The black funnel of an approaching tornado makes all other troubles seem small. But when Indiana State Trooper Chance Hamlin “rescues” Allie Craine from a twister, his troubles are just beginning—Allie, a disaster photographer, rescues him when he drives into the storm’s path.

Chance doesn’t like being rescued, he doesn’t like photographers, and he definitely doesn’t like being stuck with Allie when she wants to stay in calm, peaceful Indiana. Too bad his family, friends, and even the other members of Chance’s volunteer fire department think she’s great. Suspicious of Allie’s motives, he decides to drive her away out of sheer boredom—but that’s not so easy when someone begins causing fires and other catastrophes around the area. That someone might be Allie, who has plans of her own…

Storm chasing, photographing the clouds, saving a man, and getting arrested… all in a days work for Allie. You’d think that Chance would be grateful for her help, but this stubborn, overly suspicious man isn’t. What a way to make a first impression!

Allie isn’t as young and fragile as she looks. All he had to do was look up her license plates, or check her ID to know she’s not a runway teen. Chance is baffled when she talks about a degree, and all the things she’s done…and he realizes his mistake. Much to his dismay, he’s attracted to this drifter. Storm Chaser starts out with a bang which continues throughout the book. The attraction between Allie and Chance is fiery, but every time they have a moment to themselves to act on it, something always happens. They always seem to be on the front lines of something — a fire, a crazy animal…the list goes on! There’s a bit of an added mystery to the plot when someone keeps watching Allie, and I wasn’t sure why. Chance annoyed me a time or two because of his outright distrust. Sure, people have a right to be cautious, but some of the things he thought Allie was doing got to be a bit outrageous!

This is a great contemporary read. The characters are friendly and memorable. They all have their good moments and their quirks. The pacing is great, and I didn’t find a part of the book that was too slow. It’s an all around fun book.

If you enjoy contemporary romance with featuring a hero and heroine with a flare of adventure, then get yourself a copy of Storm Chaser, and get blown away by the great story.

It’s never wise to blackmail a highwayman.

Lady Corinne, rebellious daughter of the duke of Banfield, refuses to marry Lord Freddie Sherwin. Yes, he’s the catch of the Season and the man her father chose for her. He’s also the most despicable male of her acquaintance. With her wedding only weeks away, she flees and finds herself a prisoner of the notorious Thorn!

Who says the devil isn’t a woman?

The rich and powerful tremble at the highwayman’s name, while England’s villagers rejoice in his bold exploits. His identity is a secret; his life a mystery— until Lady Corinne tumbles into his arms. If the Thorn wants her silence, he must hide her until her wedding day passes. It’s a devil’s bargain and one that can only lead to a hangman’s noose.

Corinne believes it the perfect plan—until her highwayman reveals a passionate lover’s heart, and she realizes that in the seduction of scandal, she may have found the hero she’s been waiting for her whole life.

Much more than just a story of a girl who runs from an unwanted marriage, The Seduction of Scandal hums with secret treasonous deals, a one-man campaign for justice, and the blooming of love that brings a sense of belonging never before known to the hero and the heroine.

Corinne Rosemont wants a husband who loves her even when she is silly and obstinate, a husband who relishes her opinions and shares her passion. She just knows there must be more to life than parties, boredom, and a stale, unloving marriage like her parents’. However, she is expected to marry Lord Freddie Sherwin, whom Corinne caught cavorting in her bed with her maid. Her parents turn a deaf ear to her entreaties. To them, money, position, power, and prestige are more important than her happiness. Freddie’s father, Earl of Bossley, is quite rich, but at the expense of his people. With political ambitions and secret connections, he is eager to have a duke for an in-law. Of course, Freddie, who is selfish, lazy, and loves feeling superior to others, is smug about getting the “Unattainable Ice Maiden” Lady Corinne Justine Rosemont, a duke’s daughter for his bride.

But wait!

With no plan, just desperation, Corinne hides in the boot of a coach that is leaving the Bossley’s party. When she ends up in the care of the Reverend Will Norwich, foster son of the earl of Bossley, the intrigues, conflicts and complications pile up. Life will never be the same again for the young Reverend or for Corinne. They meet and beat the odds until jealousy overrides common sense, then the twists and turns in the plot take the reader on a rollercoaster ride that seems to be racing down hill to bury Corinne in misery then it swoops up to a breathtaking climax. Ah!

