An honest love…

Radley Lyncott has been in love with Wendy Drew as long as he can remember. When he went to sea, she was too young to court. Now that he’s returned to take up his Welsh title, he is appalled to find that debt has ruined the Drew family, and—even worse—Wendy is being courted by another man.

But her double-life hasn’t gone unnoticed—she has captivated none other than Demon Damon, a nefarious rake who understands Wendy’s darkest desires and is hell bent on luring her into his arms.

What this groom wants, he’s not about to stop until he gets.

I was given the honor of reading another book in this series and I’m glad. What the Groom Wants is fantastic and a wonderful addition to the series. The writing is crisp and flows well. I was thoroughly engrossed for three hours and couldn’t put the novel down.

Where do I begin with this book? The complexity. The characters aren’t easily picked apart and the plot? Holy plot twists, Batman. Yeah, you have to keep on your toes. To a degree, there are a lot of characters. It is the second book in a series, so a lot of characters is expected. But each has a very important role. At various times, I laughed, wanted to bonk characters over the head and cringed and then smiled again.

Wendy Drew isn’t an easy character to read about. She’s not. She’s got lots of flaws and has done things some (in the book) might object to. I say, so what. She’s interesting! She has a mind of her own and isn’t part of the upper crust. She can get away with things the finer ladies might not. I loved it. She doesn’t let people tell her what to do–for the most part–and is smart. I rooted for her from the start. Heck, I was rooting for her in the first book when she was a secondary character.

Then there’s Radley. I have to say is the best character. He takes doing things his way to a new level. He’s also very smart, but very devoted. This guy totally plays by his own rules. He’s a newly minted Duke, but don’t tell him that. He’s happy in his regular clothes and holey stockings–yes, its in there and hilarious. I could visualize him and wanted more of him. Heck, yeah, bring on the good guy!

This book is a tad high on the spice meter. There are some topics mentioned in passing that happen at the gaming hell that some readers might take objection to, but please don’t let that keep you from reading this books. It’s spicy and sweet and totally worth the read. I highly recommend it.

The tale opens up with Lord James being forced to wear the most hideous of clothing. The description of which was almost painful to witness but it does an excellent job of helping me understand the pressure that the hero is under. He’s not in a good place in his life and he’s not too sure what to do about it. Inspiration comes from an unlikely source.

Lady Charlotte Mallen walks into a ball like she owns it. However, that’s only a surface description. The author wasted no time in presenting me a heroine who at a crossroads in her life. She’s done her duty but at this point, she’s come to a realization that duty isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Life should be…more. Nothing proves that with more clarity then time spent observing an Oriental rug up close. It’s very entertaining.

As you can imagine, Charlotte and James strike sparks off one another and it shocks them both. What happens next is very spicy as a whirlwind passion overtakes them. When they both give in to their basic needs something happens. Before the revelation is presented, the hero and heroine explore a no holds barred interlude that has flavored elements of BDSM and a bit of oral fun. The author used mild language to describe the events but there’s no doubt that Charlotte lets loose her inner vixen and James ends up being the one seduced beyond control. Those scenes were quite potent.

As cute and entertaining as this story was, the weakest link is the dialogue. A few of the verbiage choices seemed either a bit modern or out of time. Sometimes it didn’t seem to fit the characters. The tone came across as having a younger voice, far younger than the protagonists are depicted. She’s a divorcee and he’s a man who seemed more mature yet sometimes they acted and said things that didn’t fit the scene, their age or the circumstance. The only time that it was perfect is when they are seducing each other. Then the dialogue compliments the scenes.

The flow of the story seemed a bit disjointed at times but the overall plot was cute and it kept my interest. The happy ever after seemed a bit too fairy tale-ish. As far as I’m concerned, there are still a few practical matters that they will have to face and it seemed a bit premature to end it the way it was ended. However, as a piece of whimsical romantic fiction with its goal being entertainment, I’d say this book succeeded.

