It’s a believable pain that Lucas, the hero, suffers and once I found out what it was, it was very sad. The sniffles came towards the last half of the book when one of his best friends hatches a plan that, although risky, produced feelings of tentative hope and happy tears because of the participants in that scene. I wouldn’t put it past readers to melt into a pile of goo when it comes to the toast part.

One of the participants of the drama is Emma, the intrepid heroine. I say intrepid because she has such a strong sense of duty, she ends up personifying the Mailman’s Creed, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from being as dedicated as the mailman…”. Truthfully, Emma ends up taking things a bit farther than expected and the results are scorching. Then they become the elephant in the room. How she navigates these passionate feelings for her boss is one of the more entertaining and fascinating elements of this story.

Of course, a tycoon and a savvy and powerful businessman has to have a wary and cynical view of the world. Women don’t want Lucas for his brains and art but what lines his pockets. There’s the requisite troublesome female but what I liked about Emma is her ability to see through their shenanigans. The author side-stepped that cliché quite thoroughly by making the heroine smart, capable and pretty much a type A personality – gold-digging she-cats don’t stand a chance against her. Nor does, Lucas. When Emma is guided by secondary character Avery Scott in how to dress, it was awesome. Why? Because a reader gets to see Lucas, a very self-contained man, come unglued. He starts acting very unlike himself and it was adorably entertaining.

This book also refers to the Ferrara family and it was a treat for me because I’ve been able to read quite a few of their romances. I adore world-building like this because when an author does include previous heroes and heroines from past books to help the present protagonists, it gives me the warm and fuzzies. Probably because they were awesome books in and of themselves and Ms. Morgan knows her characters so well, a reader gets little reminders of why they appealed in the first place. They have ‘presence” and Lucas fits in perfectly.

A Night of No Return romances a reader’s emotions with a wonderful and touching story spiced with the special kind of loving Ms. Morgan writes so well. It’s a book about people. She once again explores what makes us human, and our ability to be healed by the love of our friends and that one special person that cares for us deeply despite and in spite of all our faults. If a reader is looking for a “feel good” book, then this one satisfies.

Interestingly enough, I ‘met’ Avery in one of Ms. Morgan’s previous books and based upon a few comments that were made in that story, it was inevitable that I’d eventually see Avery as the main heroine at some point. This is her turn in the spotlight and wow, what a powerhouse of a lady. She’s driven, focused, has amazing determination and business savvy and plays her cards so close to her chest, she never reveals even the tiniest hint that’s she is not in charge at all times. Doesn’t she sound uptight? I mean, she’s successful in the book, but it’s come at a cost. And for a person, man or woman, to be that controlling, doesn’t that trigger some questions? As an avid reader of romance, I knew that the heroine was hiding behind that control. What I couldn’t have guessed in a hundred years was the secret.

Malik, or as Avery and close friends call him, Mal, was another controlled and dominate character. At first I saw him as Avery saw him – a man who didn’t love, who kept women at arm’s length and who was so not into her that as soon as they separated, became engaged to another woman. I was not a fan of Mal. That is until the author lets readers into his head. Until at one point Mal does open up to the heroine and what gets revealed is an amazing and heart wrenching picture of what it is to be Prince Malik. At that moment, and a credit to the author’s writing, I was very sympathetic to his character. In fact I felt bad for him. And for Avery. They have an incredible amount of emotional baggage, they’re both hurting and they both need the strengths found in each other to heal.

What I found most intriguing was Avery’s eventual secret. A few comments that she made during her internal dialogue gave me hints that I put together about what it might be. It turns out that I was right. It was interesting but on the other hand, I am unsure whether or not such a situation would be that much of a stumbling block to love. I can see the stress that it might cause, but the massive amount of importance that Avery attached to it seemed overwrought. Then there was her mother. For a character that was never on stage, she sure was a bizarre nutcase with some serious hang-ups and phobias. Descriptions alone had my hackles rising in defense of Avery. And that text was so cold! It’s not a wonder the heroine had some serious relationship issues.

My favorite part is when Malik has his “Aha!” moment. When he finally got to see a crack in Avery’s armor and realized a very important fact previously missed is when the momentum of the plot picked up speed and it got really interesting. Before that, I was just as frustrated as the two of them.

This story is solely focused on two people who were hurt once before and being able to get a second chance at love. It comes about in a most unlikely and twisted manner and I sort of found it funny. It seemed to me, once I’d read it, that they both really wanted the second chance but simply could not find a way to make it happen. They were too stubborn, boneheaded and hurt. And yet as oddball as it was, they eventually rationalized how much perfect sense it made, and henceforth drove each other nuts with smoldering looks, passionate remembrances and yearnings that drove their libidos up the wall. It definitely made for interesting reading. Ms. Morgan really put her characters through an emotional wringer in this one.

