One memorable dinner will have them both discovering more about each other than they could have dreamed possible, and changing their relationship – personal and professional – forever.

I found the pace of this story really great. The author keeps Cory and Elliot moving forward, I didn’t think they lagged at all, but there’s no rush. This isn’t a “they meet and immediately have sex” style of story, but more in depth. I loved watching Cory and Elliot fence with each other (figuratively) and verbally spar. Evenly matched, the more I watched them speak and get to know each other, the better matched I found them each to be. When they finally culminated all that electric, sexual tension, I thought it was a wonderful thing to behold. A strongly passionate M/M love scene, I was thrilled when they finally came together. Add in a deliciously happy ending and I really loved this story. I will definitely be giving it more than a few re-reads. Recommended.

The food in this story sounded amazing. The descriptions of it made my mouth water more than once because of how much time the narrator spent talking about which ingredients were used and how the dishes were made. This is definitely a book that is best read on a full stomach or with some tasty snacks handy.

I would have liked to see more time spent developing the romantic relationship between Josh and Ethan. While I liked both of them as individuals and was intrigued to see what they’d be like as a couple, their relationship moved so quickly that I sometimes wondered why they had both decided to pursue it before getting to know one another better. It would have been really helpful to have more clues about why these men made this decision.

The ending was well done. It fit in with everything I’d figured out about the characters already. What I appreciated the most about it was how it was revealed. I can’t go into any details about this without giving away spoilers, of course, but seeing it unfold was delightful. Ms. Sheridan seems to have an intuitive understanding of how to pace the last few scenes in a short story in such a way that makes it impossible for me to stop reading until everything is finished.

I’d recommend The Sharp Edge of Love to anyone who is in the mood for something surprising.

It was hard to emotionally connect to them because I knew so little about where they came from or why they approached life in such different ways. Having this information would have not only rounded out their personalities, it would have also helped to empathize with certain behavioral tics they both had that weren’t always easy to understand.

Not everyone has the same idea of what should and should not be considered fun. One of the things I enjoyed the most about this tale was how it explored what the characters did and did not consider to be a good use of their free time. The wife-carrying contest was particularly amusing. It’s not something I’d ever heard of before, but the narrator’s description of how it works made me smile. I can see how events like that would be worthwhile for some people.

The Neighbor is a good choice for anyone who is in the mood for something gentle and sweet.

Either choice would have worked wonderfully for this tale, but including both of them made for a slightly uneasy transition to the final scenes. With that being said, this was still something I was incredibly glad to read, and it was only a minor bump along the way.

This was such a beautifully descriptive story. Everything from how Veni’s wings shimmered to all of the steps dwarves must go through to mine precious metals were described so vividly that I never wanted to stop reading. Ms. Harrison’s writing style is incredibly smooth. Some of her metaphors were almost poetic in nature, which only made her descriptions of what was happening her characters even more fascinating than they already were.

From Stars They Fell is a great choice for anyone who enjoys mixing science fiction with fantasy themes.

The author is to be commended to my mind, they made the whole tale feel like an adventure. Even though Regis tells quite a few fibs – embellishing his non-existent gamer skills – I still never really felt as though he was being deceitful to Mars. Regis acted like himself, told the truth whenever he could manage it, he simply pretended to be a lot better at computer games than he really was. I fully credit the author’s writing style and the overall feeling of lightheartedness for making this “deception” completely palatable to me. There is an excellent skill to make me as a reader feel as if while Regis clearly wasn’t being truthful, neither did I feel as if he lied as such.

Clearly this is an M/M romance story, but while there is plenty of chemistry and a few hot kisses, there is only the one fully consummated scene. While explicit, there is not an over-abundance of description here. The bedroom door is left open, but I didn’t feel the scene was dragged out or overly dwelled upon. Romance reads who aren’t upset by a M/M romance and enjoy some spice in their stories should be well satisfied with this single scene. There is a great twist at the end – one I saw coming but still had a lovely chuckle over nevertheless, and I was left with a strong sense of satisfaction.

A fun, happy story about two men meeting each other and starting a wonderful relationship together. Recommended.

I adored the dialogue. Every character had such a unique tone that I was soon able to tell who was talking based on their speech patterns alone. The world building was quite well done. When I read it I felt as though I really was walking alongside Breanwynne after she left home. For a little while I actually wondered if this book was part of a series because of how rich and detailed the descriptions were of everything. While this turned out not to be the case as far as I can tell, it was a lot of fun to explore the world that these characters lived in.

