When Dane gets tricked into doing something, readers see his weak side. Does that make him less likable? What happens as a result includes frolicking action and high emotions.
The magic and the mystical weave around the human, the mundane, to add mystery and enhance the world, or rather worlds, created in the story. When the likeable secondary characters show integrity and courage, they find themselves facing serious trouble and a well-developed, complex villain.