A Deal with Lord Devlin is a cute bit of writing that was easy to read. I liked the premise, the passion and what Charlotte did with those offensive hideous clothes of James’. I think that was one of my favorite parts. If a reader is looking for a quick bit of fluff to pass the time, this novelette should do nicely.

When Gabrielle does a sample séance, Ray and Emma become the target of a touchy ghost with no respect for boundaries. After Ray learns his family has a special affinity for ghosts, the two decide to investigate the haunted house. It doesn’t hurt that Emma is immediately attracted to the laconic Ray or that Ray is intrigued by the buttoned-down beauty who seems determined to hide her considerable assets behind sober business suits. But can the two of them fight off a vengeful succubus bound to the house while getting a lot closer than either of them planned?

Looking for a super sexy, fun and exciting paranormal romance?

Happy Medium is the first in this series I’ve read. It stands alone well, though I’m sure followers of the family would catch references and nuances that I may have missed. Regardless, I really enjoyed this book.

Coming into this with no knowledge of the other books, I full expected Emma to be the medium. I was quite surprised to find out that wasn’t exactly the way things were! Apparently the Ramos family has some paranormal talent, and Ray discovers his in this book as he tangles with something you don’t see all that often in a non-erotic romance… a succubus.

While the plot was interesting and well conceived, I really think the true strength of this story lies it its characters. I was so completely hooked from the first sentence. Ray’s character builds right off the bat, as does Emma’s when we meet her. I really loved them. They were interesting, real and unique. I wasn’t as big a fan of Emma’s boss, Gabrielle. She especially made me mad by continually harping on Emma’s weight. It didn’t endear her to me. Fact is, though, I was absolutely invested in all the characters and that above all is what kept me turning pages.

The chemistry between Emma and Ray is off the charts hot (as is the sex because, hello, succubus), and the plot was strong and occasionally nerve-wracking. I admit to wishing I’d read the series in order because I was completely entertained. I’ve gone back to check out what I missed and I’m definitely a new fan of Meg Benjamin.

So, if you like your paranormal stories hot, fun and exciting you should grab a copy of Happy Medium … or maybe you should just start at the beginning and read all three books straight through!

If you can’t stand the heat, stay away from old flames.

Under the Caribbean Sun, Book 3

The second Antonnis Prinsen sees his old flame, he knows she’s the lifeline to keep him from drowning in his brother’s matrimonial mayhem. It’s been years since they’ve talked, but surely by now she understands that a clean break was best. Instead of making a smooth re-introduction into her life, he finds his path blocked by a giant iguana. And Kristin looking at him as if he’s lower than the reptile.

Kristin Taylor spent her youth tangled up in Antonnis, but then he cut ties and disappeared. Now she leads a full and orderly life—until she finds herself walking down the aisle beside him. Thank goodness, it’s only to see his brother and her friend tie the knot.

Except Antonnis seems intent on picking up where they left off, and she has to admit she still has a weakness for him. Especially when he tempts her with an irresistible offer—one hot night, and this time she gets the chance to leave him cold.

Antonnis Prinsen’s brother had all been bitten by the matrimonial bug, and Antonnis is determined to remain immune. Kristin Taylor has grown up from the impressionable teen Antonnis left behind, but a part of her had never moved on from the hurt inflicted by Antonnis when he’d left without a word. Despite knowing he’d returned, she’d hoped to minimize the pain of exposure to him. Being a bridesmaid for her good friend – and knowing Antonnis would be a groomsman for his brother – she resigned herself to a few very awkward, uncomfortable days. But the heat that flares between them hasn’t dimmed, despite time and distance, and Antonnis isn’t going to let Kristin pretend there’s nothing between them, not when he’s discovering just how deep his feelings for her run.

