To keep her job, Sarah Hart needs a sizzling article for her romance column. While on vacation in Hawaii, she grabs the first handsome tourist on Waikiki Beach, and makes him a deal. She’ll set him up on a few dates, all expenses paid, and watch him fall in love. Then she’ll take his story, say sayonara, and still have a job. But Keith Hanover is no player, he’d rather charm Sarah. His deal is if she can’t find him true love, than she must meet him on Sunset Beach for a date.

Her search for his perfect match begins an unruly adventure of close talkers, criers and a few Abbey-normals. There’s shark diving, a mad scientist, crazy roadside fruit stand kids, Dole ice cream lickers, and paparazzi. Will Keith even make it to the date with Sarah before running from her set-ups?

Just because you’re a reporter doesn’t mean you can see what’s right under your nose. Like most of us non-journalist types, Sarah is so focused on her “mission” she fails to see what’s really going on around her.

Now, I’m not saying that being in Hawaii and being hit on by an aggressive “open” couple as well as scouting for new romance stories isn’t enough to make any of us miss a few things, but we’re fortunate as the readers to be able to see everything (or at least re-read and catch everything!)

Sarah finds Keith and thinks she can turn him into her job-saving column – but Keith thinks otherwise. Hilarity ensues, as does confusion, heartbreak and some pretty steamy scenes.

One of the nicest parts of the story are the secondary characters. They are each an integral piece of the story and allow our hero and heroine to grow. I must say I enjoyed Sarah’s cab driver; his role in Sarah and Keith’s lives was amusing and, dare I say, sweet.

At the risk of spoiling the story, I will say, three separate times I thought the story was over. Ms. Loy surprised me by continuing. In one respect, it was nice to keep the characters around and enjoy being in their lives for “just a little while longer”. On the other hand, this story is such a roller-coaster, sometimes I felt the need to “step off” for a little while.

Fast-paced and full of twists and turns, this is definitely a story you will want to make time to read.

How to make a strong man fall hard? Refuse him.

Worth It, Book 2

Hunter Worth lives life to the absolute fullest. As vice president and head of brand marketing for Worth Luxury Goods, he’s brought his family’s business firmly into the twenty-first century. Ruthless yet charming, he’s now set his sights on the sexiest member of the marketing team. First thing on his agenda? Seduction.

Gracie Hayes needs her job at Worth—and she’s not about to let the gorgeous owner and her direct boss distract her—again. Orphaned, and with a rough childhood behind her, she’s worked too hard to compromise everything for a fling, no matter how tempting. Independent, strong and resourceful, she will fight off Hunter. She has to.

Flirting, stolen kisses, a few nights of scorching hot sex…Hunter has all that in mind and more with the delicious Gracie. He never figures he’d fall in love or that she’d deny him. How will Hunter convince Gracie he’s the one for her?

The Worth brothers are well worth the read…pun intended. Book two in the Worth It series is just as steamy and hot as the first, Worth the Scandal. The chemistry between these two stubborn people was burning up my reader and I couldn’t wait for their amazing moments of weakness. I wasn’t kept waiting for long.

Hunter is simply an arrogant womanizing jerk. As the middle man in the trio of brothers, he plays the part well. He’s jealous of the baby of the family because of his carelessness and freedom. He’s also always trying to prove himself to the elder, never feeling good enough and doesn’t want to be thought of as a burden. Feeling loved, but never quite fitting in, he’s just witnessed his big brother fall helplessly in love, and what a fall it was. Hunter’s determined to never be a victim of that feeling. The problem is he has an unexpected pull to his co-worker Gracie, which he just can’t deny or satisfy. He didn’t see the warning signs of danger ahead. Hunter’s an accident waiting to happen.

Gracie’s been alone forever. She was abandoned by her mother at a very young age and grew up in the system. She fought long and hard to get where she is and she will not make the mistake of falling into the bed of her over-sexed boss. But the one kiss they shared continues to haunt her. Could this warm fuzzy feeling be something worth looking into?

