After a spectacularly failed romance left her devastated, all Isis Garrett wants is to start her library in this West Texas town. The last thing she wants is another man, not even the handsome preacher who offers his church for her books.

Pres MacKay is starting a new life as a preacher. He can’t hide his attraction to the sweetly rounded new librarian even as she pushes him away. Can he discover the way into her closed heart and prove to her he’s one of the good guys?

Pres isn’t about to give up on Isis, though. The question is can she forget the pain of the past and see a future with him?

The Librarian and the Preacher: dull premise, you say? Try hot and fast! I hadto read this book all in one sitting. It captivated me from the first few pages!

Determined to lead a proper and spinsterish life as a librarian while running away from a disastrous previous relationship, Isis is persuaded otherwise by a handsome preacher. Even their kisses are hotter than a 100 degree day.

Isis Garrett traveled from Egypt to Paloverde, Texas to start a library and a new life. The hero, Preacher Prescott Mackay, is enjoying helping people in his parish and taking care of his ranch. Both of them are hiding secrets from the past they worry would have others see them in a not-so-desirable light. What secrets are they both hiding? Will the other person think less of them if their secret is revealed? Isis very reluctantly agrees to a date with Pres. She thought that since he’s a preacher, he would surely be a gentleman. What they experience together is a sensual treat sure to have your pulse pounding.

Quinn’s writing is wonderful, making the vicarious experience seamless. The plot is well-written and moves along at a quick pace. I felt as if I were transported into this frontier town, experiencing life in 1877. With historical stories, I am often worried the descriptions might take over the story which would have me lose interest in it. Ms. Quinn makes sure her characters are up front and center, with the description enhancing the story like whipped cream on dessert. The characters themselves are honorable and attractive people (despite Isis worrying about her self-perceived plumpness). They won my admiration when they help Opal, a town prostitute, showing her the same concern and regard as anyone else. The characters’ internal struggles about their past and their interactions with each other make for a very satisfying story.

Hot Under the Collar was a wonderful reading experience. The author has won me as a fan and I will be looking for more books from Ms. Quinn! If you enjoy a well deveolped historical and don’t have much time to read, you won’t want to miss out on reading this very sexy novella.

Possessed by the demon of Defeat, Strider cannot lose a challenge without suffering unimaginable pain. For him, nothing stands in the way of victory. Until Kaia, an enchanting Harpy, tempts him to the razor’s edge of surrender.

Known among her people as The Disappointment, Kaia must bring home the gold in the Harpy Games or die. Strider is a distraction she can’t afford because he has an agenda of his own—steal first prize, an ancient godly artifact, before the winner can be named. But as the competition heats up, only one prize will matter—the love neither had thought possible.…

The annual Harpy Games were overrun with more than troublesome harpies. Demons, Greek gods, and angels add to a thrilling adventure that kept me glued to my seat.

Strider’s witty personality is only one of many reasons I anticipated the release of his story. His sense of humor amused me in previous books so I knew he would provide some serious comic relief as a hero. Even when he was staring into the eyes of his enemies, his personality never lost its quirkiness. As the keeper of the demon Defeat, Strider cannot lose a challenge no matter how trivial or seemingly unobtainable. Which is why Kaia, harpy sister to Bianka and Gwen, purposefully challenges him every chance she gets. It’s obvious that he needs someone to keep him on his toes. Kaia is certainly the most entertaining choice for a mate. Kaia as a heroine touched my heart and made me fall in love with her right along with Strider.

For all of her cockiness, Kaia is actually extremely vulnerable. Who knew? It was interesting to see a seemingly strong female role have a softer side. She was labeled a disappointment by her harpy kin due to a mistake she made when she was younger. It’s one of the reasons why Strider’s approval is so important to her. Kaia is determined to earn his respect. With two such strong willed individuals I knew sparks would fly. The dialogue was really clever so the conversations between these two were never dull.

The relationship between Strider and Kaia is one that will stick in my mind for a while. So much so I can see myself reading this story a few more times. They are both known for their wit and sense of humor so it is only fitting that their banter is the best I have ever had the privilege of reading. While they intentionally push each others buttons they do not accept anyone else challenging their mate.

