undying love to her and the baby – she sure acted to my mind as if that had been what her heart wanted when she told Elliot about the baby.

Add in a number of secondary characters who all added their two cents – Celeste’s sister and best friend and a friend of Elliot’s too – and for a 44 page short story there really was an awful lot happening all on top of itself and I really feel this detracted away from the romance between Celeste and Elliot. There is a fairly brief sexy scene right near the end, but it was a little short and late to help cement the believability of Celeste and Elliot’s relationship to me.

I can’t fault the meatiness of the plot – the author managed to jam pack a huge amount of stuff into the short story, but personally I would have enjoyed this story a great deal more had there been one or two aspects of the plot and a lot more focus on Celeste and Elliot building their trust and starting their relationship – that part really felt rushed to me. For me personally, the building of trust, the starting of Elliot and Celeste’s relationship – and in particular the story of their romance – was what I wanted to read, even above all the other plots and conflict.

While the slightly old-fashioned style of plot (a one night stand turns into a pregnancy) might not appeal to all readers, I feel the author managed to cram a lot of plot and a fair bit of a modern twist onto the story as a whole. There is a bit of sexy action toward the end that should appeal to readers who like some sizzle in their romance and the writing pace is fast so this short story can be quickly and easily read and enjoyed.

Candace Lake’s testimony against her father landed her in the Witness Protection program. With a new identity comes a new beginning, one based on lies and loneliness. How can she find someone to share her future with when a relationship without trust at its foundation won’t stand the storms of life?

Tom Berkley didn’t expect his new tenant to make him question his solitary lifestyle in the backwoods of Maine. He also didn’t expect to be caught up in the secrets of her past that bring his own tragic ones to the forefront of his mind.

The sizzling chemistry between them can’t be ignored, but when the threats from Candace’s turbulent past catch up with her, can she trust Tom enough to protect her from the price on her head?

After Lila had turned state’s evidence, helping put her father in jail so her own sentence would be more lenient, she’d gone into Witness Protection and left everything of meaning in her life behind. Choosing her new name and deciding to start again in Maine, Lila wasn’t keen to have the rest of her life revolve around lies, but she had no choice. Tom is an ex-SEAL and enjoys his farm and quiet life. He’s initially reluctant to have Lila – now Candace – on his property but he figures it’ll only be for a few months till she gets her feet solidly under herself and then she’ll move on. The fact she stirs his blood unlike anyone else is just a minor annoyance he needs to overcome. While their attraction grows they both have secrets and lies that become harder and harder to keep.

I found this to be an enjoyable story. Lila (who is referred to as Candace once she takes on that new identity) was a deep and complex character, which absolutely thrilled me. An only child in an exceedingly close-knit family with her mother and father I got the strong impression Lila was protected and spoiled and her life before the story was smooth, clear sailing. I was pleased she genuinely had no idea of her father’s criminal activities (I think I’d have found it vastly more difficult to enjoy or like Lila had she been a knowing participant in that) and while it was selfish of her to sell her dad and most of his partners in crime up the river to lessen her own sentence and gain access to witness protection I can certainly understand why she did it and I couldn’t fault her for her actions.

With her whole world turned upside down – and having to leave all that behind her – I actually came to really enjoy Candace. Now, obviously, Lila and Candace are the same person – just different facets of the true character/person Lila/Candace is, but Candace is someone who I can see myself being friends with – a modern woman learning her own independence, teaching herself to cook and do a grocery run, searching for a job and opening a bank account, lusting after her hot, ripped neighbor. Despite the lies surrounding Candace’s past, Candace was someone I genuinely could see myself being friendly with. Candace struck me as the quintessential girl-next-door, with a real life and real problems and plenty of secrets and a past.

I felt the pacing of the story was really good – not too fast and not too slow – but I also found the plotting exceptional. Tom’s knowing/guessing much about Candace’s past was intelligent and some exceptional writing. It also solved the problem (and my only twinge of concern when picking up the book) about how to get around Candace uttering lie after lie of her history and past. I usually am not a fan of stories where the entire relationship is built on a stack of lies (even for a good cause – like Witness Protection), but I found the author did a brilliant job of keeping the story real but also giving a fresh (to me, at least) reasoning behind why Tom wasn’t duped and went into the relationship with Candace with his eyes wide open. I *loved* this aspect of the story and it was like the final piece of the puzzle clicking into place for me, no worry and concern about Tom reacting to being duped, no guilt and baggage for Candace feeling like she had to build her relationship (as well as her new life) based on endless lies. It was glorious and I’d rate this easily the best style of story like this that I’ve read in years.

And of course the sex is steamy hot. Like any modern woman having to start again from scratch with a deliciously hot ex-SEAL literally on her doorstep, the eye candy alone would be worth the price of admission. My only tiny disappointment was that it was mostly chemistry building up between Candace and Tom throughout the story. While they both do eventually come together and cement their relationship in a sexual sense this is right at the end of the story. I loved the fact the plot, character growth and increasing tension was so well written and such a large part of the story-line, but readers looking for a strongly erotic, sexual story might find this one aspect slightly lacking. When the climax was reached, however, it made the wait – and explosive chemistry between Candace and Tom – worthwhile to my mind.

A well plotted, character-centric story with plenty of steam and chemistry, this was a great read and one I can highly recommend.

Clint’s best friend, Beth, had introduced him to Chrissy. Clint was in his last term before graduating, and he was determined to focus on his studies, but he just couldn’t manage to get Chrissy out of his head. Clint and Chrissy were thinking that things were really going somewhere when Chrissy had to leave suddenly due to a family illness. It’s years later when they finally cross paths again. Will past hurts keep them separate? Or can they finally build something beautiful together?

I found this to be an interesting and fun short story. I really liked both Clint and Chrissy’s characters – particularly Chrissy’s timidness and book-ish manner. I found it refreshing that Chrissy managed to be both a modern woman, but not overly bold or brazen. I wasn’t keen on the abruptness of the two paragraph explanation that Chrissy suddenly went home due to her mother being ill. It made the “college” section of Chrissy and Clint getting to know each other and the jump forward ten years in time to them actually starting a relationship quite jarring and I thought it derailed the smoothness of the story somewhat.

That said, I ended up kind of thinking about the book in two different parts “college time” and “grown up” life. While I wish the segue between the two had been a bit smoother and better-described, the two parts themselves were great. I found this to mostly be a character-driven storyline/plot, as in the attraction, then beginning of the relationship between Clint and Chrissy is the driving force of what the story is about. I enjoyed the secondary characters – Beth and Zac – and found them to be both interesting and multi-layered, not simply there to add the requisite “friend” to the storyline. Indeed, a part of me hopes there might be a story revolved around Beth some time in the future as there was a slight hint at her new career and “grown up” life that could prove interesting.

With a lovely happy ending and a really good, warm feeling I loved the wrap up to this story too. The sex – while hot, wasn’t envelope-pushing or extreme. I feel most romance readers who like a bit of spice in their story should find this book overall really good and happy. As a quick read it’s a great one for picking up when you don’t have a lot of time and I’d happily try more works by this author.

Boy, oh, boy this is a hot story.

I love the work of Katy Swann, so I knew I was in for a treat. The story flowed well, there were twists I wasn’t expecting and have I mentioned the hot factor?

This isn’t a story for the faint of heart. If you’re new to the BDSM genre, this one might be a bit of a shocker, but in a good way. I loved the chemistry between Sami and Jet, even when she hated him. I felt the trust and devotion, too.

As I said, there are twists to this story. It’s more than it seems and I’m glad. If you’re ready for kink, some heat and a good story to go with it, then this is the book for you.
