I found this was a well paced, fun story to read. Thoren rejects Keara because she’s not his match. Then he finds out she is, but he can never get her alone to tell her. His frustration screams off the pages as you read the story. I have to admit, though, I thought it served him right.

This is a story rich in emotional detail, realistic personal drama and lessons of compromise. Ginger is the heroine who has dealt with her husband leaving her, and has come to grips with her life. She has plans and hopes and instead of waiting for things to happen, she’s taking proactive steps to get what she wants in life. She has a job that sounded rewarding and fun, not to mention tiring. And like every work place, there are lemons and leeches, jealousy and personality clashes and Ginger walked a fine line trying to deal with it all without succumbing to their level. She does a good job, and in fact too good. I wanted the author to have her character tell me what eventually happened to the coach. I wanted her to do something more pointed, but she didn’t. Ginger was too nice to the snide and viscous fellow teacher and I didn’t like that. Sure, the heroine got in a few digs at times during the tale but I really wanted her to be aggressive about it. Then again, if she did, I guess Ginger wouldn’t have been the best role model after all for the hero’s kids. The author knew what she was doing. However, based on a specific scene, I’m pretty sure I know what Ginger thought though, and I agree with her; but I really wanted to know for sure. I don’t like people getting away with doing what that other woman did. Nasty old prune. I almost wish that the heroine didn’t allow that old biddy to have the power over her as I believe she did. Those are the kinds of situations that have me talking to the book while I’m reading it.

Ginger did remain classy and nice and her personality really did compliment the hero, Scott. He’s a man who is trying to shoulder a heavy load. His shoulders are broad but even a man who has it all together loses it in the face of kids, especially his daughters. I really liked how the author had Scott reacting and relating to the Newfie in the family. It was adorable, ripe with humor and it amped up the sweet factor. The author wrote the book in such a way that I took turns going to work with Scott or Ginger. Even in the normal course of a day, things happened: words got said and revelations were exposed which prompted responses and actions from either the hero or heroine that moved the plot forward.

Secondary characters were numerous but the most important were Ginger’s friends, and Scott’s two little girls, Shelby and Rena. Those kids were the catalyst for much of the good things, the sad things and even the funny moments that occurred between Ginger and Scott. If those two can survive and thrive in spite of it all, then there is a great chance that the happily ever after will be even better the second time around. The author gave me enough information to make me believe it.

The conflict is mostly internal and the story has a character driven plot. There are a few external issues that cause pressure and affect the characters’ actions a bit, but the biggest element is for the hero and heroine to get out of each their own ways. So many preconceived notions, jumped-to conclusions and mistaken interpretations make Ginger and Scott dance around each other as they learn what they need to from the other in order to fall in love. And they do fall in love, but it’s not easy or rosy or smooth. It’s bumpy. Feelings get hurt and dreams have to be altered before they see what is most important. A reader can see that it’s right in front of their faces. The entertainment comes from watching them slowly realize it. There are a lot of different levels of humor too. Some are sensual, some are outright silly and sometimes it was gentle fun which brought a warm smile to my face.

Stand-In Mom is a book with personality. Ms. Kelly crafted a tale about two people that could easily be about anyone in a reader’s community. The author took time to explore the world in which Ginger and Scott lived and used her characters to describe to me all that went on. Although there was a quick burst of passion in the beginning, the tale is basically about two people having to rebuild the road that will lead to those exploding sexual fireworks again. And they did want it, craved it even. This story is sensual, fun yet provoking, and totally satisfying. All my emotions were engaged and my interest kept. It’s a great read.

A reader meets Nicolette and Drew right at the cross roads of their lives. Neither of them knows what they will both mean to the other but the author set the story up beautifully. The lead characters start things off in a safe manner, laying down the ground rules and expectations. They had one explosive and memorable scene that resulted in quite a few emotional time bombs. Then, one got cold feet. However, fate would not be thwarted; their relationship got a second chance and the heat only piled up from there. Lucky for me.

Ms. Ford has a unique and amusing sense of fun and the ridiculous because she has Nicolette exploring all the things she’d always wanted to do with her life. None of them are harmful but they gave the hero an opportunity he’d never had before – chances to be free, to explore the little boy inside. Both Drew and Nicolette have bowed under the expectations that their families have placed upon them. They have tried and tried to conform and earn their respect, and in this book, the time for change and learning about themselves and what they truly want is upon them. This time, they are going to be true to their inner child and the rest of the world can go fly a kite.

Actually, I think Nicolette would enjoy doing that, as well as on top of the kiddie pool and a bunch of other interesting things. My absolute favorite part in this whole book, when it comes to choosing something off of the heroine’s wish list, is the slip and slide. I adored how the author wrote that scene. It was zany, fun and totally off the wall. And, it was romantic and sweet and made me laugh. In fact that is something I did frequently throughout this story – laugh. And the cutest part about that scene? The hero wanted to do it again.

This book should have reached a higher rating and it was almost there. What held it back were some inconsistencies in the writing. There was a jarring scene of head hopping early on, a cinnamon taste that shouldn’t have been there (it should have been beer), and the missing shoes that were and were not, all at the same time. It was how the scene was written; something was left out. Plus a few misspellings as well as the bouncing between Lette and Nicolette until the author found her stride. I really wish the editor had looked a bit closer because this book deserved better.