Hunter jumps in with a full frontal attack and Gracie never saw it coming. She may have her moments of weakness when it comes to this handsome man, but she stands strong and makes him work for it. It was apparent throughout the book that these two belonged together, but I could still completely understand the barriers they were facing. From the beginning to the end these two have to fight against love and fight for their freedom. It takes almost losing it all, to open their eyes.

My heart went out to these two people. It was almost painful to watch what Hunter had to go through. He was so strung out over his newly discovered feelings, it was poignant. Gracie was an amazingly strong willed woman who had so many inner demons to conquer, I wondered if she would ever make it.

Worth the Risk has amazing pacing, with no lulls and the style of writing was smooth. I was never bored and I didn’t feel rushed at all. The flow from scene to scene was flawless. It’s rare to find a novel that’s so perfectly balanced.

Ms. Erickson knows how to write a compelling story that doesn’t allow any room for distractions. This book was hard to put down and kept my attention from beginning to end. So be prepared to spend the whole day with Hunter and Gracie. Worth the Risk made losing my day so Worth It!

A psychic, a skeptic, and a serial killer…

Psychic Lia Morgan sees portents all around her. Although estranged from her family, she joins the search for her missing sister. A simple case gets complicated fast when she discovers her sister’s plethora of secrets includes a son.

Professor Jared Trimble’s world has no room for paranormal mumbo-jumbo. When asked to consult on a case involving a series of crossword puzzles, he’s conflicted. Is he a suspect, or an investigator?

While Lia uses her physic gift and follows signs, Jared uses his wits and experience. When the two collide, passions flare and the final clue brings them both into the bullseye of a serial killer’s target.

Tidings of Fear starts off – quite dramatically – in the predator’s mind. We see his trap laid, we understand his desire. Ms. Scott’s opening is cleverly and intriguingly dramatic. This reader was hooked on sentence number one.

We, like Lisa, the missing woman’s sister, are immediately concerned. Lia Morgan will of coursen begin investigating her sister’s disappearance, and she does have an ace in her hands: psychic power. She’s joined by various family and one concerned outsider: Professor Jared Trimble. Jared has a right to be concerned,  since he is also a suspect.

Right away we have the clash of technique: Lisa using paranormal abilities, (or attempting to, to her occasional frustration.) while Jared is a straight-laced man of science. This causes an enormous amount of tension. As if there weren’t intrigue enough, Lisa uncovers disturbing evidence of her sister’s life and various entanglements.

The personalities here alone are enough to keep you reading, but the storyline is also well done, not too complex and continually intriguing. There are certainly unpleasant elements uncovered, but I hated reading some of the points that probably weren’t meant to convey what they actually did (like the good professor apparently not having the ethics to keep his hands off students). Yet, I suppose it gives Trimble that sleazy aura that makes him so useful as a suspect.

The investigation, the clues – heck, even the crossword puzzles and their tricky relating clues, all prove intriguing but sadly, I liked the actual characters less and less. They all had their admirable qualities…and perhaps humanizing faults…but I started to lose interest when I really start to dislike the main characters. It is hard to dismiss the just plain creepy aura that hovers around Trimble, and is never truly addressed.

Scott’s suspenseful romance falls short in some aspects, but it has a well-built and intriguing plot that will appeal to mystery lovers. The cover does nothing to convey the storyline. Ignore that and select this story anyway: it is an enjoyable read.

Never fear the pain. Fear what lies behind it…

Grimm’s Circle, Book 6

In his mortal life, the only thing Jacob liked better than money was a good brawl—until he stuck his fist into the wrong fight, and a demon sent him spinning into a new life as a Grimm.

Now, a hundred years later, he’s been called to protect someone too much like himself. A woman who could let the chains of her past drag her down unless she learns to let go. A woman who fights like there’s no tomorrow, because she clearly doesn’t want a tomorrow.

Celeste thought her second chance at life would be an opportunity to fix some of her worst mistakes, to set things straight. She couldn’t have been more wrong. She’s trapped by the past and her regrets, and nothing—not even her darkly sexy new trainer, Jacob—has a blade sharp enough to cut her loose.

Chains are Jacob’s specialty, but his help comes with a price. To her, the cost is her heart. To Jacob…something much more.

