I’ve not read anything by Monica Ferris and was drawn to this book, quite frankly, because of the cat on the cover. I’m a sucker for books with cats in them. I liked that this one was a toy. I’m not a knitter or crocheter. I don’t know my knit two from a purl one. I didn’t need to know anything about knitting to enjoy this book. There is a lot going on in this story.

The writing is crisp and kept me going. I didn’t want to put it down. I’m looking forward to more by this author. Some might be bogged down in the details of knitting aspect of the story. They might be a little confused by some of the product mentions, too. I have no idea what the stuff was the characters discussed stuffing their knitted critters with and it didn’t bother me.

I have to admit, I had no idea who’d committed the murders until the end. I read for the sheer excitement of reading and wasn’t looking for the specific clues on who killed the others. But there were moments when certain things stuck out. I also got a little confused on the sheer amount of characters and character points of view. I did like that the world is so rich and that there is more going on in the story than just the murder. Nothing ever happens in a vacuum. I rather enjoyed the side story of Raphael and Godwin, the gay couple looking to get married. Again, it’s a small town situation and there are always things going on in ever direction.

If you want a cozy mystery that’s a little different and has a knitting theme, then this might be the book for you. Give it a try.

I picked up this book because I wanted to read about someone’s journey with their dog. A journey to a better them. I’ll be honest, on the surface, this is a cute book. Girl has problems in life, girl thinks she’s at rock bottom, girl gets dog. Life looks up and she’s happy. The writing is paced well and I wanted to learn more about the author and Sadie, her dog.

But things went a tad off the rails for me. I totally understood the author’s hesitancy to get a dog. Some people aren’t dog people. There’s no crime in saying you’re not a pet person. The dog grew on her. Again, I get it. Sometimes you don’t know what you can do until you’re tasked to do it. Where this took some turns I wasn’t expecting and wasn’t a fan of involved how she crated the dog at night. It’s a personal thing. Some readers might not be bothered. I was. Then there was the diet aspect of the book. The lengths this author went to find quiet food so the dog wouldn’t know she was eating was a little odd. Dogs have keen hearing. I swear they know when you’re thinking about opening something to eat and show up. Some of her diet advice was interesting, too. Her advice involved, in a nutshell, moving around before you eat. Cool, but you have to go with the dog’s schedule–at least I do. The author wrote like these discoveries, like not getting your coffee until the dog has eaten and pottied, were revelations. Maybe I’ve had dogs for so long this was all second nature. I don’t know. I thought this would be more of a memoir and that was the part I liked the best.

I did like the book, though. I liked reading about her travels with Sadie, the author’s being slowly won over by the dog and how the author came to realize dogs are work, but they’re not nearly as bad as she thought. The author’s stories and way of writing were crisp, so check this book out. It might be just what you’re looking for.

There’s a lot of medical information in the book, but don’t let that distract you. The two characters, Kirri and Ty are both damaged. I liked seeing them try to find a way together and the way his daughter warmed up to Kirri was great.

If you want a story that’s sweet, simple and a great way to spend an afternoon, then you can’t go wrong with Risking Her Heart on the Single Dad.

When I first started reading this book my thoughts were, oh no a sixteen-year-old boy that’s girl crazy, I’m not sure if this is the book for me,  a forty-six-year-old female. I am so glad that I continued reading. This book is so much more than a sixteen year old being crazy over every cute girl he sees. This book is about family …dysfunctional, abnormal, broken families. Paulie has only heard about his dad’s side of the family and, this summer, he’s about to take a road trip from Chicago to Pennsylvania with a dad who he’s not that close with.

I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s writing. I looked forward to each chapter to see what Paulie was getting into. Following Paulie’s point of view through out the book was well written from a teen’s point of view. Though the topics of the book are a variety of deep subject matter, Paulie’s personality adds in a taste of humor. I think the storyline is unique and very well told. I felt that the author gave a lot in making the story so full of lively characters and events. I enjoyed seeing Paulie’s growth. He stared out as an unpopular kids with one friend, and mediocre grades. Now he is being faced with meeting a family he doesn’t know, in a small town where everyone knows everybody. The first day he lay eyes on Guinevere Thompson, a girl who has three mean and bullying brothers and a evil father.

As the story advances I was proud of Paulie at the end. He went from a guy who didn’t have a voice around girls to standing up to bullies, taking chances on being punished by his dad for not listening. Paulie matured into a teenager with courage and heart. Though the book is told by a teen and about a teen, the story evokes subject matter that may not be suitable for teens. The subject matter, though hard to digest I think is what set the book apart from other teen love stories. I would like to read more about Paulie as he adjusted to his return home. You’ll miss a great experience if you don’t read this book.

The paranormal genre is something I read regularly. With that being said, I can’t remember the last time I read about characters who not only sought out scientific explanations for the bizarre things they experienced in haunted locations but tried to find a way to stop them using logic among other tools. While I can’t go into much detail about this part of the plot without giving away spoilers, I was quite happy with how these characters responded. They were immensely sensible!

I struggled to remember who all of the characters were in this book. Not only were dozens of them introduced, they were written about in ways that didn’t always make it immediately clear who was going to be important to the plot in the longterm and who might only be mentioned occasionally. As interested as I was in the storyline itself, this made it harder to stay engaged with what was going on than I would have like to be.

