Grace isn’t one to like but readers may love to hate her. She’s a strong spirit that’s not shy and gives off a memorable presence. She has a way with people that’s persuasive but it’s also scary. Monica obviously didn’t take any of her mother’s dominate characteristics or she’s a sucker for her mother’s love. I was hoping Monica would catch on and see what was going on. Monica was my less favorite character because she was so trusting, insecure and naive. Troy, Monica’s husband, is someone I wanted to not like because of his personal attack on his marriage but in the end my view of him changed for the better.

I enjoyed the storyline because it’s something new I haven’t read before. The author did a good job in giving the story what it needed to be well rounded. A daughter without the love of her mother would be open and accepting to have her absence mother present in her life. I would like for the author to have given more of Grace’s story and how she became who she is. I read the story pretty quickly because the plot is very interesting and I couldn’t wait to see how the story played out. The author’s talent for writing paranormal I’m surprised his name isn’t listed with other popular paranormal authors. His knack for creating such a storyline full of characters and a paranormal situations that is fully developed, easy to follow and leaves reader wanting more.

Any book by this author would be highly recommend for those that enjoy paranormal.

I enjoyed the plot. The author took something that’s probably common and whipped it into a love story. I enjoyed how Mekhi and Jacintha evolved. He had an open mind to listen. He gave respect for her craft and her audience. Their relationship was quick. If I had a one night stand this is how I would want it to turn out. For a tough guy who it seems had no future of having any type of serious relationship Mekhi not only spoke but gave action behind his feelings for Jacintha. It was refreshing to see such a sweet budding relationship develop and grow between Mekhi and Jacintha.

The title of the book doesn’t really go with the story. After finishing the book I’m replaying it in my mind to see where the title ties in. While reading the book I couldn’t help but wonder would a author or publishing company reach out to book reviewers to ask that they stifle their voice in giving a bad review? And would a negative review have such a negative impact to discourage others from reading it? I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion and what one person doesn’t like I may like it and the same goes for a book that I may love and write a raving review about, someone else may not like it.

I enjoyed the characters. Even though the characters didn’t have a full back story, they were likable. I am curious to know more about Mekhi and Jacintha and how they both became who they are in their careers. Mekhi’s history with Karin, the critic for the literary division of For the People, sounds like it would be a good story to read about. I liked that Jacintha went to her mother after she over heard the conversation between Karin and Mekhi. Her mother gave her sound advise that made Jacintha think and see things a different way. That was a sweet mother-daughter moment.

This is a well written and creative read. No real surprise ending but readers will still want to know how the story ends.

Since Ellie’s absence from the family her parents have divorced and the relationship between her mother and her sister Hanna is at odds due to the distance between the two. My favorite character is Laurel because her natural instinct is to protect and shelter her home, children and family. Laurel is caring, and has a love for others which is noted on several occasions through out the book. I wanted good things to happen to Laurel, but I know whatever that is it wouldn’t replace her daughter.

How far would a woman go to have a child? When evil shows up it’s sometimes not easy to recognize it. After being in its presence it will eventually show its ugly head. Ellie saw this glimpse of evil and when she tried to be rid of it, it struck back. Without a doubt a reader could very well predict what happened but shouldn’t reward themselves too soon because the full story isn’t told until the very end.

I enjoyed reading the different perspective’s of the characters. The author masterfully weaved the characters’ voices to give a full complete story. Their various perspectives give the story full dimension. The present and past viewpoints helped me fill in the coordinates with the thoughts and voices of Ellie and Noelle.

Highly recommend to readers who enjoy a brilliant plot twist that includes some dark subject matter.

This is the second book in the series and before reading this book I didn’t read the first book. I use to read a lot of Mary Monroe’s books but at some point I stopped keep up with her latest writings and I am sorry that I didn’t because I’ve surely missed out. I enjoy her writing style and the way she tells a story with such lively memorable characters. As soon as I finished this book I started reading book one.

The characters are authentic and the dialogue is believable and humorous. I enjoyed Yvonne and Milton’s solid love for each other. Yvonne loved Milton despite that others thought he wasn’t that attractive to look at. Another favorite character of mine was Willie Frank. Willie Frank is a true friend to Milton and Yvonne. He and Milton were thick as thieves in their get rich quick schemes. Even though they are up to no good I still felt the need to hope the outcome for them was good. The grammar is perfect for the setting of the late 1930’s. The detailed description of the food, the town and its people puts the reader right in the midst of the south.