One thing that is high quality in this story is the sensual build up. Each scene: every time Drew looked into Nicolette’s eyes, every time she smiled at him and the enthusiasm in which the heroine explored the physical side of their relationship, led them closer and closer to falling in love. He fought it, she embraced it and when they tried to keep it relegated to their earlier arrangement, they both hurt. Ms. Ford had no problems reaching my emotions; she made me care for her characters. I wanted them to be happy but I understood the need to do what they did. It cleared the air for them, made them see clearly for the first time in their lives what they were chasing and what they should have been seeking all along. That revelation and the sweet reunion was pure romance. It made everything that came before worth it.

In the Hay is, hands down, a story worthy of spending time with. Every crazy deed, every smile, and every moment Drew and Nicolette spend in each other’s arms is a moment to treasure. This book totally entertained me and was very uplifting to read. If someone needs cheering up, reading In the Hay is the cure.

Cronkhite’s powerful style and unique vision of a plot has given us a strangely hard-hitting and highly unpredictable tale that threatens a blend of genres- from paranormal and mystery to horror. It’s well done though, and mostly riveting. If you are in the mood for something that will grab you, do read.

The cast of characters here is much the same as the first book: Secret McQueen, her mentor Holden, her two wolf mates Lucas Rain and Desmond Alvarez, and of course the Tribunal: Sig, Daria and Juan Carlos. There are a few new villains, and one or two surprise twists to make this one edge-of-your-seat exciting.

I was sure I knew who the ‘bad guy’ was, and I was so wrong! Lucas’ sister Kellan was a terrific addition to the cast, and I hope we see more of her in the future. This story made me laugh, cry… and wonder who was behind the plot. I was especially surprised to see who had Secret’s back through this mad dash to save one vampire from an undeserved punishment.

There is a terrific “happy for now” ending, but with a twist that makes me want more. I recommend this for those who like to mix romance and mystery, and those who love surprises.

Kelley Armstrong’s never-ending cast of characters makes for a wonderful world full of surprises, adventure, and always that helping hand when you need it the most. Despite the fact that each book usually centers on a different character, you’re sure to run into someone familiar along the way as well. This, along with her flowing, easy style of writing, is why I enjoy this series as much as I do. There’s always something new and exciting waiting just around the corner, but you also always have an old friend there to hold your hand while you experience it.

The D.A.R.E. Project was a wonderful idea, but the cost became too much to consider. When the people on Earth captured Eiwyn, a dragon swan pregnant with four daughters, they take the four embryos and split each into five females. Opalite has been doing retrievals for a while now, but on one of her recent missions, she finds a group of humans being held against their will.

After making sure they all get through the portal to safety on Earth, she finds a man chained to a wall, tortured and semi-conscious. After freeing him, he tells her he is Kros, a dragon. He takes her away and tries to convince her to be his mate. He also tells her that her three missing sisters are alive and well.

When Opalite returns to the lab, she is sent on another retrieval, and although it goes well, she is accused of imprisoning and torturing the man she rescued. I like this world created in the minds of Tianna Xander and Viola Grace, and the characters are all unique and well crafted. These are all softly romantic and yet there is just enough spice to intrigue the senses.

Opalite is strong and smart, and longs to be free: free to walk in the sun, and be just who she is. She misses her sisters, but doesn’t think they have gone mad, as the scientists claim. She is also a pragmatic woman-when taken before a group of dragons determined to be her mate, she immediately claims to be Kronos’ mate, averting possible fighting and problems. She is determined that she won’t be controlled anymore, and he is the only male so far than she can feel anything for. I liked seeing Opalite grow into the strong and independent dragon swan she was meant to be.

Kronos, or Kros, is strong, handsome and has a few tricks he can use to help in a pinch. He is attracted to Opalite, and works very hard to convince her that he will never hurt her or take away her freedom. I liked that he was willing to be patient and wait for her to choose him, rather than force any issues.

There are a couple of sub plots here, involving the case against Opalite, and the quest to reunite with her sisters. I was delighted that I got to see how the sisters were doing with their mates, and was intrigued to see what they were up to. I was happy to see that the villain in this one was treated to what he deserved, and that Opalite and Kronos were able to get their well deserved happy ever after.

The secondary characters are a diverse lot that add a wealth of emotions to the conflicts. The lamb named “Dinner” is not to be overlooked. He does his part to make this a delightful story.

Tessa Dare enchants with her skillful use of humor and her breathtaking love scenes. The awakening of Susanna’s passion and Bramwell’s deep-seated needs is beautifully revealed by Ms. Dare. She does a super job of showing how love reaches beyond weaknesses and flaws to bring out the best of people. She blends differences like Bramwell saying, “You’re mine” and Susanna saying, “I claim sole possession of my body, my heart, and my soul. And, tonight I choose to share them all with you”, in unique fashion. She melds these attitudes together to create a strong, delicious mixture that proves to be just what is needed for a happy-ever-after.
