Two enemies left standing on a blood drenched battlefield. Who will take the as yet unclaimed land for their own?

Ofeig Nabboddrson, a warrior from his youth up, is determined to claim the rich land now stained with blood as his. The only thing standing in his way is a magnificent Valkyrie, a woman who he has seen only in battle and who is called ‘The Protector’.

Eva Samsdottir, an extraordinary woman who singlehandedly saves the children of her village from slavery amidst a deadly raid. Unbeknownst to her a bigger battle awaits her in a Time not her own. Will she have the courage to survive the future?

This is a well-written story, that takes a departure from normal time travel books in that future events are changed, with no repercussions to the past. This is done on the premise that it was already done in the past, therefore the changes won’t affect what has already happened. This is a hard concept to grasp – especially when most time-travel stories are of the “don’t mess with the timeline” theory, but it makes for some interesting action.

While the plot revolves mainly around Ofeig and Eva, also known as “The Protector”, there are many others who compliment the plot, and even time travel. Most of the story takes place in the late 1980’s and early 10th century. There is plenty of sword play, and murder, mystery and intrigue. However, there is also plenty of good-old-fashioned romance and sexual attraction.

The main detraction from this lovely story is the grammar errors and misspellings. It made reading certain sections of the book difficult.

Because this is a series, characters who would otherwise be secondary in this story have a history and relevance to the current storyline. This seems to lend itself to a fuller, richer story.

Don’t let the “Book Four” scare you. If you haven’t read any of the other three (as I have not), you will still understand the plot, follow the characters, and really enjoy this book.

Reading this short story was an enjoyable way to spend my afternoon. The author adds just enough spice and snappy dialogue to make it move very smoothly and quickly. The character of Michael Doogan is so genuine, just like the guy next door, it would be hard not to fall for him. From the very beginning, he is right there for Maggie, and that makes him a wonderful man you would want to have around! You can feel the emotion between them coming right off the pages, especially when he is being protective or in that moment when his Christmas spirit kicks in. Come join them in this new novella and see if he can make your heart go pitter patter a little more along with Maggie’s.

This is a spicy little read that definitely fills that need if you are wanting a quick romantic fix.

I would highly recommend this short story to anyone looking for a contemporary read with a little kick to it.

Katherine Slade has two goals: to escape her outlaw husband and to find the family of the man who died saving her life. Taking the place of a mail-order bride isn’t part of her plan—until she’s forced to continue the charade and become Sheriff Connor Langston’s housekeeper to stay out of jail. Pretending to be another woman is hard, but Katherine’s real challenge is resisting her growing attraction to the handsome lawman…

Falling in love is the last thing Connor needs, even if the rest of Fatal Bluff wants him to. His hands are full with a band of outlaws threatening the safety of his town, and a child to raise. But Kate has a way of getting under his skin and into little Jenny’s heart. Soon Connor can’t get the fiery beauty out of his head—along with his suspicion that Kate isn’t who she claims to be.

When Connor learns the truth about Kate, is there any way for this outlaw bride to become the sheriff’s wife?

The Outlaw Bride is a true treat to read. Set in 1873, when the west was truly a wild and rough place to live, we find Kate. Beat down by life and the evil that follows her estranged husband, Rogan Slade, she attempts to keep her promise to a dead man. Struck silent from the grief of losing her father, Jenny is befriended by Kate who helps the young girl blossom into one of the most lovable characters of the book. In contrast, the mouthwateringly sexy sheriff, Connor, is having his life completely turned upside down by his beautiful housekeeper. He is rocked to the core by his growing attachment to Kate, but fights himself every step of the way.

This novel is more than just a simple romance; it is a journey to find family and a real sense of belonging. Endearing and sweet with a touch of spice for flavor The Outlaw Bride is one of the best historicals I’ve read in a while. There was only one hitch, some of the editing hiccups were a little too noticeable and become annoying.