Sometimes, you just have to let the past go, and not worry about what might have been. Celine’s biggest problem is that she hasn’t been able to let go of what was, so she fights demons as a Grimm for all the wrong reasons. She’s worked with almost every available trainer, and Will hasn’t found one able to reach her to help her move on. When she’s paired with Jacob, will he be the one who can, finally, help her make the break with the past and move on in her new life as a Grimm? Can she finally put the past behind her, and find a new reason to fight and enjoy life once again? Can she find in Jacob what she is so desperately seeking with each new battle-a reason to go on?

I have been a fan of Shiloh Walker’s Grimm’s Circle series since the very first book, and look forward to each new release. Ms. Walker’s world is one that is dark, brooding and filled with danger at every turn. The characters are all too human, with flaws and weaknesses just like the rest of us, with one difference: they are all given second chances to become guardians of the human race as Grimms, guardian angels who fight the demons who would possess humanity and destroy life.

Celine is strong, fast and willing to fight any demon she sees; the more the better. But until she can let go of her old life and the feelings of guilt and failure, she won’t be more than a fighting machine, and may even be dangerous to herself and others. She has regrets, and wishes she could settle the problems she had with her husband before her ‘death’ and rebirth as a Grimm. I liked watching as Celine grew and realized she wanted something that would never have been. I enjoyed watching as she waged her battle of will against Jacob, and I liked her ability to accept her new role in life.

Jacob is a man haunted by his past, and the life he had before he became a Grimm. Strong, loyal and determined, he knows where Celine is at because he has been in the same kind of situation she’s experiencing. He learned long ago to accept what couldn’t be changed and has finally moved on as best as he could. I liked Jacob, with his silent supporting ways, and his smoldering desire for Celine that slowly becomes a deep passion and desire to see the woman whole and content with life.

As with every Grimm’s Circle book, I enjoyed the guessing game of who the literary character might be in this one, and I was delighted to discover I was right in this case. No, I will not spoil the surprise of who Ms. Walker brought to this tale, and the deliciously intriguing twist she puts on the history behind this character’s life. There are some intense fight scenes here, and some touching and emotional scenes, especially the one between Celine and her husband that helps begin the healing for both. And it just wouldn’t be Shiloh Walker without the super hot passion between Celine and Jacob. There is something for everyone here, and I highly recommend making your escape to Grimm’s Circle soon.

To satisfy the requirements for her Master’s Degree in fine art photography, Amy Millington needs to photograph architect Charles Harding’s childhood home, but his boarded-up house holds painful memories for Charles and he allows no one inside. Without those photographs Amy cannot secure her daughter Marta’s future, but he denies the gutsy widow’s request.

Amy notes his sadness and with Marta’s help, teaches Charles to again have fun. In doing so, he learns to appreciate her art and allows her inside his house. He still refuses to enter his house until the day Marta disappears inside and he discovers her in a forgotten wine cellar clutching his mother’s long-lost suicide note. Knowing the reason his mother shot his father, then turned the gun on herself, frees Charles from his past. Can he also free Amy from her painful past and teach her to love again?

Toni Noel’s novella, Decisive Moments, is a freshly original contemporary romance with utterly believable characters and an unpredictable plot.

Amy Millington is on a mission. She’s smart, quick-witted, thorough, and not about to let anyone disrupt her plans. In fact, she’s one of the most strong-willed characters one could imagine, and completely admirable.

The handsome but dour Charles Harding hardly seems likewise. He appears to be an obstacle in her plans – but perhaps, just perhaps, he has some small appreciation for Amy’s goals. They do share an interest in architecture; and secrets. Still, there are some ghosts that one cannot ignore, and Amy guesses as much about Charles.

Will her temerity be rewarded? I had doubts. Yet, like Amy, I had to believe she would find a way – but how? Ms. Noel builds both intrigue and a shadow of suspense into this very clever tale. Solving Amy’s challenge is important from the start…yet the romance, off to a slow start and almost a surprise, is no less important. In fact, the romance side of this is simply extraordinary; emotionally evocative yet in most scenes, subtle. This work would be worth reading if only for that.

