I won’t give away a lot of the plot, but there are some definite tear-jerker moments.

Like with the first book, there are a lot of secondary characters and keeping them straight can be complicated. I got to meet Jonah this time out. I like him, even though I don’t know a whole lot about him. I’m definitely wondering where Ms Brunstetter will take the story next, but I’m all in for the ride.

Pick this one up if you want characters that will stick with you.

I’ve not had the pleasure of reading Wanda Brunstetter’s work before this book and I’m glad I made the leap. Ms Brunstetter’s work shines. The words flow well and I was sucked into the story right away. I felt like I was there in Bird-In-Hand, PA. I could see Luke well.

There is a lot of emotional play in this book. There are instances where I wanted to throttle the characters, then turn around and hug them. Kudos to Ms Brunstetter for getting me emotionally involved.

There were a couple of things that took away from my enjoyment of the book. Granted, this is the beginning of a series, but there are a lot of characters being introduced. At times it was hard to keep them straight. It took a while, but I did keep them straight and I saw why they were there, but I think with a little more explanation, this could be a really powerful read.

Still, I like this series and can’t wait to sink my teeth into the next book. Thank you to Ms Brunstetter for setting up an interesting situation between Luke and Merrie.

Candace is definitely way out of her normal work environment being around guns and adventurous escapes after completing a repo. Down and Out is a novel that has it all! Adventure, humor, suspense, clean Christian romance and a lot of crazy stalker action mixed all together. At times I thought I was reading a script for a Lifetime movie while watching an episode of Repo Man.

The author did a fabulous job with the plot, keeping it interesting and the surprises with what would come next. The characters were likable and the humor from Bertie and Gertie, you couldn’t help but love them. The slow romance that built between Candace and Josiah Bradley was oohh so the teaser. I have to give two thumbs up for the author’s development of the crazy mind of Lucien. She took it there and didn’t lack any on making him believable crazy. I enjoyed the fact this was a Christian read, but as with life we have bad seeds so Lucien’s character and actions fit the novel. Dyer was not too soft in the approach.

I did notice quit a few typos that stood out and long with some editorial corrections that were missed that were very obvious.  For instance, Josiah was stabbed with a knife, but later it says he was shot. Candace’s sister’s name is Kim, but calls her Brandi in one sentence.

Over all I really enjoyed this novel. I look forward to reading more books from Marcy G. Dyer in the near future.
I would highly recommend Down and Out if you are looking for a thrilling novel with a ending you won’t be able to predict.

In the first quarter of the story the atmosphere was really spooky, and I was on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately, second and third quarters were very slow, because the author spent more time on building this atmosphere of mystery instead of developing the characters and developing the story. However, in the last quarter, Ms. Byrnes picked up the pace and the book became interesting again.

Besides the previously mentioned downsides of the story, there are some more errors that could have easily been avoided by an editor’s intervention. For example, in one scene the hero and heroine are searching through the woods during the thunder storm, but the author mentioned that the heroine saw the hero in the moonlight, not just once, but twice during the search. Furthermore the author mentioned that one of the protagonists had picked strawberries from the garden. That would not be problem if the strawberry season was in full swing. But this particular part of the story was happening in September. Furthermore, and not going into too much detail, there is a mix up regarding identical and fraternal twins. These kinds of errors distracted me too much to fully enjoy the story.

Whispers on Shadow Bay has a wonderful beginning. The author magnificently built the atmosphere in the few first chapters. Descriptions of the island are also beautiful and magical. All in all, the story had a lot of potential; with getting some facts straight, putting the more emphasis on characters and story development, the story would have been great.  I really loved the author’s voice, though, and will be looking for new releases from her in the future. She shows great potential.

As Jessica steps on the path to Christianity, Hunter and Ms. Mable encourage her to ask as many questions as she wants. I liked that they never forced her into anything. When Jessica comes to a pivotal moment in her faith, Hunter and Ms. Mabel are there to support her, but Jessica remains in control of her life. I have no doubt that Jessica will grow into a very courageous woman.

Hunter is exactly the kind of man that Jessica needs. He lends her strength and support when she needs it, but also gives her the tools to stand on her own. Their romance is very touching and moves at just the right pace. I look forward to watching their love continue to bloom in the next book.

