One of the things that makes an anthology work is all the stories need to work together. While the stories in this book are short, some too short, they all seem to work together. The character development is good in each of the stories. The plots were well thought out and several of them would have made excellent starts to series or to larger book. It was well done that these plots were presented in their entirety despite the room for expansion. The book was well edited.

This book is definitely one I’d consider recommending to friends and a book I’d buy, but perhaps not one I’d keep on my shelf. The stories are quick reads making it perfect for a book to take along with you to the doctor’s office or other appointment.

The stories are hot and I both laughed and got teary eyed. A good read.

Being one of the oldest living paranormals makes Shea pretty much immune to everything except two young vampires treating him more like an object to be fought over and not a person. His anger over the forced mating is understandable but in all actuality what is done is done and Shea has no choice in the matter.

Calin and Dustin are vampires who only attended the paranormal gathering in hopes of finding new coven after being forced out of their old one for being gay. At first I felt these two were insensitive and had little regard for their actions but as I read I got a better understanding of what these two men had gone through. The conflict in this story was a slow build piece by piece until it comes to a head. As the reader, I knew what was going to happen but to the characters in the book it was shocking. I really liked how when the attack came the resolution was swift and decisive.

Ms. Flynn’s imagination is one of wonder and the sex scenes she writes in this book are steamy. I’m always a little skeptical when it comes to ménage love stories but she wrote a love story between three men who felt as if not being a trio wasn’t an option.

As a follower of the Midnight Matings series, it’s a little frustrating that the first few pages are just rereading what is in all the other books; the “why” of the forced matings. But for folks who haven’t read the previous installments, that is also what makes the series so good. You do not have to read every book in this series to know what is going on in this crazy world.

Cameron and Jason meet by chance but soon realize they could help each other out. The one thing Cameron has to realize is sometimes in life you can get second chances at happiness you just have to be willing to grab it with both hands and take that leap of faith.

Deefur Dog was a sweet, touching love story that actually had me tearing up. I’m a fan of real life everyday characters and there’s nothing more real and more heart wrenching then dealing with the death of a loved one. This story puts forth the knowledge just because someone you care died doesn’t mean you stop living. This book was a slow, easy read that takes you on a journey into Cameron and Jason’s life. Deefur may just be a dog but he played matcher maker in this tell. For all dog lovers and romantics at heart this will be a book you would be glad you read.

This book was so much fun for me on a couple of levels. Imagine a buck and a vampire falling in love at one of the worst possible times resulting in the best of everything. Very romantic.

One of the reasons I jumped on this title when it became available was because it was about Jason. I’d met him in a previous installment of Protect and Serve when his sister, Natalie needed saving. Well, so did Jason, and this is his story after the fact. This adorable little gem stands alone just fine but since I’d read the previous book, I knew more about just how dire his situation had been and in this installment, just how far he’d come. I was so happy to find out he’d get his happy ever after but never imagined who it’d be with.

Jason knew he messed up before so he’s doing his darndest to make his sister proud and recoup some of his lost pride. I think the job the author matched him up with was perfect. I knew he was loyal and dedicated as well as a braniac. What I did not know was his aversion to vampires. How ironic that the one man who makes his blood sing and his dreams burn his inner eyelids from imagined passion would turn out to be a vampire. And yet, I really respected Jason because he didn’t cast generic aspersions or run around with a phobia so encompassing that he’d stake an innocent man, although a dead one. He remained professional and calm. That is until one of the bad guys threw a curve ball and presented Jason with a slight dilemma. That was yummy, in a twisted sort of way.

Drew is part of that dilemma. But he’s also Jason’s personal thorn and eventual salvation. I credit that to being able to see into his head, by getting to see the taffy pull battering his emotions inside throughout the story. Sure, Jason has his share but it’s not the searing pain that Drew has to deal with. It was a great hook.

The dialogue is brisk and informative, the editing clean and the characters fun. The only drawback for me was the brevity of information. I could have used a bit more background on Drew, a bit more meat between scene changes and believe it or not, more loving words between Drew and Jason. Their bodies talked the loudest and the author certainly wrote scenes that pleased my fast beating little heart. I just wanted a tiny bit more emotional connection because then I truly would have been assured that Jason and Drew would be together, forever. Maybe Ms. Violet could have them get married? Ooh, I’d buy that book.

Protect and Serve: Sex on the Hoof is a delightful and cheeky romance between to unlikely men who end up happier than they thought possible. There was fun exploration and heartfelt skin on skin to appeal to erotic readers. To engage the senses for readers who need a bit of meat to their short stories, there’s a bit of action when Drew tried to chase down a bad guy. For me, the best is the closure that both brother and sister are safe, loved and have a bright and terrific future ahead of them. I’d love to visit with the deer shifters again; they were so cool!

Simon is dealing with his own set of health issues and fearing that the man he is coming to love won’t stick it out with him for the long haul.

The only thing that really could have enhanced this book was if it were longer. This story seems to be rushed; with a little more time these characters really could have developed more.

The characters in this story never come together sexually and I found that refreshing. In most books the main characters are jumping into bed way too soon, but in this book we get to see Simon and Canyon learn to know each other without using explicit sex scenes to tell their love story.

Who Better Than Canyon touched my heart and I felt fortunate to get to read and review it. I would recommend this book to anyone one who is needing a pick me up. This book does deal with death but also what happens when you find a love worth sticking around for. A very good uplifting read.

Jan Springer has a definite winner with Her Captive. The premise is wonderfully titillating and I thoroughly loved the gender reversal of a female pirate capturing a man to have her wicked way with him.

Be forewarned though…if you’re at all squeamish about forced seduction, the heroine in Her Captive kidnaps the hero and plans such a seduction, even though her captive is never unwilling.

I’ll admit, at first, I didn’t like the heroine, Morgan. She’s a thief who steals a shipload of marijuana from a competitor because she hates him and his tactics, then keeps the dope and sells it. Though things aren’t always as they seem, it made it difficult for me to admire her.

I bought into the relationship between Morgan and the hero completely. The evolution of their feelings and the knocked-by-socks-off hotness of the sex was a potent mix. Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Congratulations, Ms. Springer. I couldn’t put the book down. If you like your heroines tough, intelligent, funny and shaded with just enough imperfection to endear them to you, Her Captive will wind up on your keeper shelf too.
