Trapped in the middle of five siblings, Everly Lancaster always had big dreams. Now a top real-estate executive, Everly finds her work is her life, leaving no space for anything (or anyone) else. Sensing her stress, Everly’s boss insists she take December off. At first, a month away seems crazy—how will the company survive without her? But Everly’s mother convinces her otherwise. She deserves a vacation—plus, when she returns, she’ll have no excuse to skip family Christmas like she did last year.

But after her vengeful assistant books a guided cruise in the Amazon instead of the luxury beach vacation she expected, Everly is horrified to realize that she’s about to spend the next two weeks trapped—with no Wi-Fi!—in the rain forest. Not even Asher Adams, the ship’s charming naturalist, can convince Everly that the trip will be unforgettable. Slowly but surely, she realizes he is right: the sights are spectacular. And with each passing day, Everly’s relationship with Asher deepens, forcing her to take a long, hard look at her priorities.

Everly and Asher begin to see magic in the possibility of a life together. But as the cruise nears its end, and Everly’s family Christmas approaches, both must decide if love is worth the risk. A merry surprise may be in store in Debbie Macomber’s newest holiday delight.

A+ for originality. This a must read. I consider myself lucky to have read this story. I was stuck for hours in an airport in Chicago without a book to read. I went to the book store and this was the only romance book available to buy. I couldn’t put it down once I started it. The synopsis reveals quite a bit of the plot but not all of it. So, if it appeals to you as it did me then don’t hesitate to pick it up.

I was completely smitten with the hero, Asher Adams. I’m pretty sure Asher could take me to the worst place on earth and I’d still love being there if he was with me. The heroine, Everly, was endearing and hilarious. Together, Everly and Asher were heartwarming. I couldn’t get enough of their sweet chemistry.

There are other characters that are well developed and compliment the storyline such as Asher’s and Everly’s relatives. The narrative wouldn’t be the same without their support. No family is perfect but Christmas is about miracles. Quoting the synopsis at this time is necessary for this review. “A merry surprise may be in store in this heartfelt novel”. I couldn’t have said that any better.

I can think of a few stockings that need to be filled with this book. “Jingle All the Way” was a well written, fun and entertaining read. I was ho, ho, ho-ing my way through the Chicago airport all the way home. I definitely recommend this book.

Free-spirited, living on the fly, Vanessa Hayes is still always down for traditional family holiday fun—until now. She’s making her oft-delayed wish finally come true: Christmas in Paris, the glittering City of Lights. But when her passport gets delayed, it’s too late for Vanessa to rebook. Now it looks like the Yuletide she longs for won’t happen. Until a stranger suddenly enters her life, and changes it forever . . .

Overwhelmed by responsibility, Judith Guthrie is too busy worrying about her seriously ill brother to have time to celebrate. She’s taken a leave from her teaching job to care for him as he’s on the waiting list for a life-giving transplant. A trip to France is a kind of happiness she can’t imagine. But when she accidentally receives Vanessa’s passport, Judith can’t resist delivering it in person so Vanessa will at least have her holiday dream. She can’t anticipate that her small gesture will result in a series of big choices, big miracles, and lifelong rewards that all will be thankful for over many Christmases to come . . .

Is it fate?

The story is told from Vanessa Hayes’s point of view. The story seemed more of a high level overview than an in-depth get to know the characters that I am use to when reading the author’s writing style. This was an okay read. I finished it but didn’t quite get the normal excitement that I usually get when I read a Mary Monroe novel.

I enjoyed seeing Vanessa, a single 32-year-old woman enjoying her life and taking care of herself and helping her family. Her long time dream of going to Paris is halted when her passport didn’t arrive in time for her scheduled trip during Christmas. Because of the mishap with the postal service, it turns out she’ll receive another once in a lifetime opportunity. Unfortunately after Vanessa’s trip has been cancelled Judith Ann Guthrie knocks on Vanessa’s door to deliver the delayed passport. Here’s where things got strange for me, but who am I to say it could very well be divine intervention. Vanessa Googles Judith and gives her a call. The phone rung six times before Judith answered. For some reason Vanessa is eager to meet with Judith again. Judith invites a stranger to come to her home. While there the ladies have a bonding moment as well as Vanessa meeting Ronald, Judith’s brother who is in need of a kidney.