This is a fun, wonderful summery read. Antonnis is definitely used to being in control and in charge of all around him. Despite his initial vehement statements against wedded bliss, he soon changes his tune when he bumps into Kristin once more. I was a bit surprised he seemed genuinely puzzled to find her so hurt by his past actions. After four summers of flings together, when he stopped communicating with her entirely “to make a clean cut easier for her” it didn’t seem like the most intelligent explanation for his actions, and his puzzlement at his ignoring her multiple attempts at communicating seemed a bit thin. But Antonnis is quite arrogant and while I might be able to chalk it up to “male idiocy” it came across to me as quite unfeeling of him. Kristin I understood much easier. She’s determined not to fall into the same honey-trap of Antonnis’ good looks and charming personality. Privately, I’d have liked her to hold out a little longer – she really had been deeply hurt – but it’s clear from the start her heart still belongs to him so I can’t blame her for succumbing to his passionate kisses and hot embrace.

This book is seriously sizzling. The sex between Kristin and Antonnis is smoking hot and not something to share with sweeter or more traditional readers. I didn’t find any of the scenes offensive or out of control, but they’re very explicit and won’t be to everyone’s tastes. It was fairly clear to me that this is one book in the middle of a series, I’d think two of Antonnis’s brothers would have their own book and I feel two of the secondary characters in this one should certainly either have or be getting their own Happily Ever After. But there was no real need to have read any of the other stories to follow along here, which is something I particularly like. I hate feeling like I’m missing required background simply because I pick a story up in the wrong order. The author is to be commended for me not feeling like I missed a beat here.

I enjoyed reading Kristin and Antonnis get their happily ever after, mingled in with plenty of sexy scenes, repairing of heartbreak and honest communication. While the plot isn’t particularly new, I enjoyed the characters, with a strong cast of important and well fleshed out secondary characters and plenty of scenic, beachy Caribbean holiday fun. Great for a summer read, or one where you wish it was a bright, hot day outside.

A duchess should be regal, aloof and the image of calm elegance. But those words have never applied to Mercy, Duchess of Romsey. A widow and mother of a young duke, Mercy is lonely and floundering to keep the estate afloat. When she discovers the existence of Leopold Randall, her husband’s estranged cousin, Mercy commits to help him locate his missing siblings if he’ll return the estate to order. Although cautioned against trusting a man who would inherit everything should her son die, she impetuously hands over the estate to Leopold’s care in the hope of keeping him near.

Leopold Randall, heir to the young duke, has returned to Hampshire to demand information regarding the fate of his missing siblings. Unfortunately, the Duchess of Romsey is clueless about them, yet her struggle to maintain the estate tugs at Leopold’s sense of duty. At her insistence, he steps in to bring order to chaos while searching for hints to his family’s whereabouts amongst the old duke’s papers. Yet the duchess tempts him in ways best unspoken. He fights to hide his weakness for her and a shameful past that could see him banished again. But when Leopold discovers a threat against the duchess and young duke’s life, he must join forces with the temptress to protect his last known relative.

Blackmail, intrigue, secrets and forbidden love are at the core of this book.

When the old Duke of Romsey and his son die, they leave a four year old boy as the Duke. His heir is a cousin, Leopold Randall who has been in exile in India for many years. Kept away from Romsey Abbey by blackmail threats, Leopold is now free to return to England to discover the whereabouts of his two brothers and sister. What he hadn’t counted on was the young Duke’s attractive and impulsive mother.

At first this book appeared to be like most historical romances. Man and woman fall in love, but circumstances keep them apart. This was not the case this time. The Duke and his mother are in danger, and before the hero discovers this, he agrees to put the estate back in order in return for the Duchess allowing him to search for clues of his lost siblings. The couple’s main attraction for each other brings them into many breathtaking situations.

I like the way the author wove the intrigue with the romance, bringing together the characters in an intertwining dance as each strand of mystery untangled. As in most regency style romances, keeping the lady’s reputation unstained is paramount, although in this case the heroine’s sour faced sister seems more than able to ensure nothing will happen. It’s well worth reading to the end as the author has a surprise in store in the last few chapters. No I’m not going to reveal what it is. Read the book and find out. Lovely book, gripping read and “wow” ending.