Cathy Maxwell writes with an undercurrent of humor that makes the characters seem very real. Even in some of the tense and dangerous scenes, what is real and what is perceived as real brings a smile. However, her ability to reveal the oppression of the disenfranchised parishioners and the unconscionable acts of those with rank and privilege makes The Seduction of Scandal compelling. Her skill depicting the emerging of gentle, pure love that trusts and gives without reserve captivates.

This hero and heroine’s journey from feeling unloved to feeling much loved touches the heart and satisfies that deep-down desire for love to always find its way to a happy-ever-after. Good reading!

India Rookwood, daughter of an English lord, flees her country home in Scotland to escape her arranged marriage. She spends the night in the safety of Craogh Falloch only to be discovered by pirates. Taken to their captain, she sizes up the well built blond pirate reminiscent of the Vikings of old. She stands up to him and his demands, discovering in short order she stood before The Falcon, notorious pirate of legend and her father’s mortal enemy. From that moment on, India questions whether she can stand the against the tide of HIS WICKED INTENTIONS.

Tracy L. Ranson’s historical romance novel starts dramatically and is absolutely riveting throughout. The reason for India Rookwood’s desperate flight is quickly revealed; the classic, ‘arranged marriage to horrible man.’ However, the plot speeds forward into uncharted waters at a furious pace, and nothing about His Wicked Intentions is remotely predictable.

India plunges into a world entirely new to her aboard the brigantine: the tall ship, the sea, and a world of anger and vengeance that twirls around her family name. Indeed…she has no idea.

Captain Rafe Blackthorne is hardly the sort anyone would be setting up marriages with; and his long-lasting desire for revenge propels him, as we readers cringe, horrified. Yet, India is not quite the person he expects, either: he too, has No Idea! She is strong minded and decisive when she gets the chance. We dare hope for the best; it would all be so magical if Rafe was all we hope.

India’s past is not easily left behind however. There is a horrible world out there, a world she has heard only hints and rumors about. She’s right to fear the violent, degrading men that are said to exist, but predicting where and at what points they will appear seems impossible. To say more would be to ruin the many surprises and twists.

This reader loved the backdrop, a blend of romance set in historic England and a pirate-style romance, as well as the pace of the action, and the overall originality. There are some darker sections certainly. Spicier interludes fit well with the overall storyline.

Minor editing oversights and an occasional clumsy wordiness drop this from the absolutely top score (minor things like “of a might oak”), but regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this well-plotted, fast-paced story.

Alara has spent her life under the radar, hiding her nature from the government and those around her. When it came to a choice of letting her cousin fall into servitude to their own government or live a life free in the stars, Alara stepped into the path of disaster and made sure that Tosha went free. Trapped and locked in a lab where other talents were incarcerated she meets a new friend and the man who has haunted her dreams for the last six months. General Brodin has fought wars and when his talent surged forward, the government of Dhema sent him to the Sector Guard. He has waited patiently to find his true mate, and when he was told to get himself captured on Dalpha he did it without question. Seeing Alara for the first time, he knows why.

Echo In Time is the twentieth book in Viola Grace’s Sector Guard series, and this is still a world filled with possibilities.

The talents of Dalpha are persecuted and imprisoned by their government. Those who can be of use are sent into servitude, while others are kept in the labs for research.

When Alara J’Tak realizes that she and her cousin Tosha are in danger of being discovered as talents, she contacts the Alliance with a message for the Sector Guard. She has seen the future for both of them, and she knows Tosha must remain free. Alara knows she will be captured, and sees her future with one very attractive Dhemon in all its possible permutations.

When General Brodin is brought to the common room at the lab complex where she is being held, Alara realizes her freedom and a new life with the Guard is imminent. The government is given a chance to make amends to the talents is has abused, and Alara is asked to present the terms to the planet. Can Alara find her place beside Brodin in the Sector Guard? Will her evolving talent be of good use to all concerned? Is she ready to marry the Dhemon that has starred in her future dreams for so long?

This story brings back many of the characters from previous adventures, and I enjoyed seeing them all again. I look forward to each new story in this series.

Alara J’Tak, or Echo In Time, is a strong and sassy woman, determined to protect the only relative she has left. Her talent for seeing all possible futures is, to her, just a tame and unimportant one. She knows she can survive a short stay in the labs, while her cousin Tosha would be far less able to handle it. I liked seeing how she was able to manipulate life around her to her advantage, using her intelligence along with her talent to get where she needs to be.

General Brodin, or Might as he is known in the Sector Guard, is strong and determined to rescue not only Alara, his mate, but also free those talents on Dalpha being restrained. As Commander of Teklan Base, he has waited a long time to find his mate, and is determined not to let anything get in the way of their future together. I enjoyed watching as Alara was able to keep him in suspense at first, and I liked that he didn’t rush her into anything before she was ready.

