There is something about her that undermines his rigid control and all his rules.

Ms. Fredrick tells a spellbinding story. Of course, I wanted some resolution for McKenna and her parent’ dysfunctional relationship so she could lay her bad memories to rest and move on to a happy-ever-after without them and didn’t entirely get that. However, with adrenaline revved up and love scenes that are earth shattering, Guarded Hearts is a page turner—great entertainment that I heartily recommend!

With my love of the period, I craved the minute details that would set the characters and action firmly in that particular world. Even though much of the novel is set in a rural cottage, I still wanted to revel in that part of the Renaissance as well. And though she does include some well known events, like the defeat of the Armada, they seemed far removed from the action and therefore less part of the world of the novel.

If you enjoy a sexy romp with strong characters vying for control in and outside the bedroom, you will surely want to read Once A Rogue. The title is suppose to refer to John Carver’s past exploits, but it could just as easily describe Lucy’s roguish rebellion. As I said before, they are so much alike they have to be made for each other.

I will have to say Madolyn “Maddie” Carver is one of the best heroines that I have read about in a long time. I LOVE HER!! She is fantastically smart, quick-witted with a wicked sense of humor, loyal to her family at the detriment of her own happiness, and lastly she has probably one of the biggest hearts in England. I forgot to mention, she can also put a big burly man in his place, lickity-split.

Maddie is a beauty in her own right with her long black hair and gorgeous blue eyes. She is very realistic though, she knows that with her temperament, she is not meant to be stifled by marriage. Now she must save a beloved cousin and she is prepared to risk her future by using all of her so called female wiles on the Earl of Swafford. The Earl is also known as “The Beast”, but she will not be stopped when determined. Madolyn Carver also has a fitting nickname, “Maddie the Merciless”. The Beast will not know what hit him.

The Earl of Swafford is faithful to two things: his family and the crown. Upon returning from an assignment ordered by the Queen, he finds yet another predicament. His brother, the heir to the estate, is in love yet again to an unsuitable wench. Now it is the Earl’s duty to protect his younger brother. He must remove the threat of the undesirable woman, immediately.

Normally I don’t enjoy a story that is one misunderstanding after another. Most of this book is one big misunderstanding and some half truths, but that is what made it great. The journey they encounter together is beautifully written. This story pulled every emotion out of me; joy, happiness, sadness, despair, anger and lust. There were times I laughed with joy and then a chapter later I was so angry at the characters I wanted to scream. I think this is a true mark of a great novel.

One subject must be addressed though. Their relationship is an adulterous one. Without giving away any plot, let me just say Maddie has no idea that Griff is married. If you are familiar with the era (London – 1563) then you know it is a common occurrence. Maddie has no desire to ever involve herself with a married man so in that case I was extremely disappointed in Griff. I really did have a love/hate relationship with him. During their courtship he was amazingly gentle, but then when the truth came out I do believe I actually hated him. Those were the times I was also angry at Maddie. The abuse she allowed to befall her was inexcusable in my eyes. Ms. Fresina did a fantastic job pulling me in and not letting go. I wanted to rage and rally against the situation, but she wouldn’t allow me to put the book down.

I am guessing from the subtitle: Taming the Tudor Male in Three Easy Lessons, this will be a trilogy. I did research her website and discovered Ms. Fresina has already planned the future characters. I am downright giddy with her selections. This is an extremely enjoyable novel and looks to be an exceptional trilogy. The second installment is already out and this is me leaving to get it.

You might want to read this one by yourself. What with the laughter, the groans, and slapping yourself on the forehead, people around you might think they need to start meddling in your life…

While I found both internal conflicts believable, I also thought they were dragged out too long. After a bit I felt like a yo-yo. They’d get past their problems, then suddenly they would let them intrude again. Then they’d get past them, and then they’d intrude. Again and again.

Regardless, the author’s skill with the written word and her distinctively interesting and diverse characters kept me turning pages.

