Wow, what an intense story. Everything from the torture chamber to the big chase later on made it impossible for me to stop reading. The fast pacing worked well how energetically the plot was written. I simply had to know what would happen next and if Emma-Rose would get away from her captors. This is the kind of world I deeply enjoy discovering when I crack open a new book because of how much fun it is to explore.

The romantic elements of this tale didn’t work so well for me. They didn’t show up until very late in the plot, and there wasn’t much foreshadowing going on for them before then. I absolutely loved both the characters involved in this part of the storyline, and I was excited to see what would happen to them next. With that being said, I would have liked to see much more time spent building up the romantic tension between them before anything flirtatious happened.

Ms. Bashe did some interesting things with her flashbacks that made me smile. I barely knew anything about the two main characters in the beginning, and she didn’t reveal very much about them until several scenes had flown by. It was fascinating to get to know them so well before learning anything about their previous lives. I also liked seeing how the author tied even the smallest and simplest memories to what was currently going on in the characters’ lives. This isn’t something I’ve seen done very often in this genre.

I’d recommend Screaming Down Splitsville to anyone who enjoys a little romance in their science fiction.

The supporting characters were nicely written. I liked the dash of humor they added to the plot almost as much as I liked these characters themselves. Seeing how Flick and Elodie responded to their friends and family members added dimensions to their personalities that I never would have noticed otherwise. Including as many of these moments as the author did was a good idea.

There were too many flashbacks for my tastes. While some of them were completely necessary in order to understand why Flick was reacting to her ex the way she did, I was distracted by how often the scenes shifted from the present to what happened to the characters four years ago. They also broke up the pacing of this story without giving me any information about Elodie’s betrayal than I hadn’t already gotten earlier.

There were several times when the dialogue made me smile. A lot of the plot development actually happened as a result of the conversations certain characters had with each other. This was an interesting and creative way to move things along. It’s not something I come across very often in fiction, and it made me curious to look up the rest of Ms. Davenport’s work and see if she uses this same technique in other tales.

Had their connection been given more time to develop, this would have been my favorite tale in the collection as the dialogue was handled well and the sex scene was pretty hot.

“Frost and Ice” started off with Isolde and Jaq using magic to battle over where the boundaries between their territories should be drawn. While I was fascinated by the idea of a magical duel, the transition from fighting to passion never quite made sense to me. I would have preferred to see more time spent showing why two people who seem to dislike each other as much as they do would want to end up in bed together.

What I liked the most about “At the Bottom of the Mountain” was how descriptive it was. Everything from the sound of wind rattling a padlock outdoors to the sight of the old, cozy farmhouse Rebekah lived in was described in great detail. I could picture everything that happened in great detail. It made me feel as though I was waiting out the snowstorm with the characters, and that’s exactly what I like finding in a story.

“Cold Chemistry” was deliciously flirtatious from the beginning. The playful dialogue brought many of Alyssa and Jayne’s hidden desires to the surface in ways that felt completely natural. It was fun to see them slowly grow closer to each other as their flirting gave way to more serious advances.

She brought a lot of laughter to the plot, though, and that was a very good thing.

I would have liked to see more attention paid to the chemistry between Jinx and Marnie. It would have been especially helpful to show more flirtation between them before anything sexual or romantic happened. Their relationship moved incredibly quickly in this story despite the fact that neither one of them came across to me as the kind of person who would jump into this sort of thing without thinking it through first. They seemed otherwise cautious about life. While I liked them both a lot as individuals, I was never quite sold on the idea of them being a great couple because of how out of character they acted when they were together. If not for this issue, I would have give this book a much higher rating.

One the things I like the most about Ms. Bates writing style how much attention she pays to everything that’s going on in her tales. Everything from the food to the settings to tender moments between the two main characters were described in great detail. All of these elements are important to me. The fact that this author pays close attention to both the erotic and the non-erotic parts of a story is a big part of the reason why I’m such a fan of her work.

I’ve read some pretty imaginative versions of fairy tale rewrites in my time but the premise of this one caught my attention for it’s originality. I expected some F/F interaction but I wandered about how they would treat her outside of being a mate and sub as well as human. My interest was piqued and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

The story opens with some pretty serious sexual tension once Jason literally gets his hands on Goldie. That whole opening scene was both hot and entertaining partly because his bear really really wanted out to play. Like most fated-mates type stories, Goldie has very little control over her reactions when Jason is near. She appears to be a confident woman with only book knowledge of the BDSM world but accepts Jason’s challenge when he gives her “homework” and then proceeds to check her progress at his discretion. That part was a little odd but I chalked up his choice to examine her so intimately in a not so intimate setting to the fact that his bear needed the constant contact and ability to keep her on edge.

Next I met Jacob. Like his slightly older brother, he’s serious about being obeyed but I could tell right away that Jacob would be the more lenient Dom. Yes and no. He is a giving lover but he doesn’t let her get away with anything any more than his brother would. I liked Jacob, though. He represented safety for Goldie and this world she’d stepped into was on the harsh side of scary. She needed him.

“Cat was intense at the best of times.” That was an understatement. I’ve never had a dominatrix fantasy and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Having said that, just like Goldie needed the difference in personality that Jacob provided to the group, she embraced what Cat could give her as well. It took longer to warm up to the idea but once she saw beyond the exterior, saw the woman underneath, it made accepting her mates a lot easier.