Locations are simply wonderful, like the austere ‘Harding’ mansion. Yet, details of description are woven into text rather passively and this reader found herself wanting to zoom past, to impatiently get ‘back to the story.’ Good and bad: the descriptions tend to slow things up, but the plot is intriguing enough so you must stay with it.

A different and surprisingly moving romance. Do read.

Natalie Jones is the lucky survivor of an elusive killer who preys on young women and then disappears from view. And since her harrowing ordeal, the once gutsy photojournalist has remained isolated in her home, paralyzed by fear and her failing vision. Special Agent Liam “Mac” McKenzie has scars of his own. But despite his efforts to ignore the attraction that simmers between him and Natalie, he needs her help to catch a predator. Soon, they will forge a tentative alliance—charged with desire. Through a soft-focus lens, Natalie dares to envision a future with Mac beyond the investigation…never guessing that the clues hidden within her photographs are drawing them into an explosive confrontation with a madman.

Murder. Deception. Intrigue. These words fit in so perfectly within the pages of Shades of Desire. There’s so many aspects of this book that called to me.

Natalie Jones is the heroine of this story, and a character I completely related to. For one, she’s losing her vision, and that changes her completely. There are days she’s so withdrawn. She fights feelings of anger, fear, sometimes a bit of pity, but she’s a strong woman learning to beat the odds of the cards life dealt her. Her passion involves photography. I can’t imagine not being able to look through the lens and capture moments of life that will be still forever. I admire Natalie, and feel for her. Ms. DePaul certainly did a good job creating the angst and realism in Natalie. Writing a lead character without one of the major senses can be difficult. Kudos for really delving into the emotions and every day struggles for a woman facing the truth of her loss.

Liam McKenzie, otherwise known as Mac, is the hero. He meets Natalie after responding to a distress call from her house. His reaction to her surprises him, and he has even more admiration after the discovery of her declining vision. He’s drawn to her, though he fights what he feels for various reasons. Mac seems to have some deep unresolved issues of his own, but they don’t get much exploration in the book. He’s tough, but he does his job well, and that includes keeping Natalie safe when a killer sets his sights on her.

The first couple of chapters were a bit slow, but once the pace picked up, it stayed steady and I couldn’t put the story down. The flow of the story, the great writing, and the characters all blended together to create a whirlwind of a tale. The author sure knows the craft of suspense, keeping readers wanting more and more. Shades of Desire isn’t just about the suspense, it’s about the emotional journey of two people that must face their past in order to move forward in the future. You’ve got my attention, Ms. DePaul, and I am anxious to see what else you’ve got.

With the legions of the underworld gathering and chaos close at hand, Sorcerer Declan O’Hara’s deadly skills will be tested. But nothing will sway him from his duty…

Rescued from eternal darkness, vampire Ana DeLacrux owes her life to a mysterious stranger who asks for only one thing—her absolute allegiance. She serves this master without question until Declan, the one man who can make her forget her vow, returns. His magic is stronger, darker…more compelling than ever. His blood awakens a hunger she must resist, or risk deadly consequences.

As Ana and Declan join forces, the streets of New Orleans become a dangerous place for both humans and the otherworld. And the most dangerous place of all is a road Declan’s traveled before…the wicked road to hell.

Vampires and demons and magic, oh my! If you couldn’t get enough of the remarkable world that author Juliana Stone created with the jaguar books, then fear not! Wicked Road to Hell is the beginning of a spin off from those previous books, and it is darker, sexier and more enchanting than before.

Those who have read the books from the jaguar series may remember Ana, the vampire. Here she is front and center for her own story feature. She’s been to hell and back (literally, and all the while I kept humming the music from a Rodney Atkins country song: If You’re Going Through Hell) Even without the fact that she’s a vampire, Ana is fierce, mighty and tough. She’s a heroine that I wouldn’t want to cross. The type of woman you’d want on your side if things were to ever be troublesome. Despite the rough edges, though, Ana does have a good heart and is willing to help. The sparks surely fly when she’s around Declan, that’s for sure.

Declan is also another previous character getting his own story. What a surprise for him when he sees Ana after thinking she’s dead and gone. Declan is also a strong character. He’s a hero to swoon over. He takes many risks, but he’s a fighter and believer in his causes.

