Imagine a world gone dark, where humans are now the lowest on the food chain. This is the world Rachel is living in. With one bad choice following another, she ends up in The Refuge, which appears to be anything but.

This isn’t the first book by this author I have read, but it’s the first one that travels at the speed of light. The pacing is very fast, and for that reason, I found myself unable to relate to the characters or situations as much as I would do normally. The writing and storyline are still very good, but I just felt lost a few times, when the situation changed suddenly, or the characters professed their love with no real build-up.

This is the first book in a new series and I would definitely like to see where Ms. Zwaduk will take it next.

With a vengeful enemy hunting her down, she can’t afford to bring anyone into her world, so she is none too pleased when she awakens in a cell along with Marc, a human who stirs feelings she both fears and longs for.

Marc has no idea what he’s getting himself into, but one thing’s for certain—Ava is in danger. While he pushes her to reunite with her estranged family, the desire between them is far too hot and the emotions binding them far too great for either of them to ignore. They may come from two different worlds, but Marc will march through hell and back in order to protect and claim Ava as his own.

Enter a world where vampires are split into four categories, each with their own abilities. Where shifters go through the Change in a number of weeks, not instantaneously. This is the world where we meet Ava and Marc. It starts off simple enough, but we soon get into a story that also has mystery and intrigue too. Ava was left all alone after she left her family, thinking she was doing the right thing. They have searched for her for many years, but so have others.

The attraction between Marc and Ava has been bubbling between them since Marc first entered the place where Ava worked. Once he gets involved in her world, that attraction is on fire! They only have a couple of steamy moments before the story takes over, but there is a constant pull between them.

Ava’s brothers are the rest of the series (I’m presuming for reasons given in the story), and they are each different from the others, and interesting in their own ways.

There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading, and the pace was smooth. You are definitely left with more questions than answers, needing the next book in the series.

For a quick-witted story with twists and turns of the paranormal sort, then I can definitely recommend this book.

One day she’d be his.

Almost a decade ago, Marcus Grimes worked as a bodyguard to a man who didn’t deserve the woman he’d had. When she finally left, Marcus vowed to eventually find her and make her his.

The time is now.

Marcus runs into Gabi at a BDSM club, indulging in a different partner every week but never really exploring beyond the mere superficial. She doesn’t remember him, and he convinces her to give him a chance.

All she has to do is open.

After leaving an abusive relationship, Gabi moved cities and reinvented herself. Now, she’s confident and capable of playing with any Dom she sees fit without compromising herself or her emotions.

Until she meets Marcus Grimes.

There is something familiar about him, which should have stopped her, but instead spurs her on, and before she realizes it, Marcus is not only opening her body to his exploration, he’s also delving into her heart.

However, when their mutual past comes to light and everything she’s fought for during the last eight years is jeopardized, will she close herself off again or will she give love an opportunity?

Marcus had known Gabi many years ago. When he bumps into her at a BDSM club he finds that the young, vulnerable woman he had known had grown up into a sleek and savvy adult. Gabi was open to trying pretty much anything, but she never went back to the same Dom more than once. Marcus was determined to be the one to change that.

This is a sexy and interesting short story. I enjoyed how Gabi and Marcus had a history but that instead of it being weighty and acting like baggage between them it acted more like incentive for Marcus to be possessive and protective of Gabi. The plot between them felt fresh to me and not contrived – I liked how Gabi took a while to recognize Marcus from their short interaction a number of years ago as this added a bit of tension to the plot that gave it a boost to my mind.

There’s a lot of sizzle between Gabi and Marcus. Personally, I found the tug of control between them – Marcus being a Dominant and Gabi being very well-versed in the lifestyle and trapping of the BDSM world – interesting and an excellent plot throughout the whole story. The depth of Gabi’s knowledge though, and her experience in knowing exactly how to (nicely) manipulate Doms to do what she wants without making it appear so might not be a comfortable read for everyone. I enjoyed this very different viewpoint and enjoyed the story for it – but Gabi is not at all like your average submissive and the tension and struggle between her and Marcus mightn’t be to everyone’s tastes.

