Amy Millington is on a mission. She’s smart, quick-witted, thorough, and not about to let anyone disrupt her plans. In fact, she’s one of the most strong-willed characters one could imagine, and completely admirable.

The handsome but dour Charles Harding hardly seems likewise. He appears to be an obstacle in her plans – but perhaps, just perhaps, he has some small appreciation for Amy’s goals. They do share an interest in architecture; and secrets. Still, there are some ghosts that one cannot ignore, and Amy guesses as much about Charles.

Will her temerity be rewarded? I had doubts. Yet, like Amy, I had to believe she would find a way – but how? Ms. Noel builds both intrigue and a shadow of suspense into this very clever tale. Solving Amy’s challenge is important from the start…yet the romance, off to a slow start and almost a surprise, is no less important. In fact, the romance side of this is simply extraordinary; emotionally evocative yet in most scenes, subtle. This work would be worth reading if only for that.

Locations are simply wonderful, like the austere ‘Harding’ mansion. Yet, details of description are woven into text rather passively and this reader found herself wanting to zoom past, to impatiently get ‘back to the story.’ Good and bad: the descriptions tend to slow things up, but the plot is intriguing enough so you must stay with it.

A different and surprisingly moving romance. Do read.

Being from a more well-established settlement than Talei, he’s a bit more refined and brings a lot to the table when they meet. His addition to the party makes things more balanced and smoother. Together, they make a great pair of leaders, with democracy at the forefront of their reign.

Dragon Flame is an adventure for all ages! From the first dragon attack to the freeing of the dragons from their captors, you’re glued to the words before you. I found it interesting as to why Talei and her brother, Byron, were the only ones capable of communicating with the dragons at first. A different sort of idea and I think it worked well here, showing how the siblings differed from all the other survivors around them.

A great fantasy for younger teens and adults alike, Dragon Flame is a fun and exciting mix of both fantasy and science fiction.

The plot was absorbing and wonderfully paced. As Dimtri and Elise learn to trust each other, Dimitri’s enemy, Kelch, is waiting to pounce. Knowing Kelch and his henchmen could strike at any moment kept me on the edge of my seat. I do have one issue with the plot. I won’t spill all the details, but I will say that Dimitri and Elise let their guard down at a very inopportune moment and Kelch manages to gain the upper hand. This situation felt a bit forced, and I found it hard to believe that Dimitri and Elise would be so careless when they knew Kelch was watching them.

Despite this issue, Dimtri and Elise’s negligence leads up to a climax that’s a real nail biter. All this suspense had me flying through the pages so quickly I was able to read the book in one sitting.

The secondary characters could have been a bit more rounded, but they did complement Dimitri and Elise nicely as well as keep the plot moving at a great pace. I really would have liked to know a bit more about Kelch. It’s clear he and Dimitri have been rivals for most of their lives, but the origin of their feud is a bit murky. I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a specific event in their past that set them on their current paths.

Overall, The Faberge Secret is a riveting, fast paced romantic suspense ideal for anyone wanting to slip into an exciting book for a while.

It is clear that Nate didn’t do it, but by the end of the book, the true culprit of that crime hadn’t been revealed. It would have been nice to have that loose end tied up.

The tension and chemistry between Zoe and Nate really gives this mystery an intense romantic flavor. At first, the future of their relationship is uncertain due to some of Nate’s actions over the past year, but Zoe isn’t the kind of girl to suffer in silence. She speaks up and lets him know what she’s thinking. While Zoe is completely head over heels in love with Nate, I love that she has a very strong sense of self and isn’t willing to compromise her personal values. Her refusal to play games, and her honest, open way of communicating are all very admirable traits.

The Secret of the Love Letter is a thoroughly enjoyable romantic suspense. Zoe is a wonderful character, and I look forward to reading about more of her adventures in future installments of the series.

Her parents were both teachers, which most kids would find annoying, but Amelia liked it just fine. Sure, her family was quirky — with her ‘Da’ being Scottish and a bit on the Geek Chic side — and her mom was actually fun to hang out with — but that was the way she liked it.

Then everything changed. Fast.

Her mom died, her family broke. If that wasn’t bad enough, the university where her father taught literally shut down without enough students to keep it open. Everything she thought her senior year — her life — would be just disappeared.

Now, she and her Da are trying to rebuild their lives with only 2/3rds of their family. She’s in a new school where quirky isn’t cool, and it’s even more uncool when your father is the new English teacher and he’s unlike any teacher any kid at this school has ever seen.