I must admit I had a hard time understanding the motives of Evelyn, Jessica’s mother. She doesn’t appear to have any redeeming characteristics. Consequently, she didn’t strike me as a very realistic character. Evelyn’s past is murky, and I’d definitely like to know a bit more about what would drive a woman to treat her only child the way she treats Jessica. Perhaps I will learn more about her in future installments of the series?

Seth is an interesting villain. While Seth is definitely evil, I do believe he has something that resembles feelings for Jessica, no matter how misguided or warped they are. He seems to have been shaped into the evil man that he’s become through some poor choices on his part as well as through the influence of Jessica’s mother. I can’t help but wonder if Seth’s life would have been different if Evelyn hadn’t gotten her claws into him.

Ms. Wright has crafted a wonderful story of love and faith in Twisted Roots. I enjoyed every minute spent reading it and am definitely looking forward to learning more about Jessica in the next book. I recommend Twisted Roots to anyone looking for a different kind of paranormal tale.

Ms. Copeland writes western historical novels with a touch of romance. She brings her characters to life; they no longer live in the pages, they walk in your mind just like real. She also creates endearing characters. You have Trinity and Jones, the two main characters, who have been getting along fine and aren’t looking for love. She also adds Trinity’s grandmother, who happens to be 94 and is sparking with a long-time love that she denied in younger years but is feeling a bit mellower about in her old age.

Life is not easy for a woman alone in the west. Trinity had nothing of value but the ranch her brother was trying to build. Her parents had died and now her brother is gone, too. When rustlers come through and destroy the cabin and her belongings and steal her money, it’s bad enough. But then locusts come through. Anything that had any value is gone now. She only has the land left. How will she locate the title to sell the land? She has no idea, but she knows she may have a relative in town, so she starts walking.

The dance between the couples facing love is the best part of the book. Grandma is still feisty and her suitor isn’t about to give up. Trinity and Jones keep trying to separate and go on with their lives, but somehow it never works out. The author tantalizes you with the back and forth emotional war they are living through.

It’s a good read about strong personalities and good people and I liked it well enough I’m going to keep the book in my personal library so I can read it again. I do that when authors can bring their characters to life and keep my attention though out the book. After all, I wouldn’t mind taking Jones home with me…

But Colleen didn’t count on meeting Matt, who will make her rethink everything she thought she knew. Plus Matt is hot! Even this story couldn’t hide the handsome book nerd who makes Colleen’s pulse race. Throw in some funny family members from both Colleen and Matt’s family and you’ve got a great read.

This story is the epitome of sweet. It’s even sweet enough to allow an older teenager to read. And it’s brutally honest. Most people don’t tell you when you get married that you should like your in-laws and this story covers that as well as what to do with those pre-marital woes and jitters.

Ms. Manners has penned a moving short story of faith, love and hope. While it’s hard to develop characters with any degree of depth in such a short piece, Manners has done a credible job. I enjoyed Wounded Faith very much.

It’s bad enough when you find out that the attractive man you’ve been dating got you pregnant. It’s a lot worse when you find out he’s been married all along…

Ms. Bain gives you two main characters, Calley and Riley, who are independent and have no plans on getting involved again. Calley is still trying to get over the rat that got her pregnant, and Riley lost his fiancé in a bank robbery and doesn’t want to risk love again. This sets the stage for a lot of banter, a good batch of stubbornness and some antagonism on both sides. The author writes the dialogue realistically and makes the developing romance charming. The story begins with Calley throwing up on Riley’s shoes right after he gives her a ticket for speeding. She told him he needed to let her use the bathroom, but he ignored her. He deserved it.

The murder attempts are odd. Calley has no enemies and has blown off the baby’s father; she will raise the baby independently. The author writes a twisted tale that is strange enough to be true. I had no clue who the killer was until I was almost at the end of the story. Even then, I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out.

Another interesting part of the plot is how Calley is treated by her family when they find out she’s pregnant. Her mother claims she’s a Christian, but she doesn’t act like one.

All in all, the author’s words flow well, the story is interesting and the romance blossoming is sweet. I enjoyed this read. Why not try it yourself and see if you can guess the murderer sooner than I did?