I also personally really enjoyed that they didn’t jump right into bed. A very large part of Gabi’s power was her willingness to submit in scenes and use her body to get what she wanted. Note Gabi didn’t often use her body sexually, but the power and pull of her submission and allure to men. Had she and Marcus jumped quickly into bed I feel Gabi could have easily buttonholed Marcus in with all the other Doms she’d been with and their relationship wouldn’t have ever got off the ground in a realistic manner. So I was glad that while there was plenty of sexual chemistry and tension, it was only in the latter half of the story that they became intimate. The sex, when they got there, was hot and explicit and I felt just kinky enough to appeal to readers who enjoy some BDSM in their erotica.

A different and interesting read, I enjoyed this story.

I loved this space age twist on the classic fairytale, and I also loved our main characters. They are real, they have pasts, they hurt, and they love. Alivia is an innocent, in more ways than the obvious, but she doesn’t remain that way for long. Ronan and Noah balance each other out perfectly, and they have a very honest relationship, which is always a good thing.

The pacing was smooth, with no plot holes that I fell through. There is a great range of characters that I would love to know more about – all apart from poor Pops!

Full of intrigue, betrayal, decisions, and responsibilities, this was a brilliant book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended.

I found this to be a fun and sexy short story. I enjoyed how even with things turn pear-shaped for Jae she didn’t get down on herself or let the bad situation ruin her efforts and mood. I found her reactions modern and relatable – determined to do things herself and do her best and her attitude was mostly positive, despite the specter of her horrid ex-boyfriend hovering for a while.

I also enjoyed how the romance built quickly between Jae and Hanson. While Jae didn’t just jump into Hanson’s arms – she had a few perfectly natural doubts and questions about getting intimate with a virtual stranger – the chemistry and discussion between the two soon put them both at ease and the sizzle between them turned erotic. I can understand this might be very fast for some readers – but with the short length of the story and the impulse of the moment I feel the author did a really good job with the parameters given. I also thought the chemistry and desire between Jae and Hanson was believable and well written.

Steamy and adventurous, I enjoyed this quick short story. While I feel the story had more of a Happy For Now style of ending than a more traditional Happy Ever After overall I found it fun, light and a sexy read.

When Neve enters Arcanium, her six-month marriage is already on the rocks, in part because of her complete lack of interest in sex. However, after making a frustrated wish in front of the fortune teller, she seethes with sexual desire that calls the Arcanium strongman straight into her bed and pulls her into the circus and under its jinni owner’s thumb.

Neve is unprepared for the onslaught of lust coming at her from every side—from the sex demons that charge the circus with excruciating sexual tension to her exhibit in the haunted funhouse, where hands stroke her sensitized skin for hours on end without relief. What’s worse, the jinni has more insidious plans for her in the secret Funhouse, private esoteric events where Arcanium can go as far as it wants.

But after a lifetime of combating men’s objectification of her, fighting to be seen as a person rather than as something to seduce, her new raging libido and the impulses that accompany it make the effort all the more difficult. Among the free-spirited and tempting cast of Arcanium, Neve struggles to determine what she’s willing to become.

Neve has lived her life free from the effects of sex and want but one simple misplaced wish brings her into the Arcanium circus. Bell has given her a gift or what one would call a curse and Mikhail is the true man that can help her, but Neve is not so ready to give in to her body’s wants and needs. As Neve finds her place in the circus it seems there are others out there like Bell that have taken notice of her. What will become of Neve and will she survive what Bell has given to her?

Neve’s story is another engaging tale in the Arcanium series. This story revolves around a young lady who never felt any want or need for sex and is given just the opposite from Bell, now sex is all Neve can think about and she is never satisfied. We are along for the ride as Neve tries to learn to control her needs. I really liked Neve she is a smart woman that is not afraid to stand up for herself. She takes what has been done to her and deals with it. Mikhail is a good man but has to do what he must to live and he tries hard to give Neve the space that she needs as she comes to terms with what has happened. I enjoyed seeing the other side of Mikhail and beginning to see what kind of man he truly is.

