This book is the first one of a trilogy and Mr Pratchett has worked his usual magic. He shows a boy going through ‘Troubled Times’ with his parents, who can still find time and energy to help aliens. It doesn’t matter to Johnny that the aliens are part of a computer game.

Well done Mr Pratchett. While not as gripping as some of your other books, this is a story which makes the reader keep coming back to see what happens next.

In this way, it’s a very realistic parallel to a normal teenager’s life – work, school, friends and family all pull at your attention, demanding your full focus, even when it’s not available. However, he deals rather well with everything coming to pieces around him.

Katarina has her moments during Forest Heart. She’s strong and sure one chapter, and then the complete opposite the next. She becomes very self-involved at one point and I almost didn’t recognize her. However, my only complaint is that Forest Heart may have had just a bit too much going on for its own good. There isn’t so much that you will get lost, but sometimes you do feel a bit crowded.

All in all, it is a very good story and a natural progression for the series. An enjoyable, action-packed novel of the paranormal for adults young and old alike.

Although this isn’t a standard HEA, I must admit, I found the ending to be totally worth it and more than I expected. It showed the best in the characters and how even tough situations can bring out our true colors which don’t always have to be depressing.

While he makes his mistakes, I do believe that they’re all made for the right reasons. For me, Fred was the most relatable of the narrators and I could identify with his situation at home.

Zane is the minister’s son and the only kid from the right side of the tracks. Despite being rich, he feels like he doesn’t fit in with the kids from his own street so he hangs out on Kenmore where the kids are more honest and real. I appreciated her complete and total devotion to her brother and the honest way she interacted with everyone who passed her way. She still had hopes and dreams, even knowing that most would never come to fruition. But it didn’t stop her from hoping for a better life for them all.

Despite the rather bleak circumstances that set the stage for this coming of age novel, the trueness of the narrators’ voices shine through the darkness. I loved the way that the narrator changed, each revealing just a piece of the mystery surrounding the murder haunting Kenmore, giving you the briefest of glimpses into the answer to it all. Very well written in an easy to read style, Something Terrible Happened on Kenmore is a stark and yet hopeful portrait of a teenager’s life in Depression-Era Chicago. Things were by no means easy, but there was still hope on the horizon.

Rather, Star In The Middle provides a realistic portrayal of what happens when children have children and the complexities and heartbreak that can arise as a consequence.

Despite his introversion Eddy is a likeable character, totally unable to see how others tease him. He just doesn’t understand their jokes and sarcasm. He thinks others work things out the same way he does, and can’t believe they just do things without due thought or having a schedule to follow.

I liked reading this book. Although not a page turner, it had that something that kept me coming back until I reached the end. Those readers with an interest in science will find something to pique their interest, but if you’re not a science fanatic, don’t worry – the facts aren’t force fed to you. The book has an inspirational touch to it and would make a pleasant read for anyone over the age of twelve.

I liked that the vampires and humans co-existed for the most part. I even liked that despite the crazy nature of a college town, things are pretty low key in Morganville. As I’d expect with a teen novel, there is plenty of angst. Court of Honor, by Paula Blais Gorgas features basketball, but as far more than a game. Gorgas’ Heroine, Becky, is the athletic sort but she’s been abruptly transplanted in a new school, and might well miss her moment to shine.

She does notice handsome Matt; he’s the gentle sort of guy that you just have to like. He kids around with his little brother and is nice to the new girl… and we realize he’s not as self-assured as he at first appears. He definitely doubts his ability to interact with the tall, pretty new girl… and is put off by her less than encouraging behavior at times.

Making new friends, and new enemies for that matter, is always a challenge, and makes for interesting reading. Readers don’t have to be a sports fan to enjoy this story: its all about Becky’s challenges and choices . Her devotion to the game, anticipation of the action, and interplay with the team all will transport the reader there in a completely exciting and believable way.

Ava can’t see him or touch him, unless she’s dreaming. She can’t hear his voice, except for the faint whispers in her mind. Most would think she’s crazy, but she knows he’s here.

Jackson. The boy Ava thought she’d spend the rest of her life with. He’s back from the dead, as proof that love truly knows no bounds.

A love that never dies…that’s forever.

First I have to admit this book is written in a poetry-slash-train of thought fashion. Its first person which pulled me out of the story initially, but once I got into the swing of the story, I really enjoyed it. I saw the course of events through Ava’s eyes as if I went through it along with her. Feeling her grief and strife makes this a tough, but satisfying read.

But all isn’t over because he’s dead. Jackson comes back to speak to her.