Milton and Yvonne have made enough money to move to a better neighborhood where the wealthier colored people live. Because of their background of prison and being lower class, their new neighbors Joyce and Odell seem to look down on Milton and Yvonne because of their lack of education and upbringing. Joyce’s holier-than-thou act impacts Yvonne, and her husband gets an ear full each time Yvonne’s feelings are hurt. But remember there are two sides to every story and we are only hearing Yvonne’s side to her conversations with Joyce. Milton also has to hear from his wife how wonderful Odell is but it doesn’t bother Milton as much as it should to hear his wife boast about another man because Milton knows a secret about Odell. Reading the antics that Milton goes through with his habit of gambling and his bad money habits is tiresome. While reading I keep wondering, at what point will he learn? I knew something was bound to happen, that Milton couldn’t keep going the way he was going so the ending wasn’t a total surprise. I was more surprised of the details that happened at the ending. Let me warn readers that this book didn’t bring about closure. A third book in the series is expected and I will be waiting for the release date!

I enjoyed the story and found it very entertaining. Once I started reading it I didn’t want to put it down. Milton and Yvonne are characters whose personalities stayed with me long after I finished reading the book.

I inadvertently read book two of the series first that tells Milton and Yvonne’s story. Compared to Milton and Yvonne, Joyce and Odell’s story doesn’t seem as exciting. Their lives are pretty much quiet and don’t have as much action. Odell’s upbringing wasn’t as rich as Joyce’s but they still find a fit that works for them as a couple. I like how the author made the characters so diverse in their background even though they are all from the same town. Joyce seems a little naïve to me but for some reason I feel that she too has a secret. Her life can’t be as boring as it is.

I enjoyed reading Joyce and Odell’s story. I like how the author split the story to tell from all viewpoints. In this book the reader gets to see Joyce’s point of view and how she feels about Yvonne and how men react to Yvonne’s beauty. I kind of feel sorry for Joyce because she seems so alone and she still seems like an outcast because she doesn’t have any close friends and she pretends to be someone she’s not. I want something good to happen for Joyce. Yes she has a handsome husband and a wealthy upbringing but her story made me feel like she’s not living a life like those around her.

If I had to pick characters that I liked best, it would be Joyce’s parents Millie and Preston. They are honest and straight-forward with no filter in what they say, even to their own daughter. They don’t worry about hurting her feelings or covering up what they suspect. Even though he started out as a good guy in my eyes, Odell ended up being my least favorite because of his weakness and secrets. By the end of the book he has dug himself so deep I know he’ll either do anything to keep his secret or anything is liable to happen that will cause his world to crash just like the economy during this time period.

This book wasn’t as funny as book two but it showed a more serious side of real life things like miscarriage, infidelity and those dealing with low self esteem.  I enjoyed the book and I can’t wait to read what will happen next in the series.

He’s feeling like he isn’t understood and that he doesn’t bring value to the family as his other brothers and sisters do. He decides to take a break away from it all, partly to see if his family even notices that he’s gone and partly to do what Rio enjoys – have fun and enjoy the luxury of his lifestyle. In the big city of Baltimore, trouble surely does find him.

In this story Corey, Diana, Dre and Pierre are introduced. Corey Parks, owner of the night club Wet Dreams, has inherited his father’s drug business. In his line of business, Corey has a secret that he feels can’t be told so he take measures to cover up his secret. Corey also owns Chic World where Diana works as a sought after fashion stylist. Rio’s desire for fashion is how he meets Diana. And so it begins – this is a quick read with a moving plot that Carl Weber is known for. I didn’t want to put the book down until I had finished the story. The authors touched on a sensitive subject of sexuality, those that fear it and those that also hide from it. The story was done in good taste but some of the name calling could be offensive to some readers.  Also, this book has a same sex relationship, though there’s not any sexual action, I still feel the need to mention this in my review since the character’s sexuality is heavily mentioned in the storyline.

As with the books before this author knows how to keep the readers interest. He’s a professional storyteller whose characters range from ordinary to eccentric to treacherous. Rio is the eccentric portion of that, and readers will also find the treacherous side in this read. That’s what makes his writing so entertaining the plot is attention catching but he also has well developed characters that draw the readers into their thoughts and mannerisms. Reading his books is not just a story it’s getting to really know someone.

There are secrets that will be revealed. My attention was so focused on one portion of the plot that I didn’t realize there was more to it until it was revealed.

I enjoyed reading Rio’s story and I can say that Rio can hold his own and definitely prove that he is a Duncan. I loved how the family showed Rio that he is part of the family. This is an entertaining read that I would recommend.

I was entertained by the plot, and the author’s humorous writing style. I enjoyed the characters. I loved their liveliness and the realness of their personalities. The children’s antics were a joy to read. I enjoyed following the individual growth of Brooke and Mindy and I also relished seeing the sisters growing in their relationship and watching the bond strengthen between them.

I liked Mindy and I can understand and relate to her overload of having an absentee husband and three active little ones. The reader gets to see Mindy’s breakdown but we also get to see her pick herself back up. The character I liked least was Brooke. I didn’t understand why she stayed away so long and why she felt that she couldn’t share her secrets with her sister. Mindy has a kind heart and they grew up close so I didn’t understand why Brooke felt the need to leave Mindy in the dark during a time when she needed family and the love of her sister. Brooke begins to see that her sister isn’t perfect. Mindy is a woman that plans and organizes when Brooke is the type of person that freelances life. Both in their brokenness will they be able to piece back their relationship?