Some of the most interesting scenes were the ones that featured paranormal content. Mr. Herold did a great job of explaining what was happening in them, especially when it came to showing how the character who was able to see spirits dealt with her special ability. This was something that brought plenty of complications to her life, so I was glad to see how much attention was paid both to her ability and the dead people who tried to get her attention.

The Eidola Project should be read by anyone who is a fan of ghost stories.

I’ve not read another by Thea Harrison, so when I saw this book, it was a treat. I had to pick it up. I’m glad I did. The writing flowed well and I read this story in a matter of hours. I knew what was going on, despite this being a book in the middle of a series, and understood the characters.

It’s a quick read. There’s a lot of time spent on Dragos and his mate, Pia. I didn’t mind that, but the mystery aspect of the story seemed almost forgotten. I did like the smaller plot point that revolved around Pia, but since I hadn’t read any of the other books in the series, that sort of took away from the enjoyment—I didn’t realize how hard this plot point was for her.

Still, there’s mystery, mayhem and a few twists I didn’t see coming. Check this book out, but be sure to start at the beginning so you get the most out of each story.

London is a very well-developed character who has been raised in a strict Japanese family. Their parents do not show any emotions as they are buried under decorum, she was also raised to respect her elders and that it was her job to take care of her brother. She is a woman of a lot of virtues, strength, a large heart, determination and bravery. London has a really cool gift as it seems like all the were-jaguars have their own special gifts. Hers is being able to help those that have passed away. She is able to see their final moments and that somehow makes it easier for the person’s soul to let go of their bodies and move on.

Breeze is a character with a lot of problems from his youth that affects him every single day. The only time he feels some peace is when he is with London. His parents died when he as young and he was placed with his uncle. Unfortunately, his uncle turned out to be abusive, which had him ending up in the hospital several times. I also enjoyed the fact that he also burglarizes the rich and give to the poor, just like Robin Hood. He is a man who does not like to follow the rules but he has a large amount of loneliness. The only thing that seems to keep the loneliness somewhat at bay was having a job, although he doesn’t really consider the team friends. He also has some trust issues. He has a lot of trouble sleeping as the nightmares keep coming of all the times he was injured or emotionally abused by his uncle.

The characters were well-developed with strong personalities and tragedies in their family. Breeze had to get over his abuse and London had to deal with emotionally cold parents.  The only thing I thought could have been drawn out a bit more is the attraction between Breeze and London. It’s a pet peeve of mine when someone falls in love at first sight. Of course, there is such a thing of as soul mates and maybe that’s what they were to each other.

This is a wonderful story full of some of my favorite elements: shifters, magic, and a great romance. Try it today.

Monty was such a likeable guy. He was quirkier than most kids his age, but the hobbies and mannerisms that made him stand out from the crowd were also what made him so interesting. Yes, some of Monty’s quirks lead to him being bullied because of how his classmates misunderstood him and he misunderstood them at times. I thought the scenes that showed him being mistreated by the other students at his school were realistic and well written. While this definitely isn’t true for every case of bullying, Monty did need to learn how to polish up a few of his social skills in this particular situation, and his classmates needed to learn how to be more accepting of people who march to the beat of their own drum. The author struck a nice balance between showing how both of those things can be true simultaneously while still having a lot of compassion for a kid who’s had to adjust to far too many new schools in his short lifetime.

This was one of those cases where a blurb fairly reveals the basic plot of a book while still leaving plenty of surprises for a reader to discover for themselves. I was intrigued by the little I knew when I started reading it, and I quickly realized that I enjoyed this tale twice as much as I originally thought I would. I obviously can’t go into specific details here, but I will say that this felt like something that underpromised an already attention-grabbing storyline only to over-deliver on exactly how much fun it was to read. It’s pretty marvellous when that happens!

The character development was handled beautifully. I especially appreciated seeing all of the ways in which Monty grew and changed as a person as a result of everything that happened to him during the course of this storyline. He matured so nicely while still remaining true to who he’d been all along.

Monty and the Monster is a must-read for anyone who has ever had to deal with bullying or experiments that don’t necessarily go the way they’re expected to.

This is a long book with plenty of action going on, both in and out of the sheets. I enjoyed hearing about all four main characters but Damon is the one who stole into my heart. Gotta love a nerdy Alpha! In no way was he weak but he got his pleasure in making sure Kara was looked after in every way.

I think the thing that did it for me was the constant addressing of the trust issue between all four of them. I got it the first time, maybe the second emphasized the problem, but after that, it became superfluous.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait for Liam & co’s story! I would recommend reading this series but it is not necessary to get the most out of this book, as it stands alone fine. Absolutely recommended by me.

What an absolutely charming book! This is the first of the series I’ve had the chance to read, but it will by no means be the last one. In fact, I have already ordered the first two and can hardly wait to read them. However, it is not necessary to have read the first two books in order to enjoy this third volume. I was never lost, but would like to see how Mary gets involved with Mrs. Murray and the Brownies (what fun they are… there were some moments when I literally laughed out loud at some of the antics).

Ms. Orford has the ability to draw the reader in and let them feel like they are right there in the moment with the other characters. The action was non-stop and kept me on the edge of my seat as Mary strives against her greatest enemy.

Thanks for a wonderful read, Ms. Orford. I’m looking forward to Mary’s next adventure.
