An unusual book with a feisty heroine and a hero who looks at things with a sense of humor. Romance filters its way into the story but in no way takes over from the science fiction quality. The Kwintos are a humorous bunch of spacefarers and the mixture of races and the family legend regarding marriage make things even more comical.

Definitely a story with a difference and a very enjoyable read. Light hearted with unexpected twists. Ms Grace puts us immediately into Wiyra’s life and keeps us there throughout the story.

When love is on the line, crossing it is the only path to take.

Eaton Franks has had his eye on Marty, the leader of the hawks, for a long time. After he rescues the bad boy, things take a tragic turn and it looks as if the gang leader might never fly again. When Eaton has the chance to use a sorcerer to fix the love of his life, little does he know it will lead to his own abduction.

Marty is beside himself when his eagle shifter is stolen. He knows they are mates and he’s willing to do anything to get him back. However, now he has to decide if he is willing to give up his hawk half in order to save his eagle. Sometimes love makes a man do crazy things.

To Enchant an Eagle is the third installment in the Banded Brothers series by Amber Kell, and I think it could be read as a stand-alone but full enjoyment will come with reading this series from the beginning.

Eaton Franks is a golden eagle shifter and a certified genius. I enjoyed him, he is one of those people who gets so focused on what they’re doing that they’re oblivious to the world around them. I enjoy geeky characters like that; add in that Eaton is gorgeous and yet doesn’t seem to realize it and I found myself in love with him.

Marty is the leader of a gang of hawk shifters and doesn’t think he’s worthy to have Eaton as a mate. I liked Marty but honestly thought he was way too hard on himself. From descriptions it was obvious he was an attractive man who took care of those he considered his, including Eaton.

This is a story of fated mates, so the storyline progresses quickly. Just when I thought it was going to be this straight forward romance, Ms. Kell throws in a great plot twist that adds a level of suspense and drama that made a good story great.

The characters are well developed and that includes secondary characters. I found myself liking other characters and trying to figure out who they were fated to be with, and if it would be another interesting mix of paranormals. I loved this story because of the characters, the world and the potential I see for many more stories to come. I highly recommend it.

Janice Freeman, a fashion designer with a business in Manhattan, is bummed because she has just turned forty, is single and losing her best friend Marcy, who is moving back to Michigan. When she hears the music of the ice cream truck she decides to give herself a birthday treat by buying an ice cream. Little does she know that she is in store for more than just something cold and tasty.

Antonio Rodriquez is an out of work actor trying to make ends meet by doing odd jobs. Today he is in the East Village selling ice cream from a truck when he sees a beautiful woman coming towards him. Intrigued and excited he starts up a conversation with her.

Ice Cream Man is a cute story that has a gorgeous twenty-seven year old man falling for a beautiful forty year old woman. Janice was instantly attracted to him as he was to her, and it was cute to see how Janice tried to overlook the age difference while Antonio didn’t see a problem with it. The characters were engaging but this reader felt that there wasn’t a lot of chemistry between them, there was sex but something was missing. The story moved a little slowly at times, but the interaction between the characters made up for that. The author made sure that the reader saw Janice’s internal struggle of knowing that she was older, while Antonio tried to convince her that it didn’t matter.

Ice Cream Man is a pleasant story and I enjoyed how the author brought the characters to life for you, which helped you as the reader to care that these two people get together.

Looks can be deceiving—devilishly deceiving.

Want to get rid of your wife? Easy. Find a lookalike, send her out of town and then take care of business. But what happens when the lookalike decides to take over for the wife? Then what?

A man wants a divorce but it will cost him too much financially. What’s he to do? Why, have his wife killed, of course. He conspires in a seemingly perfect plan – or so he thought.

Hal Abbott has found a woman he desperately wants to be with but he has a problem – the woman is not his wife. He naturally thinks of divorce, but a prenuptial agreement he was convinced to sign will award her half of his wealth if he files. Instead of convincing her to initiate proceedings, which would award her nothing, he teams up with a man he knows only as “Mr. Smith” to have her disposed of.

This was an interesting short story. The writing was easy to follow, and the points of view, though they shifted very often, were clearly defined. In the end, all questions were answered, and the action was easy to follow.

This book is marketed as erotic romance, but didn’t seem to fit in the erotic category, which is what I would normally expect with an eXstasy published book. There was no love story, besides those that were inferred, and no love scenes at all. The only adult aspects seemed to be a handful of curse words and some description of gore, but nothing over the top. I would have enjoyed the suspense of the story a bit more, but unfortunately the tease printed just before the title page gave away the twist at the end. Because of the frequent point of view shifts, there was little mystery in any character’s actions, since we were able to get into each person’s head as the story unfolded.

Despite its negatives, it’s a quick, clever read. With a change in the opening teaser, and maybe being told from one main point of view rather than many, perhaps the mystery could be played up more. If you have only a few minutes and want a interesting little time killer, this one is an intriguing escape.

When he shows up at the conference hotel, all her plans go right out the window. Will Jane choose the man she’s always wanted, or the one who claims to own her soul?

Halloween might be months away, but this is a story that would be a pick for an October read. It’s got humor, heat and a vampire, who is so much sexier than the boss the heroine has wanted to make her own for so long.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book with Jane taking her boss’ car to the meeting but stopping at the Halloween maze. Ms. Pauli did a wonderful job setting the scene for this creepy attraction stuck in the middle of nowhere. When Jane gets lost it in, I felt scared for her and wondered if she’d ever get out of there alive.