Still, it’s clear Kelly Boyce has a lot to offer the world of the historical romance and I look forward to reading more of her works. It is rare that a historical is filled with this many memorable characters. She needs to host a workshop on character development so that others can benefit from her expertise.

Two gifted, good-looking opera singers, from different cultures and opposite sides of the track in Texas, discover that falling in love is wonderful. But love may not be enough if it interferes with their dreams of success in the ruthlessly competitive world of opera. D.J. McKay’s dream of singing in European opera houses clashes with his rich daddy’s prejudices against such a “sissy” career; his obsession with beautiful Eva Villalobos doesn’t sit well with his socialite mother, either. Meanwhile, Eva strives to help her poor family financially by achieving success on the stage.

So what happens when their passion for each other thwarts their dreams? How can their relationship survive three-thousand miles of separation? Will their ambition to succeed kill the only true love they have ever known?

This is a well-written, interesting tale that brings the opera world and romance novels together in a pleasurable read. Told as a “memoir” to a reporter, Eva uses her own words as well as the autobiography of her fellow opera singer and love, DJ, to fill the reader in on her past. Interspersed between the reminiscing and autobiography, the reader is treated to Eva’s modern day and glimpses of how the past affected the future. This treatment could be confusing, but actually is a unique and fun way to get a backstory.

The pull between upbringing and the opera world affects the choices made by both DJ and Eva. Their upbringing and family as well as their individual choices both affect the road to their relationship. While the ending isn’t the typical “happily ever after” found in many romances, the resolution is satisfying and in keeping with the tone of the entire story.

It is a meaty read, and I needed several days to get through the story. However, the plot and storyline were interesting and able to keep me involved, even when I had to put the book down.

I was worried that having a music background would leave me disappointed, either wanting more detail, or agonizing over clear inaccuracies. Fortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth! The other problem I was worried about was that it would be too detailed, and cater to the opera/music crowd and leave the other readers confused and unwilling to finish the book. I am happy to report, all of my fears were unfounded!

Storylines for the operas in which the characters performed were detailed. What could be a confusing aspect for readers, was actually an addition to the story. The opera plotlines were given a light treatment and didn’t overwhelm me with too much information.

Clean, meaty, and interesting. If you are interested in music or opera, give this a try. If you aren’t interested in this performing art, give it a read anyway; you’ll enjoy the story, too!

It was the moment she had been dreaming of: a stolen kiss at a masquerade ball with the dashing Camden St. Giles. He may not have known who she was, but Christel would never forget . . .

Nine years have passed since that magical evening. Now Camden, the seventh earl of Carrick, is widowed with a young daughter, a man with a heart in need of healing. And Christel has just stolen onboard his ship bound for Scotland. Neither has forgotten the kiss that had set their hearts ablaze. The longer she remains with him, the hotter his desire burns. But as they grasp their second chance at love, will the secrets from his past threaten to destroy the one love true enough to free his tormented heart?

Since Christel Douglas’ mother had been known as the “colonial whore” in Ayrshire, Christel was not invited to social events like the Golden Masquerade Ball at Blackthorn Castle in late eighteenth century Scotland. However, she was nothing if not a resourceful person who managed to go pretty much wherever she pleased. She was at the ball in a golden gown, golden slippers, and a mask. That night she left a lasting impression on Camden St. Giles, heir to Carrick earldom, before she was shipped off to America.

After nine years and the American Revolution when Christel and Camden meet again, they have scars from life and war. Psychological and emotional scars are far worse than the physical ones. Guilt, regrets, fears, and secrets assail both of them to the point that happiness and fulfillment of dreams seem out of reach. With all the old desires and hurts to be dealt with as well as her deeds back in America, she declares she needs no one and doesn’t want to be needed. However, eight-year-old Anna, Camden and Saundra’s daughter, wiggles her way right into Christel’s heart, while Christel’s mongrel “Dog” wiggles his way into Anna’s heart. Dog is a character that truly earns his keep—his attitude and loyalty is not to be messed with.

