I also could appreciate the added complication of Caitlyn’s ex, Adam, and the holes Caitlyn kept on unintentionally digging for herself. With a slow, sweet pace to the story I feel this should appeal to a wide variety of readers.

I enjoyed the plot – finding it both refreshingly different and complicated enough to maintain my interest. Greg has a few unresolved issues with his family and Caitlyn’s character came across to me as a little adrift. I was pleased that they both found ways to help each other – and thus stay in each other’s orbit – as they slowly got to know one other. This helped the story roll along at a good – albeit slow – pace and I really enjoyed watching everything unfurl as the story progressed.

I don’t feel that readers looking for an intense or action-packed story will find this here, but I am certain that anyone looking for a lovely, sweet and character-driven ship-board romance style of story should definitely check this out. There is just the one chaste kiss right at the very end of the story – but I feel this style of slow romance will make the story more suitable to a wider range of readers.

With interesting and complicated characters, a strong off-ship presence of both plot and characters and plenty of conflict with the third-wheel-ex-fiance I found this to be a well written, interesting and lovely full length story.

Both of them have serious issues to contend with though and it is done in such a way to make them ‘nice’ people without giving the reader tooth decay.

There was also one scene where it looked like communication had faltered but Nikki decided not to be a pushover and to find out what had happened. For me, this was the turning point of the book as it could have gone oh so very differently without them talking to each other. I like a bit of angst but not when it’s completely unnecessary.

This is the third book in the series and yet I would definitely say you can read it as a standalone, as I have. Following on from this one, I would love to read the others. Absolutely recommended by me.

I’ve read other books by Caitlin Doughty and enjoyed them quite a bit. I realize that sounds strange since this book, like her others, is about death. Most people think it’s morbid or yucky to consider death. It’s even yuckier to think about what happens to us when we die. This book treats the subject head-on and it’s rather refreshing.

This book isn’t all death, doom and gloom. There is a bit of introspection, a lot of details about her life and work at the crematorium, plus people and death. The author discusses how some people simply accept the death of loved ones, others write the loved ones off and still more can’t quite let go. The stories of the bodies coming in are somewhat gross. There are moments that made me cry, too, like with the babies. But this isn’t the story of the babies or the bodies. It’s how the author grows and changes through her work at the crematorium. From her insistent desire not to be cremated and how she’ll handle the death of her loved ones, to acceptance of the course of life.

It’s an eye-opening book, filled with anecdotes, love, trials and facts about death. If you’re interested, scared, or think this sounds like a good book, give it a try. It’s well worth the read.

I’ve been on a kick to read as much as I can about the space program. I’m not sure why. I’m not going to become a rocket scientist (I can’t balance chemical equations) and I don’t like heights. Mary Sherman Morgan is an interesting case. She did a lot to get herself to the point of working on the chemistry involved in rocketry. I liked Mary, despite the things she’d been through. Odd thing to say, don’t you think? If something bad could happen, it happened to Mary–a child born out of wedlock, having to get a job to pay her way through college, having to keep huge secrets because of her various jobs, then the unkindest cut of all: not getting credit for her work on the chemicals used to take rockets to space. I have to say, though, this is her son’s retelling of her life. There is some creative license taken. He recalls conversations from when she was a child and going through school. He probably knew OF the conversations but I doubt he knew the exact wording as Mary was very hesitant to speak about her life. I guess that’s why I liked her so much. I had a grandfather who refused to talk about certain parts of his life and could be very particular when he did speak. He tended to keep to himself, like Mary and wanted things just so. Honestly, the author’s creative license with some of the incidents was what took away from the story. I wanted to know what Mary created and how she got to that point, but some of the side stories, while they helped know her better, seemed to be just that…side stories.

Still, this is an interesting book and it’s written with love. The author might have been a tad estranged from his mother at times, partially due to her choosing, but he loved her. Grab this book if you’re looking for something for a few afternoons and want to step into someone else’s life.

That was my experience when I picked up my first Billionaire book by author (or should I says authors since it’s two ladies) Max Monroe. A true diamond in the rough world of self-publishing.

Milo is a self made billionaire and has the prior credit card debt to prove it. He’s found his niche in the tech world and has the New York social scene begging him for interviews. He has fast cars, an office AND a condo with a view and a great set of friends. He also also has plenty of attention from the fairer sex but, as he watches his friends settling down and finding love, it’s all pretty meaningless. He wants what Evan and Thatch and Quinn have. He wants to find that woman that makes waking up everyday just a little bit brighter. He wants true love.