Even though her role is a small one, my absolute favorite secondary character is Chloe. She completely cracked me up. And what she does at the end gave me the giggles. What a cutie.

Woman in a Sheikh’s World takes readers on an exotic adventure filled with passion between two personalities with enough charisma and conflicts to make Clash of the Titans seem tame. Two strong people who have too many secrets, who fear revealing them enough that they almost let the best thing that could ever happen to them slip away. But for once, Mal’s stubbornness and ability to focus on the end goal finally has a clear path and nothing is going to stand in his way, even if that stumbling block is Avery herself. It’s a well written romance with a happily ever after that satisfies while educating me on why doves are better than swans. Both had their reasons for doing what they did and their rationalizations were solid – until a reader gets the other side of the story. It’s that delving into what makes a relationship work between a man and woman who seem to be at complete odds with each other which makes Ms. Morgan’s books so fun and easy to read.

Matteo is a protector. He knows his responsibilities to his country and his family and will do anything he believes has to be done in order to keep them safe and away from scandal. A reader may think his solution was a bit farfetched but in reality, his actions are a symptom. His brain, logic and coolness under pressure is being undermined by the effect Izzy has on his libido. I had great fun watching him delude himself. However, what the author revealed about the hero, what he really spends his time doing, what happened to him in his past and why he didn’t trust women, were some of the more impressive revelations in the book.

On the other hand, Izzy was a sweet surprise. I liked her. I also was bowled over with how the author used a piano as a means to showcase how wonderful the heroine truly was, and how wrong the hero ended up being. Izzy is smart, earnest and talented in her own way. She’s the family underdog that no one ever took the time to get to know. She didn’t let it stop her thanks to her stubborn streak. Izzy also has a fun sense of life and I adored the part with the fountain and what it signifies later on. My heart went out to the heroine when she revealed what her childhood years were like. She’s a well written heroine.

In Defying the Prince, the emotional conflict and ultimate resolution drove the plot, the dialogue was enlightening and the seduction scenes were delightfully steamy. The author never let the story get maudlin during the big emotional reveals and used the right amount of humor, outrage and lust to keep the hero and heroine interesting.

Defying the Prince offers a lot of heart, heat and humor for romance readers who enjoy stories that make the main characters work for their happily ever afters. Ms. Morgan has another winner and I enjoyed getting to know Izzy and Matteo. Pick up your own copy for your own great experience with a prince.

I love a book that keeps me riveted to my seat. Guardian of the Night is one of those books. Ms Thomas-Sundstrom has created, in around three hundred pages, a great tale filled with intrigue, action and lots of romance. I identified with the characters and wanted to see them get their heart’s desire as well as solve the mystery.

I liked Faith. She’s on a mission and nothing will keep her from finding her sister–except Mason. Her determination is palpable. There’s all kinds of things happening to her, including coming to terms with who she is, and there’s a lot of soul searching. Same thing for Mason. The guy isn’t supposed to be with her. She’s Lycan and a woman. He’s a vampire. In many books, this would just be written off as ‘no they can’t be together but they are’. Thomas-Sundstrom makes the characters suffer and really think about what they want. It’s not a light, quick red, but certainly pulled me in. He doesn’t want to taint the blood line, but he really, really wants her.

If you want a book that will not only entertain you, but will have you craving more, then this might be the book for you.

Although a regency romance, the characters in this books were not the usual type for this period. More outgoing and natural they were not hung up by the inhibitions of the period. Beatrix was a lovely lady who had her mind set on her independence, while Simon wanted to have his cake and eat it too. I won’t say which one, if either, won as this would spoil the plot.

The fast pace and the fun between the two main characters, plus the typecasting of the lesser characters, makes this well worth a read even if you don’t normally love regencies.

The secondary characters, other than Neetie, are pretty much in the background and are used mostly to propel the story along as Court and Maggie overcome past traumas, work together to tend the sick while struggling to find where their priorities really are. Learning not to be stymied by what is past and cannot be changed and to live in the present and plan for the future, happens slowing as they fight the elements in Ghana to keep Neetie alive and come to terms with life in Boston. Each must find his / her own heart’s deepest need before they can commit to the poignant love that makes them complete.

Susan Carlisle engaging writing style brings alive the culture of the Mamprusi people, the weather, harsh living conditions in Ghana, and the struggle to meet medical needs of the people. The Nurse He Shouldn’t Notice throbs with life as Ms. Carlisle’s descriptions tantalize the senses. Heat, rain, mud, storms, smells, sounds add to tensions and fears in many of the scenes. Ms. Carlisle creates an unbreakable emotional connection between Maggie and Court even though their worlds seem vastly different. Her love scenes and compelling way with special words and acts reach out and touch the heart. Good Reading!