Camden whom Christel considers her “sin” and “curse” holds her heart even though he has changed. Once known as “the barracuda” who roamed the seas as a proud naval officer in the service of The Crown, he now is a sea merchant after being denounced for his failure to bring about a miracle at the Yorktown battle in America where he almost lost his life. Betrayed by his country and his wife, Camden is bitter an uncaring about all except Anna.

With Christel’s abrupt return into his life, he struggles with a whole new set of emotions. As they deal with his scapegrace brother Leighton, with Tianna, the person instrumental in getting Christel sent to America, and with others like his longtime friend Sir Jacob Westomont, and his grandmother, their lives become entangled in the ongoing intrigues that hang on even though the war is over.

Heartbreaking and adrenaline-pumping events along with shocking revelations press in on Camden and Christel, yet their love, so long denied, forges a path through it all. The love scenes are memorable.

Melody Thomas creates a story of love that grips the heart. She uses metaphors that bring descriptions and emotions to life, e.g. “silk and satin shifting like sunlight through polished glass, “…sweet ecstasy like one savored the rare taste of rich chocolate”. She uses events in history to develop vibrant characters. The Perfect Kiss is filled with strong emotions and convictions and has a unique perspective of a given time in history. However, Camden and Christel’s enduring love shines through all the turmoil like a beacon on a dark night.

A playboy’s desire…Peter McFey, hunky surf bum turned treasure hunter, has never turned down a sexy woman, but the sapphire-eyed siren wants to make him her pet.

In the sensual battle between a mermaid’s instinct and a playboy’s desire, there is no winner. When the siren sings, her mate can hear nothing else.

A beautiful singing voice is known to have many powers over a person. They can easily be enchanted by the haunting, alluring song. Especially the song of a siren. Oh yes, being serenaded by a siren could have long term affects on the mind. But there’s a person who is immune to one siren’s voice…and she is determined to enchant him. She must!

She is so naïve to the ways of the human, and what a wild fun ride it was to read about her helping Peter and learning the ways of the human world. The author does a fantastic job with this paranormal/fantasy, showing the reader how two beings from completely different worlds collide and become one.

Curiosity of why Peter is immune to Nissa’s siren charm kept me turning the pages, desperate for answers. When Nissa joins Peter on a treasure hunt, she is lost and afraid, being away from her home world in the waters and learning to do things the human way. She’s not used to sleeping in a bed, where fears she will suffocate is one of the things she must overcome. And every chance she gets, she tries to win Peter over, but each time, he gets angrier and more defiant.

With the action and suspense heightened, this book really has the elements of an amazing cross-genre story. Be aware that Siren’s Serenade is Book two in the McFey Treasures series. I have yet to read the first one, but after how enjoyable this story was, I will be on the hunt for the other book. Nissa and Peter were hot, hot, hot together!

If you enjoy adventure, sizzling sexual tension, paranormal beings, and a love story that has a shot of being hotter than fireworks, then take a chance, and let this story enchant you with it’s song.

When accountant Daniel Elliott dies in a car accident, his widow, Grace, is overcome with grief…and panic. Daniel was controlling and their marriage loveless, but he always took care of her.

Or so she thought.

Grace soon discovers Daniel kept secrets: an alias, mob ties, a list of numbers, a mysterious beach house in Florida….and a girlfriend who looks like Grace. Swallowing her fear, she flies to Miami to claim the house Daniel left her. But the price of her curiosity is peril. Underworld figures stalk her. And handsome, troubled FBI agent Jack West has crossed precarious paths with Grace before. With little to go on and danger at every turn, Grace must depend on Jack to help her navigate the criminal world of south Florida, and find the truth behind the Ring of Lies.