The fact that he was open and honest, at least with himself, had me early in the book. And then I met Maybe. Mabel “Maybe” Willis has known and crushed on Milo since she was like twelve. Being her brothers best friend, he literally lived at their house for a while. The story is so fun and descriptive, I could see her adoration for the young man she remembered and then the near swooning over the man he became. And he didn’t even recognize her! Love this trope in a romance!

I don’t want to give too much away because this is a book I want others to discover and to love as much as I did. The dialogue is laugh out loud funny. I can honestly say I’ve never seen/heard those kinds of curse words. Ms Monroe is definitely of my generation and spoke directly to my fangirl heart with many of her pop culture references. I felt connected to the characters and therefore, I actually lost sleep to finish reading this one. That’s a good book!

Looking at the book catalogue for this author is appears that she/they write books in series of threes. I actually did read the book prior to this one, The Billionaire Boss Next Door. It too had me LOL’ing (for real) and I would most definitely recommend it as well. Book 3 is next on my list. Reading books 1 and 2 gave me a good dose of Milo’s friend Caplin. I need to see who tames this randy, sometimes over the top, fun lawyer!

Reader’s who haven’t already discovered Max Monroe but love a good rom-com, will love this series. A great cast of fictional friends who I want to visit time and again.

The character development was well done. This was true not only for Jarrod but also for many of the other people he spent time with at home and while smuggling alcohol across the border. I had a crystal clear picture in my mind of what everyone looked and sounded like. That’s always something I appreciate in a story, especially when it involves as many different folks as this one did. It made me want to keep reading until I learned what everyone’s fate was!

I would have liked to see a little more attention paid to wrapping up the ending, especially when it came to the health of Jarrod’s dad. Earlier scenes spent so much time exploring this topic and showing how Jarrod’s duties to his family were preventing him from reaching other goals. Many of the other subplots were resolved nicely. I would have given this book a five-star rating if this portion of the storyline was given as much attention.

There were times I felt like I’d actually travelled back in time to the 1920s due to how strong the world building was. The author clearly put a lot of effort into researching how farming families lived in this era. Everything from what people ate to how they kept themselves clean in a world where every warm bath required some prep work were described in exactly the right amount of detail.

This was an endearing love story. The timing of reading this book in my life was impeccable. Off the Market happens to be the second book in The Texas BBQ Brothers series but it certainly can be read as a standalone.

I related to the heroine on a personal level. Quinn,the heroine, was a library special programs director for the children’s summer program. I recently advocated for my local library to continue scheduling story time in my planned community development. A community of people in charge tried to cut the program because it didn’t generate money. When residents questioned the community staff they recanted cutting the program, blaming it on the library saying they introduced the idea of cutting the program due to scheduling conflicts. The residents don’t know who to believe.

Quinn is dealing with the same type of deceitfulness within her organization. Politics and money are interesting. Both are not something I’d ever consider when I think of a library. However, it’s clear that money rears its ugly head even in community service. When I first started reading Off the Market I was intrigued and then I was stunned when I started living Quinn’s life, literally. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a handsome restaurant owner such as the hero, Cole Hutchinson, coming to my rescue.

Together Quinn and Cole were the perfect couple. I appreciated how they were opposites and yet perfect complements to each other. I was happy that even though they’d known each other in the past, the reader wasn’t stuck reliving the past. It was refreshing how the story remained focused on the present. It was fun to watch them support each other as Quinn had to save face and fight to keep her job.

Off the Market was a fun, engaging read that kept my interest from the first page to the last. Speaking of the last page, the reader is in for treat, literally. I have to recommend this book for its original and creative writing style. This is more than just a romance book. It’s a refreshing pleasant surprise with more than a happily ever after ending. Definitely a worthy read.

This is the perfect book to read while sailing on a cruise. I was in heaven sitting in my lounge chair with my tropical drink of the day while reading One Night in Provence. This story made for the perfect escape while enjoying my “sea day”.

Jenna Brown, the heroine, and Philippe D’Usay, the hero, were adorable. I’m not sure how realistic this romance was but hey, that is what fantasies are for. I loved every minute of wishing I was Jenna and in Philippe’s arms. Philippe was book boyfriend worthy.

From the first page to the last I was glowing with a smile. Such a cute, fun and enjoyable read. This is the kind of romance book I grew up reading. I loved how Jenna was hard to get and Philippe was persistent. Did I mention how swoon worthy Philippe was? I didn’t need the gentle rock of the cruise ship to help me sway. lol.

I appreciated the writing style that enveloped me into the scene where I could see and smell the fields of Jasmine and Lavender.

This is actually book three in the Destination Brides series but don’t worry, it can definitely be read as a standalone.

This was a heartwarming love story. A classic romance with a happily ever after that left me feeling joy for the entirety of the book and after. One Night in Provence is an easy recommendation by me. I hope others enjoy it as much as I did.
