The author paints Robyn as the perfect city girl out of her element in a small barely there farm town. The sights, sounds and worst off, the smells are almost more than she can take in. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her and being from a small town, I totally had to laugh a little at her observations. Bless her heart! It’s good writing when it makes the reader feel things, sadness, anger, even being a little put out by the prejudices of big city folk. I couldn’t wait for her to actually meet the Rough and Ready cowboys who would not only rock her world, but change her perspective.

She most definitely needed to see her way to finding new friends. I was surprised at how her relationship with Shelly began in the story and how that turns out. Maybe Shelly will show up again and see some of the other local cowboys in a better light.

I fell for brothers Yukon and Parker right along with Robyn. They were raised good, honorable men and were just trying to make their parents proud. But making a living at crop farming was tough and it was easy to see it had taken its toll on both men. They needed a reason to keep working towards their goals, a reason to not give up on a future. That reason waltzed into the Longhorn on a dust covered pair of stilettos and it was the beginning of a love story. Okay, maybe it was the beginning of a whole lot of heated looks and sexually charged touching but a beginning nonetheless.

There were a couple of issues with “convenience” scenes that seemed to be used to establish perception or opportunity in the story but didn’t really flow with the story. It came across as unnecessary filler. There’s a scene where we first meet Yukon where he rescues a local girl from some ruffians and then later a kid shows up at their house in the middle of a rain storm. It doesn’t so much take away the story, it simply didn’t add to it, if that makes sense. The story is good without the filler. I was rooting for Robyn to see the possibilities and the future she could have with the brothers if she only had the courage.

In all, I liked this short story. The characters were interesting and I wanted to see them find their HEA. I met several potential heroes and heroines for upcoming additions to the series and it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of them. Big city girl meets small town hotness in Stetsons. Always a good way to spend an evening.

She’s not keen on the idea, and when she meets Maddox, the guy in charge, she’s even less keen. A tall, skinny, mad-haired, tattooed guy, Maddox is the sort of person Penny would normally cross the road to avoid. But once she gets to know him, she starts to see things differently. He’s had a checkered past himself, and has now put it behind him and enjoys a glittering, prosperous career as a top chef.

When Maddox makes Penny an unconventional offer, will she have the courage to take him up on it? And if she does, where will it lead?

For a short read, this one packs a lot of heat.

I love the work of Lucy Felthouse. I’ve never been steered wrong by her books. This one is short, but it’s high on heat. The characters aren’t together long—it’s only 39 pages—but the connection is there.

Penny got herself into trouble by trusting the wrong person. I could relate to her. Sometimes it’s hard to know who to trust. To atone for getting into this trouble (I won’t give away spoilers), she ends up at a soup kitchen for community service. She’s her own person, but she does have trust issues. I liked her, but thought the relationship to Maddox, the hero, ended up being a tad rushed. Still, this is a short story. I knew going in it would be quick.

Maddox isn’t who he seems. He looks like he’s a rough character and has some rough edges, but he’s a gem down inside. I didn’t get to know much about him, but I liked him.

This is a short, but hot story that’s great for a lunchtime read. If you want something guaranteed to singe the screen, then this might be the book for you.

This novel is a strongly character and plot motivated story. While the sex scenes are intense and erotic I was really impressed by the depth shown in the three main characters, Eva, North and Colt. The author spent a good amount of time introducing these three, explaining their situation and setting the scene. I was totally hooked on Eva’s bid for freedom and the controversial home life of North and Colton. By the time they became intimate I was seriously invested in them all and eagerly turning the pages.

At times I felt Eva was an incredibly sheltered twenty two year old. Although Colt and North were certainly over-protective and along with her parents culpable of sheltering her, I still thought Eva acted extremely young (maybe too much so) for her age. This grated me with some of her actions, like getting involved with the first cowboy she came across, being dazzled and totally excited simply by being taken out to dinner and not expecting there to be consequences, and finally running away in tears at a climactic moment all made her seem quite young and innocent. The fact this was miraculously shed the instant she became intimate with the twins seemed a little too unbelievable considering her past actions. While I wanted to roll my eyes at Eva a number of times she was still very sweet and an interesting character.

The romance between Eva and the twins was a slow, wonderful progression. Readers looking for a quick-moving, steaming hot sexy book might find themselves a little let down. But I prefer to read stories like this, where the characters and plot are more in-depth, even when the romance moves at a slower pace. Some of the speech is a little flowery for my personal tastes (“given him the gift of her virginity… a prize above all others…”) but overall I thought this was a sensual, character-rich cowboy romance novel. I’d recommend this for readers who like a bit of spice in their romances, threesomes or strong cowboy novels.