Betrayed by the one man she should have been able to trust…

My heart ached for Grace from the moment I started reading. Her world collapsed when her husband died, but she had no idea how much worse things were about to get. A stranger at Daniel’s funeral threatens Grace and implies that Daniel was involved in some illegal activities. At first Grace refuses to believe the man she’s been married to for ten years could have kept so much from her, but it isn’t long before she is forced to face the truth.

Grace was a very likable character. In the beginning she is simply a long suffering housewife who was married to an emotionally and mentally abusive husband. However, I was very pleased that Grace didn’t stay that way for the entire length of the story. She didn’t change overnight. Ms. Howard gradually drew Grace out of her shell as the story progressed. This made Grace’s character development feel very natural. I enjoyed watching Grace assert her independence as it began to slowly sink in that she was free of Daniel’s influence. I was also pleased that she developed a back bone and a good dose of courage, which she certainly needed as she dug deeper into the truth of her dead husband’s activities. However, she was stubbornly naïve throughout a good portion of the story. DHEA or dehydroepiandrosterone, is a naturally occurring steroid hormone in the body believed to be important for a healthy food diet that viagra in kanada can help to suppress weariness and regain energy in the human body. As I read, I had a large part of the mystery figured out, but Grace simply refused to see the truth. There were times when I wanted to reach through the pages and smack some sense into her. I’ll admit I was a little worried that Grace would wilt when the final pieces of the puzzle slid into place. However, I was pleased to discover Grace was truly a stronger woman by the end of the story.

Jack West is the perfect hero for Grace. He’s a tough FBI agent dedicated to his job, but that is just one of the layers to his interesting character. He’s also the father of Emilia, a very young infant. Jack isn’t perfect. He has a very flawed relationship with Emilia’s mother that makes Jack a more believable character. While his relationship with Emilia’s mother is strained at best, it is clear that he cares for Emilia more than anything in the world. The scenes where Jack takes care of Emilia really showcase the softer side of his personality and really made him come alive in my mind.

Jack and Grace have chemistry to burn, but their timing always seems to be off. When they first met, Grace was still married. Now that Daniel is gone, Grace learns that Jack is a father. Ms. Howard did an excellent job of balancing these everyday problems against the more extraordinary situations Grace and Jack faced as they dug into Daniel’s past. It really helped ground the story and made Grace and Jack’s relationship feel more realistic.

Ring of Lies was definitely an enjoyable read. Not only did the suspense keep me turning pages, but the romance between Grace and Jack was compelling. Fans of romantic suspense will certainly want to check it out.

Chivalry is far from undead…

Matthew Halkett, Earl of Blodswell, is one of the few men in the ton who can claim to be a knight in shining armor- because that’s precisely what he was before being turned into a vampyre. When he spies a damsel in distress in the midst of a storm in Hyde Park, his natural instinct is to rush to her aid…

But not every woman needs to be rescued…

Weather-controlling witch Rhiannon Sinclair isn’t caught in a storm-she’s the cause of it. She’s mortified to have been caught making trouble by the imposing earl, but she doesn’t need any man-never has, and is sure she never will…

But when Rhiannon encounters Matthew again, her powers go awry and his supernatural abilities run amok. Between the two of them, the ton is thrown into an uproar. There’s never been a more tempestuous scandal…

A man born in chivalrous times past is no match for a feisty and seductive Scottish weather witch, and watching the lightening flash and his fangs pop is only the beginning of the fun in store for readers in Ms. Dare’s latest romance.

First, this is a great stand alone book. For fans of the series, they’ll get to see one of the Westfield brothers again and one of Rhiannon’s sister witches. If this is the first time for a reader, those same people will come across as interesting and fun secondary characters. Either kind of reader will find entertainment and humor throughout and should find that Ms. Dare has once again provided a great storytelling experience.

Rhiannon has her story this time around and she is written as a woman who is loyal, fiercely protective, loving and giving but with bit of a temper to rival Zeus or Thor when crossed. Perhaps it has something to do with her propensity to hurl some well placed lightning bolts or two but the results are giggle-worthy and it was fun.