She could try to be like everyone else, try to blend in as best as any ‘new kid’ can, but that’s not Amelia.

Taking a stand makes her plenty of enemies, but by Christmas her senior year, she’s also made the kinds of friends who will last her a lifetime. They all live in the Land of Misfit Teens, but at least they live there together.

This is one of those novels I couldn’t put down. Make no mistake, though there are romantic elements in this story, it’s not one of those HEA novels. I enjoyed this line, which ends chapter one: The silence was broken by someone coughing. Oh, yeah, this was going to be fun.

The book contains a number of places where “where” is used when the text should contain “were.” In fact, there were so many I can’t help thinking that this was one of those editing glitches we all are prone to: hitting “replace all” when that’s not what we wanted to do.

The point-of-view shifts are well-handled, and there was no head-hopping, but occasionally, as at the start of chapter three, I was unsure who the point of view character was until half-way down the page. And I didn’t feel that the author provided quite enough details of the setting for me to really picture it. I wanted to see, smell, hear, what the high school halls were like, and I didn’t quite get it.

The author has a real feel for plot and pacing, and the book rolls along at a good clip, with just enough light relief to provide a welcome break, as when Drake agonizes over whether or not to sit next to Victoria at lunch toward the end of Chapter Seven. And the shoot out in the school hallway had me digging my nails into the palm of my hand.

Kudos to the author, who manages to convey her message about teen violence without descending into either melodrama or preachiness. If you’re a teen, the parent of a teen, or, yes, were a teen, you won’t want to miss this fine book.

Ms. Romaney wastes no time getting the action started in this exciting installment of the Night of the Gryphon series. The Warrior Queen picks up right at the moment The Hollow King ended. Readers wanting to enjoy The Warrior Queen to it’s fullest should read The Hollow King first.

As Taraly, Taigo, Crenshaw, Sancha, and Jalie continue on the quest for the Scepter of Hope, it becomes apparent the five individuals are still not working as a unit. Taraly is still unsure of her feelings for Taigo. Sancha loves Jalie, but knows that she isn’t good for him or the quest. Even more troubling, Jalie and Taigo have some skeletons in their closets that seriously call their motivations and loyalty into question. I had hoped to watch these budding romances continue to bloom in this story. Unfortunately, I have a feeling these fragile romances might not stand the test of time. However, the romantic in me is still holding out hope for some sort of happy ending.

Ms. Romaney is very good at filling her stories with twists and turns to me on my toes. When the first book ended, I at least thought I knew who was going to be on the side of light and who was going to be on the side of dark. As this story progressed, it became increasingly clear not everything is so easily divided. Ms. Romaney reveals two warrior queens and two hollow kings, each representing the light or the dark. What sets Ms. Romaney’s characters apart and gives them great depth is the fact that very few of them are purely good or evil. They all have the capacity to choose the light or the dark. This is especially apparent in the character of Ovezara, an evil sorceress. Her entire childhood was spent being abused and groomed to do evil, but every now and then a little light shines in her. This causes her a great deal of distress because she isn’t sure what to do with the light. Will she nurture it or crush it?

Crenshaw is another character who really came into his own in this book. When I first encountered him in The Hollow King, Crenshaw had one thing on his mind, killing Ovezara. He also had a pretty low self esteem and didn’t believe that he was capable of much. As the story progresses, Crenshaw slowly begins to realize the strength of the light within him. Crenshaw is also a great source of humor in the book. I especially enjoy his interactions with his mother. His sense of humor is certainly a bit dark at times, but it is always entertaining and never failed to make me smile.

I absolutely enjoyed reading The Warrior Queen, but I must warn readers, like the first book, The Warrior Queen ends at a crucial moment sure to leave readers wanting more. The Warrior Queen is an excellent addition to the Night of the Gryphon series, and I’m already looking forward to the next book. Readers looking for a great fantasy laced with romance should certainly give this book a try.

I was excited to begin reading Twilight Over Moldavia. Ever since I read the first book in the series, The Wolf’s Torment, I had eagerly been anticipating the next installment. Once I began reading, I was delighted to discover a wonderful new generation of characters to carry on the Moldavian Moon series. Even though this is the second book in the series, the story can certainly be enjoyed on its own. However, if readers want a greater understanding of the emotional turmoil that led Stefan’s mother to curse him I recommend they read book one first.