Double crossing the devil is a dangerous business.

Karmic Consultants, Book 7

Nearly two decades ago, Prometheus sold his beating heart to a devil in exchange for epic power. That contract is about to expire—and so is he. There’s only one woman with the power to help him see his next birthday. And he’s willing to use every manipulation in his arsenal to pry that power from the ice queen’s grip.

Karma, who values order above all else, has had enough of the unscrupulous warlock’s pranks endangering her people. But when she confronts the wily trickster to demand a cease-fire, his terms throw her for a loop. The bastard wants her to save his life—and he wants her in his bed.

One kiss brings her defenses crashing down. But can she trust Prometheus…or has she lost her own heart to a warlock with a hidden agenda?

This latest episode in Vivi Andrews’ Karmic Consultants series finally takes a look at the life and thoughts of Karma, the woman behind Karmic Consultants, and it has been a delight to uncover the person that keeps everything moving along on an even keel at the agency. I have enjoyed learning more about her, discovering that she is not always the calm and controlled one running the show. I like this world Ms. Andrews has built, and the characters she has inhabited this world with.

If you want something found, if you need your new house exorcised, if strange things keep happening, the ones to call are the Karmic Consultants. As head of the agency, Karma Cox has someone to handle just about anything you could name.

After a particularly rough spell, she is approached by dark magic wielder Prometheus, a thorn in her side for far too long. He used his magic to get her attention, because he needs her help to regain something he sold two centuries ago…his heart. Prometheus sold his heart to a devil two hundred years ago for nearly unlimited power, never thinking that the time would come when the contract would be due. Now, he needs the vast power that Karma can wield to help locate his heart so he can steal it back. But first, he must convince Karma to release the rigid control she keeps on her chaotic reserves, and he plans his seduction carefully.

Karma Cox is strong and powerful, but her power frightens her. So she keeps a tight control over her power, and hides her desires from everyone she knows. She is smart, talented and extremely loyal to her friends and family, and tries to protect everyone in her circle. I liked seeing a different side of Karma, especially as she fought her attraction to Prometheus, and the softer side she so seldom lets show was delightful.

Prometheus is powerful, and he is the first to admit he is not a good person. But he isn’t fully evil, either, and as this story moves along, I liked watching him slowly discover the part of him that got hidden away so long ago when he sold his heart. He is determined to get back what he so foolishly sold, and I liked that he went from determined and uncaring to someone who realized that he actually needed someone’s help; Karma’s help. I enjoyed watching the seduction of Karma, especially as it soon became apparent she wasn’t the only one being seduced here.

There are several barriers to Karma and Prometheus’ happy ever after, and some involve Karma’s friends and family. And there are a few surprising supporters of Prometheus’ pursuit of Karma as well, also in her immediate circle. There is laughter, romance and lots of heat here, and one very funny scene when Prometheus gets Karma drunk and, well, things happen; unusual and slightly funny and unexpected things. I enjoyed seeing all of the past characters put in cameo appearances here, and catching up with old friends from other books. Do Karma and Prometheus find their middle ground and their happy ever after? It took some work, but yes they did. It was a hard fought battle, but so worth what they ended up with, finally. I recommend this for everyone who needs some powerful magic in their lives and their romances.

Celebrities all suffer from the same disease. I call it the create-your-own-reality disease. Most of them start out normal, like you and me, but somewhere along the way they lose sight of up and down, left and right, and then eventually right and wrong.

It’s my job to fix that.

Who hires me? Agents usually. Producers sometimes. Occasionally a spouse or other concerned family member (although I’m usually skeptical of those calls, but that’s another story). They know they can trust me to be professional, discrete, and above all, not personally involved with my clients. I come in, I take over their lives, and I get them back on track. Help them remember what it’s like to be an average Joe.

I attribute my success to my take-no-prisoner’s attitude. I don’t have time for games or playing around. I’ve closed down every job in thirty days or less, and no one, not even the most outrageous celebrity screw-up will ever change that, hard as they might try.