In the past, I believe I got a sense that her dad was a bit absent minded and at first, it didn’t seem that big a deal. The author lets a reader in on a big secret that presents a very real and touching emotional hook. It made me want to give Rhiannon a hug. Having a parent who seems disinterested in a child has deep ramifications no matter how adept the offspring become at hiding its affects. I was pretty impressed with how the author wove those sentiments throughout the story, and how it touched and influenced the other characters.

One person in particular gets the brunt of the heroine’s ire and saucy teasing and that’s Matthew, the hero. I was tickled when I found out that this man who’d given up on hope and accepted his life’s course should actually find love. I tremendously enjoyed watching him fall apart. This pharmaceutical ought not to be taken by individuals taking viagra sale canada other medication containing nitrates. Without sexual stimulation the brain does not send any signal which find out over here now cialis prescription australia translates to no erections. Erectile diffusion is a very common source of stress and pressure best online cialis and chill. Ms. Dare was deliciously coy with the details; it started out small, like a pebble going downhill turning into a landslide. It picked up speed and bowled the poor guy over with the truth. For all his knowledge and experience over his vast existence, the hero simply had no clue about the true power of love. It was pure romance.

As I mentioned before, there are some great secondary characters that spice up this tale and many revolve around the heroine’s best friend Cait’s husband, Dash. He has brothers and they all become protective of Rhiannon to the point of hilariousness. Don’t get me wrong, there are some serious, all out spooky moments where I didn’t know if someone was going to get shredded to ribbons or dead. Ms. Dare balanced the drama and suspense well enough that it never bogged the story down but enhanced the telling of it. There is also one special character that really had the makings for a vicious enemy. The person was certainly capable of evil and nasty attacks and I couldn’t figure out which way to think. Amazingly enough, the author chose the high road in a very unconventional battle that tested the mettle of the heroine. It was Rhiannon who made the difference and who saw clearly what the true nature of the threat was. What an impressive bit of writing!

The only person or part I didn’t care for was Aunt Greer. I guess I’m more vengeful or bloodthirsty because I would have not done what was ultimately done with her. I’ll let readers decide if it was foolish or magnanimous.

In the Heat of the Bite is a delightful romance that paranormal fans can sink their teeth into and find sweet-tart entertainment from beginning to end. The happily ever after was poignant and beautiful. The scenes leading up to it were vastly amusing due to Rhiannon’s fascination with Matthew’s teeth. I found myself laughing and sighing all at the same time. I can’t wait for Alec’s story; it can’t come soon enough.

One thing I do know is it’s a guarantee that Ms. Dare’s next book will be an auto-buy for me. For some reason, I can’t get enough!

Did I mention that the fae (Glori) munches chocolate bars like there’s no tomorrow and the exterminator (Lance Knight) trails a legion of family ghosts wherever he goes?

Both have obstacles to overcome which seem insurmountable: Glori’s spells aren’t working any more which means the children in her crèche are no longer protected from disease and bullying; and Lance is trapped with those ghosts until he can find a beautiful Faerie Princess to kiss him and break the spell. Glori? Nope – she’s not a princess. In any case, the ghosts don’t like Glori because, “she’s a bleeding twinkle-butt faerie!”

Humor isn’t lacking in this fast-paced story, not only overall -– for example, Glori’s spells aren’t working because she’s in Need (rather like a dog on heat) — but also in the details: the ghosts yelled with such force that they stunned a dozen roaches. The conflict to be resolved keeps the reader enthralled to the end: Glori’s biological clock is ticking, and will Lance find his Faerie Princess in time despite being knee-tremblingly attracted to Glori?

Apart from the colony of ancestral ghosts, who are laugh out loud funny, there are few characters populating the story. However, those who are there each have his or her own foibles that endear them to the reader so that I found myself only wanting the best for them.

But, then, it doesn’t need those things because it is an easy read, just perfect for a reader in need of a feel-good, quiet, cozy afternoon story.