Stefan embodies all the traits of a great hero. He’s warm, caring, loyal, and strong enough to face whatever life throws at him. Like his father, Stefan matured at a very young age. Though he’s not even twenty, Stefan has been groomed to unify and rule Romania. It’s a lot for such a young person to handle, but Stefan bears it very well. In fact, I would say that Stefan is just a little too perfect. He hardly ever gets angry or argues with anyone. Even when he learns that he’s been cursed, his reaction is very controlled. I think if there had been a chink or two in Stefan’s armor, he would have felt more realistic.

Caroline is certainly the woman for Stefan. With her love of the outdoors and her slightly wild ways, she’s the perfect complement to Stefan’s careful control. I found her personality refreshing. Timon is a villain in the truest sense of the word. He is extremely selfish and ruthless. If Stefan breaks the curse, Timon is determined to claim him. Every time Stefan and Caroline turn around, Timon is there lurking in the shadows. As the story progressed, Timon’s attacks became bolder and more frequent. This really added a sense of urgency to Stefan and Caroline’s situation that had me racing to the end of the book.

The final showdown between Stefan and Timon was definitely intense and action packed with both sides fighting fiercely. There were also a couple of big secrets that were brought to light, and I had a bit of an idea of how some things would play out. However, I was completely unprepared for the heroic and ultimately tragic actions committed by one character in order to save Stefan’s life. Tears were streaming down my cheeks as I read that scene.

Twilight Over Moldavia is even better than the first book in the series. It is an excellent story filled with just the right balance of romance, magic, and danger. Stefan and Caroline’s story certainly has a happy and satisfying ending, but the epilogue opens up a whole new story line. I’m already looking forward to the next book in this exciting series.

Were the Moon Don’t Shine is J. Morgan’s second book in his Southern Werewolf Chronicles and it’s a fun filled, action packed romp. The world building is marvelous. I love Maddie, and her self-indulgent diatribes. She is smart, independent and totally clueless when it comes to werewolf politics, despite her half-brother’s status.

This is a fast paced and hilarious romp with Maddie and company running all over trying to make things right, save Nicholi, and find the perfect wedding dress. There are a couple of big surprises here, and one involves the culprit behind it all. I love the interaction between Maddie and her future sister-in-law, the totally off the wall humor and the exciting race to stop the bad guys and save the day for all concerned. Do we ever learn what’s going on with Jason and Jess? Not here, but I hope to see much more of them in future books. This is a wonderful book for those who like sweet and silly romance with a bit of the paranormal to it.

Were the Moon Don’t Shine reads fine as a stand-alone but If you want to see how it all began, I recommend that you read book one, Were Love Blooms first.

Megan Callaway has her own reasons for considering buying the Green Oaks, and pretty much all of them are personal. The battle…er… relationship builds from a rocky start toward a whole lot of contention, and it doesnt ever appear as though they will be quite able to see eye to eye.

There are a lot of unpredictable ups and downs–from events involving locals, to bits of the past starting to haunt–and this will really keep you turning the pages. Some of the conversation is stilted and not-quite believable, frequently becoming a vehicle for the author to impart information. However, the more emotional scenes between them are simply touching.

This romance is as classic as some of the real home-cookin’ featured: the meatloaf, potatoes and gravy style romance, that you get your own hopes all twined up with theirs right from the start. Even in conflict it’s cheery and makes you appreciates the small things in life, from attraction to mutual enjoyment. Do read.

Bertie Stevens has problems. Still, she keeps her little resort in beautiful Cape May running through the dark years of WWII. When Captain Greg Marsh comes to quarter at her estate, he’s an unwelcome symbol of the war right in her kitchen. The angry sparks flying between them at first soon turn to sparks of another kind when the passion they feel for each other can’t be denied. Bertie’s always sworn she wouldn’t get involved with a military man. Will Greg’s handsome face, confident swagger, and sincere personality cut through her reservations?

Landed by a Flyboy has angry bankers, a hunky Naval officer, and a lot of twists and turns.

There is a lot going on in this snazzy little book. I nabbed Landed by a Flyboy because I have a love of pilots and an interest in all things from the WWII era. May Williams manages to combine the uncertainty of the times with some interesting characters in this short story.

As I said, this is a very short read. If you’re looking for lots of description, then this book might not be for you. Yes, I got an idea of where the book took place, but I didn’t really feel like I was there.

Still, I wasn’t sure why she was so angry at Greg from the very beginning. Greg comes across as a perfectly decent guy, but if there was more explanation as to why she keeps a cool distance I might have been able to identify with her more.

Still there were moments of sweetness and heat that I’m glad were there. I got to see the blossoming feelings between Greg and Bertie and it was fun.

If you want to take a sentimental journey through wartime 1940’s, then this is the book for you.