There were minor details that didn’t make this book a great read. I wasn’t able to connect with the characters. As I mentioned Vanessa has a loving personality but her life was just not that interesting to me. The book tells a lot about her with her family and friends and maybe it was the lack of drama that made the story bland.

However, I enjoyed the good hearted unselfishness on Vanessa’s part. She’s a lovely soul and she deserves to have someone just as loving. The story is a little easy to predict. I enjoyed how the author made me wonder and work for the ending. I knew there was going to be a happy ending but it wasn’t as instant as I thought. Here comes fate again. What are the chances of Vanessa and Ronald showing up at the same theater, to watch the same movie at the same time?

It’s not a holiday story but it is heartwarming and a story about family, unexpected friendship and helping others. It’s a nice read.

In this joyous and whimsical holiday novel, Debbie Macomber rings in the season with the return of Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy, delivering laughs, love, and a charming dose of angelic intervention.

Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy know that an angel’s work is never done, especially during a time as wondrous as New Year’s Eve. With an apprentice angel, Will, under their wings, they descend upon Times Square in New York City eager to join in the festivities. And when Will spies two lonely strangers in the crowd, he decides midnight is the perfect time to lend a heavenly helping hand.

Lucie Farrara and Aren Fairchild meet after bumping into each other—seemingly by accident—in Times Square on New Year’s Eve. They immediately hit it off and find they have a lot in common: Lucie is a burgeoning chef and Aren is a respected food critic. But just as quickly as they’re brought together, another twist of fate tears them apart, leaving Lucie and Aren with no way to reconnect.

A year later, Lucie is the chef of an acclaimed new restaurant and Aren is a successful columnist for a major New York newspaper. For all the time that’s passed, the two have not forgotten their one serendipitous evening—and neither have Shirley, Goodness, Mercy, and Will. To reunite the young couple, the angels cook up a brilliant plan: mix true love, a second chance, and a generous sprinkle of mischief to create an unforgettable Christmas miracle.

I recently came across a book called Angels at the Table… I remembered a series by Debbie Macomber that I loved and immediately read the synopsis. Yep! Shirley, Goodness and Mercy were back at it but this time with an apprentice angel, Will. This is not a religious book at all. It’s a sweet enchanting holiday romance with comedy. I couldn’t believe my luck to run across this particular story, one that I have not read yet.

I was a huge fan of Debbie Macomber years ago. It all began in 1993 with the book “A Season of Angels”. Humans are complicated and they send prayer requests to God and he sends down angels to help answer the prayers without interfering. However, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are absolutely hilarious. They can’t seem to guide without meddling. Each year I looked forward to the next holiday release. “1994 had Trouble with Angels, 1995 was Touched by Angels, 1999 – A Gift to Last, and 2003 was Those Christmas Angels. I just finished Angels at the Table and loved it! Each book includes those endearing angels of Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, doing their thing as only they can do.

I can’t recommend this book or series enough. It’s pure Christmas magic and as of today, Christmas is only a few months away. This particular novel, Angels at the Table, is the most romantic story in the series I’ve read and it’s between Lucie the heroine and Aren, the hero. Their relationship was, shall we say, ‘divine’. All the books can be read as a standalone so it’s okay to start with this story.

Once I started reading this book it was impossible to put down. It’s light, fluffy, humorous and heartwarming. It left me with the feeling of hope, peace and joy. I’m ready to put up my Christmas tree! But, since I’m writing this review on only the second day of Autumn, LOL, I guess I’ll have to wait. Meanwhile, I’m going to find the 2007 release that I missed.

Modern-day witch Cassie Moore’s cozy life turns upside down when her friend foresees the wrecking ball that threatens to destroy Cassie’s home and workplace. But Cassie isn’t giving up without a fight. She casts a well-intended spell meant to save her apartment and her job. But magic is unpredictable, especially when her friend casts a little charm of her own that has Cassie lusting after the man she desperately wants to despise.

Jack Quinn has had his eyes on Lakeside Books for years. He has big plans for the cozy waterfront property, but he didn’t expect to care about the store or its employees. And he never imagined he’d be drawn to a certain brown-eyed saleswoman.

Almost as if by magic.

This novella is the perfect story for when a reader is short on time but needs a quick fix of romance. Merry Little Wishing Spritz made me smile, grin, giggle and thoroughly entertained me. It kind of reminded me of Samantha in Bewitched, and when Cassie spoke to her cat, Smudge, it brought to mind a fond memory of Bell, Book and Candle when Gillian, the female lead, talks to her cat, Pyewacket. The thing is with this story, it’s more upbeat, sweet and playful with a happy ever after ending that left me happy and content.