The harpy games added an extra level of excitement to this story. It was the perfect time for some favorite characters from previous books to make an appearance. Readers are also treated to a show of why the harpies are so feared by all including the lords and other demons. Ms. Showalter does an incredible job of painting the harpies as fearless, cunning warriors. It’s not often you see such strong females portrayed in stories and it’s one of the reasons I was immediately drawn to the harpies.

With a wide array of loveable and entertaining characters, this series has always been one of my favorites. This story has made it in the list of most likely to re-read. If you like an epic novel that includes Greek mythology, demons, angels, mythical creatures, a great love story, alpha males, strong females, and much more you won’t want to missThe Darkest Surrender.

A Spindle Cove Novella

Violet Winterbottom is a quiet girl. She speaks six languages, but seldom raises her voice. She endured bitter heartbreak in perfect silence. The gentlemen aren’t beating down her door.

Until the night of the Spindle Cove Christmas ball, when a mysterious stranger crashes into the ballroom and collapses at Violet’s feet. His coarse attire and near-criminal good looks would put any sensible young lady on her guard. He’s wet, chilled, bleeding, and speaking in an unfamiliar tongue.

Only Violet understands him. And she knows he’s not what he seems.

She has one night to draw forth the secrets of this dangerously handsome rogue. Is he a smuggler? A fugitive? An enemy spy? She needs answers by sunrise, but her captive would rather seduce than confess. To learn his secrets, Violet must reveal hers—and open herself to adventure, passion, and the unthinkable… Love.

He speaks a language only she understands. She can be his greatest ally or his worst nightmare. They don’t have much time but they plan to make the most of it.

Violet Winterbottom is a quiet young woman who is recovering from a broken heart when she meets a mysterious man from a foreign country who distracts her from her memories of the man who left her abruptly after a passionate night together. Corentin Morvan is the foreigner who desperately needs Violet’s help, but he’s also quite taken by her. In the short amount of time that he has to accomplish his goal, he intends to leave no doubt in her mind that he means business.

Ms. Dare paints pictures for us with her words and spins a story that is exciting and romantic. Her descriptions are not overly done, but just enough to make the reader feel close to the action. The heroine starts out as a passive, quiet lady and becomes an assertive, quick thinking, brave woman as she helps the man who she is falling for. The hero’s situation gave the story a twist that was interesting.

The struggle that these two go through, culminating in the heroine making her choice for her future, makes for a satisfying read. Even though it is a novella, it is thoroughly entertaining, with spicy love scenes. I also love the cover which really goes well with the story. This is a book that will be going on my “keeper shelf”. If a clever Historical with a bit of intrigue strikes your fancy, pick up a copy of Once Upon a Winter’s Eve today.

Two years after the deaths of her bond mates, Constance Newcastle is ready to start over. The problem? The rest of the Great Pack, gathered in Paris to shift into wolves together, is not so sure she deserves the chance. Although the Great Council ruled the car crash an accident, even Constance blames herself. She was driving, after all.

Treated like a pariah by those she longs to rejoin, Constance reunites with an old lover. Everything looks promising until he mysteriously dies. Accused of his murder and desperate to clear her name, Constance joins forces with handsome, confident Liam Murphy, a former Alpha pack leader with a past as tragic and troubled as her own. Guided by the mysterious Councilor Jason Allerton, Constance and Liam discover they are not alone– throughout the Great Pack, people are dying. Can all the deaths be accidents, or is something more sinister going on?

Two people forced together to solve a mystery that is destroying their way of life. Can they work together or will their differences kill them and possibly more of their kind?

Constance is damaged goods. Two years ago, she lost everything; her bond mates and even her pack. I really don’t have a set writing style that I prefer, but I have noticed that single point of view is not my favorite. I do have to say after reading Beneath the Skin that my opinion has changed a bit. I was drawn into Constance’s mind. Her pain was heartbreaking and her fears became my fears. I can’t imagine this story being written any other way. There were times I wanted to jump into Liam’s mind to see what the heck he was thinking, but the mystery behind his actions enhanced the story. Ms. Burgess did an amazing job pulling me in and making me feel like I was Constance.

