The Stars at Night is a poignant, charming story that held my attention from start to finish, with a reluctant break for sleep.

There were some very tearful moments, as well, where I worried for the happy ever after of these two, but I was delighted to see finally happened between them. This is a well written, fast moving romance about a very damaged heroine who has, understandably, decided God has not been listening to her. The reaction of the church elders when he confronts them with their blindness is believable. I wanted to shake the elders and give Jay a hug. But the author raises an interesting problem here: how ready should we be to question someone else’s professions of faith? Do we embrace them with open arms, even if we have doubts, hoping that they will see the light, or do we hold them at arms length, questioning their faith?

I did find the author’s slipping a couple of passages of sermonizing in the guise of Jay’s journal entries ot be rather heavy handed, and Ashley’s behavior towards her therapist at the beginning of the novel reminded me of the actions of a spoiled child rather than arousing the sympathy it was doubtless meant to. Still, I found Ashley largely sympathetic, and the characters and the situations portrayed in the book are ones that I continue to turn over in my mind.

If you enjoy inspirational romance about serious spiritual dilemmas, you’re sure to enjoy this fine book.

I hope she makes a series out of these characters, because the glimpses she gave into the lives of them makes me want to know more. Laura Browning is definitely an author to watch out for and someone to definitely add to your reading list. You will not be disappointed in this book.

I felt sorry for the Cardinal, and Steel was a strong person, everything I’d expect a girl in that situation to be. She did what she had to.

Gridlock: Cybershock is a good story with a definite thread of survival running through it. I believe the end could have been drawn out more, but otherwise this is the best one I’ve read in this series. Well thought out and written, capturing my interest and keeping it. An exciting, short read and a great way to spend a few hours.

Joe has a beautiful house, a great job, no commitments– and he likes it that way. All he needs is a quiet house-sitter for his rambling old place by the sea. When Tess turns up, he’s not sure she’s right for the job. Where has she come from in such a hurry? Her past is blank and she’s a bit of an enigma. But we all have our secrets. It’s just that some are bigger than others.

This story features a slow simmering burn that starts in Tess and Joe’s hearts until it eventually consumes their entire being. This is not the type of love story that would traditionally interest me but the notion of an Englishman falling in love with his housesitter piqued my interest. I’m very thankful that it did. While this type of story may not be something I would normally read, Secrets is definitely a book that I would read again.

Tess and Joe seem to have much similarity, yet many differences as well. Both seem to have a stubborn streak in them, and a quick wit that makes their banter truly entertaining. They both harbor secrets they are not willing to relinquish while still seeking to learn what the other is hiding. While this may sound like it may be a little too slow or drawn out it actually read very well and keep me interested and wanting to find out more. Even after I completed the book, I remembered the characters’ names, which with the amount of books I read is a feat within itself.

This is a story that I would recommend to anyone who loves a good love story whether it be a traditional romance or a more contemporary one. I think that all fans of romance could really curl up on the couch or in the bed and loose themselves for hours while learning Tess and Joe’s secrets.