The world in the League of Guardians is impressive. I like how the author created it, and there are many paranormal creatures that are a part of it. So far I have only read the first book in the jaguar series, and I felt like I was missing a lot of things that must have happened in book two and three. So if you’re the kind that reads series in order, then before reading Wicked Road to Hell, you may want to read His Darkest Hunger, His Darkest Embrace, and His Darkest Salvation.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. The plot is filled with adventure, the love scenes are hot and filled with sexual tension. I won’t hesitate to pick up more books from this paranormal author. If you enjoy darker romances set in contemporary times, then be sure to keep Ms. Stone on your list.

ETERNAL COMMITMENT IS NOT ON HER AGENDA…

Scorned by the vampire community for her lack of power, Isabel Anthony lives a carefree existence masquerading as human—although drifting through the debauched human nightlife, she prefers the patrons’ blood to other indulgences. But when she meets the sexy, arrogant king of the vampires, this party-girl’s life turns dark and dangerous.

BUT TIME’S RUNNING OUT FOR THE KING OF THE VAMPIRES…

Dead-set on finding the prophesied mate who will unlock his fiery powers, Thad Morgan must find his queen before their race is destroyed. Their enemies are gaining ground, and Thad needs his powers to unite his subjects. But when his search leads him to the defiant Isabel, he wonders if fate had gotten it seriously wrong…

Newly crowned King of Vampires, Thad Morgan, doesn’t simply want to find his destined mate he needs to find her. The safety and fate of the entire Vampire community hinges on Thad coming into his powers. For that to happen he needs to find “the one”. Naturally, he’d find her at a late night rave, right?

Elisabeth Staab’s debut novel is fast paced and descriptive. In a refreshing take on vampire wars the villain in the Chronicle of Yavn are a covey of sadistic wizards out to kill and steal vampire powers. Book one is centered on Thad and Isabel. She’s a vampire seemingly without powers and therefore useless in the vampire community. He needs to find the one that was foretold to be his mate before his own powers can be released.

Thad isn’t the typical hero you might think of when you hear “king of the vampires”. Most readers would assume he’s going to be a super-pumped up alpha male with heaping doses of self confidence. On the contrary, Thad isn’t nearly as confident as he needs to be to garner the respect of his people. A queen at his side would go a long way in changing the minds of the vampires to support and obey Thad.

Likewise, Isabel “Izzy” is hardly “queen” material. As I mentioned, she doesn’t have a power since her parents didn’t have power. The shock which this viagra online secretworldchronicle.com device generates had a negative affect when these men were performing sex and during this phase, men lost their erection and were not able to regain it for a very long time. viagra 100mg usa This medication works by destroying PDE5 enzymes which blocks the blood from passing ahead to the penis of the man. buying this buy generic levitra Diabetes is a common genetic disease occurring as a result of abnormal blood sugar concentration creates tiredness among diabetic patients which in turn creates stress. It took me a little while to buy into Thad and Isabel’s attraction but that’s okay because it took them a while as well. The sexual chemistry is there in spades and they take full advantage to explore those sparks every chance they get. The sex is descriptive and intense but Ms. Staab does a good job not making it the focus of the story.

I was hooked from the moment Thad laid eyes on Isabel. She isn’t at all what he expected but he soon realizes she’s exactly what he needs. When Isabel and her human roommate, Alexia, are attacked Isabel comes to terms with needing Thad as well. Their relationship is rocky for a while due to a distinct lack of trust and lots of miscommunication but in the end the lust they felt early on grows into love.

The secondary characters in this book make a strong impression and are sure to be seen again soon. In fact, Ms. Staab has already noted that Anton and Tyra’s story will be out next with Prince of Power. I’ll be interested in seeing how they reconcile their major differences in the coming book. Another sub-plot that captured my attention was between Thad’s protector and friend Lee and the very human spitfire, Alexia. I’m not sure Lee knows quite what to do with her but he certainly wants her!

This series has some real potential. It works well to give readers a taste of the world Ms. Staab has created as well as a preview of things to come. Since this is the first book in the series, it’s the perfect opportunity to get a taste of Ms. Staab’s talent and be a part of a striking unique new series.