Scarlett Barnes has another name she goes by sometimes. People call her The Normalizer when they need her to take care of a certain kind of problem. A certain kind of Hollywood problem.

She is the pro and they call her The Normalizer. She is the one they call when everything else has failed. She always gets the results she wants. She can hire and fire people…if you are fired, you will NEVER be allowed back. This is how she can guarantee results. No one who is enabling the drug addiction will ever be allowed to destroy the work that she does rehabilitating her charge.

Tarin and his current girlfriend, Jelly, are both at the point where their impending downfall is just a breath away. The complex relationship that develops between Scarlett, Tarin and Jelly is the driving force in this story. Jelly is the enabler, refusing to admit that drugs and alcohol are killing her. Scarlett is trying to save Tarin and so Jelly must go if she continues to enable the drug use.

The author makes us feel the pain of the addict, as Jelly continues to use drugs and loses all her integrity trying to score her next fix. It’s frightening to see how her addiction had her in such a stronghold that she was physically unable to think about anything else but her next fix.

At certain points in the story, I was ready to knock Tarin in the head to make him realize how he was throwing his life away. However, as the story continued, I felt deeply for him and his struggle to clean up, as I began to understand the guilt he was carrying. The feelings Tarin and Scarlett share lead him to understand his addiction and hope for a new beginning.

This book is an honest look at drug and alcohol abuse and the effects it has on everyone’s lives. The journey is not an easy one. The author does a stupendous job of showing us how the addict has to struggle to remain sober and clean, focusing solely on controlling the urges to score or drink while reaching for life through hope of a new beginning. There is death, betrayal, suicide, but there also is renewal and hope, which in the end makes the journey worthwhile.

Howl of the Wolf is the final episode in N.J. Walters’ intriguing short series, and it is a very fitting conclusion to this adventure. I fell in love with this world, where myth and reality blend into a dark and exciting place. The characters continue to enchant, and I will be visiting them again now that I have all four to enjoy. The threads of each story are brought together here, with solutions that were unexpected and yet so very appropriate for all concerned.

Sabrina Wolfe has always believed her spirit guide is a wolf. As a tarot card reader and artist, she has always known there are things that can’t be explained by logic. But when she buys a statue of a wolf from an old, derelict carousel, she gets more than she bargained for. When the wolf comes to life, and shifts into the very sexy and handsome Arand, she believes she is dreaming, because her dreams of late have been of wolves and demons and horrible future happenings. Arand has to convince Sabrina that what is happening is real, and that the two of them are the last chance to stop Hades from waging war with his brethren and destroying the world as they know it. Arand is the last of a group of immortal warriors, cursed by their goddess into their beast forms until the one woman who can awaken them is found. Can these two escape Hades for the twenty-four hours necessary to win their freedom? Is there anyone who can come to their aid? Or will this final battle for it all signal the downfall of the world?

Sabrina Wolfe is a talented artist, and has an inner strength that guides her life and her tarot readings. She thinks that she is crazy when the carved carousel wolf in her apartment becomes a living, breathing wolf, and then shifts into a sexy naked man. But once she is convinced that everything is really happening, she draws on her inner core of strength to work side by side with Arand to bring defeat to Hades and his demons. I enjoyed watching as Sabrina learned what she would live for, and even what she was willing to die for.

Arand is the last of The Lady’s warriors to live again, and he is determined to stop Hades from his plan to take over the world. He is strong, handsome and loyal, and realizes that Sabrina is his mate. He is determined to do what it takes to protect her, defeat Hades, and unite with the remaining warriors. I like Arand, with his no-nonsense attitude and his loyalty to his brethren. And also for his devotion to The Lady, and now, also, to Sabrina. I liked seeing him adapt to modern life, and I loved his joy at reuniting with Roric, Marko and Leander, his fellow warriors.