This is a sweet and gentle love story, but there are dangers to be faced from those in control at the lab before Echo and Might can be together. The supporting characters are, for the most part, Sector Guard members that we have met before, performing their duties in support of their Commander. I found this to be a wonderful addition to the ongoing universe of the Sector Guard, and I look forward to visiting with these characters again soon.

But is it enough? Chelsie’s been hurt before and Griff isn’t sure he can trust the woman who once tried to take his niece away. What will it take for them to realize they are … perfect partners?

Lawyers Chelsie Russell and Griffin Stuart deal with career obligations and lots of personal baggage as their lives get enmeshed with their precious two-year-old orphan niece Alix. Heartbreaking moments of Alix’s night terrors and confusion become the catalyst for major adjustments in both Chelsie’s and Griffin’s lives. The sub-story of spousal abuse and its effect on victims even after they escape the abusive situation adds a special poignancy to the story.

Chelsie, a busy lawyer, regrets that her sense of duty has put her at odds with the high-powered lawyer Griffin Stuart. Since two-year-old Alix is her niece and his niece also, she would like to have an amiable relationship with him, which isn’t likely after the stunt her parents had pulled in a custody battle.

Griffin gets custody of Alix and makes drastic changes in his law career and personal life to make a home for his much-loved niece, daughter of his dead brother. Alix, too young to understand the disappearance of her parents from her life, acts out during the day and suffers night terrors that have her, Griffin, and Mrs. Baxter worn to a frazzle. So the day Griffin hears Alix laughing and sees her happily cuddled up close to her Aunt Chelsie as they read a book, he knows he has to rethink his attitude toward her. As he takes on some of her caseload to free up some of her time and to expand his private law practice, he finds there is at least one woman in the world that is a giver. Chelsie’s pro bono workload is a shock to him.

The secondary characters stay in the background for the most part. Of course, little Alix rules supreme and already knows how to manipulate in her charming and humorous way. Ryan, Griffin’s private investigator friend, really sets the fox among the chickens with his unsolicited research report about Chelsie, but he is a godsend at other times and is always an unfailing friend. Chelsie’s parents, while miles away, still must be dealt with for Chelsie to move on with her life–as does the despicable Jeff Sutton, her former husband.

Carly Phillips creates a love story that has humor and heartache as she ties Chelsie and Griffin to each other with a breathtaking love that grows and glows even though they have some tough problems to solve along the way. The easy flow of Ms. Phillips writing style makes Perfect Partners a joy to read and her characters seem real and struggling with modern day problems that engender empathy. Good entertainment!

Now that the Napoleonic wars have come to an end, daring secret agent Lady Sophia Smythe can hardly bear the thought of returning home to her tedious husband. Until she discovers in the dark of night that he’s not who she thinks he is after all…

Bad enough she gets stuck in a closet for hours waiting for the right man to visit the courtesan, especially since the current client thinks he’s a horse. Now another spy has grabbed the man she was waiting to collect!

I really liked the premise of this story. Ms. Galen spins a good yarn with an action packed story, lots of intrigue and flames between the husband and wife who star in this story. Lord Smythe is extremely good looking, smart, and travels a lot. Lady Smythe hides her beauty behind glasses and formless dresses and visits her clubs a lot. Both are spies, but they don’t know the other one is, too. When they are both invited to same location, they almost kill each other before they recognize the other spy. And both are astonished to find the other spouse has been a spy, too.

Adrian and Sophie married each other because it was convenient, not for love. Their various spying adventures kept them apart from each other. This sets up a highly amusing situation when they find they must work together on a murder case and whoever comes up with the solution first will get to continue in the spying game; the other one will not. Ms. Galen does an excellent job of making their adventure challenging and fretful. Neither one will cut the other any slack nor do they worry about snapping at each other constantly. Each one thinks they are the better agent.

Its set in England during the Regency years and the author draws you into a world of carriages, classes, and intrigue. It feels real. So does the danger the two spies and lovers are facing. It doesn’t take long before you start worrying about them; spying is a dangerous business.

The story reads well, holds your attention and I enjoyed the arguments between the two well-matched spouses and how they eventually find love in their relationship. This read was especially good for me because I love historical novels with a good plot and romance included. I’m keeping this book for my personal library so I can read it again another time. I know it will be just as much fun to read as the first reading. Why not get you a copy?
