I am a big fan of this series and was excited to see this book come out and just had to read it. I loved meeting Vivian and Fergus and seeing how it all began. Fergus comes to New York for what he thinks is a quick stop in his travels but finds more than he bargained for and his stop may not be as quick as Fergus thinks it will be.

Emotions run high in this book and the attraction between Fergus and Vivian is there right from the start. I found myself falling for Fergus right along with Vivian. He is a strong alpha male who loves with all of his heart and is more than willing to do what it takes to care for his mate. He may seem old fashioned in some ways but Fergus will surprise you if you put him in a box. Vivian finds that her trust is not misplaced with Fergus. I found this part of the story to be the strongest. It’s interesting with a lot of good character development and world building. The science fiction world created is unique and goes into deep explanation of various sexual orientations. It seems this world has a much more inclusive labeling process, which I liked and found interesting. The concept of the war seemed very remote in this section and almost unimportant. Instead the focus is on Zeke and Jacqs getting together, which I almost sped read through it was so good.

From there the story slows down quite a bit as the two have a lot of sex and do very little else. This could be an inherent problem with sci-fi stories set on a space ship since the lack of action definitely comes into play. Here I found the story lagged and I struggled to keep my attention in the book at several points. Not that the writing wasn’t wonderful but that nothing really went on and the two main characters just had a lot of sex. That’s great but I wanted something to really happen. I soon got my wish as the absent war suddenly takes center stage and there is a flurry of activity. The writing and characterization surprisingly both picked up and I learned more about the men through their actions than I did while they were having lots of mind numbing sex. The action has a definite tipping point and leads to an unexpected outcome.

Although the story is somewhat up and down in terms of action and how it kept my attention, I did quite like reading it. The writing is clean, descriptive, and imaginative. All the characters, from minor to significant, feel important and fleshed out. The are no throw away people. The plot could have been more even throughout but honestly the incredibly strong start and solid finish helped me through any weak points in the middle. I would easily recommend this to sci-fi fans that want a substantial component of their story to be world building and there is definitely enough romance to please fans as well.

A Not So Hollow Heart is a story about redemption. Mason must come to terms with his grief so he can move on and find love again, even during a zombie apocalypse. The story is obviously well known and familiar, just set during a post-apocalyptic time. This edge of uncertainly laced with understandable fear and the very reality of death makes sense for Mason to both cling to his past hurt and quickly get over it. With Mason as the narrator I could understand his fears and hesitations, his lingering guilt over his dead partner but also the desire to move on eventually. The sheer battle for survival limits grieving.

For this reason the story mostly works. It’s understandable, relatable, and above all very human. I could easily believe in the story and the characters. Mason and his fellow survivors offer a compelling backdrop and the action to move the story forward. Kyle as a love interest is serviceable but mysterious. We’re not told much about his background and very little insight is offered into his thought processes. So I’m not entirely sure why these two men hooked up together but I can appreciate the need for hot sex after a scary day killing zombies.

My only other qualm is that the story is so short it feels incomplete. Several of the scenes feel rushed, as if trying to keep brief when a longer, more involved scene would have been better. Since the story is only a novella, it’s a quick fun read but I was frustrated because I wanted more from it. The background, characterization, the romance, and the ending all feel like they should have more to them. The only thing not lacking is the sex, of which there are numerous scenes. For readers looking for a sex filled romp about emotionally moving on and happens to have zombies, this might suit.

Sweet and Sour is a very, well, sweet and sour story! On the one hand it’s cute and fun with Miles running a busy pickle deli while trying to prepare for a Hanukkah dinner and break up with his boyfriend all at the same time. Not to mention get busy with the sexy undercover cop/part time helper Nic. There are a number of mildly funny incidents that happen on any given day and it’s enough to keep the story moving forward. The every day running of the deli is hectic enough to keep my attention and I flew through the pages quicker than I anticipated.

I liked most of the characters presented, even Itai though he’s meant to be a cad. They aren’t fully fleshed out but they have enough dimension to keep them interesting. I didn’t think the crumbling relationship between Miles and Itai was needed since Miles and Nic hit it off so quickly. Since it takes Miles the entire book to finally breakup with Itai, the relationship between Miles and Nic happens quickly. The author does a good job of building it for most of the story but still, the two fall in bed almost immediately when they can. They didn’t feel like a happy ever after couple but more so one that is just dating and hoping things work out.

Despite the rocky and slightly sour romance aspects, I thought the story was well written and a lot of fun. There’s humor and wry wit mixed with everyday holiday activities. The story really transported me to the busy shopping of the season and frantic sense of time passing too quickly while wanting to slow down and celebrate with someone special. While it may not be a story I’d read again I loved that it was the first holiday story I’ve read this year and it really hit the spot. This author is an easy win for Hanukkah stories and I’d easily recommend this.

As this is the eighth Shadowlands book, Sally, Vance and Galen are all familiar characters and there have been hints that they would be a perfect match. As such I would recommend reading the previous books but Ms. Sinclair does a good job of setting up the story that has enough information to be read and enjoyed alone.

There is a lot of suspense with the investigation of a human trafficking organization and Sally’s part in it. Throw in Galen and Vance trying to draw out of her emotional shell and help her heal and there is a lot of great plot in this story. To top it off Ms. Sinclair can write a hot sex scene that enhances the story, and I found myself very much enjoying every part of this story. She includes some sexual themes that pushed my comfort soon but with the way that Ms. Sinclair wrote them I found them very hot.

This is a ménage storyline, but Vance and Galen aren’t involved sexually and I found the way that they handled the relationship very believable. They fought, they had misunderstandings, and they made up like any couple would, they just had the extra component of there being three of them.

I enjoyed catching up with past characters and even spending some time with past characters privately too. I highly recommend this story for fans of both romantic suspense and BDSM romance. I also recommend the whole Shadowlands series.

I have been a fan of this series since book one and I am enjoying the way this series is progressing. This latest book gives us Nareen’s story. She has always been there for her people but has grown weary and needs some time just for herself. When she takes some time Nareen soon finds that she needs much more than just time; she needs and longs for a mate. Where could he be and how could she ever find him? Nareen must trust her instincts and find a way to locate her mate and please her people at the same time, hopefully not having to choose one over the other.

I love Nareen. She is a strong woman who cares for her people but is wise enough to know that she needs a break. Nareen is more than willing to stand up for herself as well as take care of those that need her. She is not afraid of Tarlach in either of his forms; be it man or dragon. The two make a great couple. Both have endured so much over the years and deserve their happy ever after. Watching the love grow between these two made for a beautiful read.

It was nice to see the previous couples from books one and two. They may be secondary characters in this story but we get to catch up with them and they are an integral part of this story. The love that they all have for their mates and their people shines through in everything that happens in this book. Nareen finds that even as strong as she is sometimes we need the help of others. This book was a nice read and I hope that we get to see more from this wondrous world that this author has brought us.