I’m of the opinion that this story would make a delightful holiday movie which could be watched not only at Christmas, because of the mistletoe, but Halloween too, because good solid romance movies can span the holidays that happen towards the end of the year. I would really enjoy watching all the little pranks Cassie played on Jack. He was a good sport about it all – not suspecting a thing, of course. The scene with the reindeer made me grin.

The supporting cast is pretty much one person, Peyton, Cassie’s best friend. She’s the heroine’s cheerleader, confidant and conspirator in getting Cassie to open up to the possibility that Jack may not be like all the other losers Cassie had dated in the past. She was a perfect best friend and I liked her personality.

It was a stroke of genius to include the topic of gift giving to those in the community that had no one to give them gifts. Cassie and Peyton dressed up as adorable elves and that’s another reason why I could see this book being made into a film. There were so many details that touched the heart, coaxed emotions and feelings, and brought to life their little part of the world.

Merry Little Wishing Spritz is a happy romance story that includes a little paranormal zing of witchy wonderfulness to spice up the fun as Cassie and Jack fall in love. I’m glad I found this little gem and I believe a lot of readers are in for a treat when they read this book for themselves.

Because she’s stuck with a horrible partner as she treks out to see the park for herself.

Even if it means spending a week with the annoyingly perfect—and even more annoyingly pretty—other finalist.

Or maybe it’s the magic of Christmas working on them? Because the adventure park neither cared about turns out to be exactly what helps them find what they truly need in life…each other.

I was in the mood to read a Christmas story in the month of June. I was lucky to find this Christi Barth book. I recently enjoyed a book by this author so I decided to give her a second try. I was not disappointed at all. In fact I wanted to put up my Christmas tree and play some holiday music.

My mom likes to read what she calls, “smut free” romance books. This book was so sweet and innocent that I just have to buy it for her to read. It’s the perfect book to read at Christmastime with some hot cocoa, or in my case, during the summer. It hit all the feel good spots. When I finished reading this book I noticed that the Hallmark Channel is playing Christmas movies in June. Apparently, I’m not the only one who needed to feel a little Christmas spirit.

While I was reading The Magic of Christmas, it brought me back to my childhood. The Christmas-themed resort that the hero, Jeremy, and the heroine, Rowan, are trying to revive is very similar to one that actually exists in Putney, VT. Of course it’s not the same resort but it was easy for me to visualize the setting in which this story is set.

The writing style is easy on the eyes from beginning to end. The synopsis pretty much sums up the plot which is fine with me because the story-line was creative and ingenious for a contemporary romance. It makes for a light, fluffy and easy read without any surprises. The characters are well developed and relatable.

Jeremy and Rowan made for a heartwarming romance. Just as the synopsis states, “their rivalry wanes and attraction grows, will Jeremy and Rowan embrace the magic of Christmas?” I sure did.

This was my second Christi Barth book and I know it won’t be my last. There is a book that I’m waiting to read in one of her series. I’m going to officially put Christi Barth on my new favorite author to-read list. I hope others will enjoy this book as much as I did.

Emily Diemer, who cooks for the guests, dotes on Snowball, but she’s not thrilled about another new arrival at the B&B: Miss Tilly’s nephew, Lukas. Which is odd, because Snowball’s animal instincts tell her that Lukas and Emily should definitely be friends.

Everything Emily needs is in this quaint community—including, she hopes, the chance to open her own bakery one day. She doesn’t think much of Lukas for leaving his aging aunt to struggle while he jets around the world taking photographs. But now that he’s here, helping to spruce up the property and getting mixed up in Snowball’s antics, she begins to soften a little. Until she learns what he has planned . . .

Lukas is going to sell Weber Haus so that Miss Tilly can retire. But Snowball is certain that this B&B, and these people, are supposed to be her forever home. Somehow she has to get these stubborn humans to see things through the wisdom of a cat’s eye and a kitten’s loyal, loving heart . . .

I’ll start right out with this book seems like it’s tailor-made for being made into a TV movie. It’s got an adorable kitten, an auntie that needs help, plus two people who need each other even if they don’t realize it. It’s truly cute. The writing flows well and I was drawn right into the story. I wanted to root for the characters and loved little Snowball. Lukas is dreamy and he could come to my house to do some home improvement if he’s available.