When she finally arrives at the meeting, we met her boss. I struggled to like him, and couldn’t really see her attraction to him. Enter the sexy vampire she met at the maze and things go from bad to very good for her.

Despite its fun plot, engaging dialogue and smoking hot sex, the story did have some jarring scenes. For instance, one minute Jane was at the meeting, the next she seemed to be back at the maze and I couldn’t quite follow along. There are some truly funny moments and of course, some very sexy ones too. I also liked the exchanges between Jane and the vampire.

I enjoyed Thrice Shy and recommend it. With the thread of humor throughout, it is a different take on vampire paranormals.

One of the hallmarks of Ms. O’Malley’s writing is her stellar characterization. I enjoyed the characters very much. Both Aaron and Bronwyn are likable, if not flawed, main characters. This book runs the gamut of emotions. Love. Lust. Deception. Anger. Bitterness. Forgiveness. I became completely invested in them, and had no problem cheering for their HEA. The general premise of the story was great. While I truly liked this book, there was one issue that kept it from being everything I’ve come to expect from this author. I love Tierney O’Malley’s work and have read a lot of her books but this story too much on the past and not enough on the present story. Usually a book with lots of detail can draw me in, but the characters spent so much time dwelling on the past that the present didn’t stand a chance. I guess what I’m saying is that I’d have liked to have seen a more even distribution of past and present rather than it being so past-heavy.

The thing that keeps bringing me back to Ms. O’Malley’s writing is the way she draws a reader in with her characters and the situations they get into. Investing in her as an author to enjoy is a smart choice and one that I will make again in the future.

Cup Check is the third installment in the Blue Line Hockey series and I have to say it is my favorite. The knowledge that the captain of the Hawks has been harboring feelings for the new addition to the team makes this story a long waited treat to read.

Sergei is new to the Hawks. He’s been sent to play for this farm team to escape the abuse and taunting from his previous team, the Cougars. Trey Canton is an excellent supporting character in this story. He’s a shoulder to lean on for Sergei while he’s dealing with his heartbreak over Kip and his inability to admit he’s gay. After Sergei is attacked during a game, Kip can’t hold back his emotions or feelings for his little hockey player anymore. What Kip does to prove his love for Sergei was a tear jerking moment.

Hockey is a very aggressive sport and Ms. Hecht did an excellent job describing the sport as well as the violent acts that take place on the ice. The love scenes shared between these two men were very descriptive and explosive. The attraction and love these men have towards one another will suck you in and keep you reading to the very end. Nasha Fano has lived her adult life as the host of Ithena, red star of the northern sky. Refusing to believe that her deceased father sold her to Lord Kalowell she fights for her freedom and the survival of her people. Caught on the wrong side of the wall between her people and the invaders, Nasha is made a captive by the Lord who wanted the avatar of Ithena, but he has no idea that she is the very woman he seeks. Learning about him, his people, and the course of events that brought them together is humbling, but the star inside her will not come out to confront the other avatar or the star he holds. Frustrated, Nasha gives in to the last thing she wanted and embraces the power of his touch in hopes it will rouse the star within.

The Hashka Chronicles is Viola Grace’s most recent series, and I believe it is quickly becoming one of my favorite worlds to visit.

Nasha Fano is the avatar of Ithena, the red star of the northern sky. She is determined to avoid the man who ‘bought’ her from her father before his death, and when Lord Kalowell and his troops approach, Nasha is at the head of her small group of warriors, defending the keep to the end. When she is captured, she pretends to be a servant, and tries to escape and reach her people.

Thorn Kalowell is determined to find the avatar of Ithena, for it is the only way to satisfy his own inner star, and bring prosperity and peace to the people. He isn’t aware that the servant he has in chains is, in fact, the woman he seeks throughout the land.

When Nasha discovers that things aren’t as she was lead to believe, she gives in to Thorn, in hopes that her passion will draw Ithena to the surface so she can fulfill the promise she made to Eshkar; that when they each had the perfect avatar, they would join to create a child with the power of the stars. And although Ithena is a star, she has the same fears any female has, and isn’t sure she is ready for motherhood. Can Nasha and Thorn work through this, and find passion together? Will Nasha accept her destiny when she finds the truth is better than she could have hoped? Can Thorn break through the walls that Nasha has erected around her heart for a happy ever after?

This world of sentient stars and their chosen avatars is a fascinating place to visit, and Ms. Grace has the imagination to populate it with all kinds of delightful characters. Nasha has known all her life that she is Ithena’s chosen, and she is a strong and determined woman. She seeks to protect her people and their way of life, and doesn’t realize that what she has been told isn’t the truth. She is a warrior as well, and leads her guards against unbeatable odds, knowing the chances are slim, but fighting for honor as much as anything else. I did enjoy watching how far she was willing to go to hide who she was, even when placed in chains to prevent escape.

Thorn Kalowell is not what he appears to be. He is a kind and generous leader, not the merciless warlord Nasha believes him to be. He is determined to find his destined mate, not knowing he already has her in his home. I enjoyed watching Thorn slowly unravel the mystery, and finally claim his mate once she is revealed.

There are some surprising twists here, especially the one about Ithena. I liked the idea that for once, the star was the one hesitating to join her mate, and that it was up to the avatars to lure her out to her proper place with Eshkar. I look forward to more adventures with Ms. Grace’s wonderful, blue skinned Hashka, and the growth of these worlds of fantasy and imagination.