As Neve learns the ins and outs of the circus we also get to see more from the other inhabitants and their relationships. As Neve begins to settle in as much as one can into the circus readers get to see more of what is going on in it. Bell has his reasons for doing things the way he does but he is not sharing, and it is costing him much. We watch as time and time again Bell hurts people without realizing how much pain it costs and soon it may end up costing Bell. Once again it seems that there is another with powers like Bell that has taken an interest in the circus players and I am eager to see where the author will take this plot line in future books. This is only the beginning of Neve’s story and it does contain some explicit scenes, even one containing tentacles. If you are easily offended this is not a story for you but if you are like me and love a great story full of strong characters and on the risqué side this is one you will enjoy. The author has done a great job keeping this series fresh with each new cast member. Funhouse is a great addition to the Arcanium series

Beth’s life had turned complicated. She’d learned after her father died that he owed the local mob boss a huge amount of money and she was going to be forced to pay it back one way or another. Wanting nothing more than to pay off the debt quickly and leave town for good, Beth reluctantly agrees to the craziest scheme ever – assisting to rob an armoured truck. Only, everything goes wrong and David, a wolf shifter, knows Beth needs his help. Can the two of them survive?

Fast paced and sexy, I found this to be a good, quick read. I connected with both Beth and David’s characters, finding them both modern and relatable. While the situation Beth finds herself in – owing a mob boss fifty thousand dollars carried on from her father’s previous debt – is a little over-the-top, I can understand how things like this do happen and the quick and crazy way her life spirals out of her control is also well-written and logical. I felt really bad for Beth, struggling to take control of her life and doing the best she can.

I found Beth’s lack of freak-out over being told about David’s wolf a little unrealistic – but in the short length of the story I could see how a long, drawn out and slow realization would have over-taken the story and not left room for the plot or much of the romance. I was also a little disappointed that the story seemed to end very suddenly, and while not a cliff-hanger, I was definitely left with a feeling of “wait a minute, what happens next?”. I feel the best advice I can give readers is to grab a drink, sit back and just enjoy the ride – don’t think too hard about it. I honestly found the writing interesting and well-paced, fast enough that I didn’t feel the need to skip pages to hurry the action along, but slow enough that I didn’t feel David and Beth fell into the “insta-love” trap a lot of paranormal stories do where simply knowing they’re mates means logic, reason and chemistry aren’t required.

Overall I thought David and Beth were two rational characters who found themselves in an extra-ordinary circumstance and did the best they could. Best of all they had some sizzling chemistry and despite it being “against the rules” of David’s wolf-shifter pack, they finished with a happy ending.

Lee’s life changed dramatically on the night of his school dance. After cementing his feelings of love for Lidah, Lee returns home to utter devastation. His world forever altered, Lee is forced to leave everything behind. More than twenty years later, Lee’s world collides once again with Lidah’s.

An interesting and intense read, this short story packs a punch. Part James Bond and part CIA thriller, this story was fast-moving and quite a page turner. In some ways Lee was incredibly cold and emotionally distant, but the author wrote it in such a manner that I not only found it realistic and interesting, but also completely understandable. Seeing mayhem, death and disaster everywhere it seemed only natural that Lee keep an emotional distance from everyone and everything. His reconnecting with Lidah blew all that totally wide open and made for some deeply emotional and raw discussions

While I understood Lidah’s anger and being upset, I didn’t really like how she didn’t seem willing to trust Lee or give him much of a chance. I can understand her confusion and events certainly happened quickly – in a matter of hours a sniper kills her boss right in front of her and then Lee explains the events that had caused them to be separated after the evening of the school dance. A lot happens – and Lidah has in her own way been grieving for more than twenty years. It’s not like Lee could just return and she’d happily jump in his arms. But I didn’t enjoy how she refused to believe Lee – even after his explanations – that the police couldn’t protect her from this threat, or how she isn’t willing initially to even really give Lee a chance. For a romance story this rather dampened the mood for me. When Lidah did soften towards Lee it made those first reactions less understandable to me, personally. Lidah’s reactions also soured my feelings on their romance, since I struggled to find it believable after such a rocky and emotional beginning.

That said, I felt the action and plot aspect of the book was really well written and the action was believable and fast paced. While I never really got completely on board with the romance, I loved every moment of the action and “secret agent” feel of the story. Lee was a strong, capable and efficient hero and reading him doing his thing and the depth of his skills was excellent. I thought the villain was also well written and as an action/thriller story this was an awesome read.

Readers who love spy stories or action packed adventures should definitely enjoy this quick read.

I knew when I picked up this story it was short. I knew it would fill maybe half an hour. I got what I wanted–short and hot.

The writing is good–it kept me wanting to read. I had to know what would happen to the characters. I liked the opposites attract angle of the story–he’s from the north and she’s from the south. She’s a spy and he’s an officer. It’s hot.