She still suffers from her parents’ lack of concern for her as they dragged her from one get-rich scheme to another, all the time arguing with each other. As a matter of fact, events from her past seem to pretty much rule her present and her plans for the future to excess.

Hamilton has his own baggage from the past about family and relationships. His past is quite different than Ruby’s, it still controls much in his decision making for the present and the future. He does not want a permanent relationship but he finds Ruby breathtaking. She’s charming, sweet, intelligent, practical, caring, brave, and sends his body into overdrive. But her goals and his are miles apart.

As these two work together, their attraction to each other grows. Professionally they are a perfect fit. But they are stymied. They continue to let the past rule—which slows the story for me at times. It takes a life-threatening event for things to come clear so they can live in the now and look to the future rather than always looking to the past.

The culture of the Outback, the extremes of the weather, and the unique secondary characters, their humor, eccentricities, and sense of community, give the reader a touch of Australia. Surviving and thriving in the Outback takes courage, common-sense, and lots of working together.

Ruby and Hamilton’s happy-ever –after promises to be full of adventure and stability because love finds a way to make dreams come true.

Carla Neggers’ strong characters, even the secondary ones, and her skill in weaving together multiple secrets and sub-plots into the main plot make HERON’S COVE spellbinding.

Emma’s analytical, measured, never impulsive approach to a situation along with her unique connection to the art world make her a valuable asset to Matt Yankowski’s team in the FBI. While Colin’s bold, aggressive, “go-it-alone, instinctive methods make him a ghost that serves the FBI well. BUT, when their worlds get tangled both personally and professionally, Matt Yankowski says it’s like opening two cans of worms on steroids—volatile—explosive.

Emma’s intriguing connection with billionaire Russian Dmitri Rusakov and Ivan Alexander keeps Colin off-balance and edgy, but his not-to-be-denied attraction to and need for Emma makes him determine to keep her close—preferably in his house, in his bed.

If you read SAINT’S GATE, you probably feel like it is reunion time—so good to catch up with these characters, But, there’s little time for visiting. Former client of the Sharpes, Russian billionaire Dmitri Rusakov brings his fancy yacht to Heron’s Cove. His friend and body guard Ivan Alexander, who has a special place in his heart for Emma, is aboard. They bring trouble, trouble that connects to Colin’s illegal arms trouble. My goodness, what a tangle things get in when tiny, feisty Tatiana and sophisticated Natalie stir the pot.

The way Ms. Neggers makes every little piece fit together and her vivid descriptions amazes. She pulls the reader into the environment so completely one can almost feel the October rain in Maine, feel the squish of mud under foot, and shiver with Tatiana hidden by the canoe. One feels the unspoken fear in the characters. The desire and uneasiness in Emma and Colin’s relationship as it ebbs and flows like the tide keeps the reader turning pages as they move in fits and spurts toward a happy-ever-after that will never, ever, be dull.

HERON’S COVE teems with intriguing characters like Finian who is so much more than a priest: Andy, the rake, at least according to Julianne Maloney; and Mike Donovan that lives in isolation much of the time and seems gruff, but whom Emma knows has a romantic heart. Maybe Ms. Neggers will tell us their stories some day. HERON’S COVE is a keeper to be enjoyed more than once.

The plot line of this story is what intrigued me, well, that and the sexy cowboys. Dana is out to prove something to others, but most importantly to herself. With or without Paul, her husband, she can take care of herself. I have always considered myself a strong independent woman so this personality trait really hit home for me. So did the fact that sometimes independence and the need to prove something can hurt us just as much as it helps. This is a life lesson Dana had to learn. Though Dana did not make the lesson any easier on herself, it sure did create an interesting read.

If there is really a man out there like Ben, I sure would like to meet him. Ben just seems a little too perfect for me. I have met some men who are reliable and give to others, but Ben just seems to give, and give, and give while taking nothing for himself. While this is a trait I enjoyed reading about in a man, at some point it made it almost too unbelievable. In the end the same characteristics that made Ben perfect, proved to be his Achilles heel as well. With that said, if you are looking for a sexy cowboy who exhibits everything attractive about a cowboy then you sure have come to the right book. He makes something as simple as household maintenance sexy and exciting.

The romantic development is something that left me a longing for more. The relationship between these two is definitely hot and cold. For example, whenever they begin to heat up too much, cold water is thrown on them to cool it down a bit. While I understood the author’s reasoning for this, and it helped explain the individual as well as romantic development, I wish there was just a bit more hot going on without the cooling. More connection that is physical would have been nice. The author however, made small simple gestures truly meaningful. It made me think about how important those small things in a relationship are. For instance, just simple heated looks towards one another or feeling someone’s body heat as you sit next to them made the scenes scorch.

Any time a story makes me reflect on my own personal life, I consider it a winner and Barbara White Daille definitely has a winner with Honorable Rancher.