This is Hades’ last shot at complete domination, and he is determined to pull out all the big guns to get this done. But there are secret agendas on both sides, and surprises for all in this final adventure. The reunion of the surviving warriors, the secret behind all of Mordecai’s actions, and the surprise visit to Hades by his brother gods, all combine to make this the most action pack and exciting of the series. Of course, the scenes between Arand and Sabrina are hot and passionate, as only N.J. Walters can write them, but there are a couple of scenes that grabbed me and would not let go. Ms. Walters made me laugh, she made me cry, and she made me want to return to this world of myth and magic and romance. I highly recommend the Hades Carnival series to anyone who likes magic and myth with their romance, and to best enjoy these books, they should be read in the following order: Night of the Tiger, Mark of the Bear, Pride of the Lion and Howl of the Wolf.

When a designer drug rocks the small town of New Brighton and makes junkies spontaneously combust, Paramedic Jayda Swenson suspects the super-methamphetamine her husband created before his death has resurfaced. She’s worked hard to create a safe, tidy life and put her meth-ravaged past behind her. Jayda has a secret to keep and her new life is the perfect cover. But when tourists start disappearing and charred body remains crop up, Jayda learns the hard way that this drug doesn’t just fry people’s minds—it also fuels demons.

Luckily, the sexy new medic, Ben Tierney, is a demon-hunter in disguise, except his demon-busting powers don’t work so well anymore. Until he realizes Jayda’s touch can refuel the energy he’s lost—a touch she’s not so willing to dish out. Now Jayda finds herself wedged between an ancient demon that knows her past and her secret, and Ben, who has plenty of secrets of his own. Fighting to hold onto her carefully controlled life, Jayda must decide if she’ll let Ben help her defeat the demons who threaten to infect the town by the 4th of July—even if it means exposing her true self and losing everything. Again.

How did EMTs and the supernatural get mixed up? This is only the start of a series of surprises in Elizabeth Otto’s novel. Four times, I thought I had the plot fixed in my head and everything worked out…then I was proved wrong. It’s hard for authors to do this continually without the surprises becoming predictable or unrealistic but Otto manages this balance perfectly.
Here is a list of the main benefits of ultrasound are: The increase in blood flow to the sildenafil online purchase erectile tissue of the penis swells and stiffens. Noticing symptoms and alerting you to unhealthy behaviors is helped by medical professionals. purchase generic cialis It allows them to revise the education they have received from the online course and it remains fresh and clear in cialis pills free the mind. Jayda is introduced to a new world slowly and only learns a little at a time but the reader knows far more about Ben and his background. We are lead to believe we know everything and yet, multiple times, are mislead. Even the evil character in this book surprises. Otto uses different techniques to achieve this – foreshadowing and not mentioning certain things and people among them. What is really great to see is how invisible this craft is, hiding the warning subtly rather than framing it with bookends. I often didn’t realise something big and new was coming until it did.

In addition, the surprises work around a hot romance. Jayda and Ben have initial hiccoughs but the bedroom activity made me sweat with their passion. They are a hot headed couple who often get angry and argue but they work it out and this interchange leaves me more than a little boneless as I read. Their romance is not one for those who can’t take the pressure of frequent (and descriptive) sex but it is great if you like lust and broken emotional barriers.

There is the odd typo here and there but this does not detract from the reading. The only thing holding me back from giving this book a full rating is the speed of plot progression in the last scenes. The connections and explanations of the surprises sprung on the reader are hastily drawn together with little time to dwell on each new piece of information. I also thought Jayda’s final climatic decision during the last face off with evil was badly thought through by her and therefore uncharacteristic of her usually methodical character.

However, Otto’s book holds together and shows a wealth of information and detail about the medical profession. There is brilliant description of both hospitals and the medical life as well as the slum, druggy life and its effects. The novel contains a passion for humankind – their sorrows and regrets, at all ages, with no judgement as to which one is worse- which stands out. There is a message to be had here in that we can all be changed to good as well as find new love, no matter how deep our sorrows and pain.