Perhaps because of the many other books I’ve read and enjoyed by this author, I hold her to a very high standard. I’ve come to expect the best from Ms. Fredrick. While this story may not have been my favorite of hers, it still entertained me with its cast, its sexual tension (one thing this author especially excels at), the spicy love scenes and the satisfying, sigh-inducing ending.

If you haven’t added M. J. Fredrick to your auto-buy list, you should. I have yet to be disappointed.

She is a great author, and once the book ended I was hungry for more. I hope she makes a series out of these characters, because the glimpses she gave into the lives of them makes me want to know more. Laura Browning is definitely an author to watch out for and someone to definitely add to your reading list. You will not be disappointed in this book.

Kristjana feels safe with Tagg, and the passion rises quickly between them. Tagg feels he has finally found is true mate, but is hurt when Jana tells him that, although she wants and cares deeply for him, she must mate with an Ice dragon for the sake of her people. What neither of them know is that there is Ice blood in Taggert’s lineage, and before they can explore the possibilities, Jana is taken by the traitor as an offering to the Wraiths seeking to destroy the dragons.

Will Tagg be able to save Jana, and convince her he is the mate for her? Will these two find out the truth and mix the bloodlines as well as their lives? Can these two find the happy ever after they deserve?

This is a world filled with danger and betrayal, but with passion and loyalty as well. The characters are strong and well crafted, and these are folks I want to spend more time with.

Kristjana ‘Jana’ McDrakken is a proud and strong leader of her people. She is also a woman who has suffered a betrayal by one of her own, and is trying to come to terms with the loss of most of her people as well as the destruction of her home. She is drawn to Tagg deep in her heart, but also feel the need to keep her people safe and together. I enjoyed watching as Jana realized that she could be both Queen and woman, and have all she desired.

Taggert ‘Tagg’ Stuart is a strong warrior, brave and ready to defend those who need it. He doesn’t expect to have his mate drop out of the skies into his arms in a Wraith attack, but he is more than happy to explore the feelings between him and Jana. I felt his hurt when Jana told him that she needed to mate with a dragon with Ice bloodlines, and watched as he came to terms with her decision. I loved it when he decided that, bloodline or not, he would prove to her that he was the only one for her, once she was endangered again.

There are several intriguing twists her, and there is a bit of political wrangling going on behind the scenes. The secondary characters are well defined, and they have been seen before in the first two books of the series. There are a couple of delightful surprises here, and I enjoyed catching up with earlier characters to see how they have been. This is for those who like fantasy and dragons along with scorching hot romance in their reading lives. I recommend this, and the others in the series as well.

I enjoyed watching Rosemary and Luke’s relationship move forward. The author gives her characters plenty of challenges. The other residents in town are quirky as well as magical, so it’s entertaining to see who does what throughout the story.

If you enjoy magic, humor, and some romance mixed together, this will be a good read for you. It is the last story in the Holiday Magic Series. Be sure to check out the first five, they all are good reads.

Alexia Pane is the quintessential ‘40s heroine, courageous yet soft and vulnerable. Her plight is bound up with the fate of the leader of a pack of shapeshifter wolves who befriend her. Engle VanWolf is the flawed but sexy hot hero of the tale. Hurt by past tragedies, maimed and aloof, Engle is a hero you root for to get his happily ever after. Though he constantly rebuffs Alexia, he is drawn to her beauty and the allure of the chocolate damsel always in need of rescue. Their chemistry sizzles as their attraction escalates.

Did I mention the sex in this book is HOT? The smoking hot ménage a quatre scene (F/M/F/M) between various pack members is brief but sensual. And the scenes between Alexia and VanWolf smolder during stolen moments, fanning the flames of their attraction toward an elusive white-hot fire bolt of passion.

From the action filled plot to the charmingly vulnerable characters to the strange but fascinating world of the shapeshifting wolf pack, A. C. Mason’s book is a great introduction to her Wolf-Spirit series. And if you don’t like paranormal romance, just read Chocolate Damsel. It’ll change your mind.