For me the uniqueness of The Pack is what I found the most exciting. Though my journey with Constance was fascinating, it was the rules and magic of this universe that pulled me in the most. Ms. Burgess has written an amazing take on being Pack. From shifting abilities, to their history and even their future, I was captive and intrigued. I was in utter awe of her ability to expand on a well used subject matter and make it all her own. This is her first published novel and all I can say is WOW!! Her storytelling abilities are fantastic, the pace of the book was perfect and her continuity was spot on. Congratulations to an amazing first novel!! Ms. Burgess is now an author I’m going to follow and her next two novels in this series are already on my TBR list.

Beneath the Skin is a fabulous book. It pulls you in, wraps you up and holds on tight. Don’t miss this great book! If you love shifter novels, with a bit of steamy romance, you won’t be disappointed.

Seven years of longing comes down to just one night.

Laney Kent returns to Barrier Shoals hoping to reunite with her first love, Bridger. She anticipates his reception might be chilly, but what she doesn’t expect is to become the victim of a deadly obsession … or that this night with Bridger could be her last.

Bridger Jansen tangled a lot of sheets trying to forget about Laney, but his heart knew what the rest of him refused to admit: he could love no one else. He’s determined not to forgive her for leaving him without explanation, but when he fails to protect her from a vicious attack, the person he can’t forgive just might be himself.

Have you ever fantasized about your first love and wondered what would happen if you hooked up again? So does Laney. And she intends to find out.

I read this author for the first time not too long ago and immediately fell in love. I love her style, her writing and her voice. She has this amazing talent for drawing you in and making you fall in love with her characters in a very short space. Her talent also extends to telling a full story in a very short format that doesn’t leave you feeling like something was missing. That’s not easy to do in short novellas that usually equal less than fifty pages. Ms. Ballance’s writing is the kind that leaves me thinking about the characters, and the story, long after I have finished it. She has gone on my “must read” list and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she will write a full length novel at some point, because it would be one to remember, without a doubt.

I loved all of the characters in this story. Even Holden, the secondary character, came through loud and clear with his own sexy style. Bridger, the lead male, is a sexy “man’s man” who seems more like a cowboy transplanted to the beach rather than the beach bum that I expected given the locale. On the other hand, you may feel shame in time of going to the physician and purchasing the drug from a registered Online Pharmacy. order viagra no prescription Texas online adult driver education offers you the convenience of your home when you enroll in an online learning course levitra brand cheap offered by a Texas driving school education and offer an online option. This very online tadalafil well could be the cause of the disorder and it is the foundation of mutual understanding relationship. Laney is a strong, yet vulnerable, girl next door. The type that I would have been friends with in high school and kept in touch with long afterwards. The setting is great as well. With the beach as a backdrop, which (in my mind) projects the sense of relaxation and calm, you quickly realize how sinister it can be and the author portrays both very well. Also, what has the potential to be spookier than an old lighthouse?

The idea that Laney would return after seven years and that her relationship with Bridger would immediately pick back up where it left off seems somewhat unrealistic, but Ms. Ballance manages to convince me it’s possible with finesse. Given their connection and the circumstances, it’s not necessarily an unreasonable consequence of the situation. The fact that Bridger seems to be at odds with himself over what he wants and what he believes should happen make it believable. The story line of the serial killer is suspenseful and creepy and the perfect catalyst for the two of them coming together.

Without giving anything away, it looks like this has been set up to be a series, so we will get to revisit Bridger, Laney and Holden at some point in the future. Personally, I can’t wait and I will be watching for the next book. If you are looking for a new author, or a just enjoy a short, quick, enjoyable read then definitely check out ‘Familiar Light’. You don’t know what you are missing if you pass this book, or this author, up.