Witch, Cat, and Cobb made me smile. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy stories that are set in the past.

Given how quickly the plot was paced, this was a smart choice.

The romance in this tale developed too quickly. It would have been helpful to have more hints about why the characters fell for each other so easily as neither one of them seemed like the kind of person who would be interested in that sort of thing. Knowing more about their personalities would have helped me to understand if this was out of character for them or if they both had well-hidden romantic tendencies. As it was written, though, I was never quite sure which one of these theories was the one the author was trying to share with her audience.

The plot twist halfway through the story was nicely done. While I did see it coming in advance, it was still fun to see how this twist was revealed to the audience. I also liked seeing how the characters reacted to it. Their responses to this scene made sense based on what I had been able to figure out about their personalities.

Witches & Wolves is a good choice for anyone who is in the mood for a whirlwind romance in a contemporary fantasy setting.

Caleb was fascinating. I liked seeing how he matured from boyhood to adulthood, especially since so much of his tale was focused on what he was like as a child. His personality had plenty of opportunities to reveal itself, and I enjoyed figuring out exactly what kind of person he was.

The narrator told the reader what was happening instead of showing it to us. The premise itself was interesting, but I had trouble keeping my attention focused on the storyline because of how disconnected I felt from what was going on. It felt like I was hearing a thirdhand account of what Caleb experienced instead of observing it alongside him.

One of the things that first piqued my interest in this story was the mysterious stranger mentioned in the blurb. I was curious to see who this individual would be and how they would interact with a little boy who’d gotten himself lost in the woods. Unravelling what was going on with this was a highlight of the plot for me because of how methodically everything was revealed.

There were some pacing problems. So much time was spent on setting everything up in the beginning that the middle and ending felt rushed to me. This almost felt like the first chapter of a full-length book instead of a complete short story. It would have worked well as the introduction to a longer work, but it felt uneven at its current size and pacing due to how little time there was to explain what was happening.

The forest itself was memorable. Ms. Kleinn’s descriptions of what it feels like to walk through the forest in the middle of winter made me shiver in sympathy. It definitely can be a cold, damp, and soggy experience. She captured both the beauty and the misery of that kind of stroll well.

I’d recommend Restless Shadows, Waiting Road to anyone who likes romance novels that include a few fantasy themes.

The character development in this tale was well done. I could clearly picture what both Cameron and Jocelyn were like as individuals, especially as the pacing sped up and their personalities began to strongly influence the choices they made. It was even more interesting to see how their flaws were woven into the narrative as the author clearly seemed to spend a lot of time showing the audience who these characters were as human beings.

It would have been helpful to have a more detailed explanation of what was going on in the woods. Everything was covered so hastily that I didn’t completely understand what was happening. There were a few plot holes that I was never able to fill in at all because they were addressed so quickly. I wanted to give this story a much higher rating because the premise was was interesting. Had I better understood these sections, I would have felt comfortable doing so.

There’s something a little spooky about vacationing in the middle of nowhere. Forests are full of all kinds of odd noises that one doesn’t usually come across in cities or suburbs, so I was glad to see so much attention paid to the sights and sounds of the woodland that Cameron and Jocelyn visited. The vivid descriptions of the hunting cabin and surrounding area made me feel like I was walking alongside these characters once they’d arrived at their destination.

I’d recommend Servants of the Living Forest to new fans of science fiction or modern fantasy. This is a good introduction to those genres.

One of the things I liked the most about this story were the plot twists. There was at least one of them that I didn’t see coming in advance. It was fun to be so surprised by it, especially once I realized where the author was going with it. This part of the storyline was handled nicely, although I can’t say anything else about it without giving away spoilers.

There was quite a bit of telling instead of showing. It was difficult to immerse myself in the plot because I felt as if I were hearing a third-hand account of what happened instead of seeing it unfold in my imagination. This came as a surprise to me because it wasn’t something I noticed in the blurb. Had this tale been more specific and descriptive, I could have easily picked a much higher rating as the premise itself was fascinating.

The chemistry between the characters who were involved in the romantic subplot was well done. As soon as I realized who these people were, I was curious to see how the author was planning to handle their budding romance. Ms. Derr wrote it well, though, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for what she comes up with next. Will there be a sequel? I don’t know, but I would be even more interested in reading her next book if it she somehow manages to mention what happened next to these characters in it!

The Secret of Mermaid Cove is a good choice for anyone who really likes mermaid fiction.