Great read for anyone who enjoys a bit of f/f romance with a supernatural bite.

The writing was easy to follow, nothing really complex about the story. If you are a reader that likes a story that is pretty simple and straight forward, this perhaps may be a story that you will enjoy. One thing I like is a book without a lot of characters and this was a book that fit that bill. Zoe Bradshaw worked as a bartender until wild fires displaced her motel and job. And you have Lorna, who recently left her husband of 18 years. However, the characters lacked true compassion, especially Lorna. She left her husband but the way she told him and her son Dominic was just really weird and heartless. If was odd she wouldn’t talk to them but made an effort to check her emails, text and social media at every road stop, and still her heart remained cold with each reply, if she replied to them at all.

Zoe was on the road to track her run away love. She tracked her down but then the plot fell flat. It left me with a question of… so, what was the point?  The sex was not as hot as I’d expected and hoped for. The plot lacked real conflict. I would have liked to have read about some adventure since they were traveling across county. Maybe some twist or surprise element that may have roughed the smoothness. I am all for a happy ending and everyone finding love, but stir in some spice along the way to make the ending that much better…give the character some trials and tribulations to endure.

Still, as I stated before the book was a well written, easy read. I like the idea that the women were brave enough to take a chance to step away from a life that wasn’t pleasing to them to see what else life had to offer them. I think we often fear the unknown and hesitate to step out of our comfort zone, but this is a story that gives any reader a chance to live through these two women. For readers that enjoy a book that is a refreshing getaway, where they can live through the lives of the characters, this is one that I think would fit that type reader. Their chance meeting was what they each needed. It seems they drew strength from each other and their personalities together made them stronger. It’s encouraging to see the two strange women building a relationship of trust and getting to know each other.

While this story may not have been my favorite, the author has a real skill in telling a story so I would definitely give another book by this author a try.

The sex scenes in this tale were absolutely scorching hot. By far the biggest reason why I found them so alluring is that the chemistry between the two main characters was perfect. They were attracted to each other both emotionally and physically, so I couldn’t wait to see what would happen when they took their relationship to the next level. Seeing it all unfold the way it did only made me root harder for them to end up together.

With that being said, the dialogue could have used some more work. Neither one of the characters had a natural speaking style. Both of them said things that I couldn’t imagine anyone saying in the heat of the moment because of how stiffly and formally they talked. This kind of dialogue would have worked in a story set a hundred years in the past. It felt out of place for something that was supposed to be occurring in the present day, though. Annabell’s background definitely explained some of her formality, but there were still times when the way that she talked was distracting to me due to how she described certain activities that were going on between her and Nicole in the bedroom. I was also never quite sure why Nicole spoke as formally as she did since I assume she was raised in a mainstream family.

The subplot added an extra layer of intrigue to the storyline. I especially liked how the author wove it into so many different sections of this book. Briefly bringing this topic up several times before the conclusion made me curious to know how it would be resolved. Separating everything out like this also left plenty of room for the main plot to develop, so I was glad to see it written this way.

I’d recommend Aching for Annabell to anyone who is in the mood for something titillating.

Some people are perfectly content to spend their entire lives in a quiet, small town. Is Mary-Beth one of them?

This story included a lot of detailed descriptions. Many of them involved sex, of course, but I was almost equally intrigued by how the narrator took the time to look at the little things in Mary-Beth’s life that most people overlook. Spending so much time on how a room was arranged or what her daily routine was like at the diner made it easy to for me to imagine stepping into this character’s shoes.

It would have been nice to have much more information about Mary-Beth and Jo’s personalities. I never felt like I got to know either one of them well as an individual. Are they outgoing? Can they find the humor in everything in life? Do other people think they’re unusually kind and considerate? Knowing the answers to questions like these would have helped me figure out what these characters are like. This would have been especially helpful information to have once their whirlwind romance began.

The chemistry between Jo and Mary-Beth was nicely done. The scenes that included both of them together did give me a few clues about what their personalities were like which I really appreciated. They seemed to complement each other nicely, especially in the bedroom. I really liked seeing exactly how they got along, and I was glad that the author spent so much time showing this to the audience.

Let’s Ride is a good choice for anyone who has ever wondered what it would be like to meet an exciting stranger on an ordinary day.

One of the things I liked the most about Nessa was discovering the differences between how her mind worked and how the mind of the average human usually functions. While she was every bit as intelligent and likeable as her human companion, there were definitely a few things that they perceived in completely different ways because of where they were raised and what they were used to seeing in life. Acknowledging these things was a smart decision as I would have been pretty surprised by a selkie who understood absolutely everything about our society.

There were a few things about how selkie society works in this universe that I never figured out. The narrator’s explanation of it wasn’t as clear as I would have liked it to be. This was especially true later on when some new information seemed to contradict what had been told to the audience earlier. I was never quite sure if this was really a contradiction, though, because of how fuzzy it was to begin with.

The sex scenes were well done. Not only did Charley and Nessa have great chemistry, the background information that was shared about how they met and how long they’ve been together made their time together feel even more special to me. There’s definitely something to be said for stealing erotic moments with someone you really love, especially when a couple is facing as many obstacles to staying together as these two are.

I’d recommend The Sea Wife to anyone who loves selkie stories.