Dusty O’Donovan, an accomplished bull rider, isn’t afraid to ride El Diablo, a feisty stud whose owner, Zach McCray, is offering $500,000 to anyone who can stay on him for a full eight seconds. Though Zach refuses to let a woman ride his bull, he’s intrigued by the headstrong Dusty, who he last saw when he was thirteen and she was six. Until the day he ran into Dusty at the rodeo, he figured his life was about as full as it could get, but she turned his life upside down from the first smile. Could making Dusty see his love be the best thing for the two of them or will her secrets and evasions make this relationship something that could never work?

While this story did start off a bit slow I was surprised at how simple it was to get into. The characters were easy to relate to, and although at time the country slang of “darlin’” that Zach seemed so fond of did get a bit old, it is something you hear in the south.

I did like that Helen Hardt made the characters so easy to fall for, and not completely perfect; she made them human and it made the story that much more enjoyable in the end. Having never read any of her works before, I was pleasantly surprised by this story and find that I will be looking for more stories by her in the future.

Kitty Norville, star of a New York Times bestselling series, is everybody’s favorite werewolf DJ and out-of-the-closet supernatural creature. Over the course of eight books she’s fought evil vampires, were-creatures, and some serious black magic. She’s done it all with a sharp wit and the help of a memorable cast of werewolf hunters, psychics, and if-notgood- then-neutral vampires by her side. Kitty’s Greatest Hits not only gives readers some of Kitty’s further adventures, it offers longtime fans a window into the origins of some of their favorite characters.

In “Conquistador de la Noche,” we learn the origin story of Denver’s Master vampire, Rick; with “Wild Ride,” we find out how Kitty’s friend T.J. became a werewolf; and in “Life is the Teacher,” we revisit Emma, the human-turned-unwilling-vampire who serves the aloof vampire Master of Washington, D.C.

This entertaining collection includes two brand-new works: “You’re On the Air,” about one of Kitty’s callers after he hangs up the phone; and the eagerly awaited “Long Time Waiting,” the novella that finally reveals just what happened to Cormac in prison, something every Kitty fan wants to know.

This book is a must for Kitty fans. A simple statement, but it really does apply because Ms. Vaughn presents a bunch of short stories that showed the development of what we now know and love about Radio D.J, and my favorite werewolf, Kitty Norville.

I included in the page count the explanations that the author included at the end of all the short stories because they read well, are entertaining by themselves and provided greater insight as to what was going on at the time she wrote them. It was a fascinating process.

There are too many to write a review for individually and even though I rated the heat level as hot, most are spicy or sensual but since one made it to the hot level, the whole book has to be labeled as such.

I really enjoyed Ms. Vaughn’s personal interpretation of the Bible story, Daniel and the Lion’s Den. In fact, it was perfect because it made so much sense and it worked with the ‘facts’ as we know them. It was fun.

Actually, I’m really sick of books about zombies but I found myself completely engrossed in Ms. Vaughn’s twist on the subject. It was a breath of fresh air and she even touches base at the end of the book as to the research she’s done and why she took the stand she did. I like her version a whole lot better because I agree with the author — it’s waaay scarier.

What I found intriguing and had me bouncing in my seat were the stories that had Rick in them. Surprisingly, there is quite the undercurrent about his character. I’d read the one about the military lab and the unicorn and the selkie in another anthology but never could I have imagined that the vampire in that had any connection to Kitty’s world. Call me floored.

Ms. Vaughn saved the best for last and that is the story about Cormac. Oh, Wow! To be able to get inside his head? To get his point of view from inside prison? What an amazing ride. The tale gripped me and had me reading wide-eyed through the whole thing. Also, I found those little comments that Cormac made relating to Amelia absolutely delicious. I sense a sub-plot and I have high hopes that the author isn’t just teasing her fans but will someday figure out how to bring that to light in a way to satisfy romantics at heart. As it is, this story alone was worth waiting for.

Between Rick and Cormac, they made the purchase of this book a winner and I’m a very satisfied reader. Some publishers have books out on popular series that don’t contribute much to the forward movement but re-hash what’s already been written. Kitty’s Greatest Hits doesn’t do that. I found value in understanding more of the background while at the same time it presented me with new questions and interest in the series.