I enjoyed the relationship between Mindy and Linc. Linc stepped up to the plate and understood his wife’s cry for help and took action. For some reason I didn’t care much for Brooke and Garrett’s relationship. I wanted them to be together but the fact they couldn’t get past their personal hurdles because of themselves didn’t make for a good fit in the storyline. They weren’t happy apart but couldn’t see their way to be together. Readers will definitely feel the attraction of Brook to Garrett because it is mentioned several times throughout the book.

I was pleased with Garrett and his dad’s rebuilding a son/dad relationship. Garrett’s kind heart and forgiveness was touching. I liked Garrett. Because of his childhood he could have been bitter and unforgiving but this wasn’t his outcome.

Despite the few dislikes I did enjoy the mix of family, rebuilding relationships, revealing secrets and romance made this an overall good read that I would recommend.

This story is dark and disturbing but also intriguing. The writers developed an attention grabbing plot accompanied with very well developed characters. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started reading the book. The location started out at a high school campus so my first thought was not another lack luster teen romance. I was definitely wrong! The writing was very much on point and I can’t think of anything that I would have done differently. The way the authors gave such in-depth reality to Beau’s character, his thoughts, and his actions took great skill and research. Beau is a character to be feared and the way he controlled his actions to reach is ultimate goal was sick and manipulative. Beau is a ticking time bomb. His parents know and have seen the monstrous side and yet they let him go on as if he didn’t have a problem. His father is a workaholic, his mother is a drunk and while they think Beau has himself under control, Beau’s evil is slowly being revealed.

Beau has his sights on his girlfriend’s headstrong twin sister, Leslie. Beau commits unspeakable acts to several women victims and he ensures their silence with threats and intimidation. There is sexual violence and torture that may not be suitable for some readers. I don’t take violence against anyone lightly but I understand that some details had to be mentioned to give the full depth of Beau’s madness. Without the scene it would have been left to the readers imagination of what level of madness Beau could go to. Beau’s sick obsession is written and plotted out so well. Dawn, Beau’s girlfriend, is in love with the idea of being with someone of Beau’s caliber and unfortunately for her she does not see him for who he truly is. Leslie sees the type of guy Beau is and tries to warn her sister. This difference causes a divide between the sisters.

Will the Moore daughters ever get past their differences? Will the perfect image Beau has been portraying ever crumble?

I enjoyed the writer’s writing style so well that I will look to see what other books they’ve written. I highly recommend this read for readers that are able to tolerate violence in their young adult mysteries.

Yes this is a turn off for me that a woman would envy what another woman has but the final outcome gives satisfaction for her superficial actions that she so pernicious plotted throughout the book.

Jackson Parrish is a powerful force to be reckoned with. Jackson has a evil dark side and potential readers should be warned that Jackson is involved in assault and sexual violence that some readers may find offensive.

I like how the author divided the book with two narrators so that the reader can hear both voices.

I enjoyed the book. I couldn’t wait to tell my other reader friends that they have to read this book, that this is a story that must be read. This would be a great book for book clubs to discuss. The author’s writing style had me anxiously awaiting the next page. I couldn’t read it fast enough. If only I could put work, sleep and eating on hold until I was able to finish this book. I liked that the book isn’t a cliff hanger and the author gave it a closed ending.

I can definitely see this becoming a movie, so if you want to get ahead of the release date go ahead and add this book to the top of your reading list.

Each character makes poor choice that leads to their circumstances. Evelyn was attending nursing school when she met Renard and became pregnant with Jackie. T.C. is recently released from jail for growing and selling marijuana. T.C. is the youngest of the generation. Will he break the family curse and be the one to make the right decision for a change?

I enjoyed how the author created and shared three generation in one story. Each character had their own personality and struggle and each of their stories were shared and lapsed to where it pieced together where the old generation’s story ended. The flow of the novel had a rhythm that was easy to follow. I like that I wasn’t able to tell ahead what was going to happen in the end. While reading I hoped that things would turn out a certain way but they didn’t.

I would have liked for the author to have mentioned the characters’ relationship more. I think I understood the ties to each story but would have liked the confirmation from the author. After finishing the book I was left with the question of what kind of freedom the author was trying to relay to readers. Maybe it is some underlying message that I didn’t pick up on.

A brave move by the author in her success in weaving three generations together in one heart stopping finale. Life isn’t easy and this is a story of generations that has endured. I enjoyed reading the story of the characters and while reading I was hoping good things would start happening for them. My first thought after finishing the book was that it was sad. I felt sad that the family went through so much and couldn’t get to a happy ending.

This book has such an amazing plot that I can see the author expanding into telling the stories of the other family members. Even though I couldn’t relate the title with the story I would like to read more from this author. Life isn’t always happy and many don’t get that happy ending and that’s what draws me to read more by this author because of her unflinching honesty of how life sometimes can be.
