Due to this, both stories are somewhat bland without offering anything new or interesting to the classic themes. However, romance fans and those who especially enjoy the young, innocent man with an experienced (much!) older gentleman may enjoy these offerings even if they are similar to other such stories. Ava Rose Johnson brings you into a wonderful world all her own. As you read this story you become lost in the details and the wonderful scenery as if you were really there yourself. She has the reader wanting to know about the other characters in this story as well and whether or not the war will be fought and won by the white witches and werewolves or will the Evil king still rule?

This book was definitely an interesting read and I look forward to more from this author and hopefully more from the Drayzlake werewolf pack.

There is no real romance and emotion between the men, thus eliminating the happy ending and not delivering on the romance aspect of the book.

My other issue is the lack of world building in the story. Other than the initial introduction to the Masarians and a statement of their rituals, very little detail is offered to develop this intricate new fantasy world. I was left feeling as if the story is based on ancient civilizations rather than a new fantasy setting. This didn’t detract from the story but didn’t add enough detail and texture to fully deliver a new and exciting world.

Overall, this is a highly enjoyable book as the strengths are the great writing and fabulous character of Gaven. Although the supporting characters were predictable and empty, the solid narration carried the fast paced story. Fans of fantasy romance will sympathize with Gaven but likely be left wanting with the lack of relationship presented. However, perhaps the author will offer a sequel where Vlar and his intriguing vampire tendencies will be explored. With a gorgeous cover and absorbing story, you should still be sure to get this one.

If the idea of genetically enhanced humans and oodles of steamy sex appeal to you, then you’ll love the third installment of Marie Harte’s Circe’s Recruits series, Derrick.

Although this is the first in the series I have read, I didn’t have any problems getting acquainted with the characters or absorbing their history. Marie Harte has done an excellent job filling in any potential blanks without padding the story. So if you dive in like I did – in the middle – don’t worry. A previous understanding or back history isn’t absolutely necessary. Just be prepared. If you like Derrick as much as I did, you’re likely to buy the first two anyway, and might as well enjoy the set from start to finish.

All of the characters are wonderfully presented, but the focus remains centered on the main protagonists: the powerful and intimidating Circ, Derrick Packard, and the woman that may not be wholly human, Sabrina Torrence. The interactions between them are combustive and scorching, creating some of the most sizzling pages you’re likely to read. They are both incredibly memorable, and will remain on the brain long after you’ve finished reading.

Another aspect of this series I admired was Marie’s ability to bring additional sexual partners into pivotal scenes without making it feel forced or awkward. I’ve read material in the past in which similar circumstances tear the newly formed foundation of the protagonists apart. In this, it brings them closer together. You get the whole Alpha male, Alpha female scenario here, but you also get a bigger vision of the unit they create as a whole.

A thoroughly enjoyable read, Circe’s Recruits: Derrick is something I’d recommend to those that like a slathering of sci-fi combined with intrigue and suspense, intense and memorable men, feisty and kick-ass women, and tons of heat!

When he wakes up in a hospital, Peter suffers from amnesia and can’t remember most of his friends. Little by little his memory returns but he is thrown into a whirlwind of confusion as a police detective is building a case against him. Everything Peter thinks he knows about himself seems to contradict with his surroundings and more questions start to plague him. Who is the true Peter and what is that man capable of?

Fans of the author will enjoy this darker, easier story from Lanyon. The plot is predictable and surprisingly without any twists or shocks. The villain is identified early on and the story focuses more on Peter’s emotional journey then the mystery. The story is told in third person POV from Peter’s perspective and thus none of the characters ever emerge from their allotted roles. Peter’s romantic relationship is somewhat unsatisfying as there is no context, simply a breakup and then they are back together without much consideration for the reasons they initially broke up. The relationship, much like the characters themselves, is simply a vehicle to move the story along and get to the final resolution with a happy ending.

Overall, fans will want to check out this more somber toned story but ultimately it lacks the weight and satisfaction of the author’s other work. This isn’t the best story this author has written, but it is a short, easy to read story with a happy ending that fans can use to tide themselves over until the new Adrian English installment. Since the author is capable of wonderful writing, solid characters, and an emotional connection, no doubt the next book will be better. The emotional journey is the main, and best, part of the story which contains no outrageous aspects but is nevertheless an excellent and engaging read.