A cute addition to this anthology is the behind scenes look at one of Kitty’s callers on the radio show. It tickled me because I DID remember the caller- though I can’t remember which book it was in – and I had an ‘awww’ moment at how it ended. I enjoyed it and thought it clever of the author. Why? Because it created a more solid world-building atmosphere where a reader could feel like a part of it; like they could travel to another city somewhere and actually find some of Kitty’s world. Or see it someday on the silver screen. When an author can successfully incorporate other mundane aspects of the world her characters live in and still entertain, garner interest and make them feel like they’re still visiting Kitty and pals, it’s well done and worth taking the time to read.

Another great lure is the background tale of the relationship between Ben and Cormac. They’re cousins but it’s more than that. Based upon the series, I understood that they’d been through a lot and they always had each other’s backs but there is one tale that brings understanding as to just how far back it goes, and the trials and tribulations they survived to get to the point of being where they are now in the series. Fascinating stuff.

Kitty’s Greatest Hits is the best book to get for fans of the series, especially if they have a special place in their hearts for Cormac, Ben and Rick. Those three guys are a trifecta for Kitty. Each one has a role that showcases the heroine’s growth as a character and this book explores for readers just how special they are. Add in those other intriguing tales from the author’s imagination and this is a real winner that entertains as well as informs. I can’t wait until the next Kitty adventure!

Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when the immortal warrior is chained and isolated to protect those he loves, death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty….

Haidee is a demon-assassin, raised to despise Amun’s kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul…and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her.

This is one of the most entertaining series I have ever had the pleasure of reading and The Darkest Secrets lived up to the expectations set by previous installments. Amun, keeper of the demon of secrets, was a warrior that I really didn’t know much about coming into the story but always intrigued me. How much can you really know about a person who cannot open his mouth? Since his demon absorbs all of the secrets of those around him to speak would mean for him to reveal all of the absorbed secrets including those of his closest friends. This left his character a bit reclusive throughout the series until now.

Even better, the identity of his mate made the story that much more enticing since Haidee was the woman who had murdered his best friends hundreds of years ago. When Amun should have been trying to kill her, he found himself instead protecting the fierce woman. I was captivated by this book to the point where I could not put it down. I am not sure which was the more gripping, the main plot of Amun and Haidee, or all of the other sub plots in this story.

While this may be the seventh full-length book in this series, there are also quite a few anthologies where the characters in this series have appeared. Additionally, while I think anyone can enjoy this story alone, I would recommend to readers that they read the previous books. They are all extremely entertaining and will leave any reader wanting more the same way The Darkest Secrets left me anticipating the next story.

I love to see how the couple re-connects and rekindles what ever put out the fire. Her narrative is easy to read, easy to follow and full of anecdotal funnies and downright get you in the heart emotions that will have you wiping tears from your eyes. Her characters are unforgettable, enigmatic, heartfelt and so real you might meet them on the street.

Her hero Mason is not your textbook nerd, he’s more a geek with attitude. Her heroine Kirsten is the girl next door whose insecurities are her biggest downfall. She has the second chance plot down to perfection in her depiction of this couple’s struggle back into each other’s arms. The love scenes while not many are ones you’ll be reading, and then re-reading over and over because they are so fraught with emotion, sensuality and heat. I couldn’t get enough of them.

There are only a couple of things that I found fault with: first, that it ended and second, that I can’t give it a higher rating. It’s one of the best romances I’ve read in a while. It will appeal to the true romance lover, the sophisticated romance lover, the romance lover who craves the emotional turmoil that comes with a love story.

Thank you Ms. Ashgrove for taking me on an adventure that I will repeat many times, I can’t wait to read what you come up with next.

This was an amazing book! Not only did Ms. Long really make the reader feel like we were right there while all of this was happening, but she made the book so easy to read that when the last page came I didn’t want the story to end. As a reader, she is now on my short list of great authors to read, and this series, Pennyroyal Green series, is on my shopping list for the next trip to the book store. You will not be disappointed if you pick this up!!