The one quibble I had with this book was Emily. I like forthright characters. I like the ones who know what they want and won’t quit until they get it. I like characters with ridiculously tremendous drive. Emily is all these things and more, but the one thing she is that drove me bonkers has to be her drive to the point of being off-putting. Some readers might just see her as strong, but it’s almost like she’s got a savior complex. If she’s not saving it, then it won’t be saved. That’s nice, but it got to be too much at times. I wanted to see her warm to Lukas and understand he had a stake in the property, too, but maybe a little faster. While this wasn’t my favorite part of the story, it might be perfectly fine for other readers and that’s great.

Lukas is a flawed character. He’s got his plate full and has a life he wants to live, but I liked that he quickly adapts to what’s thrown his way. He’s handsome and willing to help, even if he’s too busy trying not to get in Emily’s way.

The whole thing truly seems like it was written to be made into a TV movie. The writing was such that I could see the little B&B house, that I could see the characters and feel like I was there. I could almost smell the baked goods Emily made. The Christmas feel is all around in this story, too.

If you want a book that’s cute and sweet, then this might be the holiday read you’re looking for. Try it!

Tatum was an adorable little girl who stole so many scenes in this novella. I adored getting to know her. She was a creative and joyful five-year-old who often changed her mind about what she wanted to eat, drink, or do next. Sometimes I giggled at how quickly she leapt from one topic to the next. She truly felt like a child of that age from her active imagination to her unwavering belief that her father could fix anything.

I would have liked to see a little more attention paid to Jada and Graham’s character development. The chemistry between them was fabulous, but I didn’t get to know them as individuals as well as I would have preferred to get to know them. They both had some painful past experiences that could have easily been explored in greater detail. I definitely saw a lot of potential for them to be healing influences in each other’s lives. It simply would have been nice to spend more time learning about who they were as human beings before any romantic sparks began flying between them.

Sprucewood, Colorado was a sleepy little town that I quickly fell in love with. The people there were loving, accepting, and genuinely kind. I couldn’t have imagined a nicer place for Jada to visit while she digested the terribly sad news she’d just received from her family doctor. She needed a soft place to land while she pondered her options, and that’s exactly what she found in this community.

Snowflake Cottage was a gentle, heartwarming read about what it truly means to be a family.

Everything is better at Christmas time.

Reece and Callie had fantastic chemistry. They might have seemed to be polar opposites at first glance, but they shared much more in common than I originally assumed. Figuring out what those commonalities were was a great deal of fun, especially once they began to slowly draw these two lonely souls together. The more I learned about them, the stronger my hope became that they’d figure out a way to find their happily ever after.

While I generally wouldn’t expect to see as much character development in a short story as I would in something full-length, it would have been helpful to have more character development here. Everyone felt a bit flat to me, especially when it came to Reece and Callie. They both shared information about their pasts and personalities that piqued my curiosity, but there simply wasn’t enough time spent developing those parts of these protagonists in order for them to come alive for this reader.

The Christmas spirit was strong in this tale, and I’m not talking about decorations, presents, or delicious food even though there was plenty of that stuff to go around. Callie and her grandmother truly understood what Christmas is all about on a deeper level. I can’t go into too much detail about how they convinced me of that without giving away spoilers, but I can say I was pleased by how these characters demonstrated their genuine love of this time of the year.

There was a scene early on that made me chuckle. Let’s just say that Hailey’s behavior when someone sexually harassed her while she was trying to relax and have a good time was as on point for her personality as it was surprising for this genre. I was proud of how she handled that situation and immediately interested in getting to know her better.

I would have liked to see more time spent resolving the conflicts between Hailey and Clark. They definitely had chemistry, but their previous experiences with each other had caused so many bad feelings that I was expecting a longer period of hashing things out. They both had good reasons to dislike and mistrust each other. I needed more evidence that they’d fixed those issues before they moved on to anything else.

One of the most refreshing things about this story was the way it compared life in a small town to life in a big city. The characters all had different preferences about where they’d ideally like to live, but everyone expressed those views in a positive way and without putting down others for wanting to live in a smaller or bigger place. They also were quick to acknowledge the benefits and drawbacks of either choice. This nuanced approach to deciding where to live is something I love seeing and hope will become much more common in the future.

Thanksgiving Dinner should be read by anyone who has ever wondered what their cute high school classmates might be up to these days.
